Documentation on Session Bean Pooling in Oracle9iAS

Is there any documentation stating how the Oracle9iAS (OC4J) handles session bean pooling?

In orion-ejb-jar.xml you can set the pool size for session beans with
<session-deployment ... min-instances="2" max-instances="20">
</session-deployment>
For complete documentation on configuring pool size follow this link:

• Statless Session Bean FIFO Behaviour

Hi,
I'm using WL81, and would like to ask if its possible to enforce FIFO behaviour for session bean pools? - that is, given the situation of only 1 initial bean and max bean count is 1 for the bean pool, the request for the beans would be served according to there arrival time's chronological order.

• How to deploy a BC4J application as a Session Bean to OC4J?

I want to deploy a BC4J application as an Session Bean to Oracle9iAS Containers for J2EE instead to the 9iAS-DB (= Oracle8i database). How to package the EJB JAR(s), EAR(s), Client JAR(s) ...???
The main question is: Is it generally possible to deploy/run a BC4J application as an Session Bean to/on Oracle9iAS Containers for J2EE???

One of the cool things about BC4J framework is the way you can deploy the BC4J application.
The BC4J application is independent of the deployment mode.
Irrespective of which mode you actually deploy the applicaiton, you would still get all the framework services.
It is also easily switchable from one deployment mode to another.
Today you can decide to deploy it in the local mode and a later stage if you need to deploy it as EJB Session Bean you don't have rewrite your Appplication.
All you do use the Design Time Wizards for the APplication Module and make it remotable as EJB Session Bean and everything is taken for you.
BC4J white paper available on technet gives more details

• How Stateless Session Bean instances in pool

Hi,
I am not clear about , stateless bean having "pool" of objects to be used by multiple clients.when those instances will be created or who will generate them.
Is this pool specific to ejb container or any vendor container.
thanks in advance,

Hi , my question is about Stateless Session Bean ,
how StatelessSession bean will behave when some 100
clients wil call homeObject simultaneously.The EJBs(including stateless) are single threaded so one client can access one Bean at a time. As per your question if some 100 clients are invoking home.create() method then it has to invoke on 100 EJBs. The instance pool size can be specified while deploying. In the descriptor (application server speific). So if the number of simultaneous clients is more than the pool size then some clients have to wait.
Now my second question is how and who will create
these instance .The container will create the pool as per the application server spcific deployment descriptor.

• Weblogic 10.3.0 : Loosing a stateless session bean in the bean pool

Hi,
We have a strange situation where we loose a Stateless SessionBean in a Bean Pool in Weblogic 10.3.0 Since we only have one bean in the pool, this effectively hangs all incoming calls. We do not want more than one instance in the pool because of application restrictions.
In the Weblogic admin console, we can see that there are 1 instance in the bean pool, 0 beans in use and 1 waiting incoming request.
The question is, what can have caused the system to not send the request to the one obviously free bean instance?
This happens after several hours and over 100000 incoming requests, and the same scenario worked fine in the old weblogic 8 environment.
We get the following stacktrace:

This is fixed now. Someone had defined a Servlet for the web service in web.xml that was preventing the EJB container to kick in.

• Max number of instances for stateful session beans

Hi,
I am using OC4J 9.0.3 which is embedded in JDeveloper. I would like to set the maximum number of instances for stateful session beans. I know that the session-deployment section of the orion-ejb-jar.xml file has an attribute called max-instances, but it only works for stateless session beans. (at least it says so in the documentation and it did not work with my stateful session bean)
Anyone knows how to do it?
Thanks,
Leonardo Penha

Leonardo -- Stateful session beans do not come from a pool but are assigned 1 bean to 1 user. When the EJBs life ends the bean goes away. If what you are asking about is passivation configuraiton then that is different. We currently do not support passivation based on some count of SFSBs that exists inside the container but we will provide that capability in the next release of OC4J. (Note: When passivation occurs is mostly up to the vendors and it is not required by the J2EE 1.3 specification based on performance metrics. What is required is that when a SFSB is passivated it is done correctly and we do that.)
Thanks -- Jeff

