Do I need to deconfig the SYSMAN schema if the DB is a new install?

Hi,
I am trying to install a 11gR1 OEM in a new server. But the installation guide makes me thinking that the
OMS installation will not automatically create an database for repository, because it kept mentioning 'existing database'. and I could not find a installation guide that will including install everything (db, OMS, agent, etc).
so I installed the 11g2 database, but the 'Pre-requiest' part of installation asked me to deconfig the 'SYSMAN' schema and drop the respository after the DB installation. My question is :
1. The database is brand new, do I need to reconfig?
2. Are there installation guide that is for a totally brand new installation, including database and OMS?
Thanks a log.

Hi, Ash:
Thanks for your reply and help.
I was using that guide your link points to. But I am confused by it. I am still on the stage of doing prerequisite. On the following page of the installation:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11857_01/install.111/e15838/install_em_exist_db.htm#CIAIGDIH
on the section of 'Drop SYSMAN scheman' it says:
===
2.
Before dropping the schema, set the environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH to the ORACLE_HOME/lib directory of the OMS. Also set the ORACLE_HOME to the Oracle home of the OMS.
3.
Drop the schema by running the following command from the Oracle home of the OMS.
$<ORACLE_HOME>/sysman/admin/emdrep/bin/RepManager <repository_database_host>
===
My question is:
I have not install OEM yet, so I don't have anything within OMS home, I installed WebLogic Server and database, nothing else yet. How can I get '<ORACLE_HOME>/sysman/admin/emdrep/bin/RepManager' under ORACLE_HOME of OMS?
Thanks so much for your help.

• How do I whitelist the 'file:' scheme in the NoScript preferences so I can use Zotero?

I am using Firefox 15.0. When I opened Zotero, I received the message, "The NoScript extension is preventing Zotero from displaying notes. To use NoScript and Zotero together, whitelist the 'file:' scheme in the NoScript preferences and restart Firefox."
I looked under NoScript for preferences, but I could not find any references to "preferences." What does the message mean and how do I get Zotero and NoScript to work together?

Thanks, the-edmeister. I have tried looking at various entries in the list at your link. However, the top-level entries in the list are so generic that I have not found anything useful even after a couple of hours poking around in various lists.
What is the message trying to tell me (see my first entry)? After my earlier unsuccessful attempts to find what it seems to be indicating, I have realized the message is gibberish to me at this point.

• Where can I download the Apple.Schema and the Samba.Schema files?

I'm messing around with trying to use an OpenLdap server (on Ubuntu) to authenticate Mac Clients.
Of course, I need to load the apple schema to do that. Where can I download it? (I do not have a copy of OSX Server to copy it from....)

You can find schemas into the folder : /etc/openldap/schema/ in every Macintosh running 10.5

• What are the sample schemas(like scott,hr) in oracle 12c?

Hi,
I have just downloaded and installed the oracle 12c on my desktop(Hurray!), but i don't see any of the sample schemas like scott and hr to play with. Do we have anything like those schemas in 12c?
Thanks,
sg

I have just downloaded and installed the oracle 12c on my desktop(Hurray!), but i don't see any of the sample schemas like scott and hr to play with. Do we have anything like those schemas in 12c?
Yes - but they would be in a PDB if you installed the sample schemas; you won't find them in the CDB.
If, like many people new to 12c, you did a default install for a database named ORCL and then connect to ORCL you are connecting to the CDB; that is, the root container. You won't find any sample schema there.
If you installed the sample schemas then the install process would have created one PDB name PDBORCL (by default) and that PDB would contain the sample schemas.
Then the next thing users typically do is connect as sysdba and do a STARTUP and then find they can't connect to PDBORCL. Surprise! The PDBs are NOT opened by default; you need to open them manually when you startup the DB or create an AFTER STARTUP trigger that opens the ones you want.

Hi
I am new to Oracle but not to VS. I have downloaded and installed the newest tools for Developer, having first tried the install for VS2003.net (which refused to install on my VS 2005.) I got the beta download and installed it, but my oracle explorer shows nothing. Any attempt to add a connection results in an error ORA-12560:TNS:protocol adaptor error. I had the full install of 10g r2 on my notebook, but removed it and opted for the XE version. I removed the Oracle_Home environment variable prior to installing XE. I am trying to connect to the HR database, and the account is unlocked. I saw a reference to the tnsfiles file, and that seems to be the problem, but I don't know what to do about it. Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer help.

