Distributed transaction hangs thread

Hi,
          I am using WL8.1 sp3,
          And am using a transaction across two servers.
          The first invokes 2 EJBs on the other, one that updates a db (Oracle 9i, thin xa driver), and the other sends a message to a queue.
          The transaction commits cleanly, but a few hours later a see this message in the transaction initiator server:

          And this in the participant server:

          A thread dump showed both servers are stuck on some oracle xa resource.
          Has anyone expirienced such an issue before?

    I am using oracle wcf adapter to connect to oracle to insert.
    I am getting the ORA-01591: lock held by in-doubt distributed transaction.
    Any ideas as to what could be the resolution. I have followed the below mentioned steps. but that's not a permanent solution.
    Please advice.
    The resolution described below is not acceptable and never should have been used.  Although it does avoid the error, it's not okay to turn off AmbientTransaction when performing inserts

    This error is encountered by many DBA's and cause problem by locking the distributed transaction process, and not letting the query go through, because the Two - Phase Commit Mechanism got an error somewhere.
    he DBA should query the pending_trans$ and related tables, and attempt to repair network connection(s) to coordinator and commit point.
    Here are some codes to help you through the process:
    This one brings in-doubt transactions:
    select * from DBA_2PC_PENDING where state='prepared'
    This one prepares the rollback script for the transactions:

  • Distributed transactions/jdbc problem WL60

              Our company has aworking application running on WLS5.1sp9.
              Im in the process of migrating it to WL6.0sp2.
              Our domain has 2 clusters each running 2 servers:
              1) servlet engines (handling http requests from clients, running servlets
              and jsp's)
              2) ejb containers (runnigour entities and session beans, working with Oracle
              8i database using connection pool and TxDataSource)
              The scenario:
              - a client request invokes a servlet on one of the servlet engines.
              - the servlet opens a jndi context to one of the ejb containers
              - the servlet open a transaction on a UserTransaction stub on that ejb.
              - then the servlet calls an entity bean using a home interface looked up
              using the same context.
              - the entity bean uses DataSource lookup in its own servers jndi to rerieve
              a connection.
              and then i get the following exception:

              However the error happens on the other ejb server 10.0.0.33:7007
              It seems that the jts driver tries to get a remote connection on the server
              that coordinates the transaction but uses the deprecated t3 driver.
              I hope someone can help us since this problem is a good enough reason for us
              not moving on to WL6.0 we also looked at WL6.1 Beta and theres nothing new
              about it either.

  • Distributed transactions, distributed objects

    An observation and a conjecture about distributed transactions
    and distributed object references:
    Distributed non-service object references are persistent, and
    a transaction can, in principle, propagate to the distributed
    object through a method call from another partition.
    However, in order to make the transaction propagate to the
    object's partition the object must also have the
    isTransactional attribute set to TRUE. The Fort&eacute; runtime
    system apparently uses the isTransactional property not only
    for rollback of a distributed object's state, but also to
    indicate whether it is desired that transactions propagate to
    the object's partition. Thus, the behavior of a distributed
    object reference with respect to distributed transactions can
    be controlled by the value of the isTransactional attribute
    in the same way that the behavior of an environment-visible
    service object with respect to distributed transactions can
    be controlled by the dialog duration.

  • Distributed transactions with container-managed MDBs

              I have built a framework that employs a high rate of code reuse while abstracting
              the complexities of inter-application communication. This allows application
              developers to focus on solving their business needs and not worry about "the plumbing"
              between the applications.
              At this point, the framework is using container-managed MDBs for Topic destinations.
              MDBs were chosen because of their concurrent nature for processing JMS messages.
              Now that I have this framework up and running, I am trying to add distributed
              transaction support and am having trouble understanding what I need to do. Here
              is how the framework works:
              The MDB will recieve a message, unmarshall it into a business object, and then
              route that object to the appropriate business class where it is then processed
              accordingly. In most cases, the processing of this message object will require
              database interaction. If any error should occur while processing the message,
              all XAResources within the transaction should rollback and ultimately, the JMS
              message will be redelivered later.
              Here is what I'm trying to find out:
              1. When control is passed to an application and it gets a DB connection, will
              that DB resource be dynamically enlisted with the transaction?
              2. Must the DB connection come from the WLS DB pool to be enlisted with the transaction?
              I ask this because the current standard at this company is to use a home-grown
              DB connection pool for getting DB connections. This is due to the fact that not
              all applications here run in a WLS environment and they wanted a standard way
              of retrieving a DB connection across applications. They also sited problems with
              WLS 4.5.1 connection pool.
              3. The documentation states that only one database may be involved in a transaction.
              If a connection to another database is required, but not needed in the current
              transaction, will WLS ignore enlisting the 2nd DB resource, or throw an exception?
              4. Where can I find <B>detailed</B> information about this subject? Everything
              that I have read so far has barely scratched the surface for this specific topic.

