Distorting portion of object under a given object

Suppose you have some fancy drawing you've done. Now you put a simple circle on top of just part of it, make the circle red and set it to 50% transparent. You've now colored the image under just that part of the circle. Easy, right?
I would like to do something similar but with an envelope/mesh... I would like to draw a circle over part of my image and distort the view of the parts of objects under that circle, without breaking any of the connections. So, for example, if my underlying image was a simple grid, I'd like to be able to put an ellipse over it to create this:
Any where I drag that ellipse would distort the region under the ellipse. Is there any way to do this in Illustrator? I know there are various ways to create an envelope or mesh for an entire shape, but I need to do that for just parts of many shapes that happen to be together.
If there's a completely better way to go about doing this, please let me know. I've searched all over the Internet and though I find various things on warping whole objects or using Photoshop filters, I've found nothing that helps this problem in Illustrator.

Well, that's depressing. I need to stay in vector graphics, and I'm not sure I have the skill to draw the shapes as they would be distorted -- certainly not to update those edits if I decide I need to move the distortion over a bit.
*sigh* I hate marking your answer as correct, but thank you for the information. At least I can stop searching for the feature since it doesn't exist!

  • Need a query to list all the personalized objects under a given path

    Hello Gurus,
    Can you help me with a query that will give me a list of all personalized objects that are under a given path like /oracle/apps/per/...
    Thanks,
    Vinod

    Hi Vinod,
    You can get the details from Functional Administrator responsibility, personalization tab, enter the "Document Path" like /oracle/apps/per
    and check the "Personalized" checkbox. And you can import the personalization to the file system also. More details check the Note
    The query
    begin
    jdr_utils.listcustomizations('/oracle/apps/pon/award/completion/webui/ponCompleteAward2PG');
    end;
    Will give the details for only one page.
    Thanks.

  • Records under a given component

    Hi There,
    Could anyone help me in finding the Records under a given component in PeopleSoft through SQL(thru backend)...not through App Designer...
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    You can try using the query, probably a refined form
    SELECT DISTINCT PNLNAME,RECNAME FROM PSPNLFIELD WHERE PNLNAME IN (SELECT PNLNAME FROM PSPNLGROUP WHERE PNLGRPNAME LIKE 'PURCHASE_ORDER')
    However, If there are records that are updated as part of the SavePostChange event, safest idea would be run a PC/SQL trace and then segregate the DELETE, INSERT, UPDATE and SELECT statements using PSTraceAnalyzer.

  • How to compile ALL java files in OR UNDER a given directory?

    G'Day Folkies,
    At face value, TikeSwing looks like the money shot for enforcing MVC in my version of minesweeper http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=54&threadID=5248903
    I'm attempting to build the "Hello World" example which comes with TikeSwing.
    http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-06-2005/jw-0620-tikeswing.html
    It compiles ok
    C:\Java\lib\tikeswing-1.5\example\src\fi\mmm\hello>javac -d C:\Java\home\classes -cp C:\Java\lib\tikeswing-1.5\src;C:\Java\lib\tikes

    Note: Some input files use unchecked or unsafe operations.
    Note: Recompile with -Xlint:unchecked for details.
    But it doesn't run
    I presume that javac isn't detecting all dependancies, presumably because Tike "decouples M from V from C" using reflections.

    FYI.... Here's the quick and dirty, slower than a wet week, ugly, but effective batch script
    set TIKE=C:\Java\lib\tikeswing-1.5
    set SRC=%TIKE%\src
    set LIB=%TIKE%\lib

    @ECHO OFF
    REM http://www.robvanderwoude.com/ntfor.html
    REM Walks the directory tree rooted at [drive:]path, executing the FOR statement
    REM in each directory of the tree. If no directory specification is specified
    REM after /R then the current directory is assumed. If set is just a single
    REM period (.) character then it will just enumerate the directory tree.I can't figure out how do the equivalent of javac `dir /s /b *.java` (ie: cmd doesn't seem to have a built-in facility for expanding the results of a command into the command line) which would be a lot quicker and cleaner.
    Cheers all. Thanx for the help. I appreciate it.

  • Display community pages under active community tab in left vert nav

    Hi, I'm trying to display the community pages in an "active" Comunity under the given Community tab in left vertical nav. I simply need to find out how I can access the community id from the HTMLAnchor so I can compare this community id to commP.GetCurCommunityID(). I tried calling url.GetAccessKey() and url.GetID(), these do not get current community id - both throw a NumberFormatException when I try Integer.parseInt on the String (because they return null).
    This is the CListURLMediator I am looping through:
    while(mediator.Next())
    HTMLAnchor url = (HTMLAnchor) mediator.GetEntry();
    AddBgImageListRow(table, url);
    // TODO: add page links under ACTIVE community link
    /*if (NavPageType.COMMUNITY == m_model.GetCurNavPageType())
    CommunityNavPage commP = (CommunityNavPage) m_model.GetPageSpecificMethods();
    //url.GetAccessKey() or url.GetID() do not get current community id - both throw NumberFormatException
    if (commP.GetCurCommunityID() == Integer.parseInt(url.GetAccessKey()))
    CypressWriteCommPagesTable(table, col, commP);
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Victor

    The mediators will only give you pre-built constructs with the URL. But, you can use the ICPListEntryIterator object to enumerate over it in the same way you iterate over a mediator. ICPListEntryIterator.GetEntry returns a ListEntry class, which has a GetCommunityID method.

  • Keeping Heap Usage lower than a given threshold level

    Hello,
    We are trying to find out which are the most suitable parameters for the gc for our application.
    We have an application using a 1GB heap.
    We have tried different combinations of parameters, such as generational gc vs single spaced, different nursery sizes, dynamic gc with priority on memory throughput vs pause time, …
    We plot the usage of the heap before and after the gc has run.
    There is one common thing that we see with all the different configurations: The heap usage always reaches levels of around 95% of the heap size.
    We would like to find a way to reduce the heap usage (even if it increases the pause times. If the pause time is higher, we will analyze the final impact on our application responsiveness and decide afterwards).
    The ideal would be to find a way to keep it under a given threshold level (let’s say, 70% of the total heap size).
    Your ideas will be very welcome.
    Thanks and regards,
    Ramiro

    I'm not sure I understand your question, but I'll give you an answer and
    you can tell me if it helped :-).
    Basically the gc doesn't trigger until the heap is full. For
    generational GCs, nursery collections will trigger when the nursery is
    full. Some objects get promoted, and when the heap is entirely full an
    old-space collection is performed.
    So you can't really get JRockit to gc before the heap is full.
    If you want to know how small heap you can use, look at how much space
    is used after a full gc. Add some marigin of error, then use that value
    for -Xmx.
    I don't know what tool you're using for plotting the heap usage, but you
    could use JRockit's Management Console (bin/jrcc). Also, if you want to
    know where your heap memory is going, try the memleak detector from
    http://dev2dev.bea.com/jrockit/tools.html.

  • Securely deploying and using credentials within a script (not running the script under the credentials)

    Here is my scenario - I have SCOM 2007 R2 and on certain agents I want to execute a script. One of the actions of that script is to access a secured web page using a username and password via integrated authentication (IE pop-up for auth).
    The username and password that I need to use are unrelated to the Windows domain that the servers run in, meaning you can think of the website as if it were a public site (it isn't, but it has no security sharing with the domain where the agents run - no trust,
    no nothing).
    I can easily accomplish this by hard-coding the username and password within the script (powershell), however, I don't want to do this for security reasons. Here's a rough example of the relevant code:
    $targetURL = "https://somehost.somewhere.something/filename.zip"
    $path = "c:\downloads\filname.zip"
    $wclient = New-Object System.Net.WebClient
    $wclient.Credentials = New-Object System.Net.Networkcredential($uname, $pword)
    $wclient.DownloadFile( $url, $path )
    What I want is a way to pass the $uname and $pword variables to this script securely, with the script running on a schedule under SCOM. The SCOM agents run as localsystem and need to remain that way.
    I currently use Run-As accounts and profiles for other functions where the entire script runs under the run-as profile, but I can't figure out how to extract the username and passwords, and doubt it's even possible.
    To be clear, I cannot run the script under the given credentials as a Run-As account as those credentials are not known to the local server. I need to somehow pass the credentials to the script (other than hardcoding) or extract them from the run-as accounts.
    I've looked at the get-runasaccount cmdlet and can see some of the info there, but don't see a way to re-use, pass-through, or extract the password for use in my scenario.
    Any guidance? Can I get there from here?

    Hi, check this
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/ebfc706d-93be-4ca0-83e0-33d9e072fb97/powershell-script-monitor-with-encrypted-password?forum=operationsmanagerauthoring
    But you should not specify runas account for your workflow, just reference Runas Username and Password from Profile and use simple authentication. (The same way as in article above)
    So in the end your script will be executed by default action account but you'll pass username and password securely to your script.

  • Color Distortion with Mac Lion, CS6, Epson R2880 printer

    When I had Snow Leopard, CS4 and Epson R2280, I got prints that looked like what was on the monitor.
    When I bought a new Mac which switched my operating system to Lion, and Adobe recommended  I buy CS5 which I did.  When I went to print, trying every setting imaginable, the color was too dark, distorted and lifeless.  I called support on January 23, 2012 and they have not solved the problem YET.
    I was very excited to try CS6.  I selected use CS4 profiles.
    I printed a PSD file using Printer controls setting, color matching, epson.  The results are marginally better.  The pictures do not come out as dark but yellows turn green and greens turn blue.  Blues are sligtly darker and reds are off- mostly darker.  I got the same results letting photoshop control the colors.  This lack or responsiveness to changes in commands is the same thing I encountered with CS5.  I also tried printing an unadjusted raw file and the color did not change.
    I know how to use the Epson R2880 so I chose the correct media and ink.
    When I print from Apples preview or iPhoto, the color is perfect.
    Given that Epson is a high quality photoprinter, Adobe should make it their business to be sure their product works with Epson.

