Distribute Reports to Blob Column

Is it possible to distribute BI Publisher reports to a blob column? I would like this feature for my scheduled reports.
Regards,
Todd

Thanks for the replies,
I'm not familiar with these solutions, so I will need to research...
I would like to have my application users submit BIP reports to the BIP scheduler. Then once the BIP reports are distributed to a blob column (in a table I define). The application users could then retrieve their reports from the blob column...
I like the idea of having the report in a blob column as it simplifies my application security. I can control my application security through the database. Having the report stored in the database along with security logic also enables my application to show the user only the reports they've run...
Thanks,
Todd

  • Need to create link to Word Doc in blob column in search results report

    I got the Oracle Text boolean search of word documents in a blob column of a table working.
    Now I need to be able to create a link in the results report.
    I know that Oracle creates a link for each document in the column when you attach a file, I just need to know what the link should be to allow users to open the document in the search results report.
    Right now the application is set to do a search in the attached word documents, and in the results window it shows the names of the people who match the search, but it won't allow me to create a link to their resume in the results report.
    the name of the table is CONTRACTOR_LIST and the blob column is RESUME.
    How would you go about creating a simple link to the word file in the results window?
    Here is the code for the query
    select score(1) relevance, Name, Resume
    from contractor_list
    where CONTAINS (resume, :P1_SEARCH, 1) > 0
    order by 1 desc
    That works, but I can't get it to link to the resume file.
    Here is the code I'm using for the link
    javascript:popupURL("#RESUMEL#")
    This just give me an error page and the the link is
    http://server-namer:8080/apex/[datatype]
    the error is
    Bad Request
    The HTTP client sent a request that this server could not understand.
    Thanks again!

    It is within the table I believe (I'm not a DBA or a developer) since I created a BLOB column and then used the file browse feature to allow users to attach a resume to the table in order to be able to perform a search of the attached documents.
    I'm just having a hard time pointing the link in the search results report to the document in the blob column.
    The information on that page is great if you're trying to create a link to the document on the initial report.
    But I created a query using Oracle Text to run a report that does a boolean search of the attached word documents in the table.
    When it displays the search results, it doesn't create a link to the document and I can't figure out how to do it.
    Here's a link the the instructions I used to create the initial search report with Oracle Text, mind you I only created the index and query, I didn't add in all the link data since they're using documents on websites and I'm using documents in a table.

    If you can help me with this I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks again.

  • How to create dynamic link which point to a BLOB column in report

    Hello,
    I am fighting with the issue for about 2 days.
    My purpose is to use Oracle Report Builder to build a report of our employee directory which contains employee's information and also employee's picture. The requirement is that our report is going to generate a html file to our web server. By creating a dynamic hyperlink to the Employee's name in the report output file (the html file generated to our web server), it should then display the corresponding employee's picture which is a BLOB column stored in our oracle database.
    I only can create the hyperlink for the employee's name if the link is static, like 'http://www.google.com
    But from the Oracle Reports 10g Release2 (10.1.2), about the exmaple 1: Dynamic hyperlink, I refered the link
    http://www.oracle.com/webapps/online-help/reports/10.1.2/state/content/navId.3/navSetId._/vtTopicFile.htmlhelp_rwbuild_hs%7Crwcontxt%7Cprops%7Cpi_lay_hyperlink%7Ehtm/
    The link gave he following example shows a value for the Hyperlink property that specifies a link to a destination identified dynamically:
    'DEPT_DETAILS_' || LTRIM(TO_CHAR(:DEPTNO))
    where :DEPTNO is a column value retrieved from the database at runtime.
    I tried as the same way to want it dynamcially shows the column :EMP_PHTOT, which is one BLOB column, but it was failed.
    Anyone knows how to implement this? Any inputs is appreciated!

    What exactly is the error messag u are getting ?
    If u have a hyperlink which refers to www.oracle.com in ur pdf, does it work ?
    I think simple URL from PDF will not retrieve any data from the oracle database since it has to make some database connection.
    My suggestion would be whenever request for employee information comes,
    extract that picture from blob and put it a virtual folder in the application server.
    And from the pdf/report access the URL with reference to the picture...

  • How to show pdf or word icons for a BLOB column in a report?