• How to lookup a EJB 3.0 session bean which is deployed in WebLogic 10.3

Now Jdeveloper 11.1.1, is giving WebLogic server 10.3.
With internal WebLogic server, when I created a Sample client, it generated code as:
private static Context getInitialContext() throws NamingException {
Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
// WebLogic Server 10.x connection details
env.put( Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory" );
env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "t3://127.0.0.1:7101");
return new InitialContext( env );
public static void main(String [] args) {
try {
final Context context = getInitialContext();
DefaultSession defaultSession = (DefaultSession)context.lookup("property-DefaultSession#com.vs.property.model.session.DefaultSession");
} catch (Exception ex) {
}How to update the above code to lookup the EJB 3.0 session beans with an external WebLogic server 10.3?
Is there any documentation available on how to install weblogic, troubleshoot, debug, WebLogic server 10.3?

Raju,
Hi, to start, here is a tutorial on a quickstart web application using an EJB 3.0 stateless session bean that fronts a container managed EclipseLink JPA entity manager on WebLogic 10.3, you will find references there to other general WebLogic documentation.
[http://wiki.eclipse.org/EclipseLink/Examples/JPA/WebLogic_Web_Tutorial]
using @EJB injection on the client instead of a JNDI lookup as below
[http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs103/ejb30/annotations.html#wp1417411]
1) in your second env.put I noticed that your t3 port is 7101, I usually use the default 7001 - but It looks like this port is valid for the JDeveloper embedded version of WebLogic server runs - just verify that it matches the port of your server.
2) your name#qualified-name lookup looks ok. Verify that the jndi-name element is set in your weblogic-ejb-jar.xml for non injection clients like the following
<weblogic-ejb-jar>
<weblogic-enterprise-bean>
<ejb-name>ApplicationService</ejb-name>
<jndi-name>ApplicationService</jndi-name>
3) as a test outside of your application - launch the WebLogic admin console and goto the testing tab of your bean in [Home > Summary of Deployments > "application" > "session bean name"
thank you

• EJB 3.0 Session bean transfers null Entity

Hello all
I am having trouble trying to transfer an Entity from a stateful session bean to a JSP. When I try an identical method with a java client within the OC4J container of JDeveloper, it works fine. However when I deploy the application to OracleAS 10.1.3, I get a null pointer on the entity.
Please help. I have been stuck on this for about 3 weeks, and I've followed documentation to the letter as far as I can see.
Here is the code for the JSP, the (simplified) bean and the Entity in question.
Bean:
import java.util.List;
import javax.annotation.Resource;
import javax.ejb.Stateful;
import javax.persistence.EntityManager;
import javax.persistence.Query;
@Stateful(name="cart")
public class CartBean implements CartRemote, CartLocal {
@Resource
protected EntityManager manager;
public CartBean() {
public User getUser(String username){
User user = manager.find(User.class, username);
return user;
}The JSP:

<%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=windows-1252"%>

<%@ page import="javax.naming.InitialContext" %>
<%@ page import="java.util.List" %>
<%@ page import="java.util.ArrayList" %>
<%!String m_username = "pbarrett";%>
<%!String emailAddress = "";%>
<%
try {
InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext();
CartLocal cart = (CartLocal) ctx.lookup("java:comp/env/cart");
User user = cart.getUser(m_username);
emailAddress = user.getEmailAddress();
%>

you are: <%= m_username %>
your email address is: <%= emailAddress %>

<%
catch (Exception e){
e.printStackTrace();
%>and the User entity:
import java.io.Serializable;
import java.sql.Timestamp;
import static javax.persistence.AccessType.FIELD;
import javax.persistence.Column;
import javax.persistence.Entity;
import javax.persistence.Table;
import javax.persistence.Id;
@Entity(access=FIELD)
@Table(name="USERS")
public class User implements Serializable {
@Column(name="CREATION_DATE")
protected Timestamp creationDate;
@Column(name="DISPLAY_NAME")
protected String displayName;
@Column(name="EMAIL_ADDRESS")
protected String emailAddress;
@Id
@Column(name="USERNAME")
protected String username;
@Column(name="USER_ID")
protected Long userId;
@Column(name="USER_STATUS")
protected Long userStatus;
public User() {
//JDeveloper-generated getters and setters
}I should point out that I have established that the null pointer is not coming from the CartLocal lookup.
Any help welcome, thanks in advance.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick response.
I have tried this approach before but when I try and deploy to the server, I get this message:
@PersistenceContext annotation can only be used when a javax.spi.PersistenceProvider is installed.
Is this a missing jar file? If so, which one?
Thanks

