Do we need all those software pre-installed with N...

If you look at the application manager after you install V30 firmware, you will see that there are many software pre-installed with it.
When the phone starts, the main standby screen goes out for a second now, and it is obvious that these programs use alot of phone's resources.
Do you keep them? Or have you already deleted them? If you have, which ones? Do you think we need them? Or if we deleted them the phone might not work properly?
I just think that those software use alot of phone's resources. They were not there with V20 or V21.
Any Suggestions? Thank You.

I know I have noticed it once or twice but it doesn't bother me really. As long as it only does it on the standby screen and not while watching a video, for example (which is the case as far as I can see), I'm not really sure what the problem is. And yes, the screen does go blank for a second or two at startup, but there too it's only once so it doesn't bother me either.
A lot of the software can be got rid of. You can start by uninstalling N-gage if you don't have any intention of using it. That will also get rid of a certain number of other things in the application manager. I also got rid of the "Welcome!" application and the "settings wizard". All in all that'll removed about 15MB of stuff.
This screen refreshing does seem to be doing it only on "Standby Screen." Not during other activities such as watching a video or something. But it is so rare, so nothing really bothering though. I just wanted to let people know not to panic, that's all. You may see it someday.
About uninstalling software, what about those weird programs like adlib, stuff like that. Do you think I can delete everything on Application Manager?

  • Re: Want to get rid of Toshiba Softwares pre-installed on Satellite L650-165

    Hi,
i just bought my Satellite Pro L650-165 and there are a number of softwares that come pre-installed with it.
Such as Toshiba Tempro, Eco Mode, Bulliten Board etc etc.
Considering the fact that i will be using this for my university i will be running numerous ram intensive programs on it.
So i want to free up all the ram i can by uninstalling all these utlities.
I know what you are thinkin... yes just because they are installed doesnt mean they are running. But is it safe to?
I know it should be but still asking. i just want to be left with plain ol windows7 minus all the 'cool softwares'. any precautions?
oh and although i have created the recovery discs using the builtin utility to do so.. i was thinking of ordering one from toshiba too. where to go for that?

    >So i want to free up all the ram i can by uninstalling all these utlities.
I know what you are thinkin... yes just because they are installed doesnt mean they are running. But is it safe to?
Even if such tools are installed, this does not mean that they would run in the background and would waste a part of the RAM.
I would not recommend uninstalling such tools but to disable it from automatic startup.
    How to do that? Esay
You can do this in msconfig.
Start msconfig and go to start up tab.
There you can just uncheck the tools which you dont need at the beginning.
Save the changes and reboot the unit.
If you would need one of the disabled tools again in startup tab, then you could enable this
Note; disabling the process in msconfig does not mean that you could not start these tools manually
Disabling the tools (processes) in msconfig means ONLY that these tool would not be started automatically when the windows boots up.

  • 35gb of software pre-installed in Intel iMac ?

I received my new iMac Core Duo today and noticed that I have only 215gb available on what was supposed to be a 250gb HDD. Does this computer REALLY ship with that much software pre-installed? When I click on "applications" and go to "info", it only says that there is 4.37gb of Apps. Where's the other 30gb?
Any reassurance that this is normal would be wonderful!

The iLife support files will be accounting for a bunch of that. GarageBand's loops take up almost 2GB, and iDVD's themes take up over 1.5GB. So there's almost 4GB just for those two apps (those files reside in the Library -> Application Support folder, not in the Applications folder).
Note as well that a "250GB" hard drive doesn't really give you 250GB usable. This is caused by a difference in how different entities define a 'GB'. All drive and media manufacturers quote capacity using 1,000 bytes per kilobyte while other entities, particularly in computer operating systems, use 1024 bytes per kilobyte (there's a new term that has been proposed for the 1024 usage to clear up the confusion, but no one uses it). So a 250GB hard drive really has a usable capacity of about 232GB.
So taking your 232GB capacity and subtracting 4.4GB for the apps themselves, 4GB for the support files, and probably about 1.5GB for the OS, plus some associated other files (mostly invisible) and you come out about right.

I have an apple iMac G5 running Mac OS 10.4.11 can i upgrade it to 10.5?
If so will i also loose all the software currently installed on my Mac? eg. Adobe software.
I have moved countries (opposite side of world) so i do not have my install disks, or the disks that came with my Mac.
Where can i get the 10.5 upgrade from?
Do i need my original disks that came with my Mac?
    - Thanks if anyone can help
    Note:
I have never had any problems with my G5, it's been my awesome helper these past 7 years, I can't say the same thing for my new Mac, but it seems now my poor G5 is slowly being made redundent because they no longer write software for it.
I don't see why i should pay for a new Mac because my old one does not always function on the web, or having a new printer because it does not support the new software.
My New Mac Laptop has had no end of troubles since i bought it less than a year ago.
What happened to Mac being a sign of Quality??

