Dock scratching on the iPhone 4S

Will the back of my iphone 4S scratch over time due to the dock, or is the glass treated enough to not scratch?

This matters because I am looking at an addon lens from Photojojo which describes its wide angle lens as 0.67x wide, and to understand its impact I would like to know the lens size of the iPhone 4S.  Apple discloses lens speed in its specs but doesn't disclose anything about lens size.

OK. So something went wrong. Restore it and see if it happens again.

  • Does the connector in the Universal dock work with the iPhone?

My iPhone now has a thick rubber case making it too big for the iPhone dock.
I have a old iPod universal dock but am not clear if it work with the iPhone. The connector looks similar except that the ends are not quite flush. Will it work?
I don't want to damage a working device.

I've used the universal dock with my iPhone, but it isn't all that stable. You can also just connect the dock connector cable directly to the bottom of the phone; you don't have to use a dock.

  • Is there a docking station for the iphone lightning which allows you to either go hands free or to connect your headphone socket while charging

I am trying really hard to get rid of my hands free bt phone with answering machine, but I cannot find anywhere that has an iphone 5 lightning cradle that allows my headphone to still be connected while the iphone is in the dock.  does anyone know of any?

Not sure that that really helps me at all, but thanks for reading the question.

  • Scratches under the iPhone glass

    Hello
Thought I'd post here as I have noticed a couple of scratches have appeared on my iPhone, they are only slight, but I have no idea how they occured and they are noticeable.
The reason I've posted is that they are under the glass, with no visible marks or damage whatsoever to any other part of the phone. The scratches are right at the edge of the glass at the bottom of the phone below the home button. It's almost as if some internal component has scratched at the back of the glass and removed the black coating.
I doubt I can take the phone back, I've had it 3 weeks and the scratches are only small, but I'm a bit disappointed now that for the remainder of my 18 month contract, I will have a less than perfect phone through no fault of my own as far as I can tell.
Does anyone have any ideas how these marks might have appeared? Has anyone else had this happen? I want to make sure I avoid it getting any worse...

    Hey Andrew
Yes, that's exactly what has happened to mine. I have been very careful with the phone and there is no damage to the surface so I am at a loss as to where the marks have come from. They look very similar to yours but are at the bottom of the phone rather than the top. I might be able to get a picture of them later to compare. I have two, and they are only at the edge like yours.
Not sure what to do, I feel like a bit of a nit picker, but at the same time, I genuinely don't think I've caused them so why should I put up with them for the next 17 and a half months?
With the iPhone shortages in the UK, I'd feel a bit of a git going into a store and asking for a new one because mine was slightly damaged while other people still can't get hold of one at all, but again, that's not really my problem.
I feel like trying to get it replaced, but I have a feeling that won't be easy...

  • Are there any docking stations for the iPhone 5?

Bose, Phillips, Sony...don't seem to make units with the lightning connector.

You have to buy "Lightning to 30 pin adapter" so iPhone 5 can fit on docking stations that works with older versions of iPhone, available from online Apple Store for $29. Maybe can get it from other places like WalMart or Amazon, etc.

  • After the Ios 6 update, I have lost my Sound for Music, Tweets. i have restored the phone, tried adjusting the settings, and even have Docked and undocked the Iphone 4S, thinking it might be in Dock mode. Headphones work, Dock plays Sounds. Ideas?

Lost Sound after Ios Upgrade to 6.0.1. All worked before upgrade. Has to be a problem with Software upgrade.
    Tried adjusting Settings. Same Problem
    Tried restoring Phone. Same Problem
Read some Forums. Tried suggestions such as buying an Song from ITUNES, Docking and undocking Device. Same Problem
    Ideas?
Sound will be heard  when Docked or through Headphones. Even Volume Bar doesn't appear either when playing music without Headphones or being docked.
Similar to others, this phone worked 100% prior to the Upgrade to Ios 6.0.1

Do you have the mute switch engaged? It's the little slider over the volume buttons on the side. If you can see orange, it's engaged. Slide it the other way.

  • A small scratch on the iPhone 4S screen

    Hello,
I've got a small scrarch on the screen, not sure where I managed to get that, is there a way to fix it? The phone is still under warranty, but I am not sure if this type of problem is even covered by the warranty. What are my best options? Screen protector, some compound, hardware modification, leave as is?
    Thank you,
    Alex

It will cost 199 for Apple to replace the phone. They don't just replace the screen. Kind of alot for a small scratch. Just get a screen protector and you shouldn't notice it.

  • Do I need to get a different docking system to fit the Iphone 5?

Do I need to get a different docking system for the iphone 5 than what I currently have?

The question is, what do you currently have?  If a system for the older 30-pin dock connector, you will need a converter for the 30-pin dock to Lighning connector.  See the Apple store for the adapter.
    Such as: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD823ZM/A/lightning-to-30-pin-adapter?fnode=3c

  • I have an iPhone 4S and bought the Universal Dock, I use the iPod and move photos, but I can not move slides on TV with the HDMI cable. What can I do?

I always use Keynote for presentations and would like to use the Universal Dock to put the Iphone and move slides. Someone got something?

Have you tried this without the universal dock?

  • As I can remove the scratches of a iphone 4?

as I can remove the scratches of a iphone 4??

