Dns cache error

The connection cannot be completed because the remote computer that was reached is not the one you specified. This could be caused by an outdated entry in the DNS cache. Try using the IP address of the computer instead of the name.
We have done and IPconfig flush and register on client machines?

Hi,
Make sure the time on the target server is accurate. It has to be within 5 minutes, if the client and server (whatever two machines are authenticating, whether DC to DC, member server to DC or client, or client to DC), if the clocks are off more than five
(5) minutes, the authentication sequence fails. To insure that all clients' clocks are within the five (5) minute skew, the time service must be synched across the infrastructure.
PDC role owner in forest root domain should be configured as an Authorative time server.

Some time the issue occurs, if RD Server is configured for secure connections using TLS and TLS is not supported at the client (source machine) attempting the RDP connection, see this KB :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2493594 and sometime issue occurs due to DNS, see this thread:

I ran into this exact issue today. Our secondary domain controller is a Hyper-V guest, and despite it being initially configured to point to the primary domain controller as its time source, it reverted to its system clock. (Yes, I followed all
MS documentation regarding configuring time on a virtual domain controller) Its time clock drifted nearly twelve minutes into the future. Oddly enough, restarting the 'machine' corrected the issue. It is now showing the correct configuration when I run
w32tm /query /source.
Once that issue was corrected I could now RDP to any member server or client on the network using its hostname.

• Flushing the DNS cache

I'm having trouble with a Web site when I access it on my home computer, yet this same site looks fine on my Mini at work. One section of the index page generates a "can't find server" error, and the site's own logo won't display properly. It is a free hosting site. Sometimes I can upload files to it, other times I get a can't-find-server error when I try.
In answer to my query about this (to which I helpfully attached a screenshot of the incompletely loaded index page and its error messages), the host is telling me that I should "flush my DNS cache," which they say involves going into Terminal and giving the command "ookupd -flushcache" [sic]. (I've already surfed this briefly and the first result confirmed my suspicion that this doofus hasn't mastered copy-and-paste technique and the command actually should be "lookupd- flushcache".)
It's not just that their site doesn't load fully, though. They have some stuff on one of their pages that they encourage users to hotlink on personal Web sites, and I have done that with one of their banners. The banner, which was fine for months, now appears on my page as a broken icon, too, although it, like the site's home page, loads fine on my computer at work.
My first question is, is there any harm in flushing the DNS cache? The OS Daily page where I think they copied this advice from makes it sound like this is something only a Web server would need. If I do it on my home machine, could it cause problems? Could it disable my Internet connectivity?
Second, less urgent question, more for the netgeeks out there: Do you think this is a likely solution to my problem? Especially considering that the problem involves not only their site but an element on an external site linking back to them? I hate to play the sucker for some low-level geek whose main mission is to deflect my query.
Thanks
Kathi

Kathi--
Like BDAqua says, there's nothing to worry about flushing the DNS cache. It's true that most people probably don't need to do it very often, but it's something easy and harmless to try, and it might well fix problems like yours.
One handy feature of Safari, even if you don't use it for anything else, is the "Activity" window. Open it from the "View" menu, and watch as your page loads. You can see exactly which components on the page are loading, which aren't and where they should be coming from. If you double-click an element in that list, Safari will try to open it in a new window. That is sometimes enough to give a clue as to why something isn't working.
You can use Safari's activity list along with the Network Utility from your Utilities folder to try to figure out why you're not getting the page elements. Suppose a graphic is listed as coming from http://www.server1.com/images/logo.jpg, but it's not loading.
First thing I would try in the Network Utility is to see if it will respond to pings. From that example, enter "www.server1.com" on the "Ping" page of the Network Utility and see if it answers back.
To find out if it's a DNS problem, you can use Safari's list to get the addresses of the problem elements, then see if the IP addresses match up on your computer at home to the one at work. If they don't, then it could be stale DNS.
You can use the Network Utility for DNS lookups, but I think they're hard to read, and, since you're already thinking about using the Terminal to flush the DNS cache, you can use nslookup. It's really simple:

nslookup www.apple.com

Will give you something like this (the first two lines will likely be different):
Server: 208.67.222.222
Address: 208.67.222.222#53
Non-authoritative answer:
www.apple.com canonical name = www.apple.com.akadns.net.
Name: www.apple.com.akadns.net
Address: 17.251.200.32
If the addresses don't match, or you get a message that it can't find anything for your server, then you know it's a DNS problem. Perhaps they've changed some addresses and your home ISP's DNS servers themselves aren't updating.
You can even use nslookup to see what different DNS servers say about an address. Just add the IP address of a DNS server after the address you want to look up:

nslookup www.apple.com 208.67.220.220

Just do a search on the 'net for free DNS servers, and you'll find a bunch to choose from.

