Do these stack trace results offer any insight?

I have two scripts that have been running happily for a couple of years.  The last couple of days they have thrown "The request has exceeded the allowable time limit Tag" -- one for a cfquery and another for a cfftp.  Can anyone tell me if these cfdumps contain any useful information that would help me identify why they timed out?  There are no entries in the application.log or exception.log related to these two incidents.

The cfquery and  cfftp may not necessarily have anything to do with the time-out. They appear in the error message most likely because they were the tags being executed when the time-out occurred.
The dumps tell me a RequestTimedOutException occurred. In all likelihood, the requests in question each exceeded the timeout value that you set in the Administrator. So, open the Administrator, go to Server Settings > Settings and confirm that the value for 'Timeout Requests after seconds' is what you expect.
The dumps also tell me the pages that are timing out are, respectively,
E:\Inetpub\wwwroot\scheduledTasks\processLMS\sendLLfile.cfm
E:\Inetpub\wwwroot\scheduledTasks\processLMS\readLL.cfm
Check the code of these pages. Long-running loops are perhaps the most frequent causes of timeout. In particular, identify loops that involve cfquery and cfftp, respectively. Under which condition do the loops end? Is there a possibility they run more times than you expect?

  • Empty Weblogic Server 8.1 SP1 Repeating Stack Trace

    Thanks in advance for any help and attention!
              An instance of Weblogic 8.1 SP1 on our UAT environment keeps on spitting out stack traces even though the only user accessing WL is via the admin console. There are no applications deployed on this platform.
              The stack trace is also intermittent and can't be attributed to a specific action. This is occuring on our UAT environment and on a WL install which is a copy of our production environment. But we don't get these stack traces on production??
              Here are some details of the server hosting WL 8.1 SP1 in our UAT environment.

  • Startflightrecording: any way to get methods deeper stack traces?(dept 64)

    I'm using jrcmd PID start_flightrecording in order to get some useful samplings, but it seems the stack traces are limited to depth 64 (i.e. in the Hot Methods's Predecessors view of JRockit Mission Control 4.1.0 I see only the last 64 frames) hence I miss important info about calling dynamics. I'm using jrockit-jdk1.6.0_37-R28.2.5-4.1.0. I've seen the [R27 version|http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13150_01/jrockit_jvm/jrockit/jrdocs/refman/optionXX.html] supported a -XX:Tracedepth argument, but I don't see it on [R28 documentation|http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E15289_01/doc.40/e15062/toc.htm].
    Any idea?

  • How to get Java source in applet stack trace to debug Java security manager

    How can I get line numbers for Java source in stack traces for my applet? I'm having a problem with my code-signing certificate. On one of my applets, I consistently get a NullPointerException inside the security dialog code in the JDK. As a result, either the "trust this applet" dialog never appears, or even though it appears, it defaults to untrusted because of the exception, so I can't access any local files (and that's a bit of a problem for an applet whose sole purpose is to upload files to our server). I unzipped src.zip in my JDK directory and set the debug flag for my Ant <javac> task as well as set debuglevel to "lines." Anything else? Here's the trace that I'm getting so far. See that after the NullPointerException it assumes that the user has denied permission. If I could read this Java source maybe I could figure out why it hates my code-signing certificate (jarsigner, BTW, never complains when I verify my jar).

    Rats, now that I look at the stack trace and compare to what's in the JDK srce.zip, it appears that most of this code is not part of the JDK source. I don't see any com/sun/deploy, etc.

  • Custom exceptions and carrying forward stack trace

    Hi, I have a question on exception handling.
    I have written an application which has several custom exceptions. When an exception occurs, sometimes I throw it and then when its caught, wrapping it in another exception like so:
    } catch (Exception e){
    throw new CollectionFailedException(this.getName() + " could not get collection", e);
    This works fine, but when I output the stacktrace, it only goes as far as the new exception, making things more difficult to debug. Is there any way of incrementing the stack trace using the first exception?
    Many thanks for any help offered!
    Marc

    Marc, this is expected behaviour. When you throw a new exception, the stacktrace starts off at the new one. A really nice explanation and sample code for creating new Exceptions and extending the Exception class is located at:
    http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-09-2001/jw-0914-exceptions.html
    Good luck, fstream

  • Unwanted stack trace in weblogic.log for thrown JSP Exceptions

    We are throwing a JSP exception within a custom tag when data validation
              errors occur; the errorPage for the JSP page is then invoked to show the
              appropriate errors. However, in the weblogic.log, a stack trace is shown
              indicating the exception (example below). We do not want this stack track
              shown unless there is a real "error" in our system vs. invoking the
              errorPage to show "application" errors. Is there any way to supress this,
              as we are not explicitly causing this to happen. It appears to be a
              weblogic feature. This causes us problems in finding true system errors
              that might be occurring due to these non-problems showing up in the
              weblogic.log.
              Thanks for the help.

