Do externally linked F4V files load slower than FLVs?

Hey there,
I have used the FLVPlaybackComponent in my project to load an external F4V (about 2.5 minutes long) which is on the same server, in the same directory as my .swf. Firefox seems to take forever (about 15-20 seconds cable or T1) to load the file, while Safari and Internet Explorer seem to be very zippy (1-3 seconds cable or T1). Is there something that I can do to make Firefox load the .f4v as quickly as the other browsers? Of course, I've tried this on multiple computers, multiple OS's, and cleared caches until kingdom come. Troublesome version of Firefox is 3.6.
Thanks,
-Steve

If anyone is interested...the answer to this is yes.
At least, with Firefox...
I encoded the same source file to flv instead of f4v, and lo and behold, it snaps to attention when loaded in Firefox. I was even able to encode the data rate of the flv to one twice the amount of the f4v and it still loaded immediately.
While I know this may not be as much of an f4v issue as it is a Mozilla handling issue, I hope others will benefit from this information. Actually, Chrome had the same problem as Firefox, so, whatever Google and Mozilla are doing to handle f4v content is kinda' screwy at the moment.
Viva flv!

  • Local files loading slow

    (I'm a newbie to flash) I created a website that incorporates
    flash for the main image area and navigation (750 x 350px). The
    main page consists of flash only content. All other pages add html.
    The index .swf file is less than 230k, and all other pages hold one
    .swf file less than 50k. The files are running locally and test
    fine in all browsers on my Powermac G5.
    When I test the site locally in IE on a PC, the index file
    loads fine but all other .swf files load way slow or never. How
    could this be? If anything, shouldn’t the index .swf file
    load slowly?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    But if the swf is on a remote server then it can't get to

  • Signed applets load slower than javascript

    I have a signed applet and i had problems with certifications but i solved them.
    Now i have a new problem with the chat , its when the page is load, javascript tries to get some variables from the applet but it hasn load jet and javascript stops.
    Is 1.5 slower than 1.4??
    How can i solve it'??

    In javascript you can use try and catch. When caught use setTimeout
    var varOfTheApplet = null;
    function callPublicMethodOfTheApplet(){
      try{
            varOfTheApplet = document.getElementById("idOfMyApplet").publicMethod();

  • Why do pdf files load slow

    when I open pdf files in illustrator it is painfully slow.  Can you tell what I should try to do?
    Thanks,
    Allan

    they are approval templates we put designs in for clients.  we make custom clothing.  the file size can range from 1mb to 25mb.  they are not that big i don't think, but they load terribly slow.  there are lots of vector points in the templates but i don't know if they makes a difference.  .ai and .eps files load fine of the art work.  if i create a file and save it in .ai it opens fine.  if i then save it in .pdf it takes a long time to save it and every time opening is slow too.  there was a time when this was not the case and i have just put up with it.

  • Firefox 23 loads slower than Internet Explorer 10

    I was doing a speed test between Firefox 23 and Internet Explorer 10. If you visit http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/Performance/PenguinMark/ all addons are disable on Firefox 23 and still slower than internet explorer. Why is that?

    I don't know how to interpret my results. I got 1 in Firefox (no snow visible) and 8370 in IE (blizzard). Maybe I'm blocking something?

  • Firefox loads slower than internet explorer- WHY?

    It takes twice as long to load Firefox. I took it to Best Buy to check out. They couldn't figure out. No virus.

    Firefox needs longer to startup than IE. IE is part of Windows and large parts are already loaded if Windows is started. Firefox uses XUL and JavaScript code that needs to be loaded and compile on startup and that takes longer. That is what makes Firefox configurable by extensions makers and proficient users.
    How long does it take for Firefox to start?
    A few seconds (less that 20) is quite normal for the first start, especially if you have a lot of bookmarks or history or extensions. A subsequent start should be much faster with all the files in the disk cache. There is also security software that can monitor disk access of Firefox to strictly and cause extra delays in starting.

  • Web sites loading slower than usual, sometimes not loading at all...

