My phone has been in the Preparaing Iphone for Restore mode for over 2 hrs. I have the following on the itunes page

Itunes is restoring the software on this Iphone.
I have the Itunes icon and the USB cord display on the iphone home screen
So I still have 3 hrs to go??? WOW

- I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

I did a factory reset on my late 2008 MacBook from a Snow Leopard disc. It installed fine, but as soon as I began to use the computer (safari) it froze. Couldn't even force quit. So I held down the power button to turn it off, and now it won't start up. It goes to the grey Apple screen and just sits there loud as can be. Help! Please keep in mind I've not done anything like this before and am going to need a little hand-holding. Thanks in advance.
Hi. Don't worry it's nothing serious. Insert the Instal Disc (Snow Leopard) and press the C button while turning on the computer. Once you see the desktop, go to Utility and choose Disk Utility. Select the Macintosh Partition on the left window pane and then click on Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions on the bottom right corner. Wait for both processes to finish. Click on the Apple icon (top left corner) and choose quit. Your computer should restart. See if it reboots normally. If not you can always reinstall the OS following the same steps. Good luck!

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore. -
okay. when i connected my iphone 5 to itunes it replaced all of the data from my old iphone 3gs (contacts, apps, notes, bookmarks,photos, music, everything you can possibly think of) with my new iphone 5's data. You're iPhone was probably set to automatically sync with your iTunes upon plugging it in. Best option is to restore from a backup, either on iCloud or your computer.

She now has an iphone so this is going to be used by someone else in the family and should be simple to do but itunes just keeps booting it out even though it recognises that it was previously connected to our itunes account as all of the children were on my accountThat has nothing to do with an update server. Do the following:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

If you have multiple devices backing up to the Cloud, you will see all of them listed. You would click on each device to change what is backed up from that device. You can then delete your individual back-ups.
Once you have all your settings to your liking, you can then go back to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, and click on Back Up Now (bottom of the screen) to create a fresh backup with your new settings.

I have got a lot of apps, which are not installed on any of my iDevices anymore. is there a possibility to remove all those apps from iTunes without searching which ones are, and which ones aren't installed on one of my iDevices?
Assuming all the device(s) have been synced to this computer as its Home computer. The easiest way would be to delete all the apps from iTunes. After which connect your device(s) to the computer (iTunes) and transfer purchases from the device(s) by right click (control click) the device name in the left sidebar and the click transfer purchases. When done only the apps on your device(s) will be in you iTunes library.
