Display Connection Problems?

My Macbook Pro (15", Early 2011) does not seem to recognize my screen. Specifically, the Display Connecter status in System Profiler reads "No Display Connected" for BOTH the AMD Radeon card and the Intel HD Graphics card. Curiously the Color LCD status seems fine for the AMD Radeon card. Moreover, there is no display shown in the "Displays" section of System Preferences. What is the issue here, and what can be done to fix this? Any advice is appreciated.

When I shut the computer's display it sometimes doesn't illuminate when I wake it I tried entering the password even though I can't see.
And then i can vaguely make out my desktop or the apps.I recently discovered that by moving the whole computer it would illuminarte again i'm thinking that there is a loose connection between the screen and the motherboard.
I'M RUNNING OSX 10.7.2 AND EVERYTHING IS UP TO DATE I'M VERY PICKY ABOUT THAT IF MORE INFO IS NEEDED JUST ASK.
    I would appreciate any response,
    -Georges
    P.S: I'm a hacker so i will understand any thechnical stuff, and i'm 12.

I have had this same problem. Has the wifi worked before? What I did was I turned my wifi off, then I restarted my computer, then I turned my wifi back on. If that doesnt work, leave the wifi off, and shut it down for a while. Hope I could help!

Not sure what you are trying to do.  I interpret what you are saying is that you have a monitor connected to the DVI port and another to the mini displayport (mDP).  Are you physically trying to turn the one connected to the DVI port off (and on) causing the one on the mDP port to "shutter"?  If so, take a look at SwitchResX.  It will allow you to programmatically turn monitors on or off.  Maybe that will cure the problem.
Of course if I am misinterpreting what you are saying ignore this post.

  • IMac 27" with Thunderbolt Display connected, Boot Camp Problem

    Hi everyone.
Let me start off by saying that I'm using a late 2012 iMac 27", 3.4 GHz i7, 680MX, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB Fusion, with a Thunderbolt Display connected.
I installed Windows 8 via Boot Camp, and it works just fine. Here comes my problem:
I have dual screens and I play Minecraft. Minecraft's full screen is basically crap, and therefore I disabled the iMac display. I used Windows-button+P to use only the secondary display. This turns the iMac display off entirely, and leaves the Thunderbolt Display on. Note: This is not possible in Mac OS X. Then I played a little Minecraft. When I was done, i wanted the main iMac display to come on again. I then used Windows-button+P again, to turn both displays on. Then bam, totally looked like the iMac display was broken. See the images below, to see how it looks:
    1) http://cl.ly/image/1p2e3c1Z1z1C
    2) http://cl.ly/image/2g0n1M1Y0t0g
    3) http://cl.ly/image/2Q2P1c1J220d
    4) http://cl.ly/image/113b3K2O1Z43
    5) http://cl.ly/image/1q2v1s1n3w1f
This image-retention-like stuff stays there, even if I reboot into Mac OS X, and then it eventually disappears. I can reproduce this, by doing the same thing again, (windows-button+p) but only in Windows, because that you cannot turn of the main display in Mac OS X. Maybe this is the reason why you can't?
Anyone can tell me what I can do? I guess I could try reinstalling, but it seems more like a hardware issue, than a software issue.
Thank you for your time, and thanks in advance.
Another note: I'll try doing the opposite, and see if it happens on the Thunderbolt Display as well. (Windows-button+P, and then only using the main display)

Ok, I am marking this as "answered", as I have solved it myself, while I still have no clue what lead to the problem in the first place.
I've been on the phone with Apple Care today, and they were as clueless as I was and had never heard of this before.
After we tried the usual stuff (unplugging all wires, PRAM Reset, SMC Reset), to no avail, I was told it could well be a hardware problem and that I should have the iMac examined at the Genius Bar, so an appointment was made.
I'll cancel that one though, as I was able to cure it by myself for now (and carrying around a 27" iMac in Munich's busy downtown pedestrian zone is not really fun).
This is what I did (and I'm so happy I tried):
In Display Settings, I switched the external display back to landscape mode and selected "mirror displays".
Then I rebooted, and voilà, the problem was gone (Apple logo on white background was showing).
I switched it back to 90 degrees rotation and no mirroring, and it's still all ok.
I booted Windows 7 in Bootcamp, then back to Snow Leopard, and it's all still fine.
I can still only wonder what messed this up in the first place, but for now I'm happy.

