Document library on CD for distribution using Director

I am a teacher trying to create a fun and engaging CD for my students in which I can distribute all of the documents/audio files/movies etc for their subject at the beginning of the school year. Rather than just put them onto a CD/DVD as a boring finder/my documents CD I wanted to create an interactive button and menu driven application. I could use Dreamweaver and use it as a web based application but was wondering if anyone knew of a good tutorial that would take me from start to finish on this (what I believ would be a) relatively simple project.
Thanks Neil

Hi,
Quoting is always an estimate of the amount of time you think
it will take
multiplied by the rate you feel comfortable working at. If
you're doing something
new, it's always good to build in an extra
testing/contingency amount to cover
things that may take longer than expected. I find with most
projects, things
typically take much longer than expected.
Another thing you could do is do a test with converting one
video and see how it
works online. That may give you an idea of what's involved
and the time it takes.
When you first mentioned the project, I did not consider the
use of Xtras like
FileIO, Buddy or others that won't work in Shockwave and sao
would ahve to be taken
out or rewritten. My CD video to web project was very simple.
The bulk of the
conversation took 2 days. The longer bits were the building
of the FLV SWF player
and testing. I just decided that FLV would be the best video
format to use. It is
easy to create, and works well on the web.
If you'd like more advice to compare what I did with your
project, feel free to
email me directly.
Hope that helps.

  • How do I save opened documents in the Documents or Recent folders for future use?

    I open several PDFs from my emails but would like to access them through adobe at a later date.  None of them remain in the Documents or Recent folders for me to review the next day.  Can anything be done about this?

  • Error when trying to retrieve Document Library in Sharepoint Hosted App using REST

    I have created the following REST request in order to retrieve the root folder of a Document Library added to a Sharepoint Hosted App
    getProductDocumentFolder: function () {
    $.ajax({
    url: _spPageContextInfo.webServerRelativeUrl +
    "/_api/web/GetFolderByServerRelativeUrl('/Lists/ProductDocuments')",

    alert(JSON.stringify(err));
    The Document Library was added to the App from the Add > New Item menu in Visual Studio. I selected List and Selected Document Library from the Create a customizable list... dialog. The list is defined as shown in the picture below.
    I get the generic error "Value does not fall within the excepted range".
    I have tried both
    "/_api/web/GetFolderByServerRelativeUrl('/Lists/ProductDocuments')"
    and
    "/_api/web/GetFolderByServerRelativeUrl('/ProductDocuments')"
    for the Document Library URL both I get the same error in both cases.
    What am I missing here?

    Problem solved.
    It turns out there should be NO leading '/' in the relative URL despite the example shown in http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/dn292553.aspx#Folders with "/Shared Folder".
    The correct GetFolderByServerRelativeUrl-parameter in my case is 'Lists/Productdocuments'.
    Unsure whether example is wrong or if it applies to other cases than mine.

  • Document management for home use

    Hello,
    I am going to / wanting to scan all documents (bills, insurance stuff, tax, ...) that I receive and want to archive it on my machine. For that I'm looking for some document management system suitable for home use. While I'm not afraid of some configuration (heavy Emacs user), I'm not very fond of big fat solutions that involve setting up an entire LAMP system (ok, the L is already there ;-).
    Format will be PDFs mostly that have some meta data added (date, tags, received from, ...).
    There is TagSpaces http://www.tagspaces.org/ which goes into the right direction, but still looking for alternatives....
    I also thought about adapting Emacs org-mode to it....
    GUI prefered, but CLI may be fine too.
    What do you use? Any ideas and thought welcome!
    Thanks!

    Calibre?
    I use that for all my pdf's. Great tagging system, and if you give all files a common tag you could setup a virtual library inside to keep it more together, apart from your other pdf's/ebooks.

  • Is it possible to Automate configuration of skydrive pro client for a document library

    Hi Everyone,
    I would like to automate the document library url(configuration) for skydrive pro client programatically.Please let me know if this is possible and how can we do this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sailaja Kaladurgi.

    It's not possible to automate that. Although you can trigger a standard word-search using JavaScript, you can't do anything with the results - they just appear in the user interface. There's no GREP functionality so you can't search for an extended block of page content, and there's also no way to select or extract a specific region of a page into a new file using scripts.
    The only way I could think of doing this would be in InDesign - assuming each question starts with a distinct element that can be GREPped for, you could separate each one onto a new page by running a search/replace that add a page break in front of the element. You can then export all the 'single-question' pages as images, and use PS automation to trim the whitespace.

  • How to extract audit log data from every document library in site collection using powershell?

    Hi All,
    I have n number of document library in one site collection,
    My query is- How to extract audit log data from every document library in a site collection using powershell?
    Please give solution as soon as possible?