• Dbma_scheduler job executing procedure that loops through all client schemas in the database rolls back transaction incase of exception

Hi,
Needed your inputs on approach to implement a job using dbms_scheduler.
We have around 2000 schemas. Each schema has a package with 2 procedures.
The requirement is to create a single job in SYS that would loop through each schema and run the procedures at a specific time ( once a day) and send email notification on success or failure.
Job script:
BEGIN
dbms_scheduler.create_job( job_name=> 'LOAD_EACH_SCHEMA_AUDIT_DATA',
job_type=>'PLSQL_BLOCK',
job_action=>'BEGIN sys.p_loadaudit;
END;',
start_date=>systimestamp,
repeat_interval=>'FREQ=MINUTELY;INTERVAL=1',
number_of_arguments=>0,
enabled=> true,
comments=>'Job repeat interval is every 5 mins' );
END;
Note: for testing purpose i have set repeat interval to minutely.
Procedure job will be executing:
Procedure sys.p_loadaudit:
CREATE OR REPLACE
PROCEDURE p_loadaudit

I was able to execute the job successfully. However, when a schema procedure (SCHEMA_01.pkg_audit_info.p_load_COA) throws an exception, the job fails and all transaction is rolled back.
Is there a way to loop through each schema and execute the related procedures. Even if exception happens, it should rollback only for that schema and continue the other schemas in the loop?
Please let me know if there is a better way to achieve this. Is the way i am handling exceptions in the job/procedure correct?
Thanks

Hi,
RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR will cause the program to exit back to the caller, even if you place it in a block within the loop, so the RAISE or RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR instruction should be placed in your "pkg_audit_info.p_load_AM" and "pkg_audit_info.p_load_coa" procedures. This way, you can use a block inside the loop and log the error.
FOR i IN
( SELECT username FROM dba_users WHERE username LIKE 'ABCFIRM%'
LOOP
BEGIN
vstmt:= 'begin ' || i.username || '.pkg_audit_info.p_load_coa; end;';
EXECUTE immediate vstmt;
vstmt:= 'begin ' || i.username || '.pkg_audit_info.p_load_am; end;';
EXECUTE immediate vstmt;
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
--> Log the error in a custom log table otherwise you will not know what happened for that schema: don't forget the username
END;
END LOOP;

• CLAF - How to just change the color-scheme of default laf of Oracle EBiz

How to change the color scheme of the default oracle ebusiness suites laf?
When we tried the CLAF UI, there is no option to extend the oracle-desktop.xss.
It gives only the base-desktop (which is different from the default Oracle Ebusiness laf).
Have anyone done this ?
Any suggestions/help is appreciated..?

the default LAF is Browser one and the OA personalization guide tells what we can't extend it.
It reads so stupid what i was not able to believe it.. But seems true.
When you need to make a simple modification and keeping the look and feel, you can't.
I changed only one icon but you can't give blaf (even if you modify the extends property in the look and feel metadata.xml
Had you try to copy all blafs styles in your BLAF ? (that could be a workaround even if is it not upgradable ?)
Or, open SR ?
Anyway, I'm interesting by an answer too.

• MDSYS Schema in the Database for spatial data

Hi
As MDSYS Schema is required in the oracle database to hold the spatial data, The client database server has no MDSYS schema installed.
So, when i import the mvdemo.dmp file in the database it is erroring out since there is no spatial data, Please let me know how to get the MDSYS schema in the database.
Thank You

Hi thanks for your response, i found this out in the oracle site, DBA ran this script for creation of MDSYS..but there was no data in some of the tables which are needed for development.
--- COMPATIBLE init.ora parameter is set to 9.0.0.0.0 or higher
show parameter compat
NAME TYPE VALUE
compatible string 10.2.0.3.0
If you create an Oracle database using the Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA), Spatial is installed by default and you do not need to perform the installation steps described in this section.
Steps to create the MDSYS schema and objects
1) Connect to the database instance specifying AS SYSDBA.
2) Create the MDSYS user with a command in the following format:
SQL> CREATE USER MDSYS IDENTIFIED BY <password>;
3) Grant the required privileges to the MDSYS user by running the following procedure:
SQL> @ORACLE_HOME/md/admin/mdprivs.sql
4) Connect as MDSYS.
5) Install Spatial by running the following procedure:
SQL> @ORACLE_HOME/md/admin/catmd.sql
SQL> ALTER USER MDSYS ACCOUNT LOCK;
So this solution dint work out.......