• Queue Problems - 451 4.4.0 DNS Querry Error

Our Current set up:
Server1: Hubtransport, Mailbox Server
Server2: CAS, Hubtransport server
Server3: Exchange 2k3 mailbox server
Our issue is we are unable to send email to a specific domain. It doesn't matter if the person sending the mail is on the 2k7 or 2k3 mailbox server. The queue's last error states: "451 4.4.0 DNS query Failed."
I can however do a NSlookup from the machine, and telnet to their mailservers on port 25 and get a helo response.
I have enabled send connector protocol logging and nothing even shows up in the log about trying to contact this domain.
I am at a loss as to where to look next. How does exchange 2007 handle its DNS resolution. Please help.

That's not a good thing. Did you also flush the DNS cache with
"ipconfig /flushdns" and restart the DNS Client service?
>As for the "get-sendconnector" it believes it is going to {SMTP:*;1}.
Maybe, but it shouldn't be going to ANY send connector. You have just
one Exchange server and the e-mail is purportedly addressed to a domain
in your accepted domains.
So, is 61027a30-e9a9-4c2d-acb5-c1efc96d5d8b your send connector, or

• IronPort DNS Hard Error Lookup (Emails Bouncing)

Hi,
One of our clients running Cisco IronPort ESA is having a challenge sending mails to some local domains (e.g. recipient.co.ke - sample non-existent domain) and keeps getting the error below:
#< #5.0.0 smtp; 5.1.2 - Bad destination host 'DNS Hard Error looking up recipient.co.ke (MX): NXDomain' (delivery attempts: 0)> #SMTP#
Mails to other domains such as gmail.com & yahoo.com are working just fine.
Doing a dnsflush on the ESA temporarily solves the problem but it keeps recurring. Note that the client is able to receive mails from the same domains they can't send to.
The ESA appliance is able to do nslookups to the same domains.
Has anybody else experienced this challenge and how did you solve it?
Regards,
Emmon.

Check whether you're using a local DNS server or already on root dns server.
VIA GUI
GUI > Network > DNS
Click on the radio button to use internet root DNS servers.
VIA CLI:
C370.lab> dnsconfig
Currently using the local DNS cache servers:
1. Priority: 0 1.1.1.8
Choose the operation you want to perform:
- NEW - Add a new server.
- EDIT - Edit a server.
- DELETE - Remove a server.
- SETUP - Configure general settings.
[]> delete
Do you want to delete a local DNS cache server or an alternate domain server?
1. Delete a local DNS cache server.
2. Delete an alternate domain server.
[]> 1
Currently using the local DNS cache servers:
1. Priority: 0 1.1.1.8
Enter the number of the server you wish to remove.
[]> 1
Note: You have removed the last local nameserver entry. DNS will now use the
Internet root servers.
Currently using the Internet root DNS servers.
No alternate authoritative servers configured.
Choose the operation you want to perform:
- NEW - Add a new server.
- SETUP - Configure general settings.
Then commit the changes if you decide to move to Root DNS.
To check the domain's DNS records (or in your case MX records)
Use the command line.
CLI > nslookup xxx.co.jp mx
It will show you results if any DNS records can be found.
C370.lab> nslookup cisco.com mx
MX=alln-mx-01.cisco.com PREF=10 TTL=1d
MX=rcdn-mx-01.cisco.com PREF=20 TTL=1d

• ARP cache error

We have a SBS 2003 server running with a standard dual network configuration. One card for accessing the internet and the other card to connect the server to the local network.
We frequently lose our internet connection for an unknown reason (although the other card is fine and all client computers are still able to access the server -- they just loose internet access.)
We also receive the 'Clearing the ARP Cache' error message when trying to repair the connection.
However, instead of rebooting the server, we simply go into the Network Connections, locate the card that is for the internet connection, right-click and choose 'Disable', and then after it is disabled, right-click and choose 'Enable'.

