Display Session issue in Essbase

Hi,
we currently upgraded to V11.1.2.2 from 9.3. In system 9 to see a list of sessions we used EAS and did a Edit Session on the server to get a list and it worked fine, but in System 11 the behavior of Edit sessions is different. Whenever we did Edit sessions it took the Essbase in a funky state which doesnt recover even when we kill all the ESSSVR sessions in the backend., ultimately we have to restart Essbase to bring it back up. We thought it could be an EAS issue and instead used MAXL command to list the sessions, "display sessions on application Sample;" and it was the same behavior as it has happened while displaying sessions from EAS which tells me its the Essbase function thats doing the harm.
Does anyone had seen this behavior with Version 11 or V11.1.2.2 specifically? FYI we are hosting Essbase on 64 Bit AIX. Is there tuning options that could resolve this issue? Any feedback is appreciated.

Turned out be an issue in EAS server on linux which oracle addressed with a patch.

Display session maxL command is hanging

Hi All,
I am using maxL editor in EAS console to execute the display session command.My requirement is to know the number of Active sessions in to a Essbase Application.
I execute the following maxL command
display session on database <APPLICATION_NAME>.<DB_NAME>;
But when I execute this statement it is not executed rather EAS console is totally hanged.I tried it using another essbase server but result remains the same.
I am able to execute other maxL commands like "display applicaion all" without any problem.
I even tried to execute maxL using java API but even there it is hanging.
I there anything I am missing or anything I can do to execute the command.
will really appreciate quick response.

For me the solution was in the essbas.cfg: NO_HOSTNAME_LISTCONNECT TRUE

When using the display session MaxL statement to view active login sessions, specifies whether to convert the IP address of the client computers that are logged into Essbase to the computer’s hostname.

SPML request and the display.session in form

Hi,
Does anyone know, how to get display.session in the form, when we get a SPML request?
Im sending SPML request to create user authenticating as user testid, and testuserform is assigned to that user.So when ever i get SPML request it comes through that form, but now have to call java function, How can i get display.session? because there is no display on SPML request.So how can i get display.session?
Any suggestion are appriciated.

I have the same issue in SPML Form. There's no way to get hold of LighthouseContext in spml2person form. display.session is absent and context variable has a null value. Without LighthouseContext I cannot invoke any FormUtil methods.....which is really paralyzing for my usage scenario.

Session Error - Cannot call getObject on :display.session on a user form

On an end user form I have a manager label.
The manager attribute in the user object holds the unique identifier but I must display the full name.
 
So I have the following code to go get the fullname:

Now it does go ahead and display the fullname but at the same time throws the following error on the page:

Since it is not a workflow I think I need to use the :display.session reference.
 
Is there another approach I could try? Do you have any suggestions?

You could also use the following for your session:

But the biggest problem I see is the string value User. I think it needs the following:

Mac Pro (Early 2008) and HP LP3065 30" display compatibility issue

Hello!
Is there FIX / Workaround to Mac Pro (Early 2008) and HP LP3065 30" display compatibility issue ? ( +w/ ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT display adapter+ ). Its really annoying problem :-/.
Main problem is when i start my Mac, my 30" HP screen dosen't wake up, it always on suspend mode. Sometimes it wakes up on the 3rd try orso, sometimes it ruins my motivation, ideas and i give up (talk about inspiration killer). If i connect PC Laptop to that screen, sreen wakes up straight away. ATI says display adapters "drivers" are included on the OSX install. Great. Weird thing is i didn't recognize this problem at all 6-8 months ago, so i thought my system is fine. So i can't return my HP screen anymore.
My choices are to buy another 30" screen or buy different display adapter; there's two choices atm i think;
*-ATI Radeon HD 3870 512MB PCI-E for Mac Pro (~200€)*
*-EVGA GeForce GTX 285 Mac Edition 1GB (~500€)* (this one has seperate OSX drivers).
_Can anyone confirm if those display adapters work with HP 3065 30" screen ?._

Thanks for all information. I haven't been Mac user very long . I just want to get rid of my annoying problem. I'll do music composing mainly on my Mac Pro. So, it dosen't really matter what display card i'm using, i want to just make sure it works with HP 3065 .

