DLink Wireless Router Options

Hi folks. Question about DLink routers I've had for some time.
I have a DLink 624 Wireless Router. It offers me 3 options for the wireless connection to my Macs. I have Airport Extreme cards in all of them, and I want to optimize my connection speeds. I'm having trouble connecting using WPA2, but the recent firmware upgrade by DLink said they fixed that. I've had some success with my new MacBook, but she's not working at the moment.
So...I've tried the following and they don't seem to want to work:
Super G with Dynamic Turbo: Doesn't work
Super G without Turbo: Doesn't work
Disabled: Works (more below)
Using MenuMeters (third party application, allows me to view network throughput), I can see I can get 1.6 MB/s incoming from my G5 to my MacBook. For 54 Mbps (Airport Extreme) this is pretty slow. Now, the G5 is going to the router via Ethernet (Gigabit, or Fast Ethernet), so the only wireless transmission is (essentially) from the DLink to my MacBook.
Now I know I have had faster speeds out of this router. Anybody have any ideas what I can do to speed this up?
Cheers

Hi Frangelica,
To upgrade the firmware of the DLink, you don't need to open the file... I can't believe DLink support couldn't tell you that!
Here is how to do it:
You have rev D, and mine is rev C so maybe the navigation pane is different.
Login the router at 192.168.0.1 in your browser.
Go to the Tools tab, then click on Firmware.
You should see a Browse button that will let you locate the Firmware upgrade file you downloaded. Click on it and navigate to the file. Then click Apply.
Do not upgrade while using a wireless connection. If the connection is dropped while upgrading, it could mess your router for good.
You can check the full instructions for firmware upgrade on DLink website here:
http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=966&question=General-Routers
Maybe this firmware upgrade will solve your dropped connections and download speed issues. I don't use revD, but my revC started to have problems AFTER the upgrade and I had to downgrade to the one I was using before. From now on, if I don't have anything to fix, I won't upgrade! If your problem is worse after the upgrade and you have trouble reverting to an older firmware, post back and I'll give you a hand.
Good luck!

  • HT4145 Can I link up a Dlink wireless router to a Airport Base Station

    Hi All,
need advise on whether can I link up a Dlink wireless router to a Airport Base Station and if can how do I set it up.
    with regards and thank you
    Chris

If your goal is to either extend the D-Link's Wi-Fi network with the AirPort or the other way around, then the answer is no. That is because, most non-Apple routers are not WDS-compatible with the AirPorts.

  • How to hookup AE to dlink wireless router hardwired to computer??

    Guys,
I have a computer that is hooked up directly to a dlink wireless router. I bought the router specifically to communicate with AE. I cannot find any network to join. Will a setup like this work?
Or do I need to just go back and buy a wireless card for my computer?

The ethernet port on an AX is only active and usable for an external device when the AX joins a network using the WDS protocol. WDS only works with AEBS, AX, and a limited number of third-party wireless routers. Without buying a WDS compatible router, you will need an ethernet to wireless bridge like the Linksys WET54G, or a wireless card for your computer.

    Good afternoon,
As per your post, your home user is having issues with the D-Link product, not the Cisco products. This forum serves to provide technical and presales support for Cisco devices only.
I did take the time to locate the free support number for the D-Link products: 1-877-453-5465
In light of all of this, I am glad to hear your Cisco access points seem to be working well!

  • Macbook pro can't connect to Dlink wireless router

    Hi,
I just bought a new MacBook pro and found it can't connect to my office wireless router Dlink.
I can't get a proper IP address from DHCP.  Now I have to go wired.
But some other routers I can connect to.
is this the driver problem? is this a known issue?
    Please help!

The dlink router is using latest firmware.
I had once connected to it for couple minutes and failed.