    The design of the data entry pages is such that the error page is the same
              page as the data entry page, and a validation JSP tag validates the data and
              if it finds a problem, it will set some variables and throw a JSP exception
              to redisplay the page. Unfortunately, we are forced to live with this
              design. Are you aware of any mechanism to suppress the automatic logging of
              thrown JSP exceptions in the weblogic log?

  • FlexUnit 4 assert failures have "explosive" stack traces

    With FlexUnit 4 in Flash Builder 4 Plugin Beta, I created 1 suite with 1 class with 1 default failing test method. When I ran it, the assert failure had a call stack 60 methods high. Is this a bug?
    The stack trace has several "async" methods, e.g. applyExplosivelyAsync(). This seems strange because  I'm not using async at all. Is this intended behavior?

    Not a bug and fully expected behavior.
    FlexUnit 4 is really just a collection of runners that can handle just about anything that is thrown at it as well as handle any pluggable runners that others write. The level of extensibility comes with some complexity. So, by the time that single method of yours is executed, there are actually probably a hundreds methods in the framework for getting everything setup, inspected and ready to go.
    The stacktrace always looks up the stack from your failure to the last point where a particular chunk of code execution began, so the 60 is basically just that number of methods. There isn't a whole lot that can be done about it save for eventually provinding filtering to eliminate showing some of our stuff and making the track more legible.
    Regarding the async thing, your method isn't async but FlexUnit4 is. Inside of the Flash Player we are operating on frames. We don't have the luxury of threads and the like that Java has, so we have to handle the possibility that something might be async on a much deeper level. We also do something called green threading where we actually watch how much time we take in execution. Once we have taken 90% ish of the time available in a given frame, we wait until the next one before we begin executing again. This allows us to run long and compelx test suites without getting a timeout from the flash player (which happens if any single frame takes longer than 15 seconds to execute). So, even though your method isn't doing anything async, all of these other pieces have to account for the chance that something will be. Hence the reason that you see async pieces in the stack trace.
    Hope that helps,
    Mike

    Rigoberto,
    This sounds like a OC4J/J2EE issue that is not related to JHeadstart. To simplify the test case, you could create a simple drag-and-drop ADF application without JHeadstart and see if the same problem occurs there. Can you please log a TAR at MetaLink ( http://metalink.oracle.com/ ), or ask this question at the OC4J/J2EE forum at OC4J ? Thanks.

  • Citrix problem - can anyone offer any advice please ?

    I'm trying to connect to work (Windows environment) with Citrix ICA Client 7.00.407. I use a VPN connection to the server which works fine, and then I try to access a Published Application through ICA client.( This is what I've been instructed to do by my IT people).
    I manage to get as far as the grey window where it says "Checking your Credentials" (which I put into the client editor beforehand) when I get a message saying that I must have Terminal Server User Access permissions to log on to this remote computer. I click OK and the Citrix client quits.
    My IT dept. have assured me that I have these Terminal Server User Access permissions. That's the point when look upon my Mac like an alien and cannot help any further.
    Can anyone offer any suggestions please ?
    Paul

  • How reliable is stack trace?

    Hi there,
    I am debugging a core on solaris 10. the shared libraries are compiled and linked without -g0 and majority of the symbols are removed using a linker map. Now when I loaded dbx and do a "where", the stack trace only shows

    I am not surprised because .so does not have too many symbols to begin with. I used the manual technique to map each frame to a shared library:
    1. take address of the function in each frame,
    2. compare against base address of a shared library from output of "proc -map" (it shows where each so is loaded into the process).
    3. see 1. falls into the range of which library displayed in 2.
    4. substract base address from 1. (used for later)
    After that, I went ahead to locate function, what I did was pull the exact source code and compile them without applying the linker map (still without -g0). I hope this newly compiled so is the same as the production ones in terms of function offsets:
    1. nm the_faulty_so_recompiled.so
    2. sorted functions in nm output by its offset,
    3. compare 4. in previous step against these offsets.
    but I find the result is sometimes not reliable because there is no way some of the function is called by previous frame, it is just impossible if you look at the source code.
    Can someone tell me if I am doing something terribly wrong here?
    BTW, parameters for each functions show in the "where" stack frames are not the same as I expected, occasionally there is something like 0x1 or 0x17, what are those?
    Thanks.

