Display no longer dims after 3.6.4???

Kind of noticed this throughout the course of the day so I just tested it to be sure and after testing I'm positive that ever since around the time of the update today my display no longer dims.
Screensaver still works fine though. Guess if you're using a desktop this doesn't really matter
but on a laptop you need every ounce of juice out of the battery you can muster.
My overall experience of this update has not been a good one. Not that anything really negative has happened. I haven't encountered the problems other people are but I have found three things in less than 24 hours that indicate to me that this update is vastly different than 3.6.3, which happened to work quite well for me.
1. ValueClick Corporation (NASDAQ:VCLK) now accompanies my Google search when I use the default search bar. (For those that don't know what I'm talking about, I'm referring to one of the important online advertising companies trying to "help" me with my searches. This happens in the background. The only reason I noticed it is because I monitor my port activity.)
This wasn't so with prior versions of Firefox. At least as of yesterday it wasn't.
2. Plug-in container. Added together with this new feature Firefox is now using 100-160K of RAM. That's about twice as much as the 3.6.3 version I was using previously. I'm not even sure why I need a plug-in container, considering that I have never experienced any flash or other plug-in problems in the past.
3. You guessed it. How did you know? Oh...that's right. Like I stated before, I kind of noticed that my display wasn't dimming throughout the course of the day but didn't pay it much mind.
Now that I have time I tested it, and sure enough it is not dimming. The fact is it is no longer dimming but this may not be a Firefox issue at all, but I do know for a fact it was fine yesterday.
I did uninstall a program first thing yesterday before I connected to the internet and Firefox updated so I realize that could very well be the culprit. Either way this is a support forum so I thought I would ask if anyone else has experienced this. If not I can take a likely guess that it's my computer and not the Firefox browser.
Despite these small complaints, at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. I have windows 7 that I have already integrated with the drivers I need that I haven't gotten around to installing yet, but when I do I will happily download Firefox 3.6.3.
In reality I'm glad that Mozilla created an alternative to IE for us. I may not be thrilled with this latest version but I do know there are others that work very well for me. The Linux version on Ubuntu works like a charm too.
In a strange convoluted way I think I may be saying "thanks Mozilla".
== This happened ==
Not sure how often

Mathias,
Thank you for helping me (any so many others) back up and running :)
PS - Allowed my desktop (old pentium 4 running winxp) to update to FF3.6.4 and it worked just fine without the updated iMacros. Not sure what is different between the 2 machines, but figured you might like to have the info.

  • Detect Displays no longer works after upgrade

Mac Mini 2009 - two weeks old, came with Leopard. Took some doing, but have it hooked up to Sony Bravia 40" LCD via Mini-Display port to VGA adaptor. Detect Display worked fine, connected at High Def resolution. Upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.1 today, and Detect Displays finds nothing, I can't get any more than 1280 x 768 out of the display, no high-def. Tried many of the tricks I found in forum - zapped PRAM, booted into safe mode, deleted windowsserver preference plist files. No avail. Is this a general problem with Snow Leopard?

I do have the same problem with the macbook alum. After the upgrade, i have no more resolution of 1080i, becouse it fails. Only res like 1280*1024 is the max i can get. I figured out that the profile of my LCD bravia is no longer detected by the display manager, back in 10.5 it was "Sony Lcd" (or something) now is "Vga display". EXTREMELY WEIRD is that after a lot of test's (reset ram, delete profiles, etc, etc) i try to change my vga cables, first try... no luck, back to the classical cable and "MAGIC" 1080i res came out of nowhere, and the profile was Sony LCD... but it was just one time (i reboot and it was gonne!!!) i haven't been able to recreate the same thing. So i still stuck with this subject and low res for the mini VGA display adapter!!!

  • External display no longer works after Mavericks install

I have a minidisplay port to DVI adapter that connects my Macbook Pro to my television through HDMI port (cable is HDMI to DVI).
This has worked fine for over 2 years, but as soon as I upgraded my Leopard OS to Mavericks, it stopped working.
A side topic is that my Android TV media centre also stopped working as it can no longer connect to my Macbook Pro (it used to work for the past few years).
What am I doing wrong? How can I solve my problems? I have tried everything on the forums, but nothing works at all.
Help, please, pretty please with sugar on top and a cherry!
    Carlos

I'm not sure how installing an application would cause that to happen. Have you shut down (powered off) the iMac completely, and then restarted, since this problem occurred?
Some display settings are stored in PRAM, so if you have not already, try resetting PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If that does not help, you can try disconnecting the iMac from power and reconnecting it, using the reset SMC (power management) procedure.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
When you reconnect it, initially connect the iMac to a wall outlet, by itself. Leave all peripherals disconnected, except for your USB keyboard/mouse. Make sure it is working properly, then connect only the external display.
If it still does not work, as a test, start up with your Mac OS X installation disc. You are not installing anything, but note if the second display is displaying the background image or not when you are booted from a different system.

