Displaying images in an application frame
I'm trying to display a .gif in a frame. The first challenge is to turn the file(local) into an Image class. I don't know how to do that. Second is taking that Image and using Graphics to draw it. Alas, made necessary are "ImageObserver", "ImagerConsumer", "ImageProducer" and other such nonsensical classes. I've spent quite some time trying to figure this out
I feel bad wasting a post on something like this, but it seems to me like a valid question. It even says in the O'Reilly's Java in a Nutshell that images in Java are confusing. If there are links to good tutorials, or someone could post code for a simple Frame with a Graphics object that displays a .gif image from the same directory as the class I would appreciate it greatly.
I'm not sure why "Java in a nutshell" would say it's complex or confusing. But then that's the only O'Reilly book I've bought and didn't like. I prefer Bruce Eckel's "Thinking In Java"
In any case, let's look at images:
First, reference the "How to use Images" sectin of the Java Tutorial at http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/misc/icon.html
The way I'd do it is to construct an ImageIcon class using
public ImageIcon(String filename)
Now, ImageIcon and Image are not derived from Component, so you can't put them into a Frame. BUT, you can put a JLable into a JFrame and the JLable can have an image. So you construct a new JLable like this:
ImageIcon myIcon = new ImageIcon("/images/duke.gif")
JLabel myLabel = new JLabel(myIcon);
Then put myLabel into your JFrame
myJFrame.getContentPane().add(myLabel);
(or put it in whatever layout manager and panel you are using within yoru JFrame)
That should do it. If you're going to be putting your code into a jar file then there is an additional bit of code that needs to be added. If you search for "Images jar" you'll find lots of discussion. Or you could go to my site at www.brouelette.com and look at the code for "One Hour Wumpus" to see the ImageLoader that I use that works in or out of a jar file.
Good luck.

How to upload and display image using bsp application
hi
I just wants to know that
1- how to upload image from BSP page with attachment into sap server .?
2-how to display image in to BSP page(webpage).
thanksHello Gupta Prashant,
Just to upload and display an image, import image in MIME repository. Not only still images but also flash files can also be uploaded in the MIME repository. Once you import the image in it, use normal html code for image call;
<img src = "file.jpg/gif" width= height=>
Besides it, if your requirement is to store the image in the database and fetch it based on specified field-name, then you have to go for BLOBs i.e Binary Large Object, using this you can also store images, videos, pdfs, applications in the database.
MBLOB - Medium BLOBs store videos and pdfs,
LBLOB - Large BLOBs store movie files and applications.
You have got 2 ways to use it; some databases store BLOB objects into themselves and some store the path of the BLOB object maintained on the FTP server.
You can also implement it in ABAP;
read the following link and practice the tutorial;
[ Use of MIME Types|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_45b/helpdata/en/f1/b4a6c4df3911d18e080000e8a48612/content.htm]
also check this
[TYPES - LOB HANDLE|http://help.sap.com/abapdocu/en/ABAPTYPES_LOB_HANDLE.htm]
And looking at your question, in order to upload an image, you can make use of FILEUPLOAD tag provided by HTMLB.
Step 1: FILEUPLOAD provides a browse button to choose desired image file.
Step 2: Store that image in database using BLOBs.
Step 3: Retrieve the image using normal select query and display it on the screen.
Hope it helps you,

ThomasWhat version of Oracle do you use? What is the datatype of the column where images are stored? What are you using to read and display the images on web applications? Do you get any errors?

Hello!
Sorry, I'm a beginner in APEX and have some problems with displaying images in my application. I have read the same topic but unfortunately didnt find the solution.

Hello! Welcome to the forum: please read the FAQ and forum sticky threads (if you haven't done so already), and update your forum profile with a real handle instead of "1009316".
When you have a problem you'll get a faster, more effective response by including as much relevant information as possible upfront. This should include:
<li>Full APEX version
<li>Full DB/version/edition/host OS
<li>Web server architecture (EPG, OHS or APEX listener/host OS)
<li>Browser(s) and version(s) used
<li>Theme
<li>Template(s)
<li>Region/item type(s) (making particular distinction as to whether a "report" is a standard report, an interactive report, or in fact an "updateable report" (i.e. a tabular form)
With APEX we're also fortunate to have a great resource in apex.oracle.com where we can reproduce and share problems. Reproducing things there is the best way to troubleshoot most issues, especially those relating to layout and visual formatting. If you expect a detailed answer then it's appropriate for you to take on a significant part of the effort by getting as far as possible with an example of the problem on apex.oracle.com before asking for assistance with specific issues, which we can then see at first hand.

Image UI element is not displayed in Abap webdynpro application
Hi Experts,
I need your advice on below issue.
I have created new ABAP Webdynpro application just to
display employee photo.
When loading the application, I generated a dynamic URL for
a image in webdynpro application path in cache to map to Image UI Element. It
is working well in DEV and QA environment. But it is not displaying when loaded
in PRD system.
Please suggest where to check the cache properties in system
in order to resolve this issue.
The user can access the application path, is there any chance for security issue in the same path?
I suspect the URL is cleared before user access it, can it be controlled via any config?
Looking forward for your valuable inputs.
Thanks,
SwethaHI Swetha,
Maybe the image is not present in MIME repository for the PRD system.
Please check.

Nothing works to close this window except mouse/clicking... I don't like it being in the background when I'm working in other apps.
I'm not a Mac user, so I don't have a way to check this myself, but what's the behavior when you do disable it via the setting, then open an image? Does the image just open a window exactly the size of the displayed image? I assume this is different than what you're looking to see. Maybe a couple of screenshots would help others reading this thread (e.g., Adobe folks) to understand how you'd prefer it to work.
I think the intent is to make the default Photoshop behavior the same on a Mac as on a PC, and on a PC there's no way to eliminate the Application Frame at all.

Hi all,
i'm new to the forum and i'll be granted if you kind gentlemen/women could use some advices for my gui home application.
My purpose is to display a static image in a container (i'd prefer to use javax.swing objects, but if you think that java.awt is more suitable for my app, please feel free to tell me about...). I used a modified code from one of the Java Tutorial's examples, tht actually is an applet and displays images as it is using the paint() method. I just can't realize how to set the GraphicContext in a JFrame or a JPanel to contain the image to display, without using applets. Following part of the code I use (a JButton will fire JApplet start, JApplet is another class file called Apple.java):
class DMToolz extends JFrame {
private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
private JPanel jContentPane = null;
private JButton jButton = null;
private JComboBox jComboBox = null;
private JMenuItem jMenuItem = null;
private JMenuBar jJMenuBar = null;
private JMenu jMenu = null;
private JMenu jMenu1 = null;
public int w=10, h=10;
public String filename;
* @throws HeadlessException
public DMToolz() throws HeadlessException {
// TODO Auto-generated constructor stub
super();
initialize();
public DMToolz(String arg0) throws HeadlessException {
super(arg0);
// TODO Auto-generated constructor stub
initialize();
* This method initializes jButton
* @return javax.swing.JButton
private JButton getJButton() {
if (jButton == null) {
jButton = new JButton();
jButton.setBounds(new Rectangle(723, 505, 103, 38));
jButton.setText("UrcaMado'");
jButton.addActionListener(new java.awt.event.ActionListener() {
public void actionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent e) {
/**************SCRIVERE QUI IL NOME DEL FILE CON L'IMMAGINE DA CARICARE*******************/
filename = "reference table player2.gif";
java.net.URL imgURL = DMToolz.class.getResource("images/"+filename);
BufferedImage img = null;
try {
img = ImageIO.read(imgURL);
w = img.getWidth();
h = img.getHeight();
System.out.println("*DM* Immagine letta - W:"+w+" H:"+h);
} catch (Exception ex) {System.out.println("*DM* Immagine non letta");}
JApplet a = new Apple();
a.setName(filename);
JFrame f = new JFrame ("UrcaBBestia!");
f.addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter() {
public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e) {System.exit(0);}
f.getContentPane().add(a);
f.setPreferredSize( new Dimension(w,h+30) );//30 (circa) l'altezza della barra del titolo del frame
f.pack();
f.setVisible(true);
return jButton;
public class Apple extends JApplet {
private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
final static Color bg = Color.white;
final static Color fg = Color.black;
final static Color red = Color.red;
final static Color white = Color.white;
public void init() {
//Initialize drawing colors
setBackground(bg);
setForeground(fg);
public void paint(Graphics g) {
Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D) g;
g2.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_ANTIALIASING, RenderingHints.VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON);
try {
String filename = this.getName(); //uso il nome dell'applet come riferimento al nome del file da caricare
java.net.URL imgURL = DMToolz.class.getResource("images/"+filename);
BufferedImage img = ImageIO.read(imgURL);
if (img.equals(null)) {System.out.println("IMG null!");System.exit(0);}
System.out.println("IMG letta");
int w = img.getWidth();
int h = img.getHeight();
resize(w,h);
g2.drawImage(img,
0,0,Color.LIGHT_GRAY,
null);// no ImageObserver
} catch (Exception ex) {ex.printStackTrace();
System.out.println("Immagine non letta.");System.exit(0);}
}//end classPlease never mind about some italian text, used as reminder....
Thanks in advance.Read the Swing tutorial on "How to Use Labels" or "How to Use Icons" for working examples:
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/TOC.html
By the way you should never override the paint() method. Custom painting (not required in this case) is done by overriding the paintComponent(...) method in Swing. Overriding paint() is an old AWT trick. -
Bug Report: Enabling Application Frame forces all open documents into tabs
Steps to reproduce the problem:
Set Preferences -> Interface -> "Open Documents as Tabs" to OFF
Open a bunch of documents. Observe that they are separate floating windows, which is good
Choose Window -> "Application Frame" which will turn the default Application Frame off
Choose Window -> "Application Frame" which will re-enable the Application Frame and force all of your open docs into tabs, which is undesired!
