Displaying a Shape?

I am creating an application that does screen capture of the desktop. I have it working for the most part. I am using the Robot class to capture a 640x480 Rectangle on the screen that is centered using the current position of the mouse.
So that the user can see the area that is being captured I would like to add a visual Rectangle to the screen that just has the stroke outlined? I am at a loss for where or how to do this. It seams like all the examples I see for drawing shapes has you draw them to a JFrame or some other component. Could you guys suggest to me how I may just add a Raw Outlined Rectangle to the screen? Once I know how to do that I am pretty sure I can get it to follow the Mouse.

You can't really paint over the screen in general (I mean you can, but you've got to create a (J)Window and fill it with a screen-captured Image first) but if you're talking about screen capture over a java app, check out this class

    If you understand my problem than please guide me for the same.
    Thank you

  • Displaying all shape data in visio shapes

    Hey guys, Hope to get your help.
    I am developing a visio Value stream map. I have linked my VSM to a database in access. But, my problem is, when I create the VSM, all the data fields are not being displayed and only a two are being displayed in the data graphic for the shape. Also, this
    data graphic is displayed on the right hand side of the shape but I want it to display below the shape. Any suggestions on this problem can be overcome?

    Hi,
    Which Visio and Access version are you using? Based on my tested (Visio 2013& Access 2013), we can link the data to the selected shapes one by one manually and the data will display below the shape. Please try the following steps:
    Click Data tab > External Data group> click Link Data to Shapes> Choose Microsoft Access database> Follow the instructions in the Data Selector wizard> After you click Finish on the last page of the Data Selector wizard, the External Data
    window appears with your imported data shown in a table.
    Select one shape> Find the data in External Data window> Right Click the data > Select Link to Selected Shapes.
    Note: You can link a single row to multiple shapes, but each shape can be linked to only one row.

  • Dvi to video adapter changes shape

    When I plug my DVI to Video adapter into my macbook pro, all of the displays change shape, and no matter what resolution I choose, it won't go back to it's true size.   When I try a DVI to vga adapter, it works fine.

    Try starting the Mac in Safe mode.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
    Hopefully that will result in a usable screen. If it does, go into Displays Preferences and change the resolution to what it was when you had things working properly before. Then restart normally and the resolution selection made under Safe mode should persist through the normal restart.

  • Storing Shape Information IN a Table-Like Structure

    Hi All,

Now I Want To Store All The Exiting Shapes (as they are added on panel ) in some structure say a table, and alongwith it, i also want to store additional information about shape, say its location currently on panel, its present color, etc so that i can use this information later in the program... how do i do implement this ?? Plz Help Me.. It would be great if you include the changes in the source code itself...

    Sure. In your original post, you had a sort of a design. The general idea was right. And then you asked us to implement it. Well, that's the wrong approach. You need to make the sort-of-a-design into a real design. Don't implement anything until you know what you are going to implement.

  • Overlay Images and Shapes on the same canvas

    The example copde below was taken from: http://math.hws.edu/eck/cs124/javanotes3/source/
    Is it possible to update the code so that images (jpg,gif) can be added as well as shapes?
    Any help with this is much appreciated.
        The ShapeDraw applet lets the user add small colored shapes to
        a drawing area and then drag them around.  The shapes are rectangles,
        ovals, and roundrects.  The user adds a shape to the canvas by
        clicking on a button.  The shape is added at the upper left corner
        of the canvas.  The color of the shape is given by the current
        setting of a pop-up menu.  The user can drag the shapes with the
        mouse.  Ordinarily, the shapes maintain a given back-to-front order.
        However, if the user shift-clicks on a shape, that shape will be
        brought to the front.
        A menu can be popped up on a shape (by right-clicking or performing
        some othe platform-dependent action).  This menu allows the user
        to change the size and color of a shape.  It is also possible to
        delete the shape and to bring it to the front.
        This file defines the applet class plus several other classes used
        by the applet, namely:  ShapeCanvas, Shape, RectShape, OvalShape,
        and RoundRectShape.