When I click on View > Connections, Raptor does not do anything.
My coworker system has Windows 2000 and the same version of java. Beside that, there are so many other variables. I am not sure what to look for. Could you please give me more information on what to look for?
When I open Raptor, it does not display Connection Tab by default.
When I run Raptor from C:\Program Files\raptor\jdev\bin\raptor.exe, I get this output. Does it look normal?

  • Unending connectivity problems -- and Desktop Help...

I'm wasting so much time on connectivity problems that it's positively wearying. Prior to the installation of BT Infinity here in April, I had a low quality broadband service because of the length of the line from the exchange: if I could get a download speed of 1.2Mbps and an upload of a quarter of that, I was doing well.
BT advised that thanks to fibre optic, my Internet should run much faster. So we had Infinity installed. I'm registered with Speedtest.net so am able to see my performance record.
The average download speed is now aroun d 6Mbps and the average upload, more than that at 7Mbps. How an upload speed can consistently be faster than a download escapes me.
But I'm not familiar with the ways of Internet connectivity and try as a I might, can't get my head around it.
This desktop computer runs Vista OS. Vista was **bleep** when it came out and is renowned for its botched handling of Internet connections. So I'm not blaming BT for the literally unending connectivity problems that are occurring now, with line drops, speeds slowing to a crawl, and no guarantee that any connection will last. But it would be good to actually use BT software to help fathom out what's going wrong here, and today's typical morning which looks like this:
    1) Boot up computer. Automatic connection to hub via Netgear USB wireless adapter. Hub is on ground floor of this 3-storey property but signal strength from hub  is excellent, as confirmed by inSSIDer monitoring, currently showing 54 with no other networks anywhere near that figure.
    2) Perhaps 5 minutes after connection established, it's then lost. 'Local Only' is displayed. This is, apparently, a known Vista problem. But Microsoft has issued a fix for it. I know this, because it took 100 hours of ploughin g the Net to find out that MS had finally admitted to one more Vista screw-up. I've used the Microsoft router "fix it" before and it didn't work ("failed to process") so uninstalled it and have DL'd it again now and run it. This time it says it has fixed everything.
    3) Computer is re-booted to make the fix effective. Computer connects to Internet. Speedtest.net check yet again confirms that upload speed is faster than download speed.
    4) Connection dies. So much for Microsoft Fix It.
    5) Windows diagnostics reports that it can re-set the IP profile (or something.) I click yes. The re-set goes through. Connectivity is restored. 10 minutes later, connectivity is lost. Just a red X in the tray. No connection of any kind, not even that daft 'Local Connection' only alert.
    6) Reboot. Yet again. BT Desktop Help was installed here and ran OK when we were using our Netgear DSG34 router. But since the change to the BT Hub, the BT program has never run at all. So-oo. . . It has been uninstalled. And then re-DL'd and re-installed. And though the installation  has been completed, clicking on 'launch' has failed to launch anything. But anyway. An hour ago, in one of the brief periods today when the Internet connection was holding up, I Revo-ed out the earlier install, DL'd BT desktop Help and re-installed it. . . and I'm still at the same stage as always, with a  Firefox browser page that's open and completely blank and has been for the past 30 minutes. The URL is:
    file:///C:/Program%20Files/BT%20Broadband%20Desktop%20Help/btbb/Start.html
Repeated page re-loading gets nowhere. Malwarebytes PRO is turned OFF to prevent any possibility of blocking and the antivirus is termporaily SUSPENDED. This PC runs on Windows standard firewall but even turning that OFF doesn't get the page to load. Copying the address into Internet Explorer in case there's a Firefox problem merely results in Firefox being opened and the same blank page running there.
    7) After all that. . . Connection lost yet again and this time, Windows cannot connect at all. It reports that the "wireless network security key is not correct". I happen to know that it is, because this is maybe the 20th time it has reported this in the past 10 days and every time I have to key in the "correct" key all over again. . . at which point Windows still says it isn't correct and cannot repair.
Turning off the computer completely, unplugging from the wall, holding in the power switch for a full minute to clear the circuits, traipsing up and dowen three flights of stairs to turn off the hub, then wait, then turn the power back onm again. . . Ah, wot fun times I'm having here with my particular versioin of Infinity (as in, an infinity of connectivcity problems.)
Summary: I seem to be being simultaneously hit with one issue after another.