  • Wireless router options for new mixed Mac and PC wireless network

I just acquired a second-hand dell laptop, and want to move from no network to wireless g/n network based on cable modem which include the iMac. This network must also accomodate a business only Dell laptop running XPsp2 (of which I have no adminstrator rights) and VPN software. I need to share a HP laserjet 3030 3n1 printer.
In reading these and other forums, my choices seem to be:
    1. buy Airport Extreme base station for easy connect to the imac, and more difficult connection to both Dells, particularly since I can't install Bonjour on the business laptop, or
    2. buy D-Link/Linksys wireless router and cards, set up a Windows based network, and then make the Mac connect.
Because of the mixed network, both approaches seem to have difficulties with communication, high security, reliable printing. All of these are critical for the business computer.
Any suggestions on the more likely route to success?
Cable modem is a 4 yr old Toshiba with 10baseT. What happens when this is connected to a Gigabit router? should I also plan to upgrade the modem?
    Thanks

Hello umpire318. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Based on your requirements, it appears that the Dell laptop will be the deciding factor to which router you should go with. Since you will need to make administrative changes to the Dell in order to configure it to work with the AirPorts, you're most likely have "less hassles" going with a non-AirPort router.

  • D110 will connects to my Dlink wireless router, but will not print

First, I have changed the settings on the Dlink to WAP2 from WEP. This at least allowed the printer to successfully connect to my network. However, the printer does not show in my Network Places.  When I try to print, the document sits in the queue.  In control panel it shows as offline. Also, the wireless button on the printer will only light once in a while when it press it, and the LCD display seems to be stuck on Languages only.
The printer does work if I use the USB connection, but that's not what I want. Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks.
    This question was solved.

You should not have to nor should you use WEP.  It is not secure.  If you cannot connect to your router, try this first before changing from WPA2:
    1. Make sure your router has updated firmware and a fresh reboot.
    2. Make sure you are broadcasting your SSID and not using MAC filtering.
    3. Make sure 802.11g is present and set it to use channel 1 or 11.
If that does not work, change from WPA2 to WPA.  Do not use WEP.

  • Differing connection speeds dlink wireless router

So my router is set up for G+ speeds and my roomates' Dell inspiron and my macbook pro santa rosa connect at 54mbps while my other roommate connects at 108mbps with his toshiba, what can I do? it's the same for me in windows and mac os, so I know it's not mac os doing it. Is there any way to change the speed I connect at? Atheros wireless was supposed to be top notch but I can't get the speeds yet, I'm about to go out and get a new wireless n router to see if I can connect at N speeds if I can't find a solution for this.
    Any help would be great.
p.s. I can't get specific model numbers right now, but all firmware and software is up to date

It's not going to be particularly useful to seek help with a D-Link product here. To be sure, some Mac owners use these routers, but without specific knowledge of that particular model, it would really only be possible to give you broad and general advice on it.
You might, therefore, find a better line of assistance at the D-Link site (http://www.dlink.com/) and from the instructions/user guide for your specific device. If you don't have the instruction/user guide for your device, you should be able to access it there.
That said, having used a D-Link 604 for some time, and not had any issue with setting security, I'd be surprised if your unit were not capable of this. In the security screen when you access the router, there should be a button to save or confirm changes which you need to click once you have set the security type (WPA is more secure than WEP) and the required password.
Likewise, with MAC address filtering, though beware that when setting this, you will need to specify the MAC address of your system (specifically the interface you use to connect it, so if wifi, the MAC of the system's wireless card) at the outset, otherwise once set, you won't be allowed access to change it!
D-Link user guides are not the best written in the world, but are reasonably easy to follow.

Welcome to BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Do you have a BlackBerry data plan with your wireless service provider? You may want to verify with them that you have the correct data services enabled.

  • Extending Wireless Network with Airport Express / DLink Wireless

I have a DLink wireless router WBR-1310. I own two Airport Express 802.11n's. Can anyone help me out with how I can properly set-up an extended network with these products? All help is greatly appreciated.