If you are asking if you can remove minor scratches off the iphone 4 glass then there is a solution depending on how bad the scratches are.
    1. You can pay to have a repair center replace the glass. OR
    2. You can use an automotive glass windscreen scratch repair compound and special pad - on a certain online auction site for $10. Remember to tape up any holes or places where excess compound could get in to the phone and rub slowly. I tried this and it worked! But be very careful not to get compound into the speaker or gaps.
If you can afford it - do option 1 its much safer!

  • Does the iPhone 3G work with iPod Hi-Fi?

As the topic says, will I be able to dock a iPhone 3G into my iPod Hi-Fi?

not sure if this applies here...
    reposted for discussion sake:
    ..The Charging System...
Most chargers on the market today are designed to charge via USB or via 12v through the firewire portion of apple dock pins (pins 19,20 12V DC and pins 29,30 Ground). This was an easy choice for the manufacturers because your car is already a 12V based system that kept the charging solutions inexpensive to make. If they already had 12V available, why step it down to 5V to charge via the USB pins? Makes sense right? As you know, Apple has eliminated 12V charging from their newer units but has left a sensing circuit on the firewire pins just to tell you that your old device doesnt work anymore. Your existing chargers will not harm the Iphone, but they are certainly useless.
The new way to charge is through the USB pins on the Apple dock connector ( pin 16 USB GND, pin 23 USB Power 5 VDC, pin 25 USB Data negative, pin 27 USB Data positive ). BUT, you cannot just apply 5V to pin 23 and ground to pin 16. The Iphone is also sensing voltage on USB Data positive (approx 1.8v) and USB Data negative (approx 2.5V).
    ...The Audio System...
If you had an older gen Ipod like an Ipod Video then the audio outputs were real easy, it always put line out audio through the audio pins in the dock connector. The Iphone is a different animal. The audio and serial pins are still the same on the dock connector, BUUT, there is an accessroy pin (pin 21) that senses the type of accessory that is plugged in. If the correct resistance is NOT on pin 21 then the Iphone completely ignores the connection and does not redirect the audio to the dock. Thus most of your old Ipod Interfaces are now obsolete..
I personally have an IPAC-OEM interface (pac-audio.com) to my Buick Regal that worked great with my Ipod Video (charge, audio, steering wheel controls). When I plug in my Iphone 3G, it gives me the aircraft warning (I hit no) then audio Video works fine. It wont charge, but again, audio, video and steering wheel controls work as they should. I sent them an email this morning asking when they will have an Iphone solution. They may already have it, but havent updated their site.
I also have a ic-ALPA interface from PAC that connects to my Alpine stereo in my other car via the Alpine AI-net. It will do charge and audio on my Ipod Video, on my 3G it does nothing. Ofcourse as we've seen above, it's a 12V charger which does nothing on the 3G and it lacks the proper indicator on pin 21 to tell the 3G what to do.
There's a lot of manufacturers that are going to have to play catchup for a while. Wonder how long that will take?
So, I think that settles it for the most part, I hope this helps.

  • Is there a dock that fits an iPhone without removing case?

I have one of those clear plastic Belkin iPhone cases and it's a real pain in the a to have to remove this very tight fitting case to stick the iPhone into the dock to sync it. I use the "travel" cable right now but it would sure be nice to put it in the dock along with the iPhone bluetooth. The case prohibits this, though but... does anybody know if there is one out there yet that allows (i.e., a case) that does allow for putting the thing in the dock OR is there any sort of adapter?
Does that new 3-pack of universal dock adapters from Apple solve this problem or does that just work with the iPhone if it has no case on it?

Apparently in between my original post and now, I found an equivalent to that 'sendstation' thing that says it DOES work with the iPhone. Here:
    http://store.iskingadget.com/2787-165.html
I personally don't like the design all that much with the little wire gizmo that has to be used in some devices but I think it will work for my purposes which is basically to be able to put my iPhone into the DOCK vs. using the travel cable and to do this without removing my clear plastic case it's in.
My big complaints about the current spate of case designs and such:
    1. No way to dock the iPhone in it's beautiful sleek convenient dock (especially the one that allows for charging BOTH Bluetooth and phone together) without removing case unless you get one of those overkill leather cases which hide the beauty of the iPhone's gorgeous design
    2. The clear plastic cases (which are my favorite as they obliterate the design of the iPhone the least) don't have a really good firm clip for clipping onto a belt. They have a funkier paper-clip design on the best of them. Why these designers decided not to use the great clip design on the clear plastic xtremecases made for the iPods, I don't know.
Any case designers here? Get it together, people.

  • Slight scratches in the black part of the back

    Hi,
being said in the subject I've got some slight scratches or rather abrasions in the black part of the back of the iPhone. Probably caused due to the cradle because they are all in the same line. Anyone expierenced the same? And is there a way to get them off?

I'm continually amazed at how much people are concerned about slight scratches to the iPhone. I know it's a great looking piece of kit, but it's bound to suffer some wear and tear given it's usage pattern. I'm reminded of the time I bought a new car and had sleepless nights when i found a small scratch on it. After a few months, it didn't really bother me that much.
The part you need to protect is the screen, which you look at all the time. It's pretty scratch resistant, but it makes sense to buy some sort of case to protect it when it's in your pocket with keys and/or pens. There are plenty of threads on the "best" case around.
If the scratches are a real bother, you can easily buy a replacement back cover from ebay for $15 at: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230212988581.
But note that doing this yourself will void the warranty.