              Hi Bob,
              If you are using WLS's XA connection pool, then the XAResource associated with
              the XA connections are enlisted with the transaction transparently for you. Enlistments
              actually occur not at getConnection, but on demand when the JDBC objects are actually
              used.
              If you are not using WLS connection pools, then you would need to enlist the XAResource
              associated with the XA connections yourself. You can obtain the transaction associated
              with the current thread by calling weblogic.transaction.TxHelper.getTransaction(),
              and then call enlistResource on the transaction.
              Weblogic has provisions that allow one (and only one) non-XA connection pool to
              participate in a distributed transaction. In this case, you will get a SQLException
              when you try to obtain a connection from a second connection pool in the same
              distributed transaction. However, if you are using real XA connection pools,
              there is no limitation and any number of XA connection pools can participate in
              the same distributed transaction.
              We will try to incorporate more info in our online docs in the future.

  • Running Distributed Transactions in RAC without DTP service.

    We just switched over to our standby database this morning which we had setup to facilitate our ASM migration. The switchover went smooth and the standby is up and running now as my primary.
    This is a 2 node rac on linux itanium 10.2.0.3.
    I got the following message in the alert log on both instances and I have never seen this message before in my original clustrer?
    Running Distributed Transactions in RAC without DTP service.
    Is this a reason ofr concern?

    EJB transaction hanging over VPN connection
    I am trying to diagnose a problem that only occurs when I am doing testing from home and connected via VPN to work.
    We are using WL 10.3. Our clusters are setup to communicate via multicast. We have a stateless session bean that uses many different resources (Sybase DB, other EJBs, Sonic JMS). I have a local EJB on my home network that I am testing and it connects with other EJBs and resources on my corporate network. While I don't think it is related to the problem, there is a cluster of the same EJB I am trying to test deployed to my corporate environment. i.e. I am testing ResetService EJB and there is a deployed domain cluster of several ResetService EJBs in the environment I am connecting to. My local server and admin domain are named differently than the one deployed and my local ejb shouldn't try to connect to the cluster in the environment.
    When I make a call into my local ejb everything seems to work as expected until it gets to the commit part of the transaction (after my ejb returns). At this point the executing thread hangs at the following location

This only seems to happen when I am connected via VPN because when I try this same setup connected directly to my corporate network at work it works fine.
    I connected w/ debugger and tried to dig. Some interesting observations I see are.
    1) The ServerTransactionImpl object that is hanging has a 'preferredHost' of a different machine on my corporate network. It is an EJB that my service got some information from but it wasn't involved in any create, update, or delete aspects of the tran so in theory it shouldn't be part of it. Does anyone know what exactly this peferredHost attribute is signifying? I also see this same remote ejb server reference defined in a ServerCoordinatorDescriptor variable.
    2) I also sometimes see other XA resources (JMS) with this ServerTransactionImpl that point to references of resources that live on other machines on my corporate network (not my local ejb). This doesn't always seem to be the case though.
    VPN will definetly block multicast packets from the corporate env back to my machine. I don't think it works from my machine to the corporate env machines either.
    I also have two IPs when connected over VPN. One for my local home network and one given to me by my VPN client. I have setup my local WL server to listen on the VPN client provided IP which the corporate machines should be able to resolve and send TCP message over.
    This definetly seems to be transaction related because when I remove the tran support from my ejb things work as expected. The problem is I need to test within the transaction just like it runs in a deployed environment so this isn't really a fix.
    My theory: My local test WL EJB is waiting for a communication from some other server before it can commit the tran. This communication is blocked due to my VPN connection. I just don't know what exactly it is trying to communicate and how to resolve if that is in fact the problem. I thought about looking into unicast rather than multicast for cluster communication but in my mind that doesn't come into play here because I am not deploying a local cluster for my EJB and I thought multicast was just used for inter-cluster communication.
    I also saw some docs talking about resources need to be uniquely named when inter-domain communication is performed (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs81/ConsoleHelp/jta.html#1120356).
    Anyone have any thoughts on what might be going on?