    Hello everyone!
    I´m using Lion on an iMac (mid-2010) and I´m frequently having problems loading some web sites using a wi-fi. They take much more time than usual to load and not all elements of the pages are loaded, like thumbnails and other images for example.
    E-mail, torrent and instant-messaging programs work as usual though.
    As you guys might guess, I had no problems using Snow Leopard.
    I tried many things to solve the problem: resetting the SMC, setting a fixed ip, resetting the iMac and the router, setting other dns addresses.
    They seem to work for a while but the problem eventually returns.

  • Problems with streaming f4v files longer than approximate 1 hour

    Hey Everybody!
    I have a problem streaming on-demand f4v-files longer than 1 hour! The video starts normaly playing the stream and the player shows the correct overall duration. But if you start skipping/seeking the overall duration change to 13 h 20m and 28s (instead of 1 hour) and the stream breaks down. All f4v files with less than one hour duration works fine with playing and skipping!
    I encode the f4v files with Adobe Media Encoder. I have also checked the f4v file with FLVcheck (passed). So, does anybody have an idea in fixing this problem and which format is the best for FMS streaming (MP4, FLV, F4V?)?
    Thanks

    To  complicate this further, I found I wasn't able to output F4v files from Adobe Media Encoder (Premiere Pro CS4), without the file freezing at 1 hour 11 minutes and 34 seconds. I output 5 different 2-hour clips, played them back in Adobe Media Player and all froze exactly (to the second!) at 1 hour 11 minutes and 34 seconds. Found it interesting and inexplicable that this poster had exactly the same issue, but involving software that is completely different - http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/53987-Virtual-Dub-Strange-error-help-needed-ASAP     Can anyone make sense of this?

  • Oracle Forms loading slower with Sun JRE in Oracle E-Business Suite 11i

    Hi,
    After Deploying Sun JRE (Native Plug-in) for Windows Clients in Oracle E-Business Suite 11i (Note 290807.1) we find that Oracle Forms are loading slower than using Jinitiator.
    Also the PDF reports are opening in a minimized fashion. Meaning the PDF reports are opening correctly in new browser window (as expected) but is minimized.
    Customer is not willing to go live with Sun JRE due to these issues.
    Plz advice is there is any additional configuration I need to do.
    Rgds,
    Thiru

    When the JRE was installed/configured on the workstations was the jar cache placed on a LAN drive instead of the local drive? We have experienced poor performance with both the JRE and Jinitiator when the Workstation Sysadmins configured the jar cache to be located on a LAN drive. Also is the size of the jar cache on the workstation sufficient to hold all of your required jar files. It could be downloading the jar files all the time.
    Overall our performance with the JRE is comparible to the Jinitiator.
    Sorry I have not experienced the problem that you are having with you pdf reports so I can't provide any comments on it.

  • Infoview loading slow [DSL-VPN] because network up-link exhausted

    Hi everyone
    We run XI R2 SP4 at work on a dedicated Win2003 Server with a Gigabit network interface. From the Office LAN (100Mbps) the Infoview portal is loading adequately fast, no delays, no partial screens. When I work from home over a 3Mbit down/384Kbps up DSL Cisco software VPN connection the InfoView portal generally loads terribly slow. I did some investigations in my XP registry and had a look at bandwith usage. It only throws up more questions.
    I have the following settings in XP Pro's registry:
    TcpWindowSize: 64K
    GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize: not implemented
    Tcp1323Opts: 1
    I played around with those values, but it didn't change much to the following issue:
    Upon opening the Infoview portal in IE or requesting a folder's contents the network bandwith used is as follows:
    UPLINK: 40-50Kbps pretty much constantly
    DOWNLINK: 3-30Kbps with peaks of 70-100Kbps
    So my question is, if I want to speed up the portal loading, something's gotta change in the amount of UPLINK it requires to request a simple page. Yes, I made sure NOTHING else was running that requires bandwith, started with a clean 0
    Or in other words: why on earth is Infoview demanding MORE UPLINK (384kbps) than downlink (3000kbps)? This makes no sense to me.
    Am I overlooking the obvious here?
    Thanks all.
    Tom C.