First off, all upgrades can potentially break a system.  First and foremost, backup your data before installing anything.  Next read this tip as 10.5 loses Classic compatibility, and has these other issues outlined on the tip: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2275

    Hi,
Need oracle 10g software for install on OS windows 7.

You can download the file from
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/10203vista-087538.html
and install the same with ignoreSysprereqs option at command line.
However, for a certified combination, you need to download 10.2.0.5.0 patchset (patch 8202632) from Metalink and apply on top of this installation.

  • You don't need all those previews

Seriously! You really don't need all those previews.
I have an article up now on when you actually do need previews and how to make them when needed:
    http://homepage.mac.com/bagelturf/
More on the mysteries of previews soon.

Well, I don't think it is correct that previews are
only used for slide shows. For example, previews are
used for on-screen display in a situation where you
store your master images on a separate volume and
this volume is offline. Previews can be extremely
useful if the storage capacity on your computer is
    limited (e.g laptop).
    MacBook Pro 15
      Mac OS X
    (10.4.7)
Of course, but that's not a situation I will deal with as I don't use a laptop. Also, you can make just those previews that you will need for a presentation. I don't (for my purposes, yours may differ) see a need to keep 20 or 30 thousand preview files on my hardrive. It certainly faster and more economical to kick out the 4 or 500 previews you may need for a presentation than maintaining a whole image library worth.
Also, though it would eventually finish, as the preview's were being generated it bogged down my machine and made Aperture function like it did in version 1.1.2, sticky sliders, beachballs etc. heck even with the previews this version was still much better than the last. W/O the prev. generation, my iMac G5 is like a brand new fast computer. The speed and functionally gain is night and day. Now maybe when it finished making the thousands of previews it was generating the speed-up would occur, I suspect it would. But all those previews, to me, are just a waste of resources.

IMNSHO, always go with a 64 bit OS.  With Win 7 32 you will probabaly be able to use all of your RAM, but if you add more RAM at some point you won't be able to use it without going to a 64 bit OS.
A 32 bit system can address 4G of address space but Windows tends to reserve the top 1G (more or less) for addressing installed (and future) peripheral devices and graphics card RAM.  Any RAM above ~3G simply goes to wast.

  • Powershell script to findout all the software products installed in the SharePoint farm

    Hi All,
Please find the simple and accurate power shell code implemented by me to generate report to get all the softwares installed on each server in the farm.It would be very helpful to create reports at farm level.
    $servers = get-content F:\temp\Servers.txt
    $logfile = "F:\temp\test\AllProductsInstalled.csv"
    Add-content $logfile -value "ServerName,ProductName,Version,vendor,serialnumber"
    foreach ($server in $servers)
    $z = gwmi win32_product -ComputerName $server
    foreach($a in $z)
    add-content $logfile -value "$($a.__server),$($a.name),$($a.Version),$($a.IdentifyingNumber),$($a.vendor)"
Please provide the all the severnames in the text file "Servers.txt" in above code.

Why not do it in PowerShell?
    $servers=get-content F:\temp\Servers.txt
    $logfile='F:\temp\test\AllProductsInstalled.csv'
    Get-WmiObject win32_product -ComputerName $servers |
    Select-Object @{N='ServerName';E={$_.__server}},
    @{N='ProductName';E={$_.Name}},
    Version,Vendor,
    @{N='SerialNumber';E={$_.IdentifyingNumber}} |
    Export-Csv $logfile -NoType
It is much easier to let PowerShell do the work for you.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I want to buy a used Mac for video editing and there are alot of them with FCPX and other software already installed. If I buy one of these will I be able to do future updates to the software?

If they were downloaded from the Mac App store, no. In fact, the licenses are not transferable. Technically, it's not legal to sell you the machine with apps from the Mac App store still installed.

  • Imac pre-installed with Lion?

I am switching from Mr. Gate's hardware/software... However, since I will be a 'newbie'...
I do NOT want Snow Leopard on a custom ordered Imac 27... I am reading of horror' stories with users who have 'down-loaded' Lion over existing
    Snow Leopard OS.
How can I custom order a new Imac 27 ... to have Lion and only Lion ... Pre-installed?
    Thank you!