  • X230T display dims after BIOS start

MY X230T was originally supplied with Windows 7 Pro. Apparently as a result of twiddling with the power management options on that platform, the display dims significantly between starting the BIOS and logging in to Windows. Specifically: 1. The BIOS screens are displayed at normal brightness 2. The screen then dims to a very low level while Windows loads. The hotkeys are not active at this time. 3. Under Windows 7, the login screen would remain dim until I pressed a key, or clicked on the screen with the mouse. Under Windows 8, the "lock screen" is already displayed at full brightness. This would not be a big deal, except that when booting another OS from a CD (e.g. Clonezilla Live), the display can remain dim, which makes the SW very difficult to use. Needless to say, the hotkeys also do not work under such foreign OSs. I have moved on to Windows 8 as a result of problems with VSS and can no longer find any such power options, either in the BIOS settings, the Windows Power Options or the Power Management settings in the Lenovo Settings metro app. How can I get the display brightness to remain constant during startup?

Hey, I have same or similar problems with graphic card on same notebook (P200D 12O PSPBQE):
Some times, hard to define, probably when computer is connected to the electricity and used for some hours, a strange effect occurs: the background, strangely without the active window looks like it has reduced number of colors to like 16. Maybe 'without active window' means that only certain ranges of colors are affected and mainly white active window is not because of it's white color, just a theory for now.
The problem is solved either by restarting or by unplugging the power cable. Unplugging the power cable from the computer causes serious not-very-healthy-looking flickering of the screen which after few seconds becomes black and then recovers back to normal. After such recovery, the Vista says something like: the dispaly driver or hardware recovered from serious error. And then the colors are ok again.
I suspect that in my case the problem is caused by electricity disturbance, probably caused by the older refrigerator, because every time I notice this problem, the refrigerator is on. Or precisely true: I have never seen the problem when refrigerator was not working, at least ofr now. I plugged the computer on other end of appartment, electricaly farther away from refrigerator and on another fuse, but the problem still occurs, but less frequently, I think. I will try to take picture of the problem.
Quite strange problem, probably hard to present to the people who sold me the computer. Maybe the pictures of the problem will help.

sounds like you broke the display when you dropped it.  There's nothing we users here can do for you.
Since the iPhone warranty does not cover accidental damage, you will have to pay to have your phone repaired or replaced.  You can bring it into Apple for an out of warranty exchange in the country of purchase, or you can find a 3rd party iPhone repair store in your area.

  • Display automatically dims after a minute or so

    Hi,
My display dims after a couple of minutes of inactivity which can be quite annoying if you are viewing a movie etc, I cant find the setting which controls this, any clues people

Try System Preferences > Energy Saver.
If 'System Preferences' is not in your Dock you should find it in /Applications.

  • Display keeps dimming after 30 seconds, randomly!

After 30 seconds or so, the brightness will dim. I know this can be turned off (at least I think), but I can't figure out what is causing it. It also seems to be random, but that may just be my imagination.
How can I keep my display from dimming after 30 seconds? Thanks.
    Ryan

You might try to reset the SMC and/or PRAM.

  • Display dims after only 60 seconds

When I use my MBP built in display, it dims and then blanks out after only 60 seconds. I do not have screen saver on or anything like that. This is running on battery.
But when running on AC connected to an external monitor, with the lap tops screen being the secondary display, the MBP dims the same way, though doesn't go black.
How can I disable this, sometime I spend more than a minute reading something and it is annoying.
New switcher since January, love it!
    Rich

This happens to me as well. The option to reduce brightness is unchecked on my system under energy saver as well. I also have automatic brightness adjustment turned off under displays as well.

  • Cannot prevent display from dimming after period of inactivity

once again, another weird unexplainable problem that has been discussed on here but never quite solved. this has nothing to do with the ambient light sensor or the "pass your hand over the speaker grill" situation.
the problem is that my screen dims after about 2 minutes of inactivity. I've got the "reduce screen brightness before sleep" UNchecked, and the "adjust brightness as ambient light changes" is also UNchecked. I've made these settings for both the power adapter and the battery. I don't see any reason why the screen should dim unless I've checked the option to make it do so.
    any ideas?

    I found this:
    http://www.technodaddy.com/wp/2005/07/24/mac-tip-how-to-stop-tiger-from-half-dim ming-your-screen/
which I tried, and it worked. however, when I listed the current state (according to the directions) it was already at 0 (zero) but I did the command as directed and it doesn't dim any more.
    cheers!

  • Monitor dimming after less than a minute really starting to annoy me...

    Hey!
This is my first post on here... and I'm posting because I've just started getting really fed up with how the display slightly dims after a minute or less of me not typing or moving the cursor... If I need a page open to read, I have to constantly touch the trackpad in order for the light to come on again so I can see what I'm reading...
I have looked ALL OVER the settings, and the only thing I can find to change is how long it takes for the computer to go into sleep mode... and there's is another thing where you can check it to have the display fade before going to sleep.... but even if I uncheck this, then instead of the display fading, it goes completely black after a minute or less...
I just want to adjust the amount of time it takes for the display to dim... Please! Is anyone else annoyed with this? I can't even watch a youtube video without being interrupted about 4 times by the screen fading...
Thank you to anyone that can help me!

