Do executables built with Labview 8 Evaluation continue to run after evaluation expires?

Over the last couple weeks I've been tasked with evaluating the Labview environment and coming up with a recommendation as to whether I think our company could benefit from buying a license or two. In that time I've developed a couple standalone executable vi's that have proved useful for some of the environmental testing we're doing here in the lab. These executables will likely remain useful in further revisions of the product being developed, so naturally my question is:
Once my evaluation copy expires, will my executables continue to run?
I assume they will, but I thought it would be better to be safe and ask anyways.
There you go, simple question, hopefully simple answer.
Thanks!

Hey Alex,
You should be good to go with the exes you build with your eval version. We don't place any timing restrictions on built executables. For more information on eval limitations see What Limitations Does the LabVIEW Evaluation Version Have?
Thanks!!!!

  • Does a stand-alone EXE built with Labview 8.2 return a return code?

My application is an executable that was built from a VI in Labview 8.2. I'm expecting a return code of this stand-alone executable after the execution, however couldn't find a way to control the return code of the application.
Does a stand-alone executable built with Labview 8.2 return a return code? If yes, how is this code controllable?

    Hi Tdot!
Thank you for contacting National Instruments.  It looks like your question is something that many others have run into.  This topic is discussed here, and looks to be answered along with a couple of suggestions.  I hope this helps!  Let me know if there is anything else I can clarify.  Have a great day!

  • Is it possible to view VIs remotely on windows 7 if VI was built with LabView 8.2?

So I know i'm probably dealing with software compatibility issues here, BUT, I wanted to make sure every option was exhausted before considering the idea of upgrades.
Im using LabView full development system 8.2 on windows XP 32bit os.  Currently, I run into no issues when controling or building VIs on my computer.  Problems do occur when trying to control VIs on a remote computer with windows 7. That computer has run-time 8.2.1 installed on it.  For the most part it works best to just view the VIs, and not interact or control too much.  More specifically, the VI will freeze once interacting with a control that is intended to pop up a two button dialogue box.  I'm sure there are a lot more issues with using run-time 8.2.1 on a windows 7 computer; that one in particular is just the only one i've experienced.
In all efforts to avoid what could eventually be an unavoidable situation where an upgrade is necessary, is there a way to remotely control (on windows 7) a VI front panel that was built with labview 8.2?

Thank you for the response.  Just to preface, I am fairly new to LabView so pardon my potentially "stupid" questions.  Here's my process in a nut shell:  VI programs are created on our server computer and then published for web with the "web publishing tool...".  The html page created is then put on a main page with all other created VIs and are then viewed on other computers that are part of the network via ip address.
I was under the impression the LabView run-time engine enabled remote computers to view and control these VIs.  Could be wrong?  After downloading and installing run-time 8.2.1 (since vi's were created with labview 8.2), those computers are able to enter the ip address and navigate to the main page to control the web published vi's.  The issue is with the computer that has windows 7.  I know run-time 8.2.1 isn't necessarily compatible with windows 7, but it does seem to run the vi on a pretty minimal level.  I run into problems on that computer when hitting particular controls that are wired to be more complex than just a simple boolean.
Just to provide a visual, I attached an image of one of the scenarios where it will freeze up on the windows 7 computer.  This is how the VI should normally function; however, before the dialogue box even pops up after clicking a valve control, it freezes.
I didn't even consider VNC or Remote Desktop up to this point.  Thank you for that idea.  I'll definitely look into that as an alternative.

  • Application crashes when calling DLL built with LabVIEW 2011

    Hello everybody,
Our application calls DLLs built with LabVIEW 2010 SP1. We installed LabVIEW 2011 and built some DLLs. So far so good. If we start our application and run 2010 DLLs it still works fine. If we run a 2011 DLL just once no error happens, but if we try to run the same 2011 DLL our application crashes reporting the error below. I saved the code for 2010 version and built a DLL and it works fine. Does anyone know why?
    Thank you in advance.

On that note, you should be able to create DLLs in 2010 and run them with 2011, correct??  In my case, I have a 2010 built DLL (talking to sbRIO), most of the functions work when run in 2011, but a couple of them lock up LabVIEW on the desktop (but not the sbRIO), no lock ups happen with 2010 on the desktop.

  • Execute an applescript with labview 7.1

Is it possible to execute an applescript with labview? In my opinion an applescript isn´t a appleevent or? So i can´t execute the script. Is there a possibility to communicate with programms on the macintosh? I want to start a applescript with labview and want to read the information from the .txt file which the script writes also with labview. The reading from the .txt file is no problem but to start the script....I found a file which can do scripts. but something is strange with the file. It would be nice if someone could have a look to file and correct it or maybe have good tips for me.
    Thanks a lot

Your VI is missing the CIN resource file. The error message says:
"This Code Interface Node has no code to execute. Right-click the node, select Load Code Resource from the shortcut menu, and select the object code file (.lsb)."
In LV7.1 there is an Apple event vi called AESend Do Script.vi at Functions >> Communications >> Apple Events. It sends a script to a scriptable application. I have not used Apple events much so I really cannot help you beyond this point.

  • Would a LabVIEW 8.5 Executable play nice with LabVIEW 7.1 Development on the Same System?

Our testing computer right now just has the user run the corresponding .vi file since we have LabVIEW 7.1 installed on the computer.
If I use 8.5 to compile this .vi to an executable, I realize that I must install the run-time support for 8.5.  My question is what effect will installing the 8.5 run-time have on the ability to continue to run the other 7.1 VIs with LabVIEW 7.1.
Should I be concerned with losing MAX settings when installing the run-time support for 8.5? I want to be able to run 8.5 executables but also able to open up a 7.1 .vi file in LabVIEW 7.1 and run it that way also.
Thanks for your help! I have 8.5 on my system and the idea is to slowly replace the running of the .vi files with .exe files, I was just curious in case my .exe doesn't work I can still run the tests with .vi in the mean time.
    Thanks for your help folks!