Hi,
Before going further, would you please let me know if you have configured RRAS on your server? Based on your description, the problem can be caused if you are using RRAS as your basic firewall/NAT.
Please try the following suggestions to see if the problem can be resolved.
1. Firstly, we should make sure whether the network setting is correctly and properly configured. Please re-run CEICW Wizard on the SBS Server, it helps us automatically configure the network
settings, you can refer to this step-by-step article to finish the wizard:
How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825763/en-us
2. Please double check if you have correctly configured your DNS settings.
a. Leave the Default Gateway of the internal NIC blank on the SBS Server.
b. Configure both the internal NIC and the external NIC to use the internal DNS Service as the DNS Server.
c. On the DNS Server, create the DNS Forwarder to forward the external DNS resolution requests to the ISP's DNS
d. On the DNS Server, delete any public IP that is being registered in the local DNS.
3. Type "arp -d *" (without the quotation mark) from the command prompt. Then try repairing the network card again. If error still occurs, please turn to step 4.
4. Try turning off the "Routing and Remote Access" service, it can cause this problem.
a. Click Start->Run, type "services.msc", go and find "Routing & Remote Access", right click it and choose Properties.
b. Set start-up type to disabled and stop the service.
c. Then restart the computer which is mandatory in this case.
d. Try repairing the network card again, any luck?
If the problem persists, please help me gather the following information:
1. Does everything work normally before? If so, what changes have you made to the server/clients before the problem occurred?
2. Make sure that you uncheck "register this connections in DNS" check box from external NIC.
3. Confirm the connection binding order.
a. Please open Control Panel -> network connections.
b. Click Advanced -> Advanced settings
c. In the adapters and bindings tab, make sure that the internal adapter is on the top.

• DNS Cache location?

I'm just curious where OS X Server 10.6 stores its DNS cache or if there is a Terminal command I can use to display all of the caches from my network.
Thanks!

Check the system logs. See if there's an error on that end indicating any additional details of the problem. (The management port access is understandably restricted.)
This might require setting up /etc/rndc.conf by running rndc-confgen - have a look at the bind9 documentation and at the man pages for rndc and rndc.conf and rndc-confgen and Google around - and this will allow you to authenticate into the management port of the DNS server.
It's also rare that there's a need to flush the DNS caches.

• DNS caching problem when configuring Windows clients for SCAN

I have a Windows 2008 R2 server running apps that connect to a RAC cluster database using the SCAN address. The SCAN address however always returns the same IP when you ping it from that server. If I flush the DNS cache I get a different address, but again the same one all the time. I believe this is caused by the fact that DNS caching is enabled on Windows by default. This has caused problems when one of the RAC nodes goes south and the cached SCAN IP is not responding. The applications lose their connections, try to reconnect, but can't because they keep using the same dead SCAN IP.
I suggested we disable the DNS Client service on those machines so that the SCAN name correctly cycles through the addresses but the Windows admin says not to do this. Is there a documented practice somewhere that this is OK to do for Windows RAC clients? Or is there a way to disable caching just on the SCAN name but leave it enabled from every other host name?
TIA

What happened was the SCAN VIP did not fail over. The node VIP did not fail over. The database instance was running but I could not connect to it even locally as sysdba. I got the message "protocol adapter error". This normally only occurs on Windows for local connections when either (a) the Oracle service is not running, or (b) you didn't set the ORACLE_SID variable correctly. Neither was true.
I tried "crsctl stop crs" but it could not stop the listeners.
I rebooted the server. During the reboot, neither the VIP no SCAN VIPs failed over. It's almost as if CRS either didnt recognize tat the other node had been shutdown, or it didn't care.
I have never seen this happen before.
For the record this is Oracle RAC 11.2.0.1.

• Install cache error

I'm trying to install itunes 10.6 on windows 7 home premium. it downloads the software and starts to install. I receive an error: "an error occurred while attempting to create the directory c:/program data/apple/installer cache" I click retry several times and no luck so I have to click cancel and it rollsback the installation. I have downloaded a new copy of the installer from another computer and receive the same error. I dropped the UAC on the system to none. That did not work, it give me the same error. I have tried renaming the Installer Cache to a temp name and when installing again, I the error says it doesn't have the permissions to create the directory. I have gone into the control panel and attempted to repair bonjour, itunes, apple mobile device support, apple software update and quicktime and all of them have reported "The system cannot find the file specified." I have tried running the install package with the right click Run as Administrator and the install cache error still occurs. I have check the security on the file and it has my user name and full control on the parent and all items below.
When I plug in my iphone or ipod, it asks about updating to 5.1, I click download only. I then receive an error window "There was a problem downloading the software for the iphone or ipod. The network connection could not be established"
I don't know if the two problems are related. I'm at a stand still have have no other ideas of what to try next. What suggestions might you have to solve this problem?
Thanks for the help!
Joel

I tried to rename the apple computer folder to _old and I received another error with another really funky folder name that looked like a SID. I renamed that and reran.
Crikey. Probably that number (in the folder name) was the SQUID ("squished GUID") for the iTunes installation (or possibly one of the other associated components being installed). In addition to the error 5, that brings us to a total of three of the more exotic things that could possibly happen in this sort of file-access-problem context.
So, excellent work on your part getting past all that. Many thanks for reporting back with your resolution, too.