I'm bewildered as to why ever since Infinity was installed here, my upload speed is generally faster than my download speed. I'm not happy with endless Internet connection failures though am thinking that Vista is playing a large part here with its "wrong security key" and unending 'Local Only / Limited Connection' failures. I do miss my Netgear router and the ability to access a fantastic help menu and re-boot directly from the desktop without having to keep going up and down three flights of sdtairs to do so (I haven't been able to find out how toe access the BT Hub remotely.)
Above all though: I'm  really tired of repeatedly trying to run freshly downloaded and installed BT Desktop Help software but getting no further than a blank page because the program has stalled.
If anyone has any advice / suggestions, other than to buy a carrier pigeon, that'd be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Thanks again to John and gg30340. Here's an update:
    1) BT Desktop Help removed completely from this computer. The uninstaller itself mopped up everything, which surprised me. But anyway.
    2) Bt Home Hub manager set up and working. Had to input serial number and create new password. All of this sounds fairly easy and would be if one had the device near the desk. But the idiots who built this property shoved the BT master socket inside the garage next to the door. Our two home computers are on the third floor. To ensure the wireless signal strength is OK, the Hub and Infinity module/device/whatever it's called are on a high shelf. It's a major job to even reach the darn things, never mind read the labels seeing as how the BT Infinity engineer was good enough to tidy up the cabling and make a very tight connection to the wall socket.
    3) I had hoped to be able to back up the Hub's settings, seeing as the software provides for Advanced Settings / System / Backup. But not on mine (Hub 3.0). All that System allows is choosing which internet clock to define the accurate time. Everything else in System is just a pattern of short lines as if trying to indicate that there's some text there but it's invisible. This is now my second encounter with BT software which, for whatever reason, isn't functioning as it should on this PC.
    4) Hub reset to factory fresh, according to BT guide.
    5) Reset appears to have achieved nothing apart from requiring the password to be popped in again. After reset, it wasn't even possible to connect to the hub manager. Internet connectivity was eventually established for all of 30 seconds and then, gone.
    6) Computer was shut down and then booted anew. Internet connectivity is still. . . dreadful. One minute everything's fine and then, literally,. the next minute a webpage won't load. Even opening the Hub Manager has taken three attempts, i.e., disconnecting from the Internet, re-connecting, failing, and trying twice more until success. Yet all the time these failures are occurring, the tray icon is showing a steady, unwavering green icon for Local and Internet access -- despite the fact, there manifestly isn't any.
    7) Speedtest. net tests are actually showing upload and download 'trajectories' going slower and slower and finally halting at some point on the arc, then after a period of up to 30 seconds, suddenly becoming animated again. Speed test results with broadband speed checker UK and Think Broadband's checker are so at variance with one another, and with Speedtest, net, that it seems all three are using different technologies in pursuit of the same thing. Either way, upload speeds continue to be much, much faster than download speeds, a state of affairs I certainly have never encountered before.
    8) Speedtest net tests taken in the past 10 minutes, with one test following on from its predecessor, begin at 8.24 down/8.88 up, followed by 5.24 down / 6.40 up, followed by a mind-numbingly lonnnnng 0.62 down / 8.70 up -- in other words, a continuous yo-yoin g of Internet connectivity to the pooint that it actually might as well not even be here (I've had to make five attempts just to get on to this forum. . .)
    9) BT Speedtest will necessitate disconnection of everything downstairs and all boxes being lugged up here. This is actually going to require uncoililng tied-off cabling and hanging off a stepladder to do so -- though I surely can't be the only person in Britain who doesn't have a nice, handy BT master socket in their study or lounge. That said though: until we switched to Infinity, we *never* experienced these kinds of horrendous connectivity problems and never had need to unplug the Netgear router downstairs and bring it upstairs to connect directly to tjhe desktop PC so BT's own test could be run.
I'll just have to get to work dismantling stuff tomorrow. However, I have to say that after a factory re-set which has changed nothing at all, I'm beginning to think there's a problem with the BT line itself (hence why I'm happy to follow the advice here, though less than happy at the prospect of the messing about involved.)
Thanks, you two, for your patient help, and also for clarifying the situation re the three signal paths being shown on inSSIDer. At least I know that's usual now! And now, hopefully, when I press 'Post', I won't be faced with an endlessly spinning Firefox circle culminating in  what may well be, or seem to be, the 57,938th time today of seeing "Page Not Found". . .

