Display of certificate when accessing a signed applet

HI
I have a signed applet which obviously displays a Certificate whenever it is Accessed.Now i would like the certificate to be displayed only once ie. ONLY when the applet is accessed for the first time and the user accepts(trusts) the certificate.The next time the user access the applet i do
not want the certificate to be displayed again as he has already accepted (trusted)the certificate.
is there a way to do this?
best regards
sumesh

Your user must import your certificate and store it as a trusted CA -- see step #9 on the link shown below:

    The problem I have is that you seem to not want to go through the documentation. Most people here will assist when you have problems but they do like to see some effort. If you had read though the JCE tutorial and done a Google search then you would have found out how process the content of a keystore. If at this point you still had a problem then posting the problem code would likely to be profitable but ...

  • Signed applet crashes

    Hello all!
    Has ever happened to someone that when using a signed applet, the browser crashes without giving an error or something?
    I made an applet that had to read a file on the server, then signed it, and when trying it, after the browser asked me if to trust the signature, all freezed and nothing else happened...
    I am developing an applet with NetBeans, the code in question is this:
    import java.io.*;*
    *import java.util.*;
    public class PhotoAlbum extends javax.swing.JApplet {
        /** Initializes the applet PhotoAlbum */

    }This is the basic code, I deleted all the instructions, leaving the one from where the error started (the filereader declaration)
    I don't have any idea on why the browser crashes...
    When the applet is unsigned, on the textbox is shown correctly the error "permission denied".
    On other files the signing procedure goes ok, since I tried it on a program I found on the internet @ http://www.captain.at/programming/java/

  • Signed Applet and native code

    Hi all,
    I have an application which I deploy with webstart and includes native code. This all works perfectly with webstart. I now want to deploy it as an applet. This works accept for the native code. I have done heaps of searching and cannot determine the most appropriate way to make the native code visible to the applet.
    Ultimately I am at the point where i recieve a UnsatisfiedLinkError when calling loadLibrary(...) for the native code. Currently i have the native code (dll's for windows, so's for Solaris etc) in independent jars which are also signed (as needed for webstart).
    Could anyone give me some advise or a reference to more info on this topic.
    I am using Java 1.5 and am happy to use 1.6 if neccessary.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Andrew - of course you were correct about the signed cert - I misspoke when the CA signed applet didn't show a warning. (You were also right that I must have checked 'always accept' the certificate on the server I had the CA signed cert on).
    I think you guys are on to something about the privileged actions. It would explain where one popup has the icon and the other doesn't. We have Javascript making calls into the applet and we do use JNI (although I don't think there are any calls back). We do wrap these calls in privileged actions but maybe we missed something. What I've seen before is a security exception is thrown if we don't wrap them - but maybe there are areas where we don't and it doesn't throw an exception or it does and we eat it somehow (and for whatever reason doesn't cause anything noticeable).
    Now that I know it could likely be the applet code and not necessarily a build issue with signing the jars, I have another place to look...
    I'll check it out and let you know what I find.

         throw new FileNotFoundException("Library not in search path " + lib);
        }The above code is called by a java script, the class' constructor is empty.
    The error appears not to be caught by my code. I have tried to insert try/catch statements everywhere to figure out where this error is produced.
    The code is write off of the applet for signing with a smart card by Svetlin Nakov - and his applet works!
    I have also made a CLI application that uses the above code and it works perfectly.
    So: Something is wrong either with my certificate, the signing method, signature verification or something completely different. Any hints?
    The certificate I generated with
    keytool -genkey -keystore mystore -alias me
    keytool -seflcert -keystore mystore -alias meI have tired both with and without the selfcert step.
    Thanks! Erik

    The problem has been identified: Placing registerProvider() in the constructor the error no longer occurs, instead an error is produced when the key store is loaded.
    It appears that the javascript code is not trusted and so, even though the applet is signed, access privileges are restricted to those of the java script.
    A solution to this problem is not clear, but possibly, serving the pages from a trusted server, the java script will be trusted, some documentation seem to indicate.

