Distance calculation with the help of mappoint and sql server integration services
How to use mappoint 2011 with SSIS 2012 to calculate the distance between two zip codes? is there any process to calculate the distancein ssis?
SSIS being an ETL tool (moving and transforming data) does not have native integration with mapPoint, nor it exposes any 'Geo' functions to operate on geometry or geoshape data.
I imagine to achieve what you need SSIS should not be used solely, if you can read the ZIP codes then you can calculate the distance in C# (say) code which in turn can be used in SSIS Script Task if needed: http://www.wiredprairie.us/blog/index.php/archives/688

I'm new to SQL Server Integration Services and I need help on how to begin learning SSIS. Is there any training for it besides msdn?
Check this thread where people have already given their suggestion on learning SSIS
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/f2cc1cf3-204d-454a-a189-47df87a3aa23/i-want-to-learn-ssis?forum=sqlintegrationservices
I would suggest to go for You tube videos (type learn SSIS or begin SSIS step by step) you will get lot of good tutorials to start with.
Happy Learning!!

Tax with the help of idoc and EDI
Dear gurus,
how can we process tax data that is used between two systems through the help of IDOC and EdI? It would be great for ur kind support.Hi Amit,
I do not understand how a non-sap system having an idoc adapte?
Do you mean the non-sap system has the ability to understand the IDOC files?
If yes, then your scenario is typically a IDOC-to File scenario.
Read this:
https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/e07dcaa0-a92b-2a10-3a96-b3d942bd1539
If you do not intend to use XI in between, then you can just configure the outbound IDOCs in your SAP system and configure a file port in we21 transaction and create the partner profile in we20 transaction.

Hi!
The setup process fails with this error:
Configuration error code:
0x1C2074D8@1216@1
Configuration error description: There was an error setting private property 'VirtualServerName' to value 'CLUSTER02' for resource 'SQL Server'. Error: Value does not fall within the expected range.
I have found some hints by google, but nothing really helpfull.
Has anyone had a simular problem when installing SQL server 2008 R2?
All posts I found are about sql server 2008 (no R2!).
The cluster itself is working (storage, network, msdtc, quorum...).
Any hints?
Andreas

Please make sure that the Virtual Server Name ‘CLUSTER02’ is unique on the network. In addition, are there any resources named ‘SQL Server’ on the Windows cluster? If that is the case, you may need to rename the related resources to avoid conflicting with
SQL Server, and try again.

Creating OLAP report with Crystal Reports and SQL Server Analysis Services 2005
Post Author: orahc_mao
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
Hi!
I am currently using the trial version of the Crystal Reports XI and I wanted to do an OLAP report. The problem is I cannot select a cube using "OLAP Connection Browser" (the popup window). I already selected Microsoft OLE DB Provider and entered the server name but still can't connect.
I don't think the problem is with SQL Server Analysis Services (2005) since Microsoft Excel - Import Data can detect the server as well as the cube I have created.
I also tried the "Database Expert" of Crystal Reports, created an OLE DB (ADO) connection with "OLE DB Provider for OLAP Services 8.0" driver, entered the server name, checked the integrated security and then I can readily select the database created at SQL Server Analysis Services. However, I still need the OLAP grid create the report but it goes back to my original problem... selecting a cube.
I hope somebody would help me with this issue.
Thanks a lot!
orahc_maoHello,
I don't recognize those variables as CR ones so it's likely something the original developer is setting in code.
You'll have to discuss with that person.
If your have SDK issues then post your question to one of the .NET or Java SDK forums.
Thank you

Dealing with the DATE data type in SQL Server
As you know, a date is stored in SQL Server as "yyyy-mm-dd" when using the DATE data type. This is also how it displays when I pull it into my Access front-end (even if I set the field's format to Short Date.)
I'd like to be able to display it based on the user's regional settings. I know I can use the FORMAT method in VBA to change it to mm/dd/yyyy, but I have users in other countries and I don't want to have to maintain a number of different versions.
Any idea how I can automatically display the date in my MS Access form based on the user's regional settings?
Thanks.Your solution, however, does not address the root of the problem. Access thinks it is a text field because there is no such thing as a 'Date' data type in Access. You will run into problems anywhere in Access, that you expect it to perform as
a Date/Time field. E.G. sorting, filtering. 'Date' is one of the newer data types in SQL Server 2008+. You should be using SQL Server DateTime or SmallDateTime data type. Access will recognize those as a Date/Time data type and treat them accordingly. -
QSUF (Query string url filter) and SQL Server reporting services report viewer parameters
Hi,
this is my issue:
I have a SQL Server reporting services web part on a page with a report with 1 parameter, lets say it's a client list
Then i have a QSUF that will be used to filter the clients list through the URL
However, once i connect the filter and the report viewer web part, the parameter goes away and is no longer accessible
I'd like to somehow keep the parameter visible, in case there is no parameter sent through the URL, i would like the user to be able to choose a client from the parameter drop down list
I saw that there is a "send empty if no values are passed" option, but i can't seem to get this working properly and i don't know if this option will make the parameter visible again
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks.Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that the query string url filter web part not worked well with SQL server reproting services web part.
Did you use the Wiki page layout in your environment?
You can change the page to a web part page, then check whether it work.
There is a similar thread for your reference.