Brand New MacBook Pro and Display Adaptor Issue

Hello fellow Mac users, I've been a long-time Mac user and owner.
I just got a new MacBook Pro after using a 2006 model for 2 years and am having a display adapter issue that I need help and advice with:
The new MacBook Pro has the mini DVI display connector, my non-Apple external display is does not support the mini DVI, no problem there, I bought the display adaptor...
Except that it doesn't fit the adaptor that fit the 2006 MacBook Pro.

File comment: This is the adaptor that connected my 2006 MacBook Pro to the the display. It changes the connection from the Mac's DVI to fit the VGA connection of my display. There are the four extra pins around the flat pin to the left of the connector.
Somehow the male end of the mini DVI to the full-size DVI adaptor doesn't fit the female end of the full-size DVI to VGA adaptor! Please see the images. It seems a few extra pins prevent the connection!

Comment: This is where the problems begin. The flat portion lacks the four holes needed for the DVI to VGA adaptor to connect.
Is it possible to just remove the four offending pins in the Full Size DVI to VGA Male End?
Any help or suggestions highly appreciated, because as of now, my brand new MacBook Pro is less useful than the 2006 model, which can connect to my external display.

Hi Rob with a Mac and welcome to the boards.
My suggestion would be that you simply take the adaptor back and get a mini-display port to VGA adaptor instead.
I ran into a similar problem myself recently when I wanted to connect my own MBP13 to an overhead projector. I had assumed that I could use the mini display to DVI adaptor that I use for the DVI capable external monitor with my new MacBook, combined with a DVI to VGA adaptor that I had for my 2007 MBP, connected to a VGA cable to do the job, but this is not possible.
MiniDisplay to VGA adaptors for the newer MBPs are readily available at Apple dealers or through the online store and not too expensive.

Sessions issues and slowness of application

Problem Description: We are experiencing some session issues in our application built using ADF. After one of our recent deployment we are seeing some issues which are causing session values spilling across sessions. For example if a user A is logged in and searching with a value 123 in a certain form in the application, at the same time if another user logs in and opens up the same form he would see 123 value retained in the form. There are other similar issue which are being encountered like concurrent users being logged out randomly, the login name of one user showing up in another users screen, etc. This has recently been encountered and had not been seen until SIT. We are now into UAT and this hence impacts the business hugely as there is a team of end users who the business had made available to see the demos and test furher but with the above explained, the testing is on a stand stilll. We hence see an urgent response on this and request that this be dealt with on utmost priority. in addition to this we have been seeing poor performance especially while accessing the application from IE, mozilla and iPad/Safari browsers. We have also observed that some of the custom images being used in the application UI (residing in a specific folder) are not being cached while others in ARF folder are being cached. Images which are not being cached have been identified as a cause of additional delay in loading of pages.
We are using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.5 .Adf technologies used are ADF faces, we have also used View objects(ADF Business Components) to fetch the data.

This all sounds like you have a problem with application module pooling.
Have you tested your app with am pooling turned off?

here my requirement is when i reach to any page if i refresh or go to other page and come back it should not retain anything there.
session should get clear after every visit to any page or same page.

Displaying Session Owner Attributes on Tabbed User Form

How i can get an attribute from a session's owner inside the form?
For example, I want to display the email address of the admin who logged in and I want to display this on the Tabbed User Form.
I know, that :display.session is a session descriptor, but I can't work out how to display anything other than account ID.

Have a look at the javadocs for the com.waveset.ui.FormUtil class. There's some methods in there for getting user information from the repository based on the context you've got and the user ID you provide.
Something like this might work for you:

Issue uninstalling Essbase

Hello Experts,
One of my customer has an issue uninstalling Essbase.
User lost disk drive, installed a new one; they re-imaged it and have tried to un-install it multiple times and not everything goes away.
Getting "runtime error 48, file not found essexcin.xll, which is percieved to be a permissions issue.
The local IT Tech logged in as Admin, navigated to the C:\hyperion\analyticServices andl there is NO analyticServices folder.
ENVIRONMENT DETAILS
PRODUCT : Essbase 7.1.6.0.00
OS : Microsoft Windows (32-bit) 2003
Any suggestions would be of great help.