Just note one thing - installing the 8.5 RTE should have no effect on 7.1, but if your executable requires drivers (e.g. DAQmx) and you install a version which no longer supports 7.1, you will lose the ability to work with that driver in 7.1. I don't think NI has any drivers yet which are not supported in 7.1, but I believe there are some which are no longer supported in 7.0.

  • Labview application continues to run in taskbar even after quit labview

    Hi,
My application is supposed to quit labview upon the press of a 'close application' button. But the application continues to run in the task bar and goes away only if task manager is brought up and the app is killed. Why does this happen? my code is quite heavy (7.45MB after installing)and uses lot of front panel controls (more than 300 since its for a batch testing bay)and also uses many synchronisation elements such as notifier, semaphores etc.
What can I do to make the application go away once the quit labview is true?
    thanks!

    Hi,
Using a lot of Notifiers and Queues could lead to this behavior,  if obtained a lot of times. From the LabVIEW help:
"If you use the Obtain Queue function to return a reference to a named queue inside a loop, LabVIEW creates a new reference to the named queue each time the loop iterates. If you use Obtain Queue in a tight loop, LabVIEW slowly increases how much memory it uses because each new reference uses an additional four bytes. These bytes are released automatically when the VI stops running. However, in a long-running application it may appear as if LabVIEW is leaking memory since the memory usage keeps increasing. To prevent this unintended memory allocation, use the Release Queue function in the loop to release the queue reference for each iteration.."
Check/Verify if/that all references to Queues/ Notifiers ... are closed if no longer needed or used in a proper way.
Otherwise LabVIEW will close all the previously opend references in the end, what could take a while.

  • Issues with iTunes 9.2 not running after download.

I have been trying to get iTunes 9.2 going since the 24th when I purchased my iPhone 4. I have had NO LUCK getting iTunes to properly run after downloading the flie.
    I have Vista 64 bit.
When I download the file and attempt to run it, I get the error "Publisher could not be verified" I select run anyway and nothing happens.
I have tried every suggestion made on this form
    I have-
    Tried to run as administrator
    Deleted temp folder in Users/Name
    Ran windows installer cleanup utility
downloaded the file from firefox and IE
It's very annoying because the 32 bit will run and install, but the 64 bit will not. Any suggestions?

None of your software will install on any computer I own. I tried to download Safari and download iTunes through that browser to see if the results would be different, but after downloading it that file does NOTHING after being ran. It's so pathetic I can't even sync my iPhone 4 to my computer after having it since Thursday. Three different computers three different downloads with 2 different browsers.
I'm getting ready to just box up this phone and return it, if I cant even sync it to iTunes, it's useless to me.
If I download through Firefox, nothing happens when I run the executable.
If I download it through Internet Explorer, I get the message that it is an invalid publisher, or publisher could not be identified.
I have erased my temp folder, deleted browser history on both browsers, still nothing.
I am running it in Administrator mode, I have done every suggestion that you have on your site and nothing works.

  • Firefox process occasionally continues to run after closing browser in XP Pro 64 and uses 50% CPU

Every once in awhile after closing Firefox 3.6.13 the process continues to run. The way I discover this is my CPU temperature monitor is increasing from 36C to 50C, so I open the Task Manger and see that it is using 50% of the CPU, slowing down the computer. I am running XP Professional 64 bit SP2 with all the latest updates on an Intel E8400 3.0GHz overclocked to 3.6GHz and 4GB dual channel DDR2-1066 at 800MHz. This happens only occasionally, maybe once or twice a month. I just end the task and the temperature of the CPU drops and everything is normal again.

Norton IPS is apparently a known issue being mentioned in the KB articles:

What exactly is this IPS extension. I am currently using XPs with Norton's NIS (version 18.6 - it is a paid for subscription). I do have Intrusion Prevention active in NIS but I see no specific extension or program IPS. Is this some optional additional software?

I am NOT using the Norton Toolbar etc. is it these components that are causing the problem i.e safe search etc.
I am not having problems with firefox hanging or continuing, despite using NIS.
There is a bug on this https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=548945 but that does not seem to have got very far in confirming or resolving the issue. I imagine Norton have a very large userbase and it seems unlikely that the basic NIS is itself incompatible with Firefox.

  • Why is Firefox continuing to run after I shut down the internet connection?

I am having a problem with Firefox not shutting down. I shut down the internet, then go back on later and I get an error message that Firefox is already running and that I will need to reboot my system to clear the problem. I am running Firefox 3.6.17 on Windows Xp with sp3. I tried running Firefox 4.0 and it just did not run at all so I went back to the previous version.

Hanging at exit is usually caused by and Extension or Plugin.
Sounds like it is hanging when you exit and later try to restart Firefox.

  • JDBC Connection Jobs Continue to Run After Network Issues

We've got 7.0 SP13 installed in our DEV and QAS environments.  We connect to iSeries DB2 tables using a JDBC connection.  We recently experienced a network issue that shutdown PI.  Problem is that the system jobs used to connect to the iSeries are still running and still requiring more and more temporary storage.  We've rebooted our PI boxes but still these connection jobs continue to run and gobble up more memory.
Are we missing something in our configuration of these communication channels that will force these jobs to end???
    Thanks in advance,
    Chad

iSeries is on a separate server altogether.  JDBC connection to the iSeries is setup through the communication channel.
Problem is that the network issue that disconnected PI from the iSeries left these communication jobs running on the iSeries.
Rebooting PI only created MORE of these communication jobs.
Thanks for the reply VJ, but I don't believe the poll interval would help me in this case.