• Difference between the follwoing schemas

Dear's
Please let me know the difference between the follwoing schemas
apex_public_user
apex_400032 (ver number)
workspace schema
database account schema( for database account authentication scheme)
Thanks & Regards
Dennis

1) You can use database accounts to facilitate authorisation. Is this what you mean by "proxy"?
2) Regardless of authentication method, you don't need to worry about roles/privileges for each user. The parsing schema for the application handles all of that. You can use authorisation components to handle access privileges in your application
3) Custom authentication - can use your own user table, for instance
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23903_01/doc/doc.41/e21674/sec_authentication.htm#BABFBCFJ
Database (account) authentication - good if db users already exist, otherwise overkill.

• Meaning of the term " Schema "

Folks
I just want to know the general meaning of the term " Schema " in the database development perspective and from an Oracle perspective.
It will be very helpful if you explain to me in a simple way because I am very new to the Database field
Just started learning sql , pl/sql in ORACLE XE.

Matt wrote:
I just want to know the general meaning of the term " Schema " in the database development perspective and from an Oracle perspective. A schema can be many things.
Typically a schema is what you would call a database in SQL-Server and mySQL. In other words, it is a container for a logical database. Where this logical database consists tables, indexes, stored procs, views, triggers, etc. etc.
A schema also can be used as a user account. For example, schema DB1 is used as a logical database schema. Schema JOHN is created for John Doe to logon to Oracle and use the DB1 logical database. DB1 in this case will need to grant JONH access to its objects (and this way different user schemas can have different rights and access to a logical database schema).
Or a schema can be container for common code. A lot of PL/SQL based applications will have a set of common packages and functions and procedures. This can be stored in a schema that acts as a common code library. The code will typically be defined using caller rights (meaning that if the code is called by schema FOO, the code executes with FOO's rights). Public execute rights are granted.
A schema can be an application schema for a 3 tier system. The application tier (Java system running in JBoss for example) does the user authentication. This app tier needs to talk to the database (i.e. logon using a schema). In this case a special schema is created for the app tier (a so-called "trusted" schema as the database trusts the app tier to authenticate the users in order to gain access to the database). This app schema will then (similar to the JOHN user schema) have rights on the logical database schema.
A schema can be a full blown application framework. Oracle's Apex is an example. Its schema contains the Apex runtime engine and Apex RAD GUI. You develop your application inside this framework (which is stored as data in this app framework schema). This Apex app you develop will usually in turn use a logical database schema.
A schema can also be a combination of some of the above.
The SYS schema for example is the core of the database and contains (amongst others) the data dictionary of the database.
There is a special schema that contains the XMDB (XML database) feature of Oracle.
So Oracle itself uses the concept of containers to bundle specific feature sets together in a logical and secure way.
Schemas can also be physically separated from one another. The DB1 logical database schema can for example use its very own physical storage (Oracle tablespaces).
The great thing about a schema is that it can fill a number of roles - as it provides a secure container and in turn security layers can be created between containers to allow one container (e.g. user schema JOHN) to access/use objects of another container (e.g. logical database schema DB1).
And correctly using schemas are important for flexibility, maintainability and above all, security.

• Using Express when the database schema does not match theclass model

We are working on a large pay/personnel management system and are
evaluating Forté Express and Sage Scaffolds. We need to answer some big
questions in the near future, and I was hoping that there may be someone
out there with the answers.
1. How different can the database schema and the class model be, before
Express becomes a bad choice of framework? What solutions exist for cases
where Express is still a viable option?
2. Assuming that we can get around the problem in question 1, will the
Application Model features still work afterwards? (i.e. how sensitive are
the client-side services to changes in the database services?)
3. Express seems to use domain classes everywhere, whereas we are always
being advised to use scalar attributes wherever possible. How badly does
this affect the performance of Express applications?
4. Has anybody out there used Sage Scaffolds on a large project recently?
How did it go? What problems should we watch out for? Doesn't its 'Chain
of Responsibility' pattern tend to produce a lot of unnecessary objects at
run-time?
5. Has anybody used the Born collection classes? How do they compare with
Brahma's Fortify?
Thanks to those who have already helped - all input gratefully received!

dbms_xmlschema.registerSchema ( schemaURL, xdbURIType(schemaPath).getClob(), TRUE, TRUE, FALSE, TRUE );
end;
/ I guess my understanding was that I could grant another oracle user access to my registered schema just like I can grant a single user access to a table. Evidently I only have two options. Only the schema owner can use the schema or everyone can use the schema and I cannot grant access to a single user other than myself.

