Document Library Web Part - link to DispForm.aspx

Hi there. I'm trying to solve a problem that appeared when I tried to create a simple page with the list of documents from my document library. I need Title field displayed as a hyperlink to DispForm.aspx, not to Document itself, and not to a dropdown menu with Edit option.
The reason of this requirement is that we don't like to allow users to download document w/o reading metadata assosiated with it. On the other hand, ordinary user must not see Edit links in menu, because we don't want to tempt them to try edit document at all.
Of course, I can customize the data view in Sharepoint Designer - go to Code View and manually change <xsl:value-of select="@FileRef"/> to something like ..../dispform.aspx?ID=<xsl:value-of select="@ID"/>. But this ways seems to mee a bit ugly and I don't like to repeat this for each and other document library.
Is there any elegant way to solve the problem?
Thanks.

If you are working in MOSS 2007 then a more elegant way would be to create your custom document library definition.
You need to go to the 12 hive --> features --> document library list definition.
Create a copy of this list definition and modify it so that the document name points to the dispform.aspx.
Install and activate the new feature and create document libraries using your new template.
And the other part of not showing the edit item options can be achieved using sharepoint permissions. Why create something custom for that?

please help me to fix this or it seems its a Bug in sharepoint online.
can any one please confirm or suggest?

    Hi,
I have done a test in my SharePoint 2013 online and I got the same issue with you.
When I put document library web part  below task webpart or any other list webpart, then I click on New button of doc library it is popping up the list's content type.
There is no OOTB method to solve the issue.

  • SharePoint 2010 document library - Add a link that points to a page

    Hi
A department has created a document library. Now, they would like to have a link visible in that library that points to another .aspx page. Is that possible?
I've seen how to add a "link to a document", but I want to add a link to a page, not a document.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sonya

Thanks. I think adding a web part should satisfy their request.
I tried the "Link to a document" content type suggestion, but I'm not sure if there's something missing from our SharePoint installation, or if something is different with our template.docx file, or if SharePoint 2010 is playing strangely with
Office 2013, but after I added the "Link to a document" content type and chose it from the New Document drop-down, it wants to auto-launch Word 2013 with no dialogue for adding a URL.
However, once in Word, there are a couple of boxes just above the content area to type a URL and a description (screenshot below). I pasted the URL to the page in the URL box, left the description and content area blank, then saved the file back
to the library. However, when you click on the document in the library, it simply wants to open Word without going to the link.

  • Issue with the presence indicator in list/library web part.

When viewing a user field (Created By, Modified By or a custom People column) through the list web part (either through the default page /Forms/AllItems.aspx or a custom web part page using a list/library) the presence indicator always says presence unknown.
However if I go to the Site Permissions on the same site, or My Site or a custom page using a modified core search results web part I wrote the presence indicator works fine.  I can't find any errors being reported on the server.
Looking at the rendered code the list web part generates:
    <IMG name=imnmark width=12 height=12 title="" class=ms-imnImg id=imn_48683,type=smtp alt="No presence information" src="/_layouts/images/blank.gif" border=0 sip="[email protected]">
Locations where the presence indicator works the code is:
    <IMG name=imnmark width=12 height=12 title="" class=ms-imnImg id=imn{20140822-1752-098D-8C11-188AD0B8B8B6},type=sip alt=Available src="http://portal.mydomain.com/_layouts/images/imnon.png" border=0 sip="[email protected]" valign="middle">
It appears that the List web part is not detecting that the users have a sip address and they appear to be rendered using smtp instead.  It's also odd that the list web part is pulling the correct sip address while the one that works is pulling the
email address, not the sip address stored in the user profile.  I spent considerable time going through the xslt to try and figure how the tag is rendered but I haven't been able to figure it out.
We are using Cisco Jabber 9.2.3 for IM, I don't know if that should make a difference or not. It's working fine in other parts of SharePoint and in Outlook. Running SharePoint Dec 2011 CU (14.0.6114.5000) with MS Office 2010 SP2 installed on the client. Tested
    in IE 9.0/10/11.
    Any ideas?

We don't have a Lync server and I don't have the software available.  Are you saying just having Lync installed even though it won't work might help?
I did some more digging and believe that this is an issue with the XsltListViewWebPart.  If I go to the UserInformationList the web part used to render the list is the ListViewWebPart and the presence indicator works there.  Also our environment
was migrated from 2007 and there are a number of pages that are using the old ListViewWebPart and the presence indicator works fine in this part.  If edit the page and add the same list library to it, it's added as a XsltListViewWebPart and the presence
    indicator does not work.
The presence control is not rendered by the xsl files used by the webpart.  I modified the xsl to display the raw xml and the html code for the presence is part of the xml.  I'm guessing this can't be changed and is part of how SharePoint is rendering
the data for the XsltListViewWebPart.  You can see the Editor and CheckoutUser lines have the html code embedded in the data.