Reporting with Report Builder 3.0 and SQL Server 2008 R2
Hi everyone
I'm trying really hard to find books about Report Builder 3.0 or SQL Server 2008 R2
I found the following books on the "learn" site, sadly they do not cover Report Builder 3.0 or SQL Server 2008 R2 since there all too old.
Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 Analysis Services Step by Step
Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 MDX Step by Step
Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 Reporting Services Step by Step
What are good books (like the ones above) for the newest system?Hello wishmasterIN,
Thank you to post your question on TechNet forum.
Based on my experience, the books are always delayed to the new technology, since the author need time to summarize and analyze the new features in the new product or technology, write it down and publish it. If you want to have a quick learning about the
new technology, MSDN library is a good place. It can be a cookbook for you. It contains some detail steps for tools, such as Report Builder or BIDS. It also contains many new features introduction. It is always very useful for you to understand the new features.
In addition, it is based on web and many links make you can jump to the other technical point freely. The most important is all of these is free and all the information will be updated if the new feature is released.
In short, if you want to learn the latest technology about Microsoft product, MSDN is a good choice. I hope my introduction is helpful to you.

Hi
i have a sharepoint deployment with one SQL Server (running on VM) hosting the config DB and another SQL Server (Physical Host because VM was running out of space) to host the huge Content DBs. I need to schedule automatic backups of the Content DBs to a
network share. For that i need to run the SQL Server Service with an account having permissions to the share as suggested in https://support.microsoft.com/kb/207187?wa=wsignin1.0
I tried changing the logon as a service account to a domain
account which has permissions to the Network Share and is also in local Administrators group of SQL Server and has "public and sysadmin" roles in SQL Server but that caused an issue. the SharePoint Web Application started showing a White Screen so
I had to revert back to the default accounts i.e. NT Service\SQLSERVERAGENT and NT Service\MSSQLSERVER. I viewed the event logs . These are the types of error i got after changing the logon as a service account to a domain account

The target principal name is incorrect. Cannot generate SSPI context.Hi Aparna,
According to your description, you get the above two errors when scheduling backups of Content DB. Right?
Based on those two error messages, they are related to the service principal name(SPN) for SQL Server service. Please verify the if the SPN is registered successfully. You can view it in ADSI Edit or use command line. Please see:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/psssql/archive/2010/03/09/what-spn-do-i-use-and-how-does-it-get-there.aspx
When installing SQL Server, those two services below should be registered:
MSSQLSvc/servername:1433
MSSQLSvc/servername
Please check if those SPNs or duplicated SPNs exist. You can use command to reset SPN or remove duplicated SPN and add new one. See:
Setspn.
We have also met this issue when this SPN is registered under Administrator. Please try to register it under Computer. You can add it in ADSI Edit.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

Introduction
There is the scenario that users configured hundreds of subscriptions for reports. Now they want to disable all the subscriptions, but Reporting Services and SQL Server Agent service should be enable, so the subscriptions will not delivery reports to users
and users could run the reports and create jobs on the server.
Solution
To achieve this requirement, we need to list all subscriptions and their schedules by running query, then use loop statement to disable all the subscription schedules by Job name.
On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server instance, and then click SQL Server Management Studio.
Type Server name and select Authentication, click Connect.
Click New Query in menu to open a new Query Editor window.
List all subscriptions and their schedules by running the following query:
Use ReportServer
go
SELECT c.[Name] ReportName,
s.ScheduleID JobName,
ss.[Description] SubscriptionDescription,
ss.DeliveryExtension SubscriptionType,
c.[Path] ReportFolderPath,
row_number() over(order by s.ScheduleID) as rn
into
#Temp
FROM
ReportSchedule rs
INNER JOIN Schedule s ON rs.ScheduleID = s.ScheduleID
INNER JOIN Subscriptions ss ON rs.SubscriptionID = ss.SubscriptionID
INNER JOIN [Catalog] c ON rs.ReportID = c.ItemID AND ss.Report_OID = c.ItemID
select * from #temp
Use the loop statement to disable all the subscription schedules by Job name:
DECLARE
@count INT,
@maxCount INT
SET @COUNT=1
SELECT @maxCount=MAX(RN)
FROM
#temp
DECLARE
@job_name VARCHAR(MAX)
WHILE @COUNT <=@maxCount
BEGIN
SELECT @job_name=jobname FROM #temp WHERE RN=@COUNT
exec msdb..sp_update_job @job_name = @job_name,@enabled = 0
SET @COUNT=@COUNT+1 P
RINT @job_name
END
PRINT @COUNT

Please click to vote if the post helps you. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. Thanks,
Is this a supported scenario, or does it use unsupported features?
For example, can we call exec [ReportServer].dbo.AddEvent @EventType='TimedSubscription', @EventData='b64ce7ec-d598-45cd-bbc2-ea202e0c129d'
in a supported way?
Thanks! Josh -
JDBC, and SQL Server's Datetime
I am very new to Java, and have been working mostly with PHP, Perl, and MYSQL. So here is my question, how do I work with the Datetime data type in SQL Server and Java's java.sql.Date class?
Here is what I have to do:
Enter the current date into the date field of when the user took the survey.
And when reports are requested, I have to get responses which fall between two dates.
I'm not expecting any code, but a point in the right direction would be brilliant. Thank you.First I would suggest you have a look at the JDBC tutorial. There's a link to it from this page:
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/
And then when you get around to programming your application, you'll find it easier if you use PreparedStatements rather than Statements for specifying "between two dates". And you'll need to use java.sql.Timestamp if your "dates" include time components, since java.sql.Date is only a date with no time. -