  • ORA-01591: lock held by in-doubt distributed transaction 206.77.12171

    I am having this type of ORA error. I have tried to look at the PENDING_TRANS$ as said in most threads but there is no record found. I have asked our DBA team if there was any locked transactio but they said that there was none. I have also read from another thread that this is a bug and there is a patch available to fix this but that patch is not available for Orace10g. By the way, I have Oracle 10g as my database.
    Anyone who have an idea to fix this? Thanks in advance

    this scenario generally arises during distributed transactions.may be transaction at the local or distributed site is not committed or roll backed.Try to commit the transaction at your side and ask the DBA at remote site to commit the transaction or roll back the transaction

    the distributed transaction has 2n transactions branches and involves n oracle DBMSs (oracle)
    and has the following form:
    -connects to n DBMSs,
    for each,
    send a read sql statement, get a resultset consisting of one record
    do some processing on the attributes
    send an update sql statement of the same record

    I have been looking for other people experiences on using global/distributed transactions around there for some days. For my surprise, I could not find so much forum posts and e-mail threads on google. Even searching this forum directly there is nothing about people using global/distributed transactions.
    Well, I just would like to get some feedback yours about this missing of records about people using this feature of J2EE. I mean, I feel three major reasons for this:
    1) I have been searching for the wrong keywords or in the wrong places;
    2) This is a feature that is ultra rarely used on critical applications;
    3) People do use global/distributed transactions on their applications and they work exactly as expected and people don't have the need to exchange ideas about it on forums and groups.
    That's it. Actually we are debating about the pros and cons of using global/distributed transactions in our application. We are still choosing between keep all the DB schemas in the same database instance (this is an alternative to us), and thus using a single resource, or agreeing with our organization's rules and keep each schema on a different database instance (or even phisical machines) and bring global/distributed transactions to the game.
    Does anyone can have some words about this situation?

    I am not an expert in MSDTC but as we know,SQL Azure Database does not support
    distributed transactions. This means that SQL Azure doesn’t allow Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) to delegate distributed transaction handling.
    One common cause of MSDTC getting involved in Entity Framework applications is the fact that we close and reopen the same connection as needed (i.e. for each query that is executed).To avoid the stack from opening and closing the connection multiple times,
    you can simply open the connection explicitly and run the queries in the same connectio.

    i have no problem before ... but now i want work with multiple database and i wand to manage transactions ... how i understand JTA (Java Transaction Api) is a technology for it.

  • Can not commit distributed transaction

    Hi
    We get error "can not commit distributed transaction" during
    commit the transaction in which we have create NEW entities.
    Update-transactions on existing enitites work correct.
    Our problem is probably due to seauences for object IDs: we are using oracle native sequences:
    <sequence name="SeqErrRecObj" strategy="nontransactional" factory-class="native(Sequence=BUYING.SEQ_ERRRECOBJ)"/>
    As soon we use strategy="nontransactional" in managed environment,
    we get "can not commit distributed transaction" error by creating new instance.
    Switching to strategy="transactional" seems to eleminate this problem.
    I did not found any hint in about this in documentation.
    Can some one confirm our assumption that using nontransactional oracle sequences in manageg (WebLogic 9.2) environment
    is responsible for "can not commit distributed transaction" error and "strategy=transactional" is the right solution.
    Probably we are completely wrong and tehre is some other explanation for this error ?

    Hi Andre,
    It sounds like you have not configured a non-transactional datasource. See section "4.2.1. Managed and XA DataSources" in the <kodo>/docs/jdo/pdf/manual.pdf. Connection is for the managed datasource and Connection2 for the non-transactional.