    I too have a MacBook with Lion and an Epson R2880..I'm in the process of evaluating CS6 on the
    MAC platform after using PS and Premier Pro on Windows boxes since 1995; so far I'm
    very impressed with how CS6 runs under LION given the somewhat strained
    relationship between Apple & Adobe..but I digress..my first attempt at a print
    with Luster produced very distorted imagery compared to that of my Thunderbolt
    display (which I love BTW)..I recognize the distortion almost certainly
    that caused by either 1)an improperly selected printer driver in the dialoges or
    2)bad or clogged ink jets or 3)a printer driver not updated for my new hardware/software
    combo..in this case LION with CS6 (beta s/w)...now in my case its not #2 as I just
    printed the same tiff file with CS5 on my Windows machine perfectly; its also not #1 cause
    I checked & rechecked the matte settings...I suspect #3 is the culprit..I'll do some
    more troubleshooting with this and report back..
    Oh, BTW, soft proofing on my MAC TB display revelaed not distortions so even
    tho I have done no monitor calibrations on this display I have no reason to
    suspect thatas the culprit..

  • Any way to change the window size in Free Distort tool?

    The little window that opens up when you selected the Effect -- Distort & Transform -- Free Distort tool is so small I can't get it to do what I want it to do.  The minimum amount of distortion is about twice as much as what I'm trying to achieve.  The anchor points are magnetic, and they either snap to the undistorted corners of the object bounding box, or else they snap outward to a degree that's much more than I'm trying to do.  Here's what it looks like.
    Any assistance greatly appreciated!
    Butch

    I don't know how to change the size of the free distort dialog. However, for your particular transformation, you could draw a rectangle that covers your type, distort it using the free transform tool (or any number of other tools), and perform an envelope distort with top object.
    The resulting "live" object will be editable to the extent that you can modify the envelope shape after the distortion is applied (and have the text conform). However, the text itself will not be "live" (editable) as it would be with the free distort effect.

  • Creation of BOM for given scenario

    Hi All
    I have a requirement of creating BOM under the given scenario:
    I am currently into some food industy implementation wherein a certain raw food product is bought from farmers, It is then segregated as per the grade through a grading machine, the grade is again based on the size of the raw material, the challenge which am facing is if suppose the input to the machine is 100kg then after grading process how much of the input would be coming as Grade-A, Grade-B & Grade-C is not confirmed, it can be any combination of these three or it can be combination of these three & the wastage as well.
    I shall look forward to your valuable inputs for mapping of the BOM in the given scenario.
    Regards,
    J K Tharwani

    Hi JK,
    I had worked on a similar scenario, but there is one thing which is not clear and needs to be decided by you with the business is fixing of the quantity of any one grade i.e A,B or C the theoritical quantity and approximate scrap that you can expect. Once this decision is made then depending on the costing point of view you shall decided whether you need to go the co product way or the byproduct way along with the apportionment structure decision.
    For our purpose say we have decided that normally B grade product comes out in more quantity when processing the input product "X". Then we can create a BOM with the header material as "B" and the components shall contain "X" in positive quanity and the other grades "A" ,"C", and scrap in negative quantities. So the BOM will look like this
    say for example the B grade you shall get 60 kgs out of every 100 kgs of X. then the bom will look as follows
    B(60)= 1.component X=100 kgs ,2. component A=(-20 kgs) 3. component B= (-20 kgs)
    By using the above structure once a process order is created for B then the input product gets consumed (261 movement takes place) and paralley the 531 movemnt takes place for component A and B since they are in negative quantities and parallely B gets 101 GR to take place.
    But its the business to decide the approximate composition for the BOM depending on the type of raw material they get. The business normally knows if the raw material comes from this farmer what kind of grade can be expected.
    Hope this solution solves your issue.
    Best Regards
    Sasibhushan

  • How to return list of lowest level elements in a hierarchy given the node o

    We would like to return a list of the lowest level Elements in a Hierarchy from a given node of the hierarchy.  The level of the node that is given to us is unknown, but regardless, we need the ability to return the lowest level elements.  We are trying to find a non-ABAP solution to our needs and trying to use a BEx query as a source for our APD.
    In query designer we are able to obtain the correct list when using the Hierarchy and Condition with a Leaf value of '1' to return the lowest level. However,  We have come to learn APDs do no support the BEx hierarchies.  When we de-selected the 'Activate Hierarchy' display in the query, the entire structure under the given node is returned.
    Does anybody know of a way to return just the lowest level elements in a hierarchy so we can feed our APD?
