Displaying JSP code

Hey All!!!
I am creating a JSP page which contains JSP code. However, inside this page, I also want to display the JSP code. How can I do this, without my engine running the code?
I have thought of using the page directive (text/plain), but this goes for the entire page, and I only want a portion to be eliminated. Any ideas?
Thanks!!!!
Aaron

That definately makes sense. HOwever, using an absolute path just generated more errors.
In thinking that it may have a hard time reading itself (I wasn't sure if the servlet would lock the file as it's displaying it on the page). So, I created a new file (source.jsp), and inserted the previous code. Inside the filereader argument, I placed (test1.jsp), so that it may read the other file, and display the source.
However, when accessing source.jsp.... I'm getting a 404 file not found (source.jsp). Even though I have test1.jsp in the argument. It seems I may be missing something. Here is what I have:
<html>
<title>Source for test.jsp</title>
<head>
<%@ page import = "java.io.*"%>
</head>
<body>
<p><p>Generated with the Source code:
<hr>
<%BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("examples\test1.jsp"));
String line = "";%>
<pre>
<%while((line = in.readLine()) != null){%><%= line %><%}%>
</pre>
</body>
</html>

  • Getting a JFrame to display  from a JSP, remaining JSP code waits for frame

    Hello,
    I'm new to Java and just started using JSPs. My objective is to call a display window (from a JSP) that shows the user a list of project selections. Once the user has made their selections and clicked a Submit button, the display class captures the selected projects to the request object as an attribute and then closes the window. The next command in the jsp then forwards the request attribute to a controller. I'm having trouble getting the display window to show-the JSP seems to hang and then timeout. Is there code I'm missing to get the JSP to stop processing while it waits for the choices to be made in the JFrame?
    Below is the JSP code and the class I'm calling. I'm seeing all my debug System.out statements but no JFrame pops up. In the JFrame class, the line f.addWindowListener(... does the capture of user selections to the request attribute.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

    Hmm, I was trying to avoid writing an applet. Seems my only other option then is to write a JSP that returns a javascript menu populated by options from a database call. Then I'd have the user click submit to send the options to another JSP that simply sets the request attribute and forwards to the controller. Will this be a sound alternative?

  • How to disable Format Warning when displaying JSP in Excel under MS-Office

    We have an application running in WebSphere 6.0 container, the application displays jsp data in Excel, it had no problem before MS-Office 2007 was install. However, after MS-Office 2007 is used, following format warning dialog box is always displayed:
    The file you are trying to open, ’Requests[1].xls’, is in a different format than specified by the file extension.
    Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file.
    The user has to click the "Yes" button before the Excel report can be successfully displayed. This is not acceptable by our production users, and I need your helps to get rid of this dialog box.
    The application uses struts. The Action class retrieves data from database and the data is forward to the result jsp
    in an data object set in an attribute of the session's Request object. The Action class also set the display info, such as the contentType,etc., in session's Response object (please see below for details).
    The result jsp retrieves data from the data object and display in Excel according to the display info provided in the
    session response object.
    To eliminate any possible problem that may be caused by the data, I have simplified the result jsp by removing original
    codes (such as data object forwarded from Action, and Tag Library, etc.), and just hardcoded few data for displaying in Excel, however, the same format warning box still always shows up.
    My Action class set display info as below:
    response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
    response.setHeader("Expires", "0");
    response.setHeader("Cache-Control","must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0");
    response.setHeader("Pragma", "public");
    response.setHeader("content-disposition","attachment; filename=Requests.xls");
    My simplified result jsp is listed below:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
    <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/struts-html.tld" prefix="html" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/struts-bean.tld" prefix="bean" %>
    <!-- <%@ taglib prefix='c' uri='http://java.sun.com/jstl/core_rt'%> -->
    <TITLE></TITLE>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <TABLE border="1">
         <TBODY>
         <TR>
         <td><p align='left'>myData1</p></td>
         <td><p align='left'>myData2</p></td>
         <td><p align='left'>myData3</p></td>
         <td><p align='left'>myData4</p></td>
         </TR>
         </TBODY>
    </TABLE>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    So, I reduced the result jsp to contain only few hardcoded data, but the format warning always shows up. Is it caused by inconsistency between the MS-Office 2007 browser and the JSP engine in WebSphere 6.0 Web container? Need your help to resolve this problem.
    Thanks in advance.