Hyperion Smart Cut Session Issue streaming multiple reports at a time using

This is a lengthly post with details, Please review with Patience:
We are trying to integrate Workspace based web Analysis reports within our intranet portal, thru portlets (made from individual workspace smartcut link), so that users can customize their page as needed, Once they login thru intranet, Cookie is set and passed to succeeding smart cut links via secured http headers. This part is fine, but mainly running into issue with streaming several multiple web-analysis reports at a time,+ we are using Iframe to display and stream multiple individual reports on to one page, but unfortunately all Iframes are sharing one session rather than creating individual session, mostly because of limitation of current web analysis system architecture and IE browser behavior with sessions .
Which Hyperion reporting tool does allow to stream multiple reports at a time? ideally we want to create Iframe of each workspace report so that users can customize and pick portlets as needed. To stream multiple reports at a time.
Problem Description: Hypeiron Web Analsysis, Smart cut reports incorrectly rendering images and intermixing dash boards on POV changes upon multiple reports being diplayed at one time thru Iframe's, issue seem to mostly relate to Hyperion using single session rather to multiple session when displaying several web reports at a time.
Steps Needed To Reproduce:
User logs into workspace.
user click on expolore and able to view the report without any issues.
When right on any of the report and select properties.
Select the SmartCut url and paste it in the Internet explorer.
The webanalysis report opens without any issues.
Similarly user copies the smartcut url for a different report and paste the link on a different tab or new window of same browser.
The report on the first tab gets over written of the report of the second tab of the browser.
The issue happens when two different reports and opened on a browser with multiple tabs. The reports get over written.
Oracle development answer:
In the described scenario opening new browser window does not spawn a separate independent browser session. A new browser window is supplied with URL pointing to the same domain, so all browser cookies including the "ORA_WA_SID" (WA session cookie) are shared between the windows. But multiple application instances cannot run in the same browser session simultaneously because of session sharing. This is not actually a defect, but rather a limitation of current system architecture and browser behavior. And there is no way to fix it programmatically on the product side.

Your current arrangement puts most of the session handling and persistence on the client. This forces you to accept whatever the client decides to persist and propogate between browser elements (in this case iframes).
My approach would be to:
Consider coding your portlets to manage the sessions. Manage using a somewhat stateless strategy so that each request to the server requires a login and connect, retrieve, and disconnect. Each Iframe should access a different portlet url (or provide a different query) based on its content.
This way, in theory, you can invalidate the sessions and related cookies and update the various report elements independently.
Is smartview out of the question here?

Drill down issue ON ESSBASE

In Essbase databases we use the “code” as the Member name and the “description” in the Alias, when we click the Alias name in answer for drill down horizontally, it will generate the following error message, maybe the Alias column lead to this problem and do not find the exact value in ESSBASE member name. How to solve this issue?

No Wireless Internet with External Display, Other Issues

Hello,
When I connect an external monitor to my MBA, I lose my connection to the Internet. The wi-fi signal remains strong, but pages will not load (I tried many) and I cannot retrieve email. The connection times out when I try to ping as well. This occurs whether I have the MBA open or closed. The loss of Internet happens immediately when I connect an external display using the supplied dongle, and returns the moment I disconnect it. It is clearly an issue with external displays.
On the advice of an Apple Genius, I also tried disabling bluetooth. I did so, and turned off all my bluetooth devices (Apple keyboard and mouse, iPhone), but the problems persist.
The other trouble I am having is difficulty connecting to a network for the first time in a session. In other words, I was connected all day yesterday, take the MBA home, and return to the office the next day. MBA takes a long time to see the network, then fails to accept the password. If I carry the MBA closer to the wireless router, it finds and connects automatically as I'd saved my password. When I return to my desk, I remain connected with full signal strength. This has happened in two locations, one with an Airport Extreme, the other with a Netopia 802.11g router. When my Macbook Pro is sitting right next to the MBA, it recognizes and connects to the same networks almost instantaneously.
Anyone have any suggestions? Much appreciated.

Just a quick update... I was on the phone with Apple Support on Saturday morning and I thought we were making progress. The basic idea behind the proposed solution was that there was some "Preferences" that were causing the problem. We started over with a clean Preferences folder and tried connecting up the external monitor. At first, this approach was showing progress. The suggestion was to copy over my original Preferences (I had made a backup copy) just a few at a time until we figured out which ones caused the problem. The problem with this approach is that immediately after I got off the phone, the internet started not to work again. So, even with a clean Preferences folder, the internet would quit working after connecting up the external monitor.
So, I'm back to the drawing board. I have since restored my Preferences folder and I don't have my external monitor and internet working at the same time. BTW, I also upgraded to 10.5.3 and it didn't help.
