Displaying the value of an array in swing? Almost like a chess baord

Hi all.
After a long time from coding I thought I'd have a bash.
Here's a short outline of what I'm trying code.
I have a robot, a simple robot, does nothing but move around, pick up objects and drop them.
This robot lives in a world that is a square 1000x1000 for example.
The world is populated with objects, the robot goes around, if the robot is not holding an object and comes across one it will pick it up.
Then the robot moves around and if it comes across another object of the same type it will then drop the object.
These are the class names that I've created, the names give it away what they are for:
RobotProject (main class, not much in here apart from the starting parameters, such as starting position, how big the world is, number of objects in the world etc)
SandBox (is the class that the world object will be created from)
Robot (is the class the robot will be created from, I did it this way just in case I wanted more then one robot in the world)
GridCheck (this is a static class as it's only a set of instructions to carry out depending where in the world it the robot is and what is around it)
Movement (this class is not built yet, but all it does is check the current location of the robot, give options of where to move, then randomly picks a move)
Gui (this is going to be used to display the world, not built yet)
The object I create of SandBox is called world1, the only thing need to be known about this world is that it has an array, this array is what keeps track of each of the grid in the world and there state.
So let?s imagine a chess board, top left grid is 0 going from left to right/ top to bottom we end up with 63 (or 64 arrays).
What would be the best way to display this "chess board"?
At the moment I have a method in the SandBox class that will return all the grids states and a string.
This was put in there "just in case" but I think this is the wrong way to go.
Really what I'm after is a few pointers to make this work, maybe my way of doing this is incorrect?
I know I've been thinking that maybe I should have created an array of objects (SandBox, but with only an int rather than the array) rather than an object with an array var.
Anyways, I hope that makes sense, if not feel free to "bust my chops"
If you would like to see some of the mode feel free to ask, I'm not a student or anything, to be frank the last time I coded anything was over 4 years ago, so as you can guess the code is simply.

I agree with BDLH that Swing would work well here. There are a million and one way to create your "grid" one option include using a 2D grid of JLabels, another being a single JPanel with a grid BufferedImage as its background image (which is probably how I'd do it), etc... which one to choose will depend on the rest of the program, so it may be very early to say. Perhaps at this point you just want to create an interface of invariant behaviors to represent the Grid and thus allowing you flexibility with its implementation.

If you don't want an EEM policy, then don't use any of the EEM constructs. Instead, all you need is this:

Displaying the value of an variable on the stage

I have managed to display the values contained in string variables on stage, and I am happy with that, however when I wish to display the value of an int and convert it to a string as one is supposed to do the output to the stage just calls it [class int] and does not give its value. any suggestions?
My rogram contains a stage at frame 1 which displays a word. The user must input a word. Frame 30 then displays the word which was displayed and the word input by the user. That all works fine. But the value of the variable NumberRight, which has been assigned to that variable will only display as [class int] without showing its value. (even though I have converet it to a string using the .to string function you see below).
My code is as follows;

Yes I have managed to overcome that problem it was some code on the first frame, please excuse, however, now, is there any way to remove the [class int] bit from the displays, I wish to have the results as a clear copy of the results so that they can be printed out, without [class int] all over the place?

Hi Ned thanks for that. Yes I had accidently created blank spaces in the String() argument. (wanted to check if there was a subsequent difference in display and forgot to return them to normal ...Sorted )
Your next suggestion has eliminated the [class int] but I get a value now of 0.
My code on the first frame for a correct response for example is;

On the first frame when the user say hits the Return key my code assigns the value of +1 to the variable; eg

many years ago I wrote this same program in Authorware using similar code. I am trying to re write it in FlashCS5 using ActionScript 3 and It take days to solve small problems. I notice also that If for example the user of the program makes an error and I record the error as NumberRight =NumberRight -1 the program records it as Total Correct = NaN .
I gave up on this a few months back but I am trying again. I think there must be a better way to do this. Variables do not seem to add up or subtract for me at present. no doubt its me thats got it wrong.

The JSTL forEach tag.
In fact if all you want to do is iterate over the comma separated list, the forEach tag supports that without having to use the split function.

How to display the values stored in the database in the combobox on load?

I am develping one application where in
I wanted to display the values in the combobox which I am taking from the database and in the same form passing that value in same form after selecting it,My program is running fine for the first time but next time it is giving me NullPointerException.

How to display the values in JSpinner in format day:HH:mm

Hi All,
I want to know how can I display the values inside a JSpinner in the format day:HH:mm. Here the value of 'day' can be anything say from 0 to 365 and HH stand for hour and mm stands for minutes.
I tried to implement it using
mSpinner.setEditor(new JSpinner.DateEditor(mSpinner, "DD:HH:mm"));
but here the values of day was not proper. Please let me know if there is any standard format or how can I configure my own editor.

