Display Incorrect Java Version

Hi Java Guru,
I'm new to the Java therefore hope those out there could help me rectify this problem I faced when installing JAVA 2 Platform, Standard Edition(J2SE) 1.4.0 onto customer sun manchine; E450. Previously, they installed Version 1.3. After following the installtion note from the Java.sun.com site to install Version 1.4, when issuing java -version it still pointing back to version 1.3 instead of newer version 1.4.
Hope you Java Guru can help to solve this as I've searched thru' the website to find out the solution but until now still no avail. Thanks in advance for the help.

You might want to try the command:which javato make sure you are running the right java program when you type it at the prompt. This unix command displays the path to the java program that is executed. Then you might be able to determine if it is a path-problem or maybe a link pointing the wrong way.

Displaying Identity Manager version/patch level

A customer asked how he can tell what Identity Manager version/service pack upgrade he has.
I said use the command $WSHOME/bin/lh -version
Customer reports that that simply displayed the java version he has. Not useless but not what was expected.
So just how do I determine the IDM version?
It ought to be IDM5.0 SP5.

I try the Help tab on the Identity Manager main window
After clicking Contents and the About Identuty manager I am rewarded with an About Identity Manager dialog box in 2 languages!!
The problem is that it shows the version as v5 SP1
But I have not applied Service Pack 1. I installed v5.0 and then went directly to SP5.

Java version incorrect?

Hi, I've recently downloaded and installed "Java for Mac OS X 10.5, Update 1 adds Java SE 6 version 1.6.0_05 to 64-bit Intel Macs" from this link:

However, when I checked Java version (http://www.javatester.org/version.html), I see this version:
1.5.0_16 from Apple, Inc
On certain sites, I get incompatibility error that I need version 6 update 10. How do I get this right version? Is the 1.6.0_05 working as intended, and if yes, why is the program detecting I'm using 1.5.0_16?

You can see what versions of both Java applets and applications you have installed and change the search order.

Storage values under about this mac displaying incorrectly, but amount of space used IS correct. Any ideas?

I noticed recently that the "storage" under "about this mac" is displaying incorrectly. It doesn't show the correct values for my photos, videos, and audio files. It classifies this data under "other". I have been searching all over the internet, I went to the Apple genius bar yesterday and they recommended I re-install OSX. I did and it still shows up incorrectly. They were baffled, said they never really came across this issue. I have tried re-indexing spotlight, that didn't seem to help.
The amount of storage used IS correct. It just doesn't show up under the correct categories in storage, under about this mac. Also, the computer seems to work fine. No real issues. It's a mid 2012 MBP. 500gb hard drive. Most recent OSX is installed.
I DO NOT think it is local snapshots, cause my backups category is small and the amount of space used and free is correct. I have downloaded omnidisk sweeper to confirm this.
I have seen a few posts on here and around the web referring to this, but no real answers. I have also reviewed Pondini's info on this to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas?!?!

I had installed a version of parallels with windows 7, but deleted it. Would parallels be causing my computer to index incorrectly? I I used appcleaner to delete all the parallels files so I do not have it anymore.

The song titles are displayed incorrectly, how do I fix this?

Ever since an update of itunes a couple of months ago, the titles have been displayed incorrectly in my library. I listen to a lot of Chinese, Korean, and Japanese music and after the update the information turned into squares. I went online and tried the much given solution of converting the id3 tags. This resulted in all my songs (even the english ones) turning to Chinese script when I reversed unicode, which was solved by reversing it again. However after trying all the id3 versions I am now left with a part of my songs being displayed as ?????? and with the other, largest part having the correct names but with the symbol Ƞ spread throughout the titles, which is annoying to say the least.
Other programmes on my computer display the different scripts just fine, and I have Japanese and Korean installed so as to be able to write it. The songs are also still displayed correctly if I acces them in their folders.
I am kind of losing hope after trying to find a solution on the internet for a while now, and have even re-installed itunes completely, to no avail.
If anyone has any suggestions or possible solutions, I'd be very grateful.