    but the core is not reproducible, -g0 version is not particularly helpful in that case. What I am hoping is the following:
    1. the release version is compiled without -g0 and with a linker map to eliminate 99% of symbols.
    2. recompiled version is with exact same source code and without -g0 and without linker map.
    same compiler and everything else. I would expect the function offset is the same in those 2 cases. correct? If not, what have I done wrong?
    I am ok with just knowing which function is at fault so without -g0 is ok for me. But why I am seeing stack trace still does not make sense? What is wrong with my calculation of function offset?
    Is there some kind of remapping the loaded address of library going on here so I have to manually calculate some offset to get the real function offset?
    Thanks.

  • JVM stopped printing stack traces... :(

    Earlier today I was messing around with trying to re-direct Standard Output to a file, but now that I've commented out that section of code and have it going to the console again it isn't printing stack traces! Instead of something like:
    C:\> java AlarmClock
    The current time is 5:00 PM.
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
    at AlarmClock.main(AlarmClock.java: 182)
    C:\>
    I just get:
    C:\> java GameTest
    The current time is 5:00 PM.
    java.lang.NullPointerException
    C:\>
    It's giving me these really horrible C++ flashbacks ("segmentation fault" -- NOOOOooooo....!). I haven't ever reassigned System.err to anything, and I've definitely deleted the part of my code that had the System.setOut statement in it. I'm getting output to the console when I do System.out.println so it's not like Out is still going to the file. I just tried duplicating the error in a separate program and I got the stack trace just fine.
    Any idea how I can get my stack traces back?
    Thanks,
    Ditchdigger

    Try this:
    try {
    // Place code here
    } catch (NullPointerException ex) {
    ex.printStackTrace();
    }

  • Good stack trace for runtime errors?

    Is there any way to get a good stack trace for runtime errors, as in real line numbers and source file text? all i can find via google is posts about 'javap -c', but the posts are a couple of years old. i am hoping we've made some progress in this area.

    Right now some of the device menufacturers are providing thier tools for realtime on device debugging. As per my knowledge, Motorola, SonyErricsson & Nokia are providing these types of tools.
    Amonst those I have used Motorola KDWP debuger. Its really very helpful. There is one other tool named "MIDWay" which provides trace of debug statments like "System.out.println" on the screen, while running application of the device.

  • WLST, how do I suppress unwanted stack traces and make WLST less verbose?

    Hi everyone,
    I've just started out with WLST but have ended up somewhat confused. My script works as intended but is very verbose.
    Suppose I want to log in:
    try:

    except WLSTException, err:
         print str(err)
         print "Run with option \"-h\" for help"The password is wrong so I get something like this printed out by me:

    Error occured while performing connect : User: wm714, failed to be authenticated. Use dumpStack() to view the full stacktrace

    I don't want to confuse the user with all that! I found this:
    http://objectmix.com/weblogic/529822-wlst-exception-handling-unwanted-stack-trace.html
    Which discusses WLS.commandExceptionHandler.setSilent(1) I'm running on WLS 10.3.0.0 and can execute that statement but it has no effect. I didn't even know about the WLS-object and I can find no documentation on commandExceptionHandler.
    On the matter of verbosity, is there any way to get rid of stuff like:
    Location changed to domainRuntime tree. This is a read-only tree with DomainMBean as the root.
    For more help, use help(domainRuntime)I avoid using the "interactive" commands like cd and use stuff like getMBean("domainRuntime:/ServerRuntimes/" + appServer.getName()
    + "/JMSRuntime/" + appServer.getName() + ".jms/JMSServers") but I still get the clutter printed out.
    Thanks!

    Workaround:
    wlstOut = tempfile.mktemp(suffix="_wlst.txt")
    redirect(wlstOut, "false")
    ... do useful stuff
    stopRedirect()
    os.remove(wlstOut)I would have preffered to turn off the messages (yes I could try /dev/null) but this will do. A funny thing is that the stack trace I wrote about doesn't appear in the log file. Somehow "redirect" must have a nice side effect.