  • OS X 10.5.6, Safari 3.2.1 hangs when second applet loaded is signed applet

    Dear Forum,
    I've been investigating a customer's problem. She is trying to use our
    VoIP applet, but it continuously freezes Safari when the Trust dialog shows.
    A "Force Quit" is necessary.
    I managed to reproduce the problem consistently on
    - PowerMac7 OS X 10.5.6 (Build 9G55)
    - Architecture: ppc
    - Safari 3.2.1 (5525.27.1)
    - JVM 1.5.0_16 from Apple
    The problem is persistent when:
    - the signed applet is loaded as second applet in the browser
    - the signed applet is cached by the JVM
    Our customer uses:
    - Mac Book ProOS X 10.5.6
    - Safari 3.2.1
    - JVM 1.5.0_16 from Apple
    This problem does not occur on:
    - Mac OS X 10.4.11 (Mac Powerbook G4)
    - Safari 3.2.1 (4525.27.1)
    - JVM 1.5.0_16 from Apple
    and not on:
    - MacBook Air, OS X 10.5.6, 1.6 Ghz Intel core 2 duo
    - Safari Version 3.2.1 (5525.27.1)
    - JVM 1.5.0_16 from Apple
    Steps to reproduce the problem:
    Launch Safari.
    In (first) page/tab go to
    http://www.javatester.org/version.html
    (this uses a non signed applet)
    Open a second tab. Here go to:
    http://ukapi.phonefromhere.com/talk/vtop2.xsql?key=01612884242
    This is a signed applet that will ring our office over VoIP.
    Click the "Trust" button (signed by PhoneFromHere).
    As long as this applet isn't cached by the JVM this will work, so
    the first time you will succeed.
    Now Quit Safari (not "just" close all Safari windows, but a "real" quit) and repeat the exercise.
    The second (and next) time this will fail (only if the signed applet is loaded as second, so the order is important)! This keeps failing until I go (back) to the Java Preference window (via Finder) and explicitly delete the cached files.
    The URL will work when loaded first (cached or not).
    Some diagnostics, that might help:
    I configured the Java Preference window to "enable Logging, Tracing and Show applet livecycle exceptions".
    When the applet fails to load (and Safari freezes/hangs), the last few records of the plugin150.log are:
    <message>basic: Loading http://ukapi.phonefromhere.com/talk/lib/pfh.jar from cache
    <message>basic: Reading cached JAR file from JRE 1.5 release

    <message>security: Loading certificates from Deployment session certificate store
    <message>security: Loaded certificates from Deployment session certificate store
    <message>security: Checking if certificate is in Deployment session certificate store
    (and then nothing)
    whereas when it succeeds to load, as soon as I click the "Trust" button, it's say:
    <message>security: User has granted the priviledges to the code for this session only
    The Report is a bit too long to port, I'll include the same text above when sending it.
    Model: PowerMac7,2, BootROM 5.1.3f0, 2 processors, PowerPC 970 (2.2), 1.8 GHz, 2 GB
    To cut a long story short? Is this a know bug (I couldn't find anything, but you never know)? Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
    Thanks, Birgit

    I have the same issue now after downgrading my Flash plugin. I downgraded from 10 to 9 latest because I like using Camino and for some reason Flash 10 doesn't play nice with Camino. But all of a sudden as I use Camino 2b2 for everyday and Safari 3.2 for banking and such, the browser hangs requiring a forced quit when I close it. I've re-installed the browser twice now with all the previous folders, and preferences erased and caches emptied. I even when to re-installing 10.5.6 and it still crashes, it's odd. Maybe 10.5.7 will address this.

  • Access denied to a security provider on a signed applet

    Hi,
    I'm having permissions problems to work with a security provider.
    The security provider is already installed at java.security. In fact, at Netbeans when debbuging the app it's working perfectly.
    If I'm working the provider in an signed applet, then there are errors.
    Even, I have created a .jar file and I have saved in the /ext directory, wich by default in the java.policy file has got all security permissions.
    grant codeBase "file:${{java.ext.dirs}}/*" {
    permission java.security.AllPermission;
    Even with these granted permissions, I'm getting problems to work with the security provider that I have installed. Also, with these permissions I should be able to install the security provider.

    Bye

    Thank you for your information, Frank, as it clarifies part of my confusion. However, there are a couple more loose ends I'd love to address before I mark your responses as answers.
    Do backup and restore privileges apply at all over a network mount created via "net use"?
    The network mount requires a username and password for the destination machine. Assuming the destination machine is a Windows box with a simple CIFS share, how does this user affect our permissions and access? Do we end up effectively impersonating this
    user, or is the access check still done with our sync process's run-as user?
    We require that both our configured run-as user for our sync process *and* the credentials passed to the network mount be administrator users of the local system and destination system, respectively, meaning they're in of the "BUILTIN\Administrators,
    S-1-5-32-544" group.
    On re-syncs, the destination file will exist and since we don't have the ability to read the ACL in all cases (we're running as one user, the file is owned by another user, and we aren't specified in the ACL in any way), we aren't able to determine if the
    file has changed. Is it possible to determine the owner of this file in this case? Preferably, we'd obtain the entire SDDL.
    My proposed plan is to interpret access denied as a difference requiring re-sync, resulting in us taking ownership of the file, granting ourselves access, determining if there are data differences, and then re-syncing the metadata as appropriate.

  • Signed applet - NO Grant access dialog

    I've develped a signed applet which works with the java plugin 1.3.1 and a self signed certificate. while developing i followed the description from irene67 in this forum. every thing works perfektly apart from the grant access dialog. after installing my certificate and starting my applet nothing happens appart from an file.io.exceptino (access denied)! i've tried out everything i could find in about 200 articels in several forums. but in the meantime i have no idea what i can do! may be anybody can help me!

    At some point the Plug-in switched from using the Windows Certificate Manager to using the cacerts file. If you're using Plug-in 1.3.1, then it's using the cacerts file to determine whether the jar is signed with a certificate chain that ends with a trusted ca. Use keytool to import your certificate into cacerts. If you've already tried that, then maybe list the commands that you've issued in your attempt so we can have a look.

  • Signed applet accessing remote host getting AccessControlException

    I'm fairly new to java development, so hopefully this is an easy answer, but in my searching I haven't yet been able to figure out why this isn't working for me.
    I have a self-signed applet, running on a server in my intranet. I understood that using a signed applet would allow connecting to any host within the applet. In the applet, I'm using the following code to try to connect to a remote host, which is also in my intranet:
    import org.apache.commons.net.ftp.*;
    FTPClient ftp = new FTPClient();ftp.connect("[myhost]");
    //Where [myhost] is the name of the host I'm trying to connect to.This works fine when running from Eclipse Applet Viewer, but when I run from the website, I get the prompt to accept the signature and run. I click run. When the code above runs, I get the following exception:

    Bonjour,
    J'ai le problème que celui énoncé dans ce topic. Je réalise une applet ftp qui doit se connecter à un serveur ftp. J'utilise org.apache.commons.ftp.net et mon appli fonctionne sous eclipse mais pas intégré sur une page web.
    J'ai signé le jar commons-net-1.1.4.jar et le jar qui contient mon code et ça ne fonctionne pas.
    dois-je mettre toutes les classes de commons-net-1.1.4.jar dans mon fichier jar, je ne sais pas comment faire pour inclure commons-net-1.1.4.jar dans mon jar car lorsque je compile, je met le path dans eclipse mais je n'ai normalement pas besoin de mettre le commons-net-1.1.4.jar dans mon jar car les classes sont automatiquement importées.
    Merci de votre aide

  • Running signed applet on Java 5: Certificate not verified

    Hello!
    I am running my signed applet, it uses Bouncy Castle provider bcprov-jdk15-125.jar.
    My applet.jar is signed by my own certificate. When running from a browser, I get error message:
    Certificate Not Verified. Code will be treated as unsigned. Clicking on details button, read:
    Check leaf key usage failed in certificate. Then goes the stack trace.
    What is the problem? I was successfully ran it on J2SDK 1.4.2_05.
    Thanks.

    I get this same error for a signed webstart app in Java 5.0.
    In 1.4.2.x it works fine.

  • Java.security.AccessControlException: access denied; for a signed applet

    Hi,
    I have a signed applet which is used to read local files. When I call the applet method which is reading the file, from javascript I am getting "java.security.AccessControlException: access denied ". Where as if the method gets called during applet load, file is read without errors? How can I get over this problem?
    If there is a way loading the applet based on a condition from Javascript, please let me know.
    Thanks,