Sounds like you have been on the right track with regard to troubleshooting this issue. It may be worth going over the font troubleshooting in the following article, just to double check (it refers to a previous version of iTunes, but the troubleshooting steps should be similar).

Invalid characters displayed in java-based tool

I'm having problems with a java applet that works fine on the vast majority of PCs, with 1 exception. The one in question runs Windows 7 32 bit professional, IE8. Java versions 27,29, and 31 have been tried, with the same results.
There are several fields, each of which has a title and a default value. On a working PC, the field names are:
Mortgage amount:
Term:
Interest rate:
Monthly payment (PI):
Annual property taxes:
Annual home insurance:
Monthly payment (PITI):
On a PC that its not working:

There are more fields, but that's an example. it may not be exactly correct, since the spacing and character overlap makes it hard to differentiate some characters.
All the browser troubleshooting has been done (reset, cleared temps, deleted active X objects etc.)
Cleared all local cache, java cache and ran ccleaner
Checked Windows region, language, currency etc settings
Tried to reinstall java, tried 3 different versions (27, 29, 31)
Tried the local Admin profile and problem persists across multiple profiles.
If anyone has any ideas about which settings could possibly cause this character translation, I would be very appreciative. There appers to be a 1:1 correlation of characters, for example:

R = S
Could it be some kind of java / unicode setting?

We've reset the browser, even tried IE9, with the same result. There's no toolbars installed and machine tested clean for adware. With no java installed, the webpage displays sans mortgage calculator. What seems strange is that some of the text displays properly, as you can see in the picture, so that's why I wonder if its just one particular font that's not being displayed properly? The entire rest of the web page, and everything else that uses java works fine, it seems like it's just this one particular calculator.
It's at the point where the OS may just need to be reinstalled, though it seems like a small, petty thing to reinstall the OS for... but without a solution i don't really have any other options.

BUG: Info panel displays incorrect Hue values

Recently, I've been doing a lot of work with color in Fireworks and came across the following bug, which appears to be a longstanding issue within the application. Rather than keeping it to myself, I figured I'd post it here in addition to submitting a bug report with Adobe. So here it is...
Hue values displayed within the Info panel (in HSB mode) do not consistently match the values displayed in the Color Mixer panel—including basic colors such as pure Yellow, Cyan, and Magenta. The values are 1 degree off—most often below the Color Mixer value, but sometimes above (as with Magenta). This holds true whether using with the Eyedropper tool or the Color Picker swatches eyedropper, and whether sampling from the canvas or from swatches.
For example, the following inconsistencies were observed when sampling the centermost horizontal strip within CS6's default Color Cubes swatches picker. Note that over 50% of these colors are affected by the issue.
The Color Mixer seems to display the correct values, while the Info panel's values appear to be incorrect. Note that this issue affects the HSB mode only; the RGB and Hex values are consistent between both panels.
This bug has been observed in Fireworks CS6, Fireworks CS5.1 and Fireworks 8 on Mac OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).

Results: In both steps 3 and 4, the Hue value for pure Yellow (#ffff00) appears as 60 degrees in the Color Mixer panel but 59 degrees in the Info panel.
Expected results: The Hue for pure Yellow (#ffff00) should appear as 60 degrees in both panels.

I haven't done anything other than add my footage to the timeline. I have 2 layers (1 targa seq and 1 png seq). As I move my mouse from the Timeline to the Comp Panel, the color values flash for a split second and go away. If I press Opt+1 (2, 3, and 4) the Info Panel displays the color for that one pixel but the values go blank as soon as I move my mouse. This happens in the Comp Panel mostly. If I open a Footage or Layer Panel, sometimes the values show, sometimes not. Never had this issue in previous versions.