    Hi,
    I am getting interested for the blob columns, I have created some columns for storing some pdf drawings and pictures for specific items in a table, it is ok to show a text like 'download' or any other text in the report by setting the following blob attribute:
    DOWNLOAD:TICKET_DETAILS:ATTACHMENT:TICKET_DETAILS_ID::MIME_TYPE:FILE_NAME:::inline:Download
    but instead of texts, I would like to show a small pdf image for my Blob file, or a word image or Excel image, according to the different file type.
    how to do that?
    and instead of inline or attachment this two options, I would like when the user click the image of the file, the browser will show the image in a new window, or a new browser tab.
    I tried the inline option for my file at Google Chrome, but when it showed the pdf file within the browser, I cannot get back to my app by clicking the 'backward' icon at the browser menu, it will stuck there and I have to close the broswer and then login to the app again, instead of simply returning back to the previous page within the app.
    Please help me out.
    Thanks

    Please try using a query like below for your report.
    SELECT ticket_details_id,
    CASE
       WHEN NVL(dbms_lob.getlength(attachment),0) = 0 THEN NULL
       ELSE
          CASE
             WHEN mime_type LIKE 'image%'
                THEN '<a href="'||apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P101_ATTACHMENT',ticket_details_id)||'" target="_blank"><img src="/i/image_icon.gif" /></a>'
             WHEN mime_type = 'application/pdf'
                THEN '<a href="'||apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P101_ATTACHMENT',ticket_details_id)||'" target="_blank"><img src="#IMAGE_PREFIX#menu/pdf_32.gif" /></a>'
             WHEN mime_type like '%ms-excel%'
                THEN '<a href="'||apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P101_ATTACHMENT',ticket_details_id)||'" target="_blank"><img src="/i/excel_icon.gif" /></a>'
             WHEN mime_type like '%msword%'
                THEN '<a href="'||apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P101_ATTACHMENT',ticket_details_id)||'" target="_blank"><img src="/i/word_icon.gif" /></a>'
             WHEN mime_type like '%ms-powerpoint%'
                THEN '<a href="'||apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P101_ATTACHMENT',ticket_details_id)||'" target="_blank"><img src="/i/powerpoint_icon.gif" /></a>'
             ELSE '<a href="'||apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P101_ATTACHMENT',ticket_details_id)||'" target="_blank"><img src="/i/office_icon.gif" /></a>'
          END
    END attachment
    FROM ticket_details
    WHERE ticket_details_id = :P102_TICKET_DETAILS_IDPlease note that I am using APEX_UTIL.GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC function to download the BLOB files. The first parameter of this function in my example query is P101_ATTACHMENT, which refers to page item of type "File Browse" on page 101, which is a DML form on table TICKET_DETAILS. Replace it with the appropriate page number. Please refer to "Working With BLOBs Procedurally" section of this APEX 3.2 documentation for more: [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14373_01/appdev.32/e11838/advnc.htm#sthref2199]http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14373_01/appdev.32/e11838/advnc.htm#sthref2199
    Also I have the gif images representing various MIME types on my file server. For e.g., /i/excel_icon.gif. You can use #WORKSPACE_IMAGES# if you want to.

  • Interactive Report will not save BLOB Column Attributes

    I have created many interactive reports with 4.0 and 4.1 that had BLOB columns with no problems and the download link worked fine. After upgrading to 4.2, the interactive reports get the following error when clicking on the download link:
    Not found
    The requested URL /apex/apex_util.get_blob was not found on this server
    If I open the edit page from the report, the BLOB downloads fine. When I looked at the report attributes details for the BLOB column, I noticed the BLOB Column Attributes had not been populated. I have tried repeatedly to populate them (Table Name, Column Name, Primary Key, MIMETYPE, etc.) but after applying the changes and reopening the attributes page for the blob column, the values I entered are not saved.
    For completeness, here is the select statement for the report:
    select "DESC_ATT_ID",
    "BR_ID",
    "FILENAME",
    "MIMETYPE",
    dbms_lob.getlength("DESC_ATTACHMENT") "DESC_ATTACHMENT"
    from "#OWNER#"."ALTEC_BR_DESC_ATT"
    WHERE BR_ID = :P3_BR_ID
    Also, here is the value for the Number/Date format for the BLOB Column:
    DOWNLOAD:ALTEC_BR_DESC_ATT:DESC_ATTACHMENT:DESC_ATT_ID
    Can someone please point me in the right direction to get the link for the interactive report working properly?
    Many thanks,
    Jerry

    Hello,
    How about you do not use BLOB format Column, you do it manually as this example here:
    apex.oracle.com
    workspace: somefeto
    user: test
    pwd: test
    Application 63066
    in the same workspace, there is      Sample File Upload and Download (App ID 10540), and it is working fine ....
    Otherwise, Pls, reproduce the problem on apex.oracle.com

  • Problem with download link for a BLOB Column in a "Classic report"

    I am having a problem where I cannot make a download link for a blob column function in a "classic" (non-interactive) report. I went through the tutorial on this topic and it was great help it working out the minor bugs, but I get a 404 error (apex_util.get_BLOB not found). For testing purposes I went ahead and created a an identical report on the same page that is an "Interactive report" and it works like a charm. Same query, same BLOB formatting Mask, pulling data from the same table. So, it really doesn't seem like an issue with the grants, since both reports should be executing as the same user.
    I know it sounds like the obvious answer is to just go with the interactive report and my problem is solved, but the rest of this site uses classic reports, and I don't need the sort features of an interactive report, and the slightly different style of the the report really stands out even if I turn off all the bells and whistles. I don't want to change the css to make them look identical, I just want a regular report to work.

