DNS error in publicView.conf.apple

hi
I'm working on a xserve with leopard server 10.5.3.
I found un error in console log that is:
+/etc/dns/publicView.conf.apple:1: undefine ACL 'ex.example.com'+
+load configuration: failure+
exiting
+(org.isc.named[number] throttling reswap: will start in 10 seconds+
this is the error...
and I see it each 10 second in console log
I try to run some command on dns with the result "repair dns and re-run..."
With this error, that I can see in Console log, I have found that SMB don't work well.
anyone have the fix?
thanks a lot

I am referring to the string straight after the zone statement in the view in publicView.conf.apple - so if my domain is your.fqdn.com I'd expect to see:
zone "your.fqdn.com" IN { type master; file "db.your.fqdn.com"; };
What I am seeing is:
zone "your.fqdn.com." IN { type master; file "db.your.fqdn.com."; };
The contents of the zone file are correct - I have no problem with that.

  • DNS GUI adding trailing . to zone name in publicView.conf.apple

I tried setting up the DNS on a newly installed OS X Server 10.5.1 installation. I have a working server on a Debian installation that I want to transfer to OS X Server. Server Admin seems to insist that the zone name given to the zone statement in publicView.conf.apple is a FQDN complete with trailing fullstop. This causes lookups to fail that work fine on the Debian installation. As a work-around I have manually edited publicView.conf.apple (even though I know I shouldn't) to remove the trailing fullstop in the zone name.
Am I correct in thinking that this is a bug in the DNS GUI? Or have I misunderstood something? Is there a better work around?

No experiences here with that exact combination.
    Something general:
Make sure access rights on the application support folder are correctly set for the user account that you're using to launch InDesign.
Run the OSX repair privileges utility.
Compare the general folder structure to your desktop installation, or the earlier installation (replacing an old hardware?).
    If that fails:
Launch the application from within Instruments (which comes with the optional installation of developer tools, e.g. XCode)
Trace file access and watch out for error results.

What you to do is to pick up the telephone and call AppleCare, you have 90 days of free AppleCare telephone support with a new Mac. I'm not sure where you are located but if you use the link below you will be able to find the telephone number for your country.

  • Intermittent "Cannot find server or dns error"

We are getting "Cannot find server or dns error" intermittently. It happens most frequently using internet explorer on https. Anyone else getting this or have any suggestions?
(I have logged as TAR 1525537.999)
    null

After many, many hours or research and corresponding with other
Oracle resources, we resolved the issue. We still receive the
"Cannot find server or DNS error" but with much, much less
    frequency.
    Here are the complete details:
    Environment:
    Windows NT 4.0 SP 6
    Oracle 9iAS 1.0.2.2
    Oracle 9iAS Portal 3.0.9.8.0
    Oracle 8i Database 8.1.7.0.0
    Apache HTTP Server: 1.3.19 (win32)
    mod_ssl: 2.8.1
    OpenSSL: 0.9.5a
    SSL port: 443
    Problem:
We were running into the following error intermittently (but very
frequently) when accessing pages in the Oracle Portal application
    with SSL enabled:
"Cannot find server or DNS error" at the bottom of a "Page cannot
    be displayed" error page.
    Resolution:
7 Applied patchset for Oracle8i 8.1.7.1.1 (to database client and
    server)
7 Applied patchset for Oracle8i 8.1.7.1.5 (to database client and
    server)
7 Applied patchset for Oracle Portal 3.0.9.8.1
7 Implemented solution for Oracle Bug No. 1822053 (HTTP 404 Doing
Portal Development) by changing (and un-commenting) the following
line in our Apache http.conf file:
    From: #SetEnvIf User-Agent ".*MSIE.*" nokeepalive
    ssl-unclean-shutdown
    To: SetEnvIf User-Agent ".*MSIE.*" ssl-unclean-shutdown
7 Implemented solution for Oracle Bug No. 1821195 (When uploading
large file using modplsql & SSL error reading data from client)
by replacing the existing ApacheModuleSSL.dll file with the
patched file referenced in the bug details.
Note: Bug No. 1821195 is for Oracle9iAS 1.0.2.2. It references
    Bug No. 1773627 for Oracle9iAS 1.0.2.1.
I feel the biggest help was finding out about Bug No.
1821195/1773627. We were provided the bug details by a local
Oracle technical consultant, Dave McMarlin, referred to us by the
Oracle Joint Staff Account Manager. That solved our problem with
receiving the noted error message when we tried to add items to
the content area. Applying the change to the http.conf file
identified by Bug No. 1822053 (removing the nokeepalive entry) in
combination with the Oracle8i and Oracle Portal upgrade seems to
have solved our problems with the other intermittent occurrences
    of the noted error message.
According to the details for the ApacheModuleSSL.dll patch, there
was mention of a bug in the "select" function in Windows NT 4.0:
"When checking a socket, if data can be read without blocking,
select () returns yes, but when actually reading from the socket
with recv(), that function returns WSAEWOULDBLOCK, which says
that reading would block. It seems that this problem does not
occur in usual operation, but only in an SSL enabled Apache
(modssl or apache-ssl) with https. The code for WIN32, which
handles writing to a socket, already contains a workaround for
this. The code for reading from a socket did not have a
    workaround."

  • Airport DNS Errors?

    Hello Community,
As of yesterday my internet has just stopped working. When I visit websites I get the same old, "DNS ERROR" page google chrome always throws up. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is and where it's coming from. Yesterday I went and purchased a new Airport Extreme hoping this would fix it but it's still the same old page. Could it be how I configured the Airport Extreme?
    Thanks,
    Annoyed Apple Customer

Hopefully this may help, this is the error I get:
    This webpage is not available
The server at www.google.com can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the web service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.
    Here are some suggestions:
    this webpage later.
Check your Internet connection. Restart any router, modem, or other network devices you may be using.
Check your DNS settings. Contact your network administrator if you're not sure what this means.
Try disabling network prediction by following these steps: Go to the wrench menu > Preferences > Under the Hood and deselect "Predict network actions to improve page load performance." If this does not resolve the issue, we recommend selecting this option again for improved performance.
Add Google Chrome as a permitted program in your firewall's or antivirus software's settings. If it is already a permitted program, try deleting it from the list of permitted programs and adding it again.
If you use a proxy server, check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working. If you don't believe you should be using a proxy server, adjust your proxy settings: Go to Applications > System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxies and deselect any proxies that have been selected.
Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): Unable to resolve the server's DNS address.

  • DNS error using Firefox

When I use Firefox to try and open a page that is on a Yahoo site, I get a DNS error and the page opens briefly and then goes to another page with alot of unrelated information in browser window.  Can this be fixed?  It doesn't seem to happen with Safari, just Firefox, as far as I can tell.

By the way, I can open Facebook and some links in apple support. I can also open google but when I click on most links, it won't open

  • Intermittent DNS errors

This is a very complicated problem that I have previously searched for but found no solution for. My iMac is connected to a gigabit network and my router. Occasionally the internet will simply stop working on the iMac, although my laptop still has a connection. The network still appears to work, as do file shares. Chrome, Safari and Firefox all say that it is due to a DNS error. I have checked the DNS settings and they are correct. In all three browsers I have cleared the cache, history and cookies. The problem still stays the same. Usually about 24 hours after this happens, the computer will suddenly start working again.

    Try this program 'namebenach'.
    http://code.google.com/p/namebench/
It will tell you the fastest/ best DNS severs to use. Run it and plug in the DNS numbers (3 sets of numbers) into your router that it gives you.

  • Error message received -  Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start  system services.

I've done it 6 times the steps you mention to get this thing to work but still it doesn't work for me. I've downloaded iTunes, installed it, and again the same message it's going on Error message received -  Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start  system services.
I've deleted iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update and Bonjour, restart my computer and downloaded again (6 times) and still doesn't work for me. What should I do?

I deleted all Apple products you mentioned above (iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update and Bonjour), deleted the prior downloads I had previously tried to install and then emptied my recycle bin.  Then I started with a new download of iTunes before the problem was solved for me.
It really ***** that Apple does not give any direct support for its own products.
    Good Luck

    Try the following user tip:
Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates

  • Just installed itunes but when i try to open it this error message pops up: "apple application support required." I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but nothing works

Just installed itunes but when i try to open it this error message pops up: "apple application required" then it suggests uninstalling and reinstalling which i've done a few times but nothing works

When you say you have tried everything, it would help if you told us what you have tried to avoid duplication.
When you installed iTunes did you get any error messages?
Anyway, on the face of it it may be worth trying a separate install of Apple application support.
Uninstall iTunes again. Now open Apple Software update, assuming it is working.
It should offer to download iTunes. Don't do it yet, go to the Tools menu and select Download only.
Then download iTunes. Then go to the tools menu again and select Open download folder and you should see a collection of six files.
Before going on, can you get to this stage OK?
One further thing I would like you to check, are you ahving any problems with Windows updates? Could you check in Windows Update to see if there are any failures.

To use iCloud, you must first set it up with your Apple ID on a device with iOS 5 or a Mac with OS X Lion.

  • I can't connect to Internet anymore (WIFI or Ethernet). This was working perfectly before. I don't get a proper IP address from my ADSL box and it seems there is a DNS error when accessing the Internet.

I have an issue with my MacBook pro (MAC OS X 10.8.3) when trying to access Internet. I am behind an ADSL box (Orange). I have a PC on the same LAN which accesses Internet perfectly via the same Box.
On the MAC, I have tried WIFI and Ethernet. And have same issue on both. I have checked the IP address (the ADSL box is a DHCP server) but the MAC doesn't get a proper IP and network mask I tried a manual IP address setup and it doesn't get better. I have setup the DNS servers for my Internet provider, but I get DNS error. I have tried 2 Internet browsers (Chrome and Safari), both have the same issue.
I tried to put my MAC on a different ADSL box (I have 2 acccesses with 2 providers at home) and get the same issue.
I also noticed a havy CPU load on the mDNSResponder process (at least 30%). I have restarted it, but no improvement.
Last, I have repared the permissions.
From those trials, it seems that the problem is on the Mac side. But I am completelly without any new idea, so I need help
    Thanks

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • WRT54G2 DNS errors when connecting online to PS3... at a loss for ideas...

Im having dns problems ever since PSN went back online and i cannot connect to the internet with my PS3 or log onto PSN. At first i would get dropped as soon i joined an online game, and it was running very slowly, but now it wont connect at all.
Wired works perfectly. Wireless wont work.
If i use automatic setup then the ip address fails.
If i manually set everything then the ip address passes but the internet connection fails and i get a dns error.
Signal strength is 100% and i have a Linksys WRT54G2 router. (worked perfect 2+ years until this week)
    I have Roadrunner cable modem.
I did ipconfig/all and enetered all numbers from there and didnt work.
I used standard dns like google and such and those didnt work.
Im seriously at a loss for ideas. Is my router broken? Please can anyone help?

I don't think it's necessarily your router. I've encountered the same problem on my WRT54GC and I used OpenDNS. But it gave me all sorts of problems with different websites so I had to take it out and use manual DNS. I used all sorts of combinations through until I got 4.2.2.2  to work.
EDIT: also, try going in to your router's setup page and click Status. Take note of the DNS values and use those in setting up your PS3.

  • While viewing a page I suden get "Oops! This page appears broken. DNS Error - Server cannot be found." However I can back arrow to the page

I just upgrade to versions 18.0.1. I am suing Window 7 64 bit.
Now I while I am viewing a page I suddenly receive the error massage "Oops! This page appears broken. DNS Error - Server cannot be found."
I can use the back arrow key to bring the paper back.
If I have several tabs open, I can watch one tab after another change from the page name, It doesn't seem to matter who page it is, Yahoo, Washington Post, NBCNews,

I am not a techie. I keep 15-20 to tabs open at a time for reference while working. When I upgraded to this version, all my tabs were closed and my history was erased. I still have not recovered from that loss. I do not want to have this repeated!
If I was using pdfforge extension (what ever that is) before the upgrade, why is it venomous now?
Besides this issue, since upgrading I suddenly starting having the audio from commercials being played from tabs that are not active (open). I now have to leave my audio muted.
I expected assistance from Firefox not some unknown individual ( iamjayakumars) who for all I know is a troll trying to get me to do something to expose my computer to attack.
I allowed Firefox to collect data they needed from my computer when I submitted the question.
Fix the bug in your program! I have used Firefox since it came out. I am within a hairs width of switching browser. The only thing holding me with Firefox is my bookmarks. If I figure out how to export them, I am gone.
    FIX YOUR BROWSER!!!