It worked well for 112 as 112 comes under April month.. i.e. it will work properly for the range 91 to 120 as the current month is April and if we start counting from january 01 then for April month , the number of day will fall under range 91 to 120.
See, it will allow you to change the values beyond the limit (i.e. less than 91 or more than 120) but the real problem is that I used this spinner in the table and when I will try to save the value of spinner , then if the value of day in beyond the limit 91 to 120 then it will automatically changing in the range between 91 to 120.

How to add a column to a list created with the Dynamic List Wizard to display the values of the fiel

We have 2 tables: clients_cli (id_cli, name_cli, tel_cli, and several more fields) and cases_cas (id_cas, idcli_cas, court_cas, and a lot of other fields).
Clients may have many cases, so table cases_cas have a foreign key named idcli_cas, just to determine which case belongs to which client.
We designed the lists of the two tables with the Dynamic List Wizard and the corresponding forms with Dynamic Form Wizard.
These two forms are linked with the Convert Dynamic List and Form Wizards, which added a button to clients list named "add case".
We add a client and then the system returns to the clients list displaying all clients, we look for the new client just added and then press "add case", which opens the Dynamic Form for cases, enter all case details and everything processes ok.
However, when we view the cases list it display all the details of the case, including the column and values for the foreign key idcli_cas. As you can image, it is quite difficult for a human to remember the clients ids.
So, in the cases list we added a another column, named it Name, to display the names of the clients along with cases details. We also created another recordset rsCli, selected the clients_cli table, displaying all columns, set filter id_cli = Form Variable = idcli_cas then press the Test button and everything displays perfect. Press ok.
Then, we position the cursor inside the corresponding cell of the new Name column, go to Bindings, click on name_cli and then click on insert. The dynamic field is inserted into the table cell as expected, Save the page, and test in browser.
The browser call the cases list but fails to display the values of the Name column. The Name column is simply empty.
This issue creates a huge problem that makes our application too difficult to use.
What are we doing wrong?

1.     Start transaction PM01, Create Infotype, by entering the transaction code.
You access the Create Infotype screen.
2.     Choose List Screen.
3.     In the Infotype no. field, enter the four-digit number of the infotype you want to create.
When you specify the infotype number, please remember to enter any leading zeros.
4.     In the Screen Number field, enter the screen number of the list screen you want to enhance.
5.     Choose Create.
The Dictionary: Initial screen appears:
6.     Create the list screen structure.
7.     Choose Activate.
8.     Return to the Enhance List Screen in the Enhance Infotypes transaction (PM01).
9.     Choose Create All.
The additional fields are displayed on the list screen, however, they contain no data.
The fields can be filled in the FORM routine FILL-LISTSTRUCT in the generated program ZPnnnn00. The FORM routine is called for each data record in the list.
Structure ZPLIS is identified when it is generated with a TABLES statement in the program ZPnnnn00.
The fields can be filled from the Pnnnn structure or by reading text tables.

what I do understand, you want to display the value of each point in your Line Graph.
I guess you will be having BIGraph.xml file. In this file check the "Show Data Tips When Mouse is over bars" checkbox.

There is a option in LV,
"Edit --> Make current value defult"
Every time you reopen your VI, it will set to your custom default value.
There are many ways of doing this.
Another way of doing this is, You can use "sequence structure and property node". Make the property node of your array and choose "value". Then mark it to write. See attach.

When i change the value of a combo box using a property node it displays the value not the item label

I am using a combo box as a select list for text serial commands. I have items like "engineering", "GUI", and "Scan" for the commands "MDE", "MDN", and MDS respectively which i have input as the corresponding value in the combo box. so for example the label "engineering" has the value "MDE" in the combo box items list. when the Vi starts it needs to read the current value MDE, MDN, or MDS and then i want it to display on the front panel the item text corresponding to that command value.
To do this i have tried to read the serial command, ie MDS and then wire that to a "value" property of a property node of the combo-box, but instead of displaying the corresponding item label, "Scan", it displays the value "MDS" on the front panel instead. i want the front panel to use the label text when choosing and displaying but the block diagram to use the serial commands. Can this be done with a combo box? I'm trying to use a combo box so i can keep it all text and avoid having to build a case statement to convert enums or rings from a numerical value to the text command.
The correct text value is wired to the value property and it does exist in the combo-box. I have unchecked "values match items" and selected to not allow undefined values.

Don't use the value property node. Use the Text.Text property node. When creating the property node, select Text, then in the next pop-up box, select Text.

create your internal table dynamically (with number of columns corresponding to number of sizes)
this is done easily with class CL_ALV_TABLE_CREATE method CREATE_DYNAMIC_TABLE
then use the internal table for ALV output