    Hi inguru,
    For SharePoint audit log data, These data combine together in site collection. So there is no easy way to extract audit log data for document library.
    As a workaround, you can export the site collection audit log data to a CSV file using PowerShell Command, then you can filter the document library audit log data in Excel.

  • Using Visio Web Access Web Part to dynamically display visio drawings in document library according to which folder a user is viewing

    I have a document library web part in SharePoint 2010. There is also a Visio Web Access Web Part on the same site, side by side with the doc lib. In the folder structure of the document library web part (it is pretty complex and a few levels deep),
    each folder contains one and one only Visio diagram. I want the Visio web access web part to display the visio drawing that exists in what ever folder the user is currently browsing. For example.. if the file structure is as follows below and a user clicks
    on folder A from the list I would like the Visio Web Access web part to display the visio diagram that lives in folder A. Same for any folder at all anywhere in the structure that the user is viewing, dynamically changing as the user browses the directory.
    Is this possible?
    1.0 Folder A
      1.1 Word Doc
      1.2 Visio Doc
      1.3 Folder a.1
        1.3.1 Word Doc
        1.3.2 Visio Doc
        1.2.3 PDF Doc
        1.2.4 Folder
    2.0 Folder B
      2.1 Word doc
      2.2 Visio doc
      2.3 pdf doc
      2.4 Folder B.1

    Got this to work. Made a new data view in a designer for document library. Created parameter and used it to filter the data view. Then I connected the visio's shape data to the parameter and OOB sorting and filtering works as expected.

  • Users are unable to synchronize document libraries with OneDrive for Business

    Hello,
    We are having an issue with our users attempting to synchronize document libraries with OneDrive for Business. When a user tried to synchronize the document library either via the "SYNC" button on the document library page using IE or by
    manually entering the document libraries path into the OneDrive for Business desktop app they receive the following error
    "We can't connect to the specified SharePoint site". The users have the Edit permission to both the site and the document library. I have performed the following actions in attempt to get the synchronization to work.
    1. Tested giving user the owner permission to the site and document library. same result.
    2. Performed a repair on the users Office 2013 installation.
    An interesting point to note is that I myself am able to synchronize the document libraries using both the "SYNC" button on the document library site and by entering the path manually in the desktop app. Difference between my account and the test
    accounts is that I'm a site collection administrator and farm administrator. Can anyone shed some light onto this issue?

    Hi Corey,
    According to your description, my understanding is that the users cannot sync document libraries with OneDrive for Business.
    I recommend to check the Permission Level to see if the Use Client Integration Features permission is selected.
    If not, check this permission in the corresponding permission level which is granted to the users.
    Please also check if the users have the right permission to sync the document library with OneDrive for Business.

  • Attachments in document library form or list form sent to another Document library on click without code

    Hello,
    I am trying to allow my users to use my form, fill out the fields, add attachments and then on button click the form will be attached to the document library (already done) and the attachments the user added will be automatically sent to another document
    library so that I can send them to another location separately from the form.
    So the sequence of events is:
    User enters in data
    User attaches documents
    User submits data to document library
    Attachments are sent to a separately document library
    Unfortunately I can't use code to go about this so this leaves out the COM but is there an out of the box way to go about this?

  • Upload/Download file to/from a document library in a SharePoint online site

    Hi,
    I am referring to the below blog for Upload/Download file to/from a document library in a SharePoint online site.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rohitpuri/archive/2007/04/10/upload-download-file-to-from-wss-document-library-using-dav.aspx?CommentPosted=true#commentmessage
    I would like to know if this is feasible with a SharePoint online site.
    If feasible, how can I resolve the below exception I am getting while using the code.
    “The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden”.
    Thanks,
    Thanan

    Hi,
    Actually what I am trying to achieve is the two things.
    1) By using only the user's name, need to upload/download from/to the document library of SharePoint online site using the CSOM. (i.e., achieving Single Sign On / Windows Authentication)
    2) I need to achieve the above only by passing the document URL; not by hardcording/ configuring the document library name in the windows application.
    Can anyone pls help on this now?
    [Below code is working fine. But need to arrive the solution whereas the above 2 conditions are not violated.
    using (var clientContext
    = new ClientContext("https://yoursiteurl.com"))
               string passWd
    = "password";
               SecureString securePassWd
    = new SecureString();
               foreach
    (var c in passWd.ToCharArray())
                    securePassWd.AppendChar(c);
                clientContext.Credentials
    = new SharePointOnlineCredentials("username", securePassWd);
               using
    (var fs =
    new FileStream("fileName",
    FileMode.Open))
    var fi =
    new FileInfo("fileName");
    var list = clientContext.Web.Lists.GetByTitle("Doc Library");
                   clientContext.Load(list.RootFolder);
                   clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    var fileUrl = String.Format("{0}/{1}", list.RootFolder.ServerRelativeUrl,
    fi.Name);
    Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.File.SaveBinaryDirect(clientContext, fileUrl,
    fs, true);

  • How to set a list form field data value that is linked to another document library's data when the link gets broken!!??