    That's the caveat of fooling your webbrowser and Excel with a plain HTML page along an Excel content-type and Excel extension.
    Don't do that. That's plain stupid. Provide a real binary Excel file. You can create one using Apache POI HSSF or Andy Khan's JExcelAPI. Alternatively -and more recommended in case of large reports-, just use the CSV format. It's easy to create a CSV file in 20 lines of code and Excel perfectly understands CSV formats. Don't forget to change content-type to CSV.

  • How to execute again the JSP codes

    Dear Experts,
    I am having trouble to execute again the JSP codes in my abc.jsp page. The sequence of the codes are:
    [ JSP codes ]
    [ HTML codes]
    My JSP file is selecting from DB2 and display the results on the same page. The selecting is depending to the selection in the combo box and included the selection into the SQL statement.
    The problem is when I change the selection at the combo box, how can I refresh the page and fill in with the new results from database by selecting with the new keyword.

    You will have to do an onChange handler for the select box, that simply submits the form, and the action would be the current page.

    2) I'm looking at how you called stuff, and you're trying to call the jsp file as an image? That jsp isn't the source of the image, just a page linking to an image. I think if you really want to do things that way you're going to need to just include that jsp within the jsp you're calling it from (or you can do it the easy way, and if you have the information to get the path of the image you want, you could simply call the image from the first jsp you posted)This is incorrect.
    There are two JSPs. The second when called will (if it worked) return the source of an image as stored in the database.even when called with <img src=xx.jsp>??
    Yes.
    If any of what I say next seems obvious or otherwise negative I apologize, just trying to explain and I don't know what you know vs what you don't.
    The link in the src is just a URL not a filetype. So just because it ends with JSP does not mean it has to return HTML. The content type is determined by the browser using the Content-Type header returned by the server in the HTTP response. In this case the header is set to be a jpeg so that's what the browser will attempt to interpret the content part of the response as.
    So in fact one is not limited to just HTML or images but whatever content type you would like to return (that the browser can understand anyway). This could be HTML or it could be an image of some type or it could be a PDF or it could be an Excel spreadsheet. All you have to do in the JSP is set the header appropriately and then send content that is actually in that format.
    This does not just apply to JSP by the way but all other web programming languages. You can do similar things to produce the same results in PHP, Perl, ASP etc.
    The only JSP/Servlet complication is whether or not doing this in a JSP is a "good" idea but I am not an expert enough at that to make a definitive statement. Mostly though JDBC in a JSP is a no-no.

  • I can't use have JSP code in jsp:forward ?

    when i try to use
    <jsp:forward page="product.jsp?id=<% out.print(bid.getItemID()); %>&action=bidfail" />it dont seem to have any id value?
    i will get something like
    /AuctionProject/product2.jsp?id=<% out.print(bid.getItemID()); %>&action=bidfailhow can i have some jsp code inside the forward url? like in this case i need a item ID

    You can use run time expressions in jsp:forward, but you shouldn't use a scriptlet with out.print(...). Instead use an expression. An expression looks like <%= value to display %> instead of <% out.print(value to display) %>
    <jsp:forward page="product.jsp?id=<%= bid.getItemID() %>&action=bidfail" />See the JSP Syntax Reference at: [http://java.sun.com/products/jsp/syntax/2.0/syntaxref20.html |http://java.sun.com/products/jsp/syntax/2.0/syntaxref20.html]

  • Data value changes not always reflected in .jsp code

    For example, I can change the data value of an output text field, run the project and find that the new value is not always what shows up. I get the old value instead. I have to then go into the .jsp code and modify the value= property to get the new text to display. The new value, however, was being displayed in the designer window. I can also change a form name or some other component ID and the .jsp code may still contain references to the old name as well as the new name. This causes runtime exceptions. I am new to Java programming . Anyone know what I am doing wrong? I am using the 30-day eval version of Creator. I have tried the referesh, build only , etc., but still run into problems.

    Hi,
    Could you please list some steps in case there's a bug
    and include the jsp source.
    Also, I suggest you to get the latest updates.