Problems with the images displaying incorrectly

I have done a couple of installs before this of the new Apex 4 deployed on weblogic 10.3.3 with no problems but this one has "stuck a spanner in the works". I have also looked through the forums and was unable to find a solution to the problem I am seeing. I am about to start an SR if no one is able to help on the forums.
This is my problem;
I am able to view the individual images in the images directory via the http for e.g. http://hostname.domain:7001/apex/i/date.gif and this displays correctly.
I am not able to view the http://hostname.domain:7001/apex/f?p=4550:1:2874725903020187 images as they are not displaying.
In the troubleshooting section of the install guide it mentions;
A.4 Images Displaying Incorrectly in Oracle Application Express
If images in Oracle Application Express do not display correctly, you may have more than one definition of the /i/ alias. To address this issue:
If possible, rename the first instance of /i/ to a different alias name.
Alternatively, copy the images from the ORACLE_HOME\apex\images directory to the directory defined by the first /i/ alias.

Some Hebrew HTML displayed incorrectly (left to right) in outlook 2013

office 2013 with Hebrew language pack on windows 7 professional English version. Some messages in outlook display Hebrew HTML incorrectly (Left to Right). Not all of the message displayed incorrectly but just some parts of it. It offers me to view the
message in a browser and when I do, the browser displays the message correctly. I've extracted from the source code an example of code that is displayed incorrectly:

correctly display right-to-left scripts, you must

Please also check if you have set Outlook to use UTF-8:

Using DRS to specify Java version when executing JNLP file.

We have an application that executes from a JNLP file that we are told is version sensitive. We have a rule set created for a number of apps that work just fine to meet this goal. However, when creating a rule to execute this JNLP application we are having issues getting it to work. To simplify the process we created a certificate hash rule for this application and when reviewing console\trace we can see it correctly identifying and executing under the Java 6U29 environment. The issue is that even though 6u29 is being invoked it does not work (merely displays a "application error" message). However, if I instead launch the JNLP file using the Javaws.exe in the 1.6.0_29 folder the app loads fine. When comparing behavior with the rule set environment and a 6u29 only environment I saw some peculiar entries.

So it appears that the 6u29 version of Javaws.exe is getting called however some of the configured paths are being set to the 8u25 path. Not sure if its a cause but does seem to be relevant since on the exact same system if I run the JNLP specifically with the 6u29 exe it works as expected. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Why does flash site display incorrectly when i have Flash Professional installed?

It appears that if I have Flash Professional installed or even Flash Professional CC, my Flash web site displays incorrectly in IE 10/9/8 and various versions of Firefox. This replicates on multiple computers, Windows 7, Windows 8 and has been an issue for 2+ years. On those same computers I can create virtual PCs, install FF and IE and view my site w/o problems and on many other computers it displays correctly. Design elements that should only be visible in the application are displayed in the browser when I have the apps installd. The first image is WIndows 7 running in virtual computer with IE9, the 2nd one is from the host computer using IE9. Any help will be appreciated.

All Menus in Firefox Display Incorrectly

Every menu in Firefox displays incorrectly. All menus appear to be the entire Firefox window shrunk down into the bounds of the menu. I can even see part of the menu in the stretched version. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit and I've reinstalled Firefox several times. I wonder if it has something to do with my Window FX 5.1, but I've set it to exclude Firefox as an app.

Sounds like you have been on the right track with regard to troubleshooting this issue. It may be worth going over the font troubleshooting in the following article, just to double check (it refers to a previous version of iTunes, but the troubleshooting steps should be similar).

It may also be worth trying some isolation troubleshooting in new test user account with just a couple of the tracks that are having issues to see if it persists.

Java Version verification

We use multiple versions of Java in our environment ( both 1.6 and 1.7).
when a user goes to "http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp" to verify what is the expected behavior.
we are seeing different behaviors and want to know what is to be expected.
1) displays the greatest version installed and mentions if it is current or not.
2) displays the greatest version installed and prompts the user to uninstall previous versions.
i am uploading some screenshots.
we expect it to just mention the version you have and if you are current or not, but wanted to verify.

I don't think so. I'm able to launch the installer for the quick fix that's included with the service pack.
When I initially launch the script, I'm getting a "/bin/sh^M: bad interpreter" error. When I use dos2unix to fix that problem, the installer crashes with the message from the OP.