You would need one AirPort Express located near the D-Link router and connected to the D-Link with an ethernet cable. This Express would be configured to "create a wireless network" and "allow this network to be extended"
If you have two areas that need more wireless coverage, you would locate an AirPort Express approximately 1/2 the distance between the "main" AirPort Express and the area that needs more wireless coverage.
Then do the same with the second area that needs more coverage.
Without knowing your room layout, I can't honestly tell you whether you need only one "extending" Express or more than that.
It will help to remember that the "extend" setup works like the hub and spokes of a wheel. Your "main" Express connected to the D-Link would be the "hub". Each of the "extending" Express devices would be at the end of a spoke. The Express devices at the ends of the spokes communicate directly to the hub, not to another Express at the end of another spoke.
So, to work well, hopefully your D-Link router and Express will be located in a central area of your home so the extending devices will work around the perimeter.
I would recommend that you study Apple's support document on extending wireless networks before you make a final decision on what to do.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4145
Finally, consider if you can connect the two Express devices you have now back to the D-Link using ethernet cables. This would provide much better performance than a wireless only situation.

  • Airport express connection to existing DLink wireless network & old iMac

I have an old iMac (G4 800 mhz). I don't want to buy an old Airport card -- would rather connect to my existing wireless (DLink) network with an Airport Express. Is this possible? Can I go from my cable modem to my DLink wireless router to an Airport Express AND from the Airport Express to my old iMac with an 10/100 Base T Ethernet connection? Essentially will the Airport Express act like an external Airport card? Thanks for any help you can provide... gmosfd

I bought the old version Airport on line -- the new one will not work with this model of iMac, bummer!

  • Need to buy a wireless router that is compatible with 10.4.11 and macbook pro, and pc. Current Airport Extreme not a compatible option. Please help with suggestions.

Any mid range options would be helpful. Thank your.

You can set up and administer the Airport Extreme from any computer, Mac or PC. The only requirement is the version of Airport Utility appropriate for the OS, in order to accomplish its initial configuration. For Tiger, it's the one I linked.
Apparently the "chat" participant simply read from Apple's web page. Anyone can do that
Client operating systems are meaningless to the Airport itself (or any other wireless router).
Linksys made fine products before Cisco bought them. Cisco is focused on large corporate deployments, not small users - abandonment of the Flip is evidence of that. Their individual consumer support is horrible.

  • Airport Express 802.11n and Dlink N wireless router

Problem: Unable to connect Airport Express N to Dlink N router
I have a Dlink G router and an Airport Express G in connected to that wireless network for a couple of years. I bought a new DlinkN router. I have been unable to connect the Airport Express G. I read many posts on this topic and concluded that I needed a new Airport Express N. I got one. I could connect both Airport Express G and N to the Dlink G router.
I tried to connect the Airport Express N to the Dlink N router. I get to the stage where it says the settings on the Airport have been successfully changed and to wait for the Airport Express to restart. The amber light keeps flashing. It never goes green. I have reset the Dlink router and the Airport Express N many times with no success. I even tried to connect the Airport Express N to the Dlink N router with wire and tried to reset it. It did not work either. There appears to be some problem connecting a Dlink N router to Airport Express N.
Does any body have a similar prolem or a solution?
Thanks for any help. In the mean time I will keep using the Dlink G router which works fine.
    Raj Warreir

More than likely the problem is with the Dlink N router. I have no problem connecting a D link g router and Airport Xpress G and N. I had to replace the Dlink N with the G due to the above issue.

  • How do I connect my HP Laserjet 1102w directly to a Linksys AE3500 wireless router with USB option?

I am trying to connect an HP Laserjet 1102w directly to an HP desktop model a172n with Windows Vista Home Premium OS (32 bit) through a new Linksys AE3500 dual band wireless router which has a USB port for a direct connection. The desktop can see the wireless router but not the printer.
Is there a work around, a printer installer update, or some other solution that enables me to connect the desktop to the printer via the USB connection on the wireless router? I need to have one wireless laptop and one non-wireless desk computer able to use the one printer.
    Thanks for any assistance!

    hi there,
It seems as though this situation will require the Cisco connect software to function properly. Check out this article from the cisco knowledge base. It has the step by step setup specific to your case. Let us know if this helps or if you have already been through these steps.
    Best of Luck!