  • How JSP codes residing in js function works

    Hi,
    I would like to check with you how JSP codes residing in js function works.
    How can I get the 2nd select stmt executed based on the values retrieve from 1st select statement and the conditions pass in to this js function
    How can I get the select statement to execute only when a condition is met.
    The following is the codes. It is not executing the 2nd select statement. when I didnt put in the 2nd select stmt, i execute those codes in that portion
    script
    ====
    function test(obj, obj2) {
    <%
    sql_query = "SELECT a1, a2 , a3, a4, a5 "+
    " FROM table_a ";
    try {
    rset = db.execSQL(sql_query);
    catch(SQLException e){
    System.err.println ("Error in query " +e);
    %>
    var po_ln_fnd = false
    <% while (rset.next()) {
    j_a1 = rset.getString("a1");
    j_a2 = rset.getString("a2");
    j_a3 = rset.getString("a3");
    %>
    if ((eval(obj2.value)== '<%=j_a1%>')) {
    if ((obj.value == '<%=j_a2%>') ) {
    <% j_a4 = rset.getString("a4");
    j_a5 = rset.getString("a5");
    sql_query = "SELECT b2, b3, b4 "+
    " FROM table_b "+
    " WHERE b1 = '"+j_a3+"' ";
    try {
    rset = db.execSQL(sql_query);
    catch (SQLException e) {
    System.err.println("Error in query " +e);
    while (rset.next()) {
    String j_b2 = rset.getString("j_b2");
    String j_b3 = rset.getString("j_b3");
    String j_b4 = rset.getString("j_b4");
    %>
    <%}>
    }

    what is the other alternative to produce the same results: (retrieve the data based on the value entered on screen, upon onChange, it will chk whether the condition met, if met, will retrieve data from another table and display on the screen - all this is done without the submit button being pressed)

  • Is there a way of embedding JSP code in VBScript?

    I am launching MS Excel using VBScript in the JSP Page. I want to populate the spread sheet with the values coming from a Java Bean. I am not sure how I can embed JSP code in VBScript.
    Thanks

    I tried doing that with Javascript but it gives me error..
    here is the code I was testing..
    <script language="JavaScript">
    function test(){
    var name = <%=(bean.getName())%>;
    alert(name);
    </script>
    <input type="button" name="Button" value="test" onClick=javascript:test()>
    Error : Object Expected
    If I do a similar thing with VBScript, it doesnt work either.
    here is the test code for VBScript
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="VBScript">
    sub button1_onclick()
         dim name = <%=(bean.getName())%>
    ' Launch Excel
    dim app
    set app = createobject("Excel.Application")
    ' Make it visible
    app.Visible = true
    set rng2 = wb.Activesheet.Range("A1").Resize(2,2)
    rng2.value = name
    ' Give the user control of Excel
    app.UserControl = true
    end sub
    </SCRIPT>

  • How to get OutputStream/Writer for a file in a JSP code?

    In a JSP code as shown below, how could we get an OutputStream to write a file that resides on the server file system?
    I'm stuck after five hours struggle!
    <%
    /* simple experimental JSP program */
    ...  // get request data
    Properties pt = new Properties();
    Class clas = getClass();
    InputStream is = clas.getResourceAsStream("/users.properties");
    pt.load(is);
    String userNameDB = pt.getProperty("user");
    String passwordDB = pt.getProperty("password");
    long lastLogonDB = Long.parseLong(pt.getProperty("lastLogon"));
        // so far so good ...
    if (userName.equals(userNameDB) && password.equals(passwordDB)){
      if (lastLogonForm > lastLogonDB) {
        session.setAttribute("User", userName); //Saves user name string in the session object
        pt.setProperty("lastLogon", lastLogon);
        pt.setProperty("user", userNameDB);
        pt.setProperty("password", passwordDB);
        ...  // how to write back the new data to the users.properties file?
    %>

    I have found a solution:
    String path = application.getRealPath("/users.properties");
    InputStream is = new FileInputStream(path);
    is.close();
    OutputStream os = new FileOutputStream(path);
    os.close();getResourceAsStream() is oddly incompatible with the code using the getRealPath(). So don't use it.
