Right now, i am tryin to get keyListener to work. But how do I go about creating the character that appears in the maze. And how do i make the character move according to the path and so that it does not walk through the walls?

it wasn't my idea, ..>No, it was my idea. And while I regret that has caused you some flack, I still feel it was the right decision.
The earlier problem was about paint(), and (as per my inference of the real intent) layouts. Then after that problem was discussed, and (in my opinion) resolved, further questions arose on different topics.
- Listening to events.
- Game (logic) design.
I feel that either of those questions is better represented under a different and more specific title. The title of this thread is good for what the OP (original poster) is trying to achieve.
DB - if you are intent on being irritated with anyone over this thread, please save that irritation for me. I also ask you to consider whether any single project should necessarily be discussed under one single thread.
And to the OP. Please figure out how to use the code tags. ..Please.

the built-in keyboard on my macbook is not functioning right, the number keys when pushed display the special characters instead of the numbers,
the caps button doesn't work at all, the letter buttons display capitals when pushed whether the caps button is on or off, the shift keys are also out of whack!!
It seems it somehow got relocated to the "0" button because if you push and hold the zero button down the keyboard seems to operate normally, the number keys display numbers when pushed the letter keys display lower case when pushed but release the zero button and your back in the twilight zone!! Can anybody help me resolve this issue? one more thing im using an external usb keyboard right now and it seems to function properly if that helps any.You would do better in the actual macbook pro forums (this is not).

Chinese and Korean characters not displaying in navigation pane
I have an issue with Chinese and Korean characters not displaying on the tabs in the navigation pane:
I have 2 RoboHelp projects (using RoboHelp 8 with the updates installed) to generate WebHelp, one in Simplified Chinese, the other Korean. The HTML files, .HHC and .HHK were sent out for translations. I have set the appropriate language in the project settings, everything almost works, except for the text on the Contents, Index, and Search tabs. (I'm not using a skin.) I have read in various threads that the lng file should be edited using the RoboHelp interface, and this seems to be the crux of the problem. The characters do not display correctly through the RoboHelp UI.
The computer on which I generate the WebHelp is Windows Server 2003, and I do not have the language packs installed. (And am having problems getting hold of the language packs to install to see if this fixes the problem.)
Aside from installing the language packs, is there anything else I can try to help resolve the problem? (The characters in the content are displaying as expected.)
Any assistance is greatly appreciatedPerhaps something in the Translation Info section of this page might help? (The specifics are for Japanese, but I believe the issue would apply to all double-byte languages).

Japanese and Russian characters are not displayed properly
I have a pdf file which has both russian and Japanese characters in it. Before I install Japanese font pack, the russian characters were displayed properly but for Japanese characters Junk characters are displayed. But once I installed Japanese font pack, Japanese fonts are displayed properly, but for Russian characters are displayed as junk characters. Please let us know if can display both font types simultaneously in a document or is there any work around for this ?
What is your Reader version?
If Reader X or earlier, did you also install the extended font pack? -
MS Notepad unable to display the Chinese characters I type and display them as squares
MS Notepad is unable to display the Chinese characters I type and display them as squares. But when I copy those squares on notepad to Wordpad or MS Word, they display the Chinese characters just fine. I've no idea why those Chinese characters I type can't display properly on notepad. I check the font of the notepad and it's the default. I've another Windows Vista desktop computer which has notepad of the similar setting and display Chinese characters just fine. Both are using Chinese (Simplified) - Microsoft Pinyin New Experience Input Style to input those characters. But I don't understand why my Windows 7 is facing this problem.
Hi,
Notepad is a very simple text editor BUT it will work if you use the SAME language in Windows. Please try:
1. go to control panel, click "Clock, Language, and Region"
2. click "Change location" under the "Region" section
3. go to the "administrative" tab, then click "change system locale...", then select "Chinese".
Regards.

OLE Objects are not displayed properly-overlap characters and empty page
I'm using CR4E 12 Runtime libraries to load and view reports that are created in CR designer v10. Some of the OLE Objects (not all) are not displayed properly.
1) A full page contains terms and conditions as ole object is not at all displayed and just shown as black image.
2) Some data in a table (OLE Object) shown as overlapped characters.
Any body know the reason and is there any workaround to solve this issue?
Thankyou very much for your time.Your problem seems to be with the character encoding you are using for your text. A quick google search for ColdFusion character encoding should turn up the answer. In case you are interested in learning more:

Where do I find an excellent and reliable Vietnamese keyboard for new iPad? A keyboard that displays all the characters and the accent marks so typing can be easily accomplished. The iPad keyboard selection for Vietnamese really only seems to change the Return key to the Vietnamese language. iPad is sold all over the world....my interest is Viet Nam.....the full keyboard.
Thanks.....my Vietnamese expert spouse says this tip will work just fine. I was not aware of the hold down function. Slow typing but accomplishes the objective native on the iPad.
You are correct.....most Apps that I find seem to be based only on a copy/paste method of input.
You solved the problem. -
Display of Chinese Characters in Flash Video
'''Help needed to resolve issue with display of chinese fonts in Firefox.'''
I used to be able to run an html based chinese language learning program (with embedded Flash) in Firefox on my Galaxy Nexus mobile...that is until I installed the latest version of Firefox.
These are the instructions that came with the program to install/run it:
This site is best viewed with Mozilla FireFox 3.x+ (and above) with either Adobe Flash Player 8+ (and above) at a minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768. We also recommend that you enable both JavaScript and Cookies in your chosen browser's settings. Obviously things have moved on since then and the version of Firefox I installed around May 2013 would have been around 22.0
While the above appear to be targeted at computer/tablet platforms the program ran successfully on my mobile and the embedded flash video worked well. The video clips and accompanying audio for each lesson were also accompanied by text that updated as each speaker began conversing. This text could be displayed (by selection) in English, Pinyin or Chinese characters.
With an upgrade to the latest version of Firefox the Chinese characters now no longer display although 'English' fonts do...why? Is this a character encoding issue? Can this be set? What has changed between version 22 or thereabouts that I installed in May 2013 and the current version. Someone must surely know ??? If this cant be fixed, how can I re-install an older version of Firefox on my mobile. As an aside
I was able to download firefox-22.0.bundle, some bundle.parts and .source files along with Firefox Setup 3.6.28.exe but cant install any of these. HELP needed please.Hello,
Can you please confirm that this is the summary of the issue you are facing
#On a site using Flash, and using Firefox 22.0, you were able to view English, Pinyin, Chinese characters on the flash video
#You upgraded Firefox to the latest version from the play store, and also have the latest Flash version, but the same Flash video doesn't display the Chinese characters now
#You are looking for the older version of Firefox for Android so that you can confirm that this issue has something to do with the latest version of Firefox
For the last point, you can download the Android APKs of the older versions from the following links
#[https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/releases/22.0/android/en-US/ Android APK for Firefox 22.0 in English]
#[https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/releases/22.0/android-armv6/en-US/ Android APK for Firefox 22.0 in English for Arm V6]
Please do note that you will need to enable the 'Install from unknown sources' option on the Android device to be able to install this APK. Suggest that you disable the setting after you finish your testing.
Please confirm the details above and we can help you resolve the issue.
Thank you -
Bug with Show Whitespace and tab and space characters in SQL comments
If Preferences > Code Editor > Display > Show Whitespace Characters is checked, and I type the following in SQL Worksheet:
--A[tab]B[space]C
It renders with two spaces between B and C. The first one is a blank space without the light dot character used to signify a space character, and the second space is filled with the dot character. The caret is then blinking before the C instead of after it:
--A[tab]B[space][dot][|]C
Further selection actions and editing in the region produce "corrupted" results. I've tried changing fonts, but there was no change to the behavior. Multiple tabs before the B produce multiple blank spaces immediately after it, and when placed at the end of the line the caret is then shown another space to the left of the C:
--A[tab][tab]B[space][space][|][dot]C
If I turn off Show Whitespace Characters the rendering immediately corrects, and caret placement, selection action, and editing behaviors all work as expected.
This is observed on OS X with both the Mac OS X and Oracle/Fusion Blue look and feels.

Can I put Chinese and English characters in the same dynamic text box?
I'm translating a game into several different languages, one of which is Chinese. I've noticed that in a dynamic text box where English characters are included also, they aren't displayed when the .swf is exported. The font is embedded in the document with all characters selected. It seems like whatever language-character is first displayed in the text box, the other language cannot be. For instance, if there are Chinese characters first, then English, the English will not display, and vice-versa. Any work around on this? I am using Flash CS5 and Actionscript 2.0. Thanks!
Kglad - I'm not sure I follow your instructions for the fix. I assume you want me to set the _visible property to false via Actionscript ( textInvisible._visible = false; ). What is the purpose of this second text field - does it need any specific content in it to function? It doesn't seem to work to fix the problem but maybe I'm misunderstanding.

Display non-english characters
Hi,
How can i display Japanese, Chinese characters in a java application or applet? do i need some special tools?
Thanks,
eileenSince Java supports unicode you don't need special
tools only a font which is able to display japanese or
Chinese charaters. For Windows:
http://www.hclrss.demon.co.uk/unicode/fonts.html
You can display a unicode char with /uXXXX have a look
at
http://www.unicode.org/charts/
Or you already got a file with unicode characters....
have funThanks for your help.
But how can i put something down by checking that Unicode table from time to time? That's almost impossible...
suppose i've put some Japanese characters into a file, what type of file should i save it as? save it as a html file or something else?
and if i want the context of a label to be "xxxxx"(in Chinese), what should i do? JLabel label = new JLabel("???") how can i put some chinese characters to replace "???" ?
and how can i input Japanese/chinese characters under Mandrake?
Thank you very much,