• Always fail to deploy to server when (Create a Simple EJB Session Bean )

Hi,
I'm trying the "Oracle JDeveloper 11g Tutorials" - "Create a Simple EJB Session Bean", I just follow the instructions in that page. But when I tried to run it, it always failed. Can anyone help me to have a look. I paste the log below. thank you.
There's an error in the log "java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.security.jps.wls.listeners.JpsApplicationLifecycleListener". but I don't know what's that meaning.

[Application SessionEJB stopped and undeployed from Server Instance DefaultServer]

Steve,
I'm facing the same issue as user#####.
Your workaround does not work ; when I deploy manuelly the ear file, with a new weblogic-application.xml, I get the same error.
Does that happen a lot ? :p

• What's wrong to put Thread.sleep in a session bean?

i am working on a trading platform and i think there is a design flaw. The part i am working on is the Order Management module. When an order value object is published to a JMS topic and picked up by a MDB. The MDB, in turn, calls a session bean (could be stateless, I didn't check), OrderEngineBean. After this bean saves the order vo into database and broadcast the message to all involved parties, it suspends for 12 sec, using Thread.sleep, so other parities might have a chance to update the vo. If no update occurs, the order is considered expired and abandoned.
It looks awkward to me to use a Thread.sleep in a session, but I haven't come out with a better idea to deal with the scenario like above.
Anyone can help me out?
Thanks a lot!
Sway

Setting the property "max-beans-in-free-pool" is not the answer to this issue. By setting this property to 1, the container merely instantiates and keeps one instance of the bean in the free pool at the "start" of the app server. But if the container comes across more than one requests for the same EJB simultaneoulsy, then it will create new instances at that time to handle the requests simultaneously.
You are seeing intermixed log messages between two threads because these messages are being logged from two different instances of the EJB and NOT the same instance of the EJB. The container does synchronizes the calls on "a method" on "a instance". So what you are seeing are the messages coming from "a method" on "two different instances" of the same EJB.
You can refer to the EJB 2.0 specification section 6.11.6 Non-reentrant instances for details about simultaneous access to the same session object.

• Problem with connecting from Netweaver Session Bean to SAP R/3

Hi,
i just want a connection to RFC in SAP R/3 and with help of sap ("Proxy generation" etc) and wizard in NWDS i get the rfc. Now i want to connect and use it (like in handbook) but: Every time i create and use jcoclient.connect() system gets an error like:
"Class File Editor
Source not found
The jar file jrfc.jar has no source attachment."
I have add all files that are used to "Used DCs" or bind library into projekt as "Third party library", but the error is still there.
Any idea? Do i have to make something else? Some failure made?
thx
Here is text for connection:

Where can we download SAP NW7.0 (2004s) as Java Trial for testing? We only find ABAP Trial... Link? thx

So we tested some things that are described in the SDN or by SAP with Connectors.
We tested JCO version 2.0.12, 2.1.18 and 3.0 in J2EE Projects in netweaver and in Eclipse (Standalone).
For version 2.0.12 there is a failure that this version is not compatible with the other things in netweaver.
This version is for standalone and integrated sytems.
For version 2.1.18 is only described as standalone and so failure happened in netweaver that other classes are coruppted or missed. The internal test in "content administrator" (Ping and Test) do not work and had the same error.
For version 3.0 (that displace the other two versions) there is many to do in settings and coding that we do not have tested yet because project is not that small to write it for JCO 3.0 only for testing. When we only displaced files in netweaver the server do not start any more.
So:
Is there a way to call R/3 from session bean and 1. create an JCO client or 2. add a client to the "standard" pool of netweaver to use it?
Any ideas? help? links?
Project have to be complete in september...
Our combi is SAP Netweaver 2004 SP21 on Windows XP SP2 / Server 2003 Standard SP1 with JVM 1.4.2_16... need of any more info?
thx