    Clipper100,
First thing to remember these forums are technical help forums so you are getting a very skewed point of view. It's kind of like visiting a hospital to get a gauge on the overall health of a population!
However if you do order a new machine online from the Apple Store it will almost certainly be shipped with Lion. If you buy a machine from a brick and mortar Apple Store you can ask that Lion be installed before you leave in the event you buy a machine that came with Snow Leopard pre-installed. I'm sure they would be happy to do this service for you.
Whenever you purchase any machine (Windows, Mac, etc..) during a transition of operating systems there is going to be a little confusion until the transition is complete. Apple makes things easier and IMHO Lion was by far the easiest installation to date. My current iMac came with Tiger and I've updated it to Leopard, Snow Leopard and now Lion. All installations were easy and flawless because I keep my system healthy. Those that tend to have problems have unhealthy systems to begin with or simply cannot follow basic instructions.
Don't worry about it buy with confidence, I'm sure your experience will be a good one.
BTW because you are new to OS X I'd recommend bookmarking and using:

  • How do you reinstall iMovie when it came pre-installed with the Mac?

    Hi,
I was wondering how you reinstall imovie 11 (i think) when the software came pre-installed on the Mac. I purchased my Mac in August 2011 it is the iMac (Mid 2011 model) I am running Lion. No discs came with the Mac for the option to reinstall.
The reason i wish to reinstall it is because it keeps crashing on startup. I load the application and it opens but then after a few moments of loading up the rainbow wheel appears and never goes away, the app then is none responsive and I have to force quite the app.
    Any help would be appriciated
    Cheers

    Hi Ralph,
I live in the UK and i have called apple support but it is all automated and as i don't have apple care they said that i would need to open an incident which would cost £35. iMovie on the Mac App store is only £10.50!
do you know of another way of contacting them for an issue like this? is there anyone i can speak to on an online chat?

  • Mavericks install incomplete. No Apple installers on HD. Will I be able to upgrade to Yosemite and will it fix all that didn't install with Mavericks upgrade? Very slow connection speeds 30 hrs to download Mavericks. Tried re-install; no help/

Ever since upgrade to Mavericks I have been having problems which are too numerous to mention. I finally found a program from a UCBerkley professor called Pacifier which indicated 4000+ of 400,000+ files and folders did not install. I was unable to go further to try to fix everything because Pacifier can't find ANY Apple installers on my HD. It recommended I download the Mavericks installer without reinstalling to continue; however, after having done so (very slow connection; takes 30 hours to download) and although the installer appears in apps while downloading it disappears and NO Apple installer packages can be found on my hard drive. I tried to download Yosemite once and it indicated my system wasn't eligible for the upgrade. Its' download time was similar to Mavericks; 28+ hours.
    I am using a Macbook Pro mid-2012 version OS X 10.9.5 (13F34); Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5; Memory  4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3; Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB.
Regardless of how many files and apps I remove my memory is being eaten up to the point I can hardly do anything at all. There are no civil words for how frustrated I am. Someone please help me.

Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Installing CS3 on a Computer that is pre-installed with CS4

I purchased a laptop that is licensed to pre-load CS4 Master suite. I receive no cd or serial number or anything. I called Adobe to make sure that this was legal and was told that Adobe does do this with big sellers. Anyway I received the first laptop and did a migration and because I have other CS versions on my computer the license for the CS4 disappeared. I sent the computer back and I now have another. I am teaching at two different schools and still need my CS3. Adobe advised me to not install CS3 because they share some folders or something. Is there a way to install CS3 without ruining CS4?

never heard of preinstalled Adobe software
to install CS3 you must uninstall CS4 then install CS3 then reinstall CS4.
CS3 and CS4 both coexist together.

  • How to downgrade 10.8 ML to 10.7 Lion, My Mac was pre-install with 10.7, and the Copy of M.L was not purchased for app store .

I am bit confuse, how to deal with it, somewhere i read that I should erase the Hardrive and use Internet recovery but not sure. If I reinsatll it form 10.8 Recovery disk it ask for apple ID , but I didn't purchase ML.

Great! Then it came with Lion pre-installed and all you have to do is Internet Recovery as mende1 pointed out. COMMAND+R+OPTION keys held until you see a spinning globe then you can erase the drive using OS X Utilities and Disk Utility then reinstall Lion from the OS X Utilities menu.
I'm running ML that I got from the App Store on a mid-2011 Mac Mini. Internet Recovery ALWAYS gives me the ability to reinstall Lion which is what was pre-installed.
You don't want to use the current Recovery HD which is Mountain Lion. You want to use Internet Recovery.