  • WiFi Internet connectivity problems after upgrade to 10.8.4

After upgrading to MacOS 10.8.4 I am facing regular interruptions to my WiFi internet connectivity. Periodically the internet connectivity is lost and the only way to fix the problem is to turn WiFi off and on again. This happens frequently when I am downloading files at using big bandwidth (more than 1.5-2 MB/s). If I use assist me on the Network preferences tab, it displays an ISP error when the connectivity is down, however I am certain that I do nota have any kind of ISP or router issue since at the same time I have WiFi internet connectivity from my iPad mini, iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S3. Therefore it should be a 10.8.4 issue

  • Trying to update iPod software; Connection problems.

Okay, so I have the iPod Touch 4th Gen, and when I plugged it into my computer, iTunes said that there was a iPod software update available. I've tried several times to download the update, but every time I try the same thing happens: It only downloads a few hundred KB of it, then it stops there, and the remaining time displayed keeps going up until it shows up to 24 hours or more, and finally, an error message comes up saying it couldn't complete the request because of connection problems. (error = -3259)
On a similar note, when downloading songs from iTunes, I constantly have to pause and resume them in order for them to fully download. Otherwise it just stops where it is.
However, I can still connect to the store just fine, with only a very few timeouts here and there, but those are easily remedied by re-visiting the page I tried to view.
So, clearly I have some sort of issue with my connection to iTunes. Can someone please help me?

care to share what the other way to download it is??
My boss has an ipad, last week he downloaded the 2 entire seasons of 24, and a season of Rescue Me with no problems at all, now he's trying to download a movie and he keeps getting this error. If those shows downloaded just fine why won't the movie download? Our Windows firewalls are disabled by Group Policy so that's not the problem... and our security software hasn't changed since last week when he successfully downloaded those shows so that shouldn't be the issue either. We don't use proxys. He's wired to the internet so it's not a wireless timing out on him issue. He's on the latest version of itunes. He's logged out of itunes store, shut down itunes, and relogged in... same problem.

  • Display Resolution problems

I have a 17" MacBook pro with Lion on it as of 3 days ago. Been working fine until I connected my 30" display to it. When I connected it, the display went all wonky. I rebooted, disconnected, many combination of each. Now my MBP will not even display at full resolution when disconnected from the external monitor. Scoured this forum and the internet for similar problems, and while I found multiple issues relating to displays with a Lion upgrade, I did not see any issues specifically with screen resolution.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Will

    Hi Capt,
Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately not the solution. I have the two screens in extend mode, and both at max resolution (2560x1600 for the 30" and 1920x1200 for the laptop display).
It seems the computer is having difficulties fitting the screen onto the monitor, like it does when you select a resolution that is too large for your monitor. The entire screen is being rendered, but I have to pan right and down to see the whole thing. When I have the external display connected (as main screen), I can see part of it on the laptop display. So the rendering is working... it just cant display at the correct resolution.

  • Thinkpad Edge S430 - Windows does not detect external display connected via HDMI

On a Thinkpad S430 with HD4000 integrated graphics, an external display connected via a HDMI cable is not detected at all when using Windows. The system is fully updated as of the time of posting this message, both via the Lenovo Update tool as well as Windows update.
The Intel driver version is 8.15.10.2696. It appears that this is the latest version, since it does not offer an update when I try to auto-update it via Device Manager.
NB: I am running Ubuntu 12.04 with kernel 3.4.0 on the same machine, and the external display works perfectly fine with this software configuration.
Hence I think that it's very likely that this is a Windows-specific driver issue.
Would Lenovo happen to have a driver update in the works? Alternatively, I will be thankful for any suggestions about possible resolution of this problem.