    I eventually found another post: APEX_UTIL.GET_BLOB was not found on this server
    In this post there is the suggestion of putting "dbms_lob.getlength("var")" after the date field in your select. So I changed my query to have it at the end, and now my format mask (DOWNLOAD:table_name:ATTACHED_FILE:FILE_ID::FILE_MIME_TYPE:FILE_NAME:::attachment:Download) works like a charm, in a classic report.

  • Store report output to blob column

    Hi,
    I would like to know whether it is possible to execute a report built using Report 10G and store its output, e.g. PDF content, onto a blob column of a table directly? If it's possible, could anyone show me an example in achieving it. Thank you.

    Navneet,
    Thanks for the sample. I've tried setting up this custom destination and I get the following error when trying to run a report.

    The URL that I am using is as follows:
    http://server_name:port/reports/rwservlet?report=report_name.rdf&userid=username/password@tnsname_entry&destype=BLOBdestination&desformat=PDF&DESNAME=http://username/password@host_name:port/instance/table_name/document_column_name/primary_key_column_name/10/report_desc_column_name
    Any ideas on what I've done wrong?

  • Image stored in BLOB column crashes report's engine

    Hi,
    I have a report where I display logos stored in a BLOB column on the DB.
    The report is generated as RTF.
    When images have sizes of 624x168 or 423x324 everything is OK. One image, 1221x224, is crashig the report with a dr. Watson error.
    Any idea why?
    The size of the "bad" image file is 38K, and the "good" ones are about 300K.

    Images are displayed in column but they have different sizes.Stick to declarative BLOB images as above. They can be resized in reports using CSS. Add a style sheet in the page Inline CSS property:
    td[headers="IMAGE"] img {
      display: block;
      width: 75px;
      border: 1px solid #999;
      padding: 6px;
      background: #f6f6f6;
    }where the <tt>IMAGE</tt> value in the attribute selector is the table header ID of the image column. Setting only one dimension (in this case the width) scales the image with the correct aspect ratio. (The border, padding and background properties are just eye candy...)
    However, if the original images are large then scaling them in the browser this way is a huge waste of bandwidth and produces poorer quality images than creating proper scaled down versions using image tools. Downloading megapixel images and then reducing them to thumbnail size results in pointlessly pushing millions of bytes that will never be seen.
    For improved performance and image quality, and where you require image-specific scaling the best approach is to use the database ORDImage object to produce thumbnail and preview versions automatically. Note that this is not possible in Oracle XE as Multimedia is not included

    This is my first opportunity to work with BLOB columns. I was wondering if anyone had some sample code that shows the loading of a blob column and inserted into the table with a blob column.
    I have to produce a report (including crlf) and place it into a blob column. The user will download the report at a later time.
    Any suggestions / code samples are greatly appreciated!!!!

    You can enable string binding in TopLink.
    login.useStringBinding(int size);
    or you could enable binding in general,
    login.bindAllParameters();

  • BLOB column not updating using automated row processing

    I have fiddled around with creating a simple application to understand how APEX handles images stored in blobs - did a simple app that stores them, gets them, displays them. it all works great.
    so i have this existing table/application that i am trying to add a BLOB column to here's what i did:
    it's a pretty simple form on a table with report application. just one table.
    I added the BLOB to the table (and the other mimetype etc cols as well).
    i added the page items to the form page.
    i basically made everything identical in terms of page item settings and such to the working simple application.
    so here's the problem... when i run the application and update a row, the BLOB column isn't updating. neither are the mimetype or filename columns. the activity date col is.
    and here's another interesting thing. i quickly created another form and report pair on the same table, and when i ran it, it updates the blob col just fine.
    why is my original form not updating it? what can i do to remedy this? any ideas? i've gone though setting by setting for the blob page item and the one that works is identical to the one that doesn't.
    i'm using the automatic row processing to update the table.

    Gary,
    The DML processes (and the creation wizards for them) are for use with items having source type Database Column. If your page items don't use this source type, then neither the Automated Row Fetch nor the Automatic Row Processesing (DML) process types will work.

  • Problem displaying PDF stored in BLOB column

    Hello everyone.
    I've been trying to follow this tutorial http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::p11_question_id:232814159006 on displaying PDFs stored in BLOB columns. This is being performed on Apex 4.2, with my DB running 11g. I've got my procedure, which I'll post below:
    create or replace procedure "PDF" (p_id IN gvo_documents.doc_id%type)
    is
        l_lob    blob;
        l_amt    number default 30;
        l_off   number default 1;
        l_raw   raw(4096);
    begin
        select contents into l_lob
            from gvo_documents
             where doc_id = p_id;
    -- make sure to change this for your type!
        owa_util.mime_header( 'application/pdf' );
        begin
            loop
              dbms_lob.read( l_lob, l_amt, l_off, l_raw );
              htp.prn( utl_raw.cast_to_varchar2( l_raw ) );
              l_off := l_off+l_amt;
              l_amt := 4096;
        end loop;
            exception
               when no_data_found then
                  NULL;
            end;
    end;
    I am trying to run this through a PL/SQL dynamic region and while I don't receive any error's, the content displayed is a huge mess of garbled text and odd characters. I've tried to run this procedure on numerous other document types, including word files and jpeg images, all with the necessary changes in my procedure, and regardless of what I use, I still get a large mess of strange characters. Does anyone have any information or ideas about why this is happening?

    If I understand correctly, your requirements needs to be broken down into two problems:
    1) click link that pops up a window displaying a new APEX page
    2) an APEX page the displays the document, not downloads it.
    I haven't done #1 (yet).
    However, you may be able to generate a URL that points to the new page as part of the SELECT statement for the Report.
    This has a related question, but no answer yet:
    open pdf in popup browser window
    The key is target="_blank" for the anchor tag.
    To generate the URL, you should use the APEX_UTIL.prepare_URL() function.
    If that doesn't work, a Dynamic Action that does some magical JavaScript stuff may be needed.
    For #2, I lost the URL that showed how to display a PDF as part of a "form" page.
    From what I remember:
    Start with a blank page with one blank HTML region (all the Items go in the HTML region)
    Add an Item for the PK/Doc_ID
    part I forgot Create a Data Manipulation Process
    - Automated Row Fetch
    - On Load - After Header
    - (stuff for your table/view)
    part I forgot Create an (I believe) "File Browser" item type. For Settings:
    - Storage Type "BLOB column specified in Item Source" (and place the column name of the BLOB there)
    - MIME Type Column: (column name) -- since you have multiple types, this is a MUST HAVE
    - Filename Column: (column name) -- I highly recommend you have this.
    - Content Disposition == INLINE <-- this is the kicker
    Also, you will need a Browser Plugin for each of the MIME Types (otherwise, the browser may try to 'download' the file)
    Browsers can handle Image types internally. Adobe's plugin can handle PDFs. I don't know about Word/Excel.
    Again, I don't remember the exact details, but that should cover most of it.

  • APEX- How to open world document (and other files) stored in a blob column?

    Hi,
    I have an application developed in Oracle Apex 3.2.1 and RDBMS Oracle 9.2.0.8 (SUN SOLARIS SPARC 64 BITS).
    I have a table called BAC_ARQUIVO, with the following structure:
    CREATE TABLE BAC_ARQUIVO
    (NAME VARCHAR2(4000), /* Name of the file stored in BLOB column */
    SUBJECT VARCHAR2(4000), /* A brief description about this file stored */
    ID NUMBER, /* An identification of this file - It´s a PK column of this table*/
    BLOB_CONTENT BLOB, /* Blob field that store diferent kind of files - XLS, DOC, PPT, PDF, EXE, ZIP, etc);
    MIME_TYPE VARCHAR2(4000) /* Identification about which kind of file is stored on BLOB field */
    The field BLOB_CONTENT of this table can store:
    - Executable files;
    - MS-World Documents (DOC);
    - Zip Files (ZIP);
    - Ms-Excel Files (XLS);
    - Ms-Powerpoint files (PPT);
    - Adobe documents (PDF);
    Actually, in this APEX application, i have developed a interactive Report in which the user can download these files to desktop without problems.
    But now, my user would like to know if it´s possible that APEX application can OPEN some of these files stored on this BLOB column WITHOUT download it.
    My user would like to see a hiperlink (or button) that, if pressed/acessed, can open a new page (or a page inside application) with the document. He doesn´t need to edit this oppened file. He only wants to see it.
    For example, if the file stored in the blob column is ms-word type , so the application will open a MS-WINDOWS application with these file.
    Is it possible?
    I saw in this forum that it´s possible to open a file stored on "/i/" directory, but i need to open the file stored in BLOB column. I don´t want to store the file in operational system of the server.
    Could any one demonstrate to me how it could be done?
    Best regards,

    Here I have given the format mask for APEX 4.0, which will slightly differ for 3.2.1 and proposed changes
    in the format mask are:
    1) Format Mask: DOWNLOAD
    2) Content Disposition: Inline
    This will be achieved with it:
