Do I need Adobe Reader & alternative browsers?

Hello!
I'm relatively new to the world of Mac and am delighted so far.
However, I've tried downloading a bill from an energy supplier's site (Powergen) and it opens a window then says "we could not access your bill." I've tried on various occasions - same result. It may be the site is having problems; maybe it doesn't recognise Safari (although other areas of 'online account management' seem OK). Also, I tried downloading a document from the British Gas site and it told me I need Adobe Reader. On other sites (so far) PDF-style docs load into Safari's reader with no probs.
Basically, do I need Adobe Reader? Should I try Debug? (where Safari 'pretends' to be IE), and/or should I try different browsers? In my Windows days I used Firefox, although I gather Camino is more 'purpose built' for the Mac. Is this the case?
Many thanks for any advice offered.

Hello Ast. A. Moore, thanks for replying.
I can't provide a link to the Powergen bill page exactly as that is part of the 'security log-in' section.
The British Gas page, however, appears below. I'm sorry about the length of the url but I haven't yet figured out how to make a proper clickable link here.
If you paste the below into your browser and go to this page on their site, then click on the sentence 'British and Scottish Gas Prices' in blue down the page hopefully it will then try to get you their price list. It was at this point I got the 'Acrobat Reader required' message in a new window.

I hope the above is useful; and thanks for your help.

  • How do I open a file that needs  adobe reader on my iPad

How do I open a file on my iPad that needs adobe reader.

Safari and the Mail app support PDFs - tap on them and they should open. If you want to store them on the iPad then there are a number of apps that support them and which you can sync them to or use 'open in' on Safari or Mail to copy them to e.g. free apps such as Apple's iBooks and Adobe Reader

  • Does a person need Adobe Reader in order to use a fillable PDF form?

I have created a fillable form using Acrobat XI and I find that some persons are unable to use it  while others are.  Does a person need Adobe Reader to use the fillable  form?  If so, how easy is it to download?
    Thank you

    Hi kenmilw,
Reader is an excellent, and free, option for your recipients who need to fill out your form. It's easily downloaded from www.adobe.com/products/reader.html. You can also use the Fill & Sign service on Acrobat.com to fill any PDF form.
What troubles are your recipients encountering? And those who do have trouble--how are they filling out the form?
    Best,
    Sara

You can use Preview to open PDFs. Right-click a PDF file and go to Open with > Preview

  • As of late i have been unable to run fwd email u tube videos my mac tells me i need adobe flash got it still neg = and now my bakn statement is in pdf and mac tells me i need adobe reader got still neg why can't i run these things on safari?

As of late I am unable to run forwarded videos ie utube ect on safari- my MAC tells me I need adobe flash- got it still neg - now my bank statement is in PDF format and my MACtells me I need adobe reader - got it still neg  WHY CAN'T I RUN THESE THINGS ON SAFARI???

    Hi...
For videos. Uninstall the current Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Quit then relaunch Safari. From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
    Try a video.
All online bank statments are in PDF format.
    Go to  /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Move the Adobe PDF Browser plugin  (or just PDF Browser plugin) to the Trash.
    Now try a bank statement.

Sorry, I don't understand this - you don't want Adobe [Reader] not to open when doing what?  On what operating system?

  • HT1338 do i need adobe reader or flash

Do I need adobe reader & flash player with Lyon?

Depends on your needs. Anytime Adobe adds new features to Acrobat Pro, there will be users creating documents using those new features the Reader will be able to display that Apple's Preview cannot, since they have to play catch-up and try to figure out how to render the new format.
As far as Flash, that is site dependent. Flash is used on the web, more than anything else it seems, to animate ads. But you also need it for YouTube videos and many other objects where if Flash is not enabled, you may not even be able to use a particular site.
That's for now. With Flash banned from mobile devices, expect more and more companies to use HTML5 and do away with Flash entirely. It will probably be a slow transition, but I think Flash's days are numbered.

  • I can not get my ipay statements , I need adobe reader

I cant get my ipay statements, it says I need adobe reader, which I have installed and still can not get my information

    Hi salex7,
I just checked your account and saw that your order is still processing. I can take several hours for an order to process fully. Once it does, however, you should have no problem logging in and converting files.
Please try again shortly, and let us know if you're able to log in.

  • Adobe Reader says I have it but I cannot look at certain statements because it says I need Adobe Reader, but I have it! Feeling frustrated!!!

I keep running into problems seeing documents and such on Safari. When I go to a page it says I need Adobe Reader to view it but I already have the newest Adobe Reader on my computer. I really need to fix this! Can anyone help me?

This is what it says. I have done all of this and it still does not let me view the page.
Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser.

  • Need Adobe Reader 9.x for Solaris 10 x86

There used to be a link on your web site for the Solaris 10 x86 download for Adobe Reader 9.x products. Could you please send me an updated link or an alternative method of downloading the Solaris intel version of Adobe Reader? Would prefer the link comes directly from Adobe since verification is needed that it is from a trusted source. Thanks!

    Hi,
there is no actual release of Acrobat Reader
    ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/
later then Acrobat Reader 4 for Solaris x86
    ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobatreader/unix/4.x/sunx86-ar-405.tar.gz.
All posts that announce Solaris x86 support for release 8 are untrue.
The only working extended Pdf-Editor (comparable to Adobe Acrobat XI)
for Solaris x86 at the moment is PDFStudio Java

  • Need Adobe reader for Mac OS 10.3 Panther

Graffiti: I downloaded from the link you provided. Thanks for your attention, but my computer gives me the message that the "movie could not be opened". Either the Quicktime Player I have is insufficient, or they are not compatible. From the "win" in the link address, I am wondering whether that reader was really for Mac OS 10.3

    Sorry Julia.
Looking at the thread where I posted the link, I realize I gave you the link to the Windows version.
Here is the link to the Mac version: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/mac/8.x/8.1/enu/AdbeRdr810_en_US_ppc.dmg
I assume you are not running an Intel Mac? If so, you'll need this one: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/mac/8.x/8.1/enu/AdbeRdr810_en_US_i386.dmg

  • Do I need Adobe Reader if I have CS4?

I have Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium, using Windows 7 Home Premium on Dell Inspiron 1545. I have to uninstall as many programs as I can to save disk space. (I've maxed out the memory upgrades my computer can take.) Adobe Reader XI (which I think is the free reader) takes 127 MB. Can I uninstall Adobe Reader XI? In other words, is Adobe Reader XI performing a function that CS4 could perform? Obviously, I'm not a power user of CS, but use it occasionally in my work as an editor (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, in that order). Of course, I definitely need a pdf reader. Yes, I know I need a new computer, but need to make this one work a little while longer.

Not only do you not need it you should have really have Reader and
    Acrobat installed.