I just find it strange that the old ListViewWebPart works.  Our SP environment has not been patched to the latest version, I'll try that next and see if it makes a difference.

  • Document Folder Web Parts Layout

I wish the default view of my document library to show web parts. That is easy enough. However I don't know where or how to set the layout of the parts. I want my page to have a right column and a central column.
    SharePoint 2007

    You can do the following:
Create a new view and set it as the default
Open your site using SharePoint Designer 2007 (free download from MS)
Navigate to your library / forms / yourviewname.aspx and open it in edit mode
Look at the code and locate the WebPartZone that is present on the page
Create additional Web Part Zones as needed (they can live in tables or divs to allow multiple columns)

  • Could i use page unload event in Class Library (Web part)?

    Hi,
I am creating Web Part using visual studio class library. I am going to deploy it in SharePoint environment.
I want to do some functionality while page unload. Is there anything like that?
    Could anyone tell about it?
    Thanks & Regards
    Poomani Sankaran

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to create a web part programmatically and then do some functionality in the page unload event.
There is a web part method called WebPart.OnUnload method, you can override this method and add the custom code to the override method.
Here are some detailed articles for your reference:

  • Document ID column not appearing on dispform.aspx

Hi, when activating this feature at site collection level, the column appears for new library views, but not for the,
    dispform.aspx
I think this doesn't apply for newform and editform.aspx since you can't edit that part.
Now, we migrate this site from SharePoint 2007 to 2013, could it be that after migrating and activating this new feature, it can't update that form since that was migrated.
    Any other thoughts?

Nope.  you're stuck.  That's the way it is.  Two possible solutions:
Modify the dispform.aspx to include this.  Kinda difficult though now that the page View has been dropped from SharePoint Designer 2013.  You'll have to work in code view only.
Add a new column.  Create a workflow that is triggered on change that copies the ID value to the new column.  Display the new column on the dispform.aspx.

  • Using Visio Web Access Web Part to dynamically display visio drawings in document library according to which folder a user is viewing

I have a document library web part in SharePoint 2010. There is also a Visio Web Access Web Part on the same site, side by side with the doc lib. In the folder structure of the document library web part (it is pretty complex and a few levels deep),
each folder contains one and one only Visio diagram. I want the Visio web access web part to display the visio drawing that exists in what ever folder the user is currently browsing. For example.. if the file structure is as follows below and a user clicks
on folder A from the list I would like the Visio Web Access web part to display the visio diagram that lives in folder A. Same for any folder at all anywhere in the structure that the user is viewing, dynamically changing as the user browses the directory.
    Is this possible?
    1.0 Folder A
      1.1 Word Doc
      1.2 Visio Doc
      1.3 Folder a.1
        1.3.1 Word Doc
        1.3.2 Visio Doc
        1.2.3 PDF Doc
        1.2.4 Folder
    2.0 Folder B
      2.1 Word doc
      2.2 Visio doc
      2.3 pdf doc
      2.4 Folder B.1

Got this to work. Made a new data view in a designer for document library. Created parameter and used it to filter the data view. Then I connected the visio's shape data to the parameter and OOB sorting and filtering works as expected.

  • Opening Document Library PDF in a New Window (Sharepoint 2013)

    Hello,
I have numerous PDF's in a document library. When the PDF opens in the browser, the PDF's contain links to various other sites; however, when the user clicks the link on the PDF from the document library, the link opens in the same window as the PDF. I would
like the link to open the PDF in a new browser window.
I have searched Google but cannot find anything for SharePoint 2013. We are hosting our SharePoint on the Office 365 package.  I found one solution that is repeated on many forums, but I do not see the "Convert to XSLT data view" anywhere
in SharePoint designer 2013. The solution states:
"Edit the document library in SharePoint Designer.
    1. Open the site in SharePoint Designer and then open the document library allitems.aspx.
    2. Right-click the document library web part and select “Convert to XSLT data view”.
    3. Locate the name column, you will see this tag “<A onfocus="OnLink(this)" HREF="{@FileRef}"….. ”, add “target=”_blank”” in tag.
    4. After this, the documents will be opened in a new window."
I do  see my allitems.aspx and can open that with a text editor. The contents of that file are:

  • File Open Issues - document library pdf file to open in new browser window

    Hi
I have a requirement to open the document library containing pdf file to open in new browser window. So far I have tried following steps but could not get it to work.
    1. Changing Document library advance setting to open the document in browser (have tried others as well).
    2. SharePoint web application setting changed as Permissive instead of Strict. Here the pdf file opens in browser but redirect from document library instead of new window(Also tried adding Target=”_blank” and no change).
    3. Executed the powershell script to adding MIME type to see if it works but no change.
    $webApp = Get-SPWebApplication http://SharePointSite
    If ($webApp.AllowedInlineDownloadedMimeTypes -notcontains "application/pdf")
Write-Host -ForegroundColor White "Adding PDF MIME Type..."
    $webApp.AllowedInlineDownloadedMimeTypes.Add("application/pdf")
    $webApp.Update()
Write-Host -ForegroundColor White "Added and saved."
    Else
Write-Host -ForegroundColor White "PDF MIME type is already added."
    4. Open the Doc library and modified ALLItems.aspx to add Target= “_blank”
    5. I have already tried solutions suggested in the link:

  • Open PDF's in new window in document library when using "Find a file" search

I need to be able to open PDF's in a new window from a document library when using the "Find a file" search built into the document library "All documents" view. I currently have the following javascript on the page:
    _spBodyOnLoadFunctionNames.push("setTargetBlank()");
    function setTargetBlank()
    { $("a[href$='.pdf']").removeAttr('onclick').attr("target", "_blank");
This works great when going to the document library and navigating through the folders then clicking on a link.
The problem is when someone goes to the document library then uses the "Find a file" search and then they click on a link. The "Find a file" search does not do a postback (reload) of the page, therefore my javascript to find the PDF links
and make them open in a new window does not run for the links on the page.
I have read the following article but this does not seem to offer a solution that will work in this situation for SharePoint 2013 (Office 365): http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/7ad3224c-3165-47ae-95bc-4f3928e2f9a8/opening-document-library-pdf-in-a-new-window-sharepoint-2013?forum=sharepointgeneral
I suppose the idea solution would be to somehow tap into the event that is fired when using "Find a file" search to run my javascript and update the links for the search results.
Can anyone offer any solutions to this issue?

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to open PDF files in a new window from a document library when using the "Find a file" search.
As you said, the "Find a file" search does not do a postback (reload) of the page, therefore JavaScript to find the PDF links and make them open in a new window does not run for the links on the page.
I recommend to use JS link to achieve the goal. Create a JavaScript override file and upload the JavaScript file to the Master Page Gallery, and then set the JS Link property of the document library web part to point to the JavaScript file.
Here are some links about the JS link in SharePoint 2013 for you to take a look:

  • Document Library view selection menu missing

    Hi,
I am encountering a strange issue with the SP2013 document library web part. I included a screenshot (see link) where you can see that the web part of the doc lib doesn't contain a view selector menu at the right side. This is only available after
you go to the document library system page by clicking on the title of the document library. Does anyone have experience with this issue? Its very frustrating because the customer wants to see all the views at the home page of the site.  Thanks for the
    help.

You can still get to those views using the ellipses next to the view name can't you?
It's probably related to the way that SharePont handles multiple web parts on a page. Rather than handle item references for multiple web parts they've been stripped out.

  • Remove filter from Html Form Web part

    Hi,
I've created a HTML form web part and connected it to a document library web part. It filters fine and as expected, but the only way I found to remove the filter is to reload the entire page. As I have several html form web parts on the page, filtering on
different columns, that is a quite unsatisfactory method. Isn't there a value I can pass to the connected web part that just means "any". I've tried to send empty strings or '*' or even '[everyone]' (for the modified by column) but nothing works.
    Is there really no way?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
For your issue, you can use the Text Filter Web Part. In the Text Filter Web Part, you can send empty strings to the connected web part which means "any":

  • Eliminate White Space in Picture Library Slideshow Web Part

On my site, I am using picture library slideshow web parts on two different pages, and one of them is giving me trouble with unwanted white space between the photos and the back, pause, forward control buttons (see photo below).
In an attempt to resolve this issue, I have tried numerous things. I have resized the width and height of the web part itself to many different sizes, but to not avail. I have cropped and resized all of the photos to be the exact same size of 300x200
pixels. I have used CSS to display the photos to their actual size rather than the standard preview size. With all of this in mind, my second photo library web part on another page works perfectly. This was white space problem was only an issue until
I resized/cropped the photos in that case. For this page, however, that solution is not working.
Does anyone have any clue as to how I can remove this unwanted white space?
    Thank you!

    Hi Stacey,
From your description, you would like to remove white space in picture library slideshow web parts. You used CSS to solve it however a web part still show white spaces.
Please press F12 and see if there is div tag in white space, if there is, try remove it.

In addition, try edit web part properties > Display with > choose No Title or Description.