  • Storing shape information in table

    Hi All,
    I have a Program which displays shape (rectangle,oval,etc) in the panel which is enclosed in a frame.. shape can be dragged and dropped anywhere on panel... also one can delete shape... It would be great if you include the changes in the source code itself...
    thanks
    Here is the source code :

How Do I DO That ??Well, in your programm you have the structure "shapes" where you keep track of each shape object containing each of its induvidual properties. So I don't understand what else you might want.

  • CS6: Measure a shape's area?

    Hi there!
    With Illustrator CS6, is there a way to measure/calculate the enclosed area of a given vector shape?
    Thanks
    Klaus

    It works for me. I think the culprit could be your not saving it as really plain text, just changing the file ending is not enough.
    Or that your actually have a syntax error.
    The script is not mine, but I take liberty and attach my version of the entire script below.
    But be aware that if you have too many and too complex shapes, the script does not calculate correct at all times.

  • Display shows lines, CPU freezes, HDD is fine

    iBook runs normal if it is cold, for an hour or so. Then it freezes and the screen shows up like this:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    The only possible step ending this is shutting off by holding the power button.
    Then, when it is "warm", it works *only for minutes*. Some result again: It freezes (HDD makes one laud click sound) the display looses shape (green lines appear) until, after seconds, only green lines are left.
    Same effect using the iBook in *Firewire target mode* (starting with T held down). Had backed up most of the data, but still it's only a matter of time freezing and showing up only these lines – and the Firewire HDD then is no longer accessible.
    I've replaced the hard drive. No click sounds any more. But the iBook freezes with the same failure when installing a new OS.
    It seems not to be the display alone and not the harddrive. How could I evaluate the problem?

    How wise you are to have backed up everything! It sounds like you are having logic board problems. Enough Dual USB G3 iBooks suffered from the logic board problem that Apple began the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program in January of 2004. (The program is ending, however and has expired for most iBooks that were covered.)
    Do the symptoms look familiar? Does squeezing the case to the left of the trackpad allow you to start up and work for a bit as long as you keep the pressure on it there? If so, you may want to consider trying the shim fix suggested by John Sawyer in the Apple Discussions iBook G3 (Dual USB) Displays Forum:
    [Y]ou can often fix this yourself by removing the iBook's bottom housing, and placing a shim of any sort, about 1mm to 1.5mm thick, onto the raised square on the bottom shield. I use a Scotch mounting square--you can get them in hardware stores and many grocery stores. When you reinstall the bottom case, it will press against this shim, which will press against the graphics chip, and may allow the chip to come into better contact with the logic board.
    John Sawyer
    CJS Macintosh Repair
    Instructions for removing the lower case:
    iFixit.com
    If the shim fix doesn't work (or you're leery of trying it), DT & T Computer Services in Fremont, California offers the cheapest repair I've found. They have a six-month warranty on the repair.
    Once you get it fixed, try never to pick it up by the left front corner alone. The theory is that picking it up by the left front corner alone can contribute to logic board failure when the case flexes, causing the graphics chip to come loose from the logic board. If you're picking it up in your left hand (as I often do mine), pick it up in the center under the trackpad.
    Good luck.

  • Shape in jcombobox

    hi i need help
    how do i display a shape in the jcombobox that is in my jtable
    i don't know what to do and i cannot understand the tutorial on rendering
    a sample code would be very very useful for me
    thanks a lot!!!

    For your JComboBox add icons of different shapes and the DefaultListCellRenderer for the Combobox will take care of the rest.

  • Check if a point lies inside a rectangle

    Hi im making an application that displays a shape on the screen at different locations. The shape is a combination of an ellipse and a line. My problem is when i want to draw the shapes i created a method to check if the point given is contained by any other shape and if it is it should create a new point. However when the .contains(Point) method is run it doesnt reply true or false so my code just goes into an infinite loop and crashes.
    Here is the checkpoint method that loops infintly
    private void setPoint(Point pow) {
              boolean anythingthere = false;
              while (anythingthere==!true) {
                   Rectangle test = list.getBounds();
                   if (test.contains(pow)) {
                        int f = pow.x;
                        f = f+200;
                        int g = pow.y;
                        pow.setLocation(f, g);
                        System.out.println(pow);
                        f = 0;
                   else {
                        if (pow.x+150 > getWidth()) {
                             pow.setLocation(50, pow.y+180);
                        anythingthere = true;
                        i++;
         }And because my shape is a combination of graphics2D shapes i created this method in its class to return the rectangle that bounds the shapepublic Rectangle getBounds() {
         bound = new Rectangle(location.x,location.y,size,size);
         return bound;
    }Thanks for any help you can give im really stumped!!

