I updated my iMac to 10.7.4 and it pretty much destroyed my drive. At first, my keyboard wouldn't work. Then my mouse didn't work. Luckily, I have a laptop so I used the iMac as a target disc. Disc Utility said the drive was too severely damaged to fix. Then it wouldn't appear on the desktop at all. Then I booted off the DVD and Disk Utility came back with the same error. Then I used Disk Warrior which managed to create a ghost drive so I could pull off my most recent files; I keep all my data on a seperate drive for exactly this reason. Once I pulled off all my month's work, I had to reformat the drive and clone a previous system backup back onto the iMac. Of course, there was nothing wrong with the drive once I wiped it clean. So either the update is malicious or it ignited malware on my machine. If you download off the internet or off bit torrent, make sure you BACK UP your entire system before updating it in case you need to revert. Cost me two days of work. The only way to own a Mac is to own TWO Macs and Disk Warrior. Seriously.

Your experience is not typical. I've updated several systems to Mac OS X 10.7.4 with no problems whatsoever. If your drive is reported as being too damaged to fix, there is a strong possibility that there was damage to begin with that the update either exacerbated or which damage actually damaged the installation of 10.7.4.
If you download off the internet or off bit torrent
If you download any Mac OS X update from anyplace other than Apple themselves, and particularly from some completely unverifiable source such as BitTorrent, then you place your system at grave risk.
The only way to own a Mac is to own TWO Macs and Disk Warrior. Seriously.
Stuff and nonsense. Seriously. Keep good backups, particulary before doing any major upgrade or maintenance, and don't download things from unverifiable sources. Take the normal precautions before upgrading (confirming disk health, compatibility of software and peripherals, etc) and the vast majority of times things will go just fine.

Visual nodes not updating unless I resize the application window

I'm not sure what has happened here but I can add new nodes and use my app as normal but there is no longer any change on screen to indicate modified nodes until I resize the application window!
Once i double click the top of the app window sure enough I can see the new nodes that were added.. this is very frustrating.. Any ideas what this could be?
I went back to an older version of my app and it is occurring with that also so it isn't new changes to the app. Is my javafx broken somehow?

This is really weird... I reinstalled java, javafx, and netbeans and it didn't rectify the problem immediately. After a few days I came back to netbeans and tried the application and it was working properly. Without changing anything.
Now again, I shutdown and restarted the PC and have come back to netbeans and the application will not update moved objects on screen unless you resize the window!
This is really crazy... I literally had this application working perfectly for several days before I shut down my PC (I usually just sleep the computer for days on end until it needs a reboot).
Restarted PC and the old problem came back... I'm running Windows 7 64 bit... Am I going crazy? I don't feel this is code related!

Apple Remote Desktop is off be default. It has to be enabled for some one to be able to remotely connect to the computer. And then, you still have to have a user name and password on the computer to remotely connect with.
If you want to see if remote access has is enabled for Apple Remote Desktop; you can find the setting in, Apple Menu, System Prefrences, Sharing. If it's enabled, Remote Management or Screen Sharing will be checked.
Beucase Apple Remote Desktop Agent is part of the Mac Operating System; even if your not using it, Apple Software Updates will from time to time offer updates for ARD Agent. Software Updates can some times be stacked ontop of each other; so chosing not to install an update, can mean other updates you may want may not be offered. At least until you install the updates those updates require. Also software updates can improve the security of your computer.

Try these basic troubleshooting steps first

Since update, will not send or receive picture messages unless using imesage

Since the I0S6 update, my phone will not send or receive picture messages unless it's being sent through iMessage.
I know of other people having the same problem, with different versions of the phone and different carriers.
Anyone else?
I have the iPhone 4 with Sprint.
Friend has the iPhone 4s with Verizon.

Check settings/message and make sure MMS is ON. Also chcek that your carrier/your plan allows sending of pictures over MMS

SharePoint 2013 Active directory import -Manager field not updating
Concern/Issue-
We are using SharePoint and configured the Active Directory Import .First import it seems everything is working fine and OOB Organization chart built using User profile data is coming out right.
Now the user is moved from one Organization Unit to Another.
Now our Manager field is not Updating .There is change in AD manager attribute but not reflecting in the SharePoint User profile.
Manger field is mapped to "manager" attribute in SharePoint.
We tried removing the user and Re-Import using Incremental import but no luck.

Moving a user from one OU to another in AD won't normally change the Manager attribute in AD. You would need to edit the user's organization settings to change the manager value in AD. I've also seen these changes not be picked up unless something
other than just the manager field in AD changing. Try changing something like Office location and see if the manager change is picked up by AD Import.