• Cache error message in Adobe Bridge CS6

I am continuing to get a cache error message despite purging the cache several time on different occassion via the Preferences. Adobe Bridge now seems to be frozen on Building Criteria. The platform I am using iMac OSX 10.8.5. I have rebooted the machine a couple of times to no avail. Any advice

If Windows, search your event viewer for something like "The device \Device\Ide\iaStore0 did not respond within the timeout period." Since this
is kind of a hardware issue, there might be a similar thing happening on MACs. If you see this warning check what driver you are using for Intel
Rapid Storage Technology. I was using version 10.x and the latest from Intel is 12.x. Intel cautions you not to use this updated driver without
checking with the system manufacturer, which in my case, Asus, maintained that 10.x was the latest approved driver. I installed the 12.x driver
directly from Intel despite the warning, and the problem seems to have been resolved. I post in case this gives someone else a clue to solve
this nagging problem.
Oh, this might be particularly significant if you have recently installed a larger hard disk.

• URGENT Bridge and cache error photo corrupted NEED HELP

We were going to edit a photo and upon opening it and error came up and said: "edit bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. please try purging the central cache in cache peferences to correct situation"
We solved the cache problem by purging it but the photo is corrupted! Furthermore, the photo turned red and 1/3 of the photo has been mysteriously turned black! It only briefly returns to normal after cache problem in adobe bridge. It turns normal but only for a split second!!! WE NEED THIS PHOTO RESTORED TO ORIGINAL CONDITION BEFORE THE CACHE ERROR.
Thank you for help

Your photo may be lost, I'm sorry to say.
Check your Windows System Event log and look for disk errors. Disks do fail, and if there have been unrecoverable errors you'll see them in the event log.
A failing disk is not something to be left alone. I hope you have a recent backup - if not, make one right away, then replace any failing disk drive ASAP, or you chance losing more data. I always recommend high-reliability enterprise class disk drives such as Western Digital RE4. They're not that much more expensive, and lost data can be worth a lot.

• Firefox 5 seems to cache error redirects.

Firefox 5 seems to cache error redirects. If for example I get redirected to a 404 then fix the problem with the site, it will still redirect me to the 404.

Try to Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache.
* Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
* Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
* Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)

• How do I remove a DNS Solution Error? Sometimes when I do a search using a Firefox browser, this message comes up and it doesn't take me to the site I am looking for.

Sometimes I use Firefox for browsing and when I do a search, the search engine will not take me to the site but I get a message that says "DNS Solution Error".
I believe it is some kind of malware. I appreciate any help from anyone who knows how to fix it.

You may have installed a malicious or defective Firefox extension. Remove all extensions that you don't know you need. If in doubt, remove all of them. Otherwise, check the Firefox network settings (not the Network pane in System Preferences) for a proxy server.

• Clear DNS cache

How can I clear the DNS cache?
When I configure my webserver and change the records, I have to wait the time configured in the ttl of the specific record. I know, that I can change the ttl to a lower value, but the default value is 3 hours, so i have to wait until the time's up.
I checked the DNS records with dig (from dnsutils). dig also shows the remaining seconds until the next refresh (dns server request). And here's my question: How can I refresh it manually? (tried a lot from the internet, but nothing helped)
Thank you guys!

brebs wrote:Woah right there. Why do you need to *change* the records? Shouldn't happen often.
Other than the answer stated (to test DNS settings), you might want to change records for a (self-hosted) DynDNS service. If you want a device to updated its DNS entries while being connected to a shaky cellular network, those changes might occur frequently with changing IPs.
To the original poster: You should always set the TTL to a reasonable setting. If you didn't change the record for the last two years, then maybe a TTL of several hours (or even a day) might be OK. If you want to be able to react more quickly to emergency situations, set it lower. For a DynDNS service, TTLs below a minute might be appropriate.
If you want to test your DNS Server, you can always query it directly (bypassing your ISP's DNS servers) with a command like this (where 1.2.3.4 is the IP of your nameserver):
dig @1.2.3.4 your.entry.example.com
This will usually show you the new settings right after changing.