  • Thunderbolt display-connected keyboard fails to wake MacBook Pro

I'm having intermittent problems with my keyboard when I use my rMacBook Pro in clamshell mode attached to an Apple Thunderbolt Display. With increasing frequency, when I sleep the Mac, close it and attach it to the display, I cannot wake up the computer using the Apple keyboard that is attached (USB) to the display. Unplugging and repluggin the keyboard does nothing.
I can wake up the computer with a Bluetooth keyboard & login (screensaver), and the Bluetooth keyboard continues to work fine. Nut the wired keyboard never works.
However, if I simply restart the Mac, the display-connected keyboard always begins working again.
I belive this rules out a hardware problem, but I'm open to suggestions. (It's happened repeatedly—maybe ten times over the last several months. But with increasing frequency.)
I can post console logs if that would help.
    Any ideas?

    Clinton,
Thanks for your interest in my question. I actually own a 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display, which works with other Retina Display Macbook Pro, but not mine anymore... That's why I suppose the problem comes from my laptop's thunderbolt ports.
    Any clue?
    Thanks very much in advance.

  • Nokia 6700 USB cable connectivity problem -fixed-

Ok, got my 6700 today. Everything worked like a charm, until I tried to connect it to my PC using the supplied USB cable. I downloaded and installed the latest Nokia PC suite which supports this phone (7.1.30.9) and connected the phone. Vista was unable to install a driver, and the phone was listed in the device manager as 'unknown usb device'. The phone display reported 'no response from host' after plugging in the usb cable.
I searched online for a solution, and tried the following:
    - repaired the install of the Nokia connectivity cable driver: no success.
    - deinstalled the nokia pc suite, ran the pc suite cleaner, rebooted and reinstalled the pc suite: no success.
    - threw away the unknown usb device in the device manager and plugged the cable back in so that Vista would try to install the driver again: no success.
    - tried other USB slots (not behind HUB): no success.
At this point I was so frustrated that I decided to take out the supplied 1gb micro sd card and transfer some data to it using a card reader. When I looked in the root of the sd card, I noticed that there was an executable called pc-suite.exe there, among some other files. I decided to delete those files to see if they were causing the problems, I deleted the following files:
    - autorun.inf
    - launcher.exe
    - pc-suite.exe
    - qf
Replaced the micro sd card in the phone, plugged in the usb cable and voila: connection! Everything worked like a charm.
During my online search I noticed I wasn't the only one experiencing connectivity problems with the 6700. Maybe this fix will help other people as well, that's why I decided to post it here. ;-)

Thanks Peter, nice job - same problem, your solution is working. Shame on Nokia - i have so many problems with E52, and now with 6700 - why ? Is it so difficult to make a reliable software ? So disappointed ... maybe Apple is the solution - but after 10 years with Nokia why change with Apple ?

  • 6500 Cable Connectivity Problem

    Hello,
I have just upgraded my phone to a Nokia 6500. I have installed the software on my pc. I have connected the cable to the phone and it has asked me to select the type of connection e.g. pc suite etc. When I select pc suite nothing connects to the pc. The phone display keeps asking for to select the pc suite etc. Again and again
I think that there is a cable connecting problem on the phone.
Has anyone else had this problem??
    Thanks
    Steve

    HI,
The sane problem exists for me too. Its not detecting the phone, no response.

  • BB Bold connecting problems

BB Bold 9000, BDM version 7.1.0.32, Windows 7 64 bit Professional, antivirus (DrWeb) and firewall (Agnitum Outpost).
When logging in as an Administrator, synchromization works, BB connecting to PC instantly, so the cable, firewall and antivirus are not causing any troubles. No problems.
When logging in as a User, BDM displays "Connecting" with green ring turning. Waiting for 20 minutes - nothing happens at all, no connect (sign "Connecting" is still there). The problem came out recently - about a month or so ago. No sofware installation, save some ugrade of exisiting software.
What could be the reason of such behavior of BDM / PC?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
If the software was installed by Admin, but not properly shared to all users, and then if the update was done in a different manner, that could have confused the rights within Windows, causing this odd behavior.
    I suggest this thread:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having. You may want to do everything while logged in as Admin, as well as use "Run As Admin" for all that you can. You may also consider installing it while logged in as the user, if it's only that user who will be using it.
    Good luck!

You don't describe the problem in great detail.  Is this the issue you are describing?

If so, then, "Yes."  I have the same problem.  Note that this isn't a tracking speed problem for me, it's a lag between my hand moving and the pointer moving on the external display.