  • Internet Explorer 9 no longer works after an uninstall of HP Support Centre

Internet Explorer 9 no longer works after an uninstall of HP Support Centre and drivers for 3 HP All-in-One printers (psc1310, C4180, F4200).  Intend to re-install for just C4180.  I selected option to remove for all related software, though the HP Update and Photosmart Essentials have been left.  IE9 stops working when launched (even when launched with no add-ons and with Protected Mode disabled and Advanced Settings restored) and regardless of initial URL.  If I remove the IE9 update then IE8 works fine.   I tried re-installing IE9 update, twice, and it continues to fail.
I’m running Vista 32 Home Premium SP2 on Samsung Q210 with Norton 360 v5, SpywareBlaster and Spybot - Search & Destroy.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I now believe the problem with IE9 was not related to HP, but to a Windows Update replacement to the “Intel Corporation - Display - Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family” drivers:  Intel Corporation Display software update released in February, 2011 (useless link  http://winqual.microsoft.com/support/?driverid=20411791).   IE9 started working OK when I set “Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering*” (see http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1678709 with reference to “faulting module igdumdx32.dll”), so will now investigate removing that update.
Sorry to have cast aspersions on HP.  MS did this to themselves, as usual.

  • Apogee Jam No longer working after 1.1 update?

My apogee jam is no longer working after updating to Garageband 1.1. I have an Ipad 2 with firmware 4.3.3.
    Specifically what happens is:
    1. I open the garageband app
    2. I select the guitar amp
    3. I plug the Jam chord into Ipad (guitar is already connected to cord)
    4. Jam light goes green, blue, bright green then green
When Jam light goes bright green, the monitor button in garageband goes dim and doesn't work.
I've tried plugging my guitar in first, then starting garageband, no difference in results.
I have tried turning the monitor "on" prior to pluging in the jam, when I do this the monitor/sound gate window stays open until the Jam bright green goes on, then it disappears and the monitor button goes dim.
Outside the garageband app, the ipad does recognize the Jam in settings, general.
What's worse (for me...) is that I backed up the Ipad in itunes thinking that app data would also be backed up (as I read that in a description of backup). I then deleted garageband from the ipad and then restored it from itunes. Guess what, lost all my songs... Bummed out... Why wouldn't my songs be backed up???
Anyway, any ideas on the Jam issue would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping I am just overlooking a setting?

Unfortunately, I don't believe that Apple keeps prior versions of Apps available at the store. GB was the first app I purchased there day one of my Ipad, incredibly worth the $, and I did actually look to see if you could go back legitimately. This is just one of the many reasons to JBreak your devices, so that you can go backward if you need to. This is a perfect example of why Apple should make prior versions available, but they think they know it all and never make mistakes, so that will never happen. Again, this is why folks take things into their own hands and why the scene exists. There are plenty of abuses, more than not IMO, but here is a perfect example of how people are screwed and can't use their Jams any longer without a JBroken device. They obviously know that this issue exists, they have employees on these forums. It will be months if ever they fix this issue, because the number of owners of Jam, although in the thousands, is small potatoes compared to the Apple owner universe. I believe it will only be fixed if Apogee is able to put enough pressure on Apple. If you see the Jam removed from the Apple store and GB site you know that Apple is choosing not to fix it, because they won't sell or promote it directly and then have to deal with complaints and returns. But even this will happen slowly...
Actually it occurs to me that Apogee may have to redesign the Jam AGAIN in order to get it working with 1.1 on Ipad 2 and Iphone 4s (devices with the newer processor). I wonder if they will recall or replace the Jams for people who now have Jams not compatible with Garageband. Again, Apple should be posting a warning for Jam owners on the Garageband download page, but that will never happen because Apple doesn't care about small potatoes.

  • My iPod is showing a white screen. I could not see anything. But I can listen to songs by blindly pressing the play button twice. The battery comes only for an hour.? How do I get the display and longer battery?

    Hello Friends,
I've two iPod Nanos (4th gen - 8GB). I'm facing a severe problem with both of them. For both iPods, I tried to do this method Simultaneously press the top button + home (central) button. But of no use.
    1. My first iPod is showing a white screen. I could not see anything. But I can listen to songs by blindly pressing the play button twice. The battery comes only for an hour.? How do I get the display and longer battery?
    2. My second iPod is facing more severe problem. None of the buttons are working. When I connect it my PC it showing "CONNECTED- eject before disconnecting". But it is not ejecting with all the usual methods. When I manually and physically disconnect it from the PC the same "CONNECTED- eject before disconnecting" is still showing till the battery goes off. After that if i press any button it is showing low battery signal. And when i re-connect it to the PC the same process is repeating. When I tied to restore it to the factory settings I'm getting "Error" report.
    (I'm using windows 7)
Friends, Please help me with the above problems. It will be a great help.
    Thank You.
    R.SAMALA

Sounds like some hardware issues, meaning you'll want to take or send the iPods in for service or repairs. You can choose to have Apple do an out of warranty exchange for the prices indicated in the link below or find another third party service perhaps even local to your area.