    In summary, I have created 3 document libraries and one issues list in a site collection.
    The issues list has a form that has mainly been created in SharePoint 2010 but tweaked in InfoPath 2007 and one of the fields links to the title of a document in the first document library (so an issue can be linked/referenced to a particular document).
    This all works great until I want to move a document (using the workflow that I built) from document library 1, to document library 2 or 3 as this is what I've set up to move documents through the business process we are taking it through.
    When this happens, the link between the issue that was raised originally against the document is broken and therefore you can no longer tell which document the issue is linked with.
    Does anyone know a way of 'setting' the field that is linked to data in another document library on original selection/creation of the issue, so that when the link is broken the original data remains.
    Any ideas welcome as I am stomped!!!
    Cheers!!
    Louis Maxwell

    Hi  Louis,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to keep the link field of the issue list working after moving the linked document.
    Whether the link field  is a lookup column or not ?
    If so, due to the information source of  lookup column cannot be changed, you need to add other lookup fields for document library 2 and document library 3. Just one lookup column corresponds one document
    library. Then you can update the lookup column in the workflow when move the linked document. Such as when a document is moved to document library 2, you need to clear the lookup1 field (corresponding document library 1) and update the lookup2 field (corresponding
    document library 2).
    For updating the lookup column, you can refer to the following actions:

  • Document library view: Group by a column with multiple values

    I have a document library which has a managed metadata column.
    I would like to create a view which groups the documents by this managed metadata column.
    The managed metadata column can have multiple values.
    I know that this is not possible with SharePoint's group by, since it only accepts those columns which can have only one single value.
    But is this possible to accomplish by some other means, e.g. Content query web part? Or is there perhaps a 3rd party solution to this?
    Is it possible to change the group by settings somehow to allow Group by to function with columns with multiple values? <- this may be far fetched...

    Hi Pekch,
    I'm assuming you have VS2010 to build the custom web part. From there you will need to figure out the following:
    Get a SPList object for the Document Library (See below for code example)
    Loop through all the documents in the SPList object
    If you have audience targetting enabled, then you'll need to determine if the user has access to the document by checking the "Target_x0020_Audiences" column)
    As you also want to group by metadata, you'll need to populate 2 datatables (one table with a column containing unique metadata values and another table with a metadata column and other document related columns).  Link these two tables via a dataset
    relation.
    Set the dataset as the datasource for a repeater, add in some css and javascript for the group expand/collaspe and it should be close to what you need.
    This will be a time consuming task if you don't know where to start or have problems figuring out how to perform a certain operation.  So you may want to determine if the functionality you want is required or just a "nice to have".  Good
    luck and if I have some spare time, I'll create a blog post outlining how to do all the above.
    I got the below code from a sharepoint blog sometime in the past and you can use it to retrieve a list.
    You can use it like this: GetListByUrl(http://servername/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx)
    using    Microsoft.SharePoint;
    public SPList GetListByUrl(string listURL)
    SPList list = null;
    try
    using (SPSite site = new SPSite(listURL))
    if (site != null)
    // Strip off the site url, leaving the rest
    // We'll use this to open the web
    string webUrl = listURL.Substring(site.Url.Length);
    // Strip off anything after /forms/
    int formsPos = webUrl.IndexOf("/forms/", 0, StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase);
    if (formsPos >= 0)
    webUrl = webUrl.Substring(0, webUrl.LastIndexOf('/', formsPos));
    // Strip off anything after /lists/
    int listPos = webUrl.IndexOf("/lists/", 0, StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase);
    if (listPos >= 0)
    // Must be a custom list
    // Strip off anything after /lists/
    webUrl = webUrl.Substring(0, webUrl.LastIndexOf('/', listPos));
    else
    // No lists, must be a document library.
    // Strip off the document library name
    webUrl = webUrl.Substring(0, webUrl.LastIndexOf('/'));
    // Get the web site
    using (SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb(webUrl))
    if (web != null)
    // Initialize the web (avoids COM exceptions)
    string title = web.Title;
    // Strip off the relative list Url
    // Form the full path to the list
    //string relativelistURL = listURL.Substring(web.Url.Length);
    //string url = SPUrlUtility.CombineUrl(web.Url, relativelistURL);
    // Get the list
    list = web.GetList(listURL);
    catch { }
    return list;