• Confused about the default schema

Hi,
I am a little bit confused about the schema concept.
I want to create a new schema called APP and then create several users and roles based on the schema APP. The default schema for the users should be APP achema.
How can I make the schema APP the default schema for the new users that I am creating?
I feel that there are some schema design concepts that I have to learn. Is there any resource on the internet that I can read and learn more about oracle schema design best practices?
Any help would be appreciated,
Ali

A schema holds object definitions, and in the case of table & index objects the schema also holds the data.
A user owns the schema.
Therefore the user 'owns the definitions (including any functions, procedures, sequences, tabels, etc.)
Other users may be granted access to some, or all, of the objects in a schema. This is done through the 'GRANT ...' command. For example, consider the following steps:
1) create user app_owner
2) create table object test owned by the app_owwner
3) create user app_user
4) grant select, update, insert and delete on app_owner's test table to app_user
5) add synonyms to avoid needing to qualify the table's schema name.
done as follows:
oracle@fuzzy:~> sqlplus system
SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Mon Apr 3 20:07:32 2006
Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved.
Enter password:
Connected to:
Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
Create the app owner userid. Note there is no need to ever log in to that user, even to create tables.
SQL> create user app_owner
2 identified by xyz
3 account lock
4 quota unlimited on users
5 default tablespace users
6 temporary tablespace temp;
User created.
Creating objects in a schema can be done by providing the schema name, or by switching schema in newer versions of Oracle
SQL> create table app_owner.test ( t number );
Table created.
Create a userid that will access the table. Set that userid up to access the database and (for future) give it the capability to create it's own synonyms
SQL> create user app_user
2 identified by xyz
3 temporary tablespace temp;
User created.
SQL> grant create session to app_user;
Grant succeeded.
SQL> grant create synonym to app_user;
Grant succeeded.
Now give the user access to the objects
SQL> grant select, update, insert, delete on app_owner.test to app_user;
Grant succeeded.
Let's test it out. Insert by qualifying the schema name on the object, then create a synonym to avoid using schema, and try it all using the synonym
SQL> connect app_user/xyz
Connected.
SQL> insert into app_owner.test values (4);
1 row created.
SQL> create synonym test for app_owner.test;
Synonym created.
SQL> insert into test values (3);
1 row created.
SQL> select * from test;
T
4
3
SQL> Note that some people want to use PUBLIC grants and PUBLIC synonyms. This is a real bad idea if you want to ensure long term security of the data and want to host several different applications in the same Oracle instance.
This, and a whole lot more, is in the 'Concepts' manual for your version of the database at http://docs.oracle.com

• How to register the same schema with same URL

I'm getting ORA-31085 error when try to register the same schema with same URl.
My requirement is that I should be able to reregister the same schema with the same URL .
I'm using the following function :
PROCEDURE validateXmlSchema(inp_xmlMsg IN VARCHAR2,
out_isValidDoc IN OUT NUMBER,
inp_xmlSchema IN OUT VARCHAR2,
out_varchar_notused OUT VARCHAR2)IS
xmldoc XMLType;
res number;
BEGIN
xmldoc := XMLtype(inp_xmlMsg);
res := xmldoc.isSchemaValid(inp_xmlSchema);
IF (xmldoc.isSchemaValid = 1) THEN
out_isValidDoc := 1;
ELSE
out_isValidDoc := 0;
END IF;
END validateXmlSchema;
This is used recursively.Until the schema is not validated for a given URL this function should keep on throwing error and once the schema is validated the data should be inserted in the DB.
But its not happening as of now instead the ORA-31085 is thrown second time.
Plz provide pointers to solve the issue.

I believe the OP is talking about a dropdown menu like this
one
http://www.tjkdesign.com/articles/keyboard_friendly_dropdown_menu/default.asp
not about a "select menu".
I could be wrong though...