Dreamweaver Teamplate with Library Item for Navigation/Sidebar not updating editable classes

I have a Dreamweaver Template that contains two Library items. One Library item is my navigation bar, the other is a sidebar that shows different content depending on what page you are on. I'm assigning an editable class "active" to the navigation bar to show you are on a particular page, and also assigning the editable class "active" to the sidebar to reveal a portion of the sidebar with links pertaining to that specific page. The default value for the class is "hidden". So what is happening is when I open a page I have created and "edit" the Library Items in it to edit these classes, it resets resets all the other pages on the site to the default class values. How am I able to use editable classes and Library Items to achieve this kind of functionality? The idea is to only have ONE navigaton bar to update on the site and to only have ONE sidebar item to update. Here is an example of the sidebar and navigation in action so you can see what I'm going for. Notice the green button in the navigation bar (that is a list item with the class "active" which is an editable class in the Library Item, also notice the tan links in the sidebar, that is an unordered list that has an editable class of "active" in the Library Items --- these editable classes reset to their defaults when updating the Library Item on the website).

In my understanding, whenever you edit the contents of a library item, it will update all other occurances of this library item on the rest of the site. That's "working as designed" as far as I know, unless you break the link by telling it to not update - which kinda defeats the purpose I think.
But theres another way to do this using template properties, i#ve been using this approach myself a couple of times:
Write your navigation bar in the template (.dwt) file itself, then select the class= of your first menu item and choose .. (names might be off, I am using a non-English copy of DW): "modify > template > make attribute editable" from the main menu. Do so for all your menu items and name these new template properties something like "item_x_class"
You'll end up with something like this in your template source:
<div class="@@(item_1_class)@@">
and a matching
 in the header
Now, on each page, you can set the class within the template properties dialog ("modify > template properties"). If your main menu changes, it won't overwrite your template properties, but still update all pages when you do make a change to the menu.
If you're using multiple templates for your site, consider nesting templates, so the master template already includes your navbar and all subsequent templates will "inherit" changes to the navbar code (sans the editable class property).
Hope this helps.. or at least gives you an idea for further experiments..

Reasons why a phone cannot update:
1. It is a country variant - country variants often get the updates later, or have updates skipped altogether. A Turkish country variant product code for example, skipped v40 and updated from v31 straight to v50.
2. It is network branded - phones acquired from network providers or these providers' stores SIM free are branded, and will not get updates until the networks approve and modify the updates to their liking.
3. Special editions - These special editions are chartered editions and may never get updates unless taken to a Nokia Care center.

Recent files list is not updating after 10.1.13 update unless I open the file via the Network in Windows Explorer. If I open a file by accessing the file via a drive listed under Computer, the recent files list does not update. The recent files list updates only if I open the file from the same drive listed under Network.

Items on desktop not updating

The items on my desktop are not updating. For example, if i save a word file to the desktop, it will not appear on the desktop unless i restart. I can see it through the finder though. Any suggestions?

Try trashing the Desktop preference file and then log out/in.
The file is here:
/Users/you/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Desktop.plist
If that doesn't work, try downloading OnyX and use it to clear out your user cache files.

Calculations not updating in fillable PDF

I have a fillable PDF with columns of numbers requiring totals. The sum function works but if I then change one of the numbers in the column, the total does not update unless I also change another field (for example, a description field or some other field that seems to refresh the calculation). Is this a bug and is there any way to force a refresh to avoid having to manually prompt the form to update the sum?

OK. I see the option now, but it lists all of the calculations in the entire form. My problem is that once all of the form data is entered and then the user changes a value, the sum is not updated automatically. Hope I'm explaining this properly..

Shared Photo Streams Not Updating?

About a week ago I realized my shared photo streams were not updating. I am not recieving any new photos that my friends are posting, and when I upload new photos they don't go to any of my friends' devices. How can I fix this problem?

I have had the same problem - Shared Photo Streams (evidently) do not update dynamically. There is also no button to force an update in the photo app either.
On your iDevice by going into Settings > Photos & Camera and switching off "Shared Photo Streams". Go into your Photo app and check that they have been removed.
Now go back into the same Settings sub-menu and re-enable "Shared Photo Streams". Back in the Photo app, you will see the shared stream update with the correct photos.
I have the exact same problem with any shared photo streams I create on my iPhone - they do not appear on my iPad unless I do the above. The same goes for iPhoto/Aperture on my Mac.

Contacts & Calendars not updating

Any additions or changes I make in these areas are not updating on the iPod. I am doing this through iTunes. In one case, I deleted a contact and re-entered that person with the new phone number which was the only new item. Still won't update. When I sync the Pod, iTunes does say "updating calendars and contacts" but no go. Thanks for any help.

You ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" or "MacCleanse" that purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below. If you use any iWork applications, you may need to delete them and redownload them from the App Store.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon, usually with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.