    Hi,
    Make sure your network throughput between the client and the server is below (slower than) the Throughput threshold parameter.
    and then follow this article to check your syntax:
    Slow-Link with Windows 7 and DFS Namespaces
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2011/12/14/slow-link-with-windows-7-and-dfs-namespaces.aspx
    Meanwhile, make sure these files are already offline available and group policy applied.
    Hi Karen,
    Thanks for the reply!  That's the link I used when I first attempted to establish this sceanrio in the first place, and it certainly is useful!  I got the Event IDs I was scanning for in that article, as well as the understanding that it takes
    at least five minutes in one state before switching to the other (either offline to online or vice versa).  However, I'm certain I've rate-limited the network connection to 256 Kb/s, and I see in my registry that the slowlinkparam for my entry has a throughput
    value of 512000 (I've changed it from the previous value of 4096000, but either way, they both should exceed 256 Kb/s).
    How else can I make sure my throughput is slower than the established threshold?  Alternatively, how can I measure the threshold to see whether or not it's below the value we established for testing purposes?

  • URLClassLoader slower than system loader

    I'm subclassing URLClassLoader to load jar files on the local file system. I noticed that URLClassLoader loads about 30% slower than placing the jar files on the system class path. In my app, class loading performance in very important -even though it is just a one time hit.
    I suspect the URLClassLoader (which I believe is implemented mostly in Java on Sun's VM) is not leveraging the many performance optimziations that the system loader enjoys (which is probably implemented in native code).
    I also experience the same performance issue if I try to do jar loading myself using Java ZipFile i/o.
    Comments?

    well there is quite more overhead involved - loading from classpath of course is the most optimized one.

  • Preloader to also preload external f4v files in main movie?

    n00b alert... I did search the forum (and several others
    online), but either the code got too complicated for me to even
    attempt to adjust it, or I didn't find a relevant answer.
    So I really hope someone here can help me out.
    I've found a preloader code online that works like a charm. I
    don't really know what half of it actually means/does, but it
    preloads and then plays the mainfile.swf . Me happy.
    But the "mainfile.swf" calls external f4v files, and the
    problem is that they do not get preloaded. (And that kinda was why
    I needed a preloader in the first place...)
    I gave all the f4v files instance names within the mainfile
    (assume: video01.f4v, video02.f4v etc), and the f4v files
    themselves are in the same folder as the mainfile.swf.
    What do I need to add to the code to get it to preload
    everything?
    Thanks in advance!!
    ActionScript Code of my preloader is attached.

    You could load each movie using movieClip.loadClip(); and
    check it has been loaded by using a listener and the
    "myListener.onLoadInit" script to write your own function to begin
    the playhead for that movie.

  • Adding an Adobe Captivate 4 file with external links to Moodle

    Hi - Does anyone know how to upload an adobe captivate 4 file so external links within the published adobe cp file open when playing in moodle?   I have attached a wmv video that does not open.  Also I have attached a swf Raptivity file that does not open.
    Thanks, Sandra

    The wvx file is only really a small text file containing something like this code:
    <ASX VERSION="3.0">
    <ENTRY>
      <REF HREF="myvideo.wmv" />
    </ENTRY>
    </ASX>
    It seems to just make Windows Media Player happier when loading  wmv file for some reason.  I had to resort to using this file at one client site running an IIS web server. You point your link in Captivate at the wvx file, which then loads the video.  The wvx file can have quite a lot of other code inside it to do fancy stuff.  But that's not essential.
    If your question is now answered, please mark it at the top.

  • Why is my new Airport Extreme loading sites slower than my old Airport Express

    I replaced my 2007 Airport Express with the newest model Airport Extreme yesterday. Speed tests show that my download speeds are 60% higher with the new Extreme.  However, when I load sites in Safari, Chrome or Firefox, they are much slower to load (e.g. 16 seconds to load Netflix)  than before.  Your help would be appreciated.

    These can be difficult issues to sort out..
    You need to LAN speed test.. ie copy a file from one computer to another on the network.. the second computer should be plugged in by ethernet so it is not going to cause slower speeds.
    Then do the speednet test.. also just by ethernet and compare with wireless..
    Once you have speed testing.. LAN side and WAN side we can perhaps help you to sort the issue.
    We will need as much network info as possible.