The problem was to do with scope like one of you said so i moved a few things round and got it working. The problem was when i called the bounds of the rectangle it was returning the bounds using the last changed point which meant that every time i tested the loop the point was inside that bound so it basically looped infinitely. One line moved and it worked perfectly.
    Thanks everyone

  • Screen Failure - Macbook Pro 17 inch (2.16 ghz)

    Hi!
    About 7 months ago the LCD screen on my 17 inch MacBook Pro (2.16ghz) started to do odd things, such as: display odd shapes in the lower 3/4 with lines and colors that changed according to whatever image was currently trying to be displayed. Initially, the screen would correct itself, however this is no longer the case. (I will admit, I lightly tapped the corner of the display, which did help for a time)
    The screen, still the same lower 3/4 of the entire screen, malfunctions after any jostling for an extended amount of time. When stationary for a day or so, the screen will correct itself, and is in fact working at this time, and is also connected to an external monitor.
    Unforunately, this completely defeats the purpose of having a laptop as it cannot be used on the go...
    In my opinion, this does not sound as though the screen is broken, as it is displaying a flawless image right now, but is more than likely a problem with one of the cables running from the logic board to the LCD.
    Last week I replaced the Display Cable and the problem persists exactly as it did before. Are there any other parts I should try replacing that are cheap? I do not have $300+ to replace the entire LCD.
    Here is a picture I took of the problem:

    Thank you!

    did you ever get this fixed?

  • Letters are not turned by copy to Corel Draw

    Hello,
    I made with Visio 2013 a drawing with dimensioning. In some parts of the drawing the text of the dimensioning is turned to 90 grade. If I copy this drawing to Corel Draw, the letters of this text are not turned and they are now one below
    the other not like normal side by side.
    Example like it is now in Corel Draw (normally the letters must be side by side and turned 90 grad):
        T
        e
        x
        t
    Have you an idea what’s to do that this letters are like in the normal drawing also side by side and not one below the other?
    Thank you very much,
    Berni

    Hi,
    Which Corel Draw version did you use?  Please try to convert Visio file to Corel
    Draw file to test.
    Then, please follow the link to re-create a dimensions of shape to test.
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/visio-help/show-size-or-dimensions-of-shapes-in-visio-HA102749190.aspx
    Note:
    If you have Visio Standard Edition, you can display a shape’s dimensions by using fields linked to the shape’s height and width properties.
    If you have Visio Professional Edition, you can use dimension shapes to show sizes. Dimension shapes show the size of the shape they’re glued to, and are updated automatically when you resize the original shape.

  • Please Help : Big problem with applets

    Hi,
    I have a big problem which I have not been able to figure out. The applet I have enclosed works fine on some computers but not on others .
    I am running :
    java version "1.3.1_02"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1_02-b02)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.1_02-b02, mixed mode)
    The applet runs perfectly Ok at university but not on other computers.
    The objective of the applet is to display 3 shapes on the screen once. On the university computer it works, however at home and work the 3 shapes are continuously displayed on the screen ( like they are in some infinite loop). I have been struggling with this for days any help would be greatly appreciated.
    It would help me if some of you could run this applet and let me know if the shapes are displayed once or if the shapes are continuously updated on the screen ( assuming that the applet window is not resized covered over etc. )

    Regards and thanks

    O.K. You will not believe this, but the problem will be solved if you change the following line from:
        setFont(new Font("Serif",Font.BOLD,24));to:
        g.setFont(new Font("Serif",Font.BOLD,24));Now, since I am also learning JAVA, the way I went about solving was to create your applet from scratch, using cut and paste, and running it piece by piece till I ran into the flashing display. Took me a while. I am enclosing my version of the program for your comments.