SQL Loader and foreign characters in the data file problem
Hello,
I have run into an issue which I can't find an answer for. When I run SQL Loader, one of my control files is used to get file content (LOBFILE) and one of the fields in the data file has a path to that file. The control file looks like:
LOAD DATA
INFILE 'PLACE_HOLDER.dat'
INTO TABLE iceberg.rpt_document_core APPEND
FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
doc_core_id "iceberg.seq_rpt_document_core.nextval",
-- created_date POSITION(1) date "yyyy-mm-dd:hh24:mi:ss",
created_date date "yyyy-mm-dd:hh24:mi:ss",
document_size,
hash,
body_format,
is_generic_doc,
is_legacy_doc,
external_filename FILLER char(275) ENCLOSED by '"',
body LOBFILE(external_filename) terminated by EOF
A sample data file looks like:
0,2012-10-22:10:09:35,21,BB51344DD2127002118E286A197ECD4A,text,N,N,"E:\tmp\misc_files\index_testers\foreign\شیمیایی.txt"
0,2012-10-22:10:09:35,17,CF85BE76B1E20704180534E19D363CF8,text,N,N,"E:\tmp\misc_files\index_testers\foreign\ลอบวางระเบิด.txt"
0,2012-10-22:10:09:35,23552,47DB382558D69F170227AA18179FD0F0,binary,N,N,"E:\tmp\misc_files\index_testers\foreign\leesburgis_á_ñ_é_í_ó_ú_¿_¡_ü_99.doc"
0,2012-10-22:10:09:35,17,83FCA0377445B60CE422DE8994900A79,binary,N,N,"E:\tmp\misc_files\index_testers\foreign\làm thế nào bạn làm ngày hôm nay"
The problem is that whan I run this, SQL Loader throws an error that it can't find the file. It appears that it can't interpret the foreign characters in a way that allows it to find that path. I have tried adding a CHARACTERSET (using AL32UTF8 or UTF8) value in the control file but that only has some success with Western languages, not the ones listed above. Also, there is no set of defined languages that could be found in the data file. It essentaially could be any language.
Does anyone know if there is a way to somehow get SQL Loader to "understand" the file system paths when a folder and/or file name could be in some other langauge?
Thanks for any thoughts - PeterThanks for the reply Harry. If I try to open the file in various text editors like Wordpad, Notepad, GVIM, andTextpad, they all display the foreign characters differently. Only Notepad comes close to displaying the characters properly. I have a C# app that will read the file and display the contents and it renders it fine. If you look at the directory of files in Windows Explorer, they all are displayed properly. So it seems things like .Net and Windows have some mechanism to understand the characters in order to render them properly. Other applications, again like Wordpad, do not know how to render them properly. It would seem that whatever SQL Loader is using to "read" the data files also is not rendering the characters properly which prevents it from finding the directory path to the file. If I add "CHARACTERSET AL32UTF8" in the control file, all is fine when dealing with Western langauges (ex, German, Spanish) but not for the Eastern languages (ex. Thai, Chinese). So .... telling SQL Loader to use a characterset seems to work, but not in all cases. The AL32UTF8 is the characterset that the Oracle database was created with. I have not had any luck if I try to set the CHARACTERSET to whatever the Thai character set is, for example. There problem there though is that even if that did work, I can't target specific lagauages because the data could come from anywhere. It's like I need some sort of global "super set" characterset to use. It seems like the CHARACTERSET is the right track to follow but I am not sure, and even if it is, is there a way to handle all languages.
Thanks - Peter -
After I disconnect from the cinema display and than a few minutes later open up the macbook without the display connected, things are fine. But re-connecting to the display, all the screens are moved and/or changed in size. Anybody any ideas ?
I'm currently sitting in my office using my MBP and looking at a 24" Samsung display. At home I replaced my 4 year old iMac with a 2 year old 13" MBP which is connected to a similar display. That should be tell you all you need to know!

Hello,
Is it possible the current Mac Mini 2.7 Ghz i7 with two full-resolution displays and Thunderbolt operate?
Thanxs for your answers.
GeraldOn Second thoughts...
I don't really know how well Logic Express 7 performs on the Mac Mini because I have not yet had the chance to experience the two together. Don't let that put you off the idea though! From my understanding of the system requirements printed on the Logic Express homepage, it states that a G4 or faster system is required, however Apple personally recommend a Dual G4 or G5 is recommended alongside a minimum of 512MB of Ram. This Does mean that Logic Express will run on the Mac Mini but you will most probably find it lags when moving samples in real time and rendering them onto your hard drive. If you really want to enjoy making "serious" music on the Mac then you really need to be looking at the iMac G5 or the iMac Core Duo (Intel) purely for your tempers sake. As for an Intel Mac Mini, there is no indication as to when we will be seeing one on the market and therefore you may find yourself on the fence between keeping your fixed budget and holding on a little or jumping in and getting on the right road to a digital musical life - mac style.
Maybe this will inspire your decision:
