Documents, Downloads, Pictures, etc Folders Invisible for Mobile Accounts

For some reason, when any user navigates to their home directory, most of the subfolders (Applications, Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Library, Movies, Music, Pictures, & Public) are invisible. It's not consistent which ones can be seen: one user can see Library and Desktop, while another can see only Library. It is possible to navigate to any of the folders with the Go to Folder item in Finder's Go menu. Here are the results from listing everything in my own home directory (ls -l@):
drwx------@ 3 username staff 264 Sep 15 12:37 Desktop
com.apple.FinderInfo 32
drwx------@ 5 username staff 264 Sep 15 15:54 Documents
com.apple.FinderInfo 32
drwx------@ 4 username staff 264 Sep 15 12:37 Downloads

drwx------+ 27 username staff 874 Sep 17 09:24 Library

com.apple.FinderInfo 32
drwxr-xr-x+ 2 username staff 264 Sep 15 15:35 New Folder
Library and New Folder are the only ones I can see in Finder. All of the invisible ones have extended attributes, but, oddly, when I navigated to one of the invisible folders in Finder and Get Info on it, there is no "invisible" checkbox in the General settings.
Here is some more info on the network setup:
Network is a Golden Triangle: our OS X server is bound to the Active Directory domain, and each client is bound both Open Directory and AD (OD has higher precedence in search policy). Network accounts are created in AD with the home folder at //osxserver.domain.local/Network Users/username (mapped to drive X:\ or Z:\ for Windows users). Accounts are imported into OD, which (through policy on each user's group) creates a mobile account at login (no prompt) using the network profile and syncs at login, logout, in background and manually. The client-side AD plugin does not force local home directories, derives network home from UNC path in AD (using AFP), and allows administration by domain admins; all other settings are default.
Any help in making all folders visible would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the results from listing everything in my own home directory (ls -l@):
Use the xattr Terminal command to clear that attribute. For usage instructions, run xattr -h.
All of the invisible ones have extended attributes, but, oddly, when I navigated to one of the invisible folders in Finder and Get Info on it, there is no "invisible" checkbox in the General settings.
That's intentional.

    Hello,
    Oracle E-Bus Suite: 11.5.10.2
    OS: Windows 2003
We are facing the problem while executing the ARPLABIM - Bank Statement Import program, 'Document Sequence Information Does not Exist for Bank Account'.
We have already reviewed Oracle Metalink Document: Document Sequence Information Does not Exist for Bank Account: Doc ID: Note:147773.1.
    https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=130:14:3345134018905587318::::p14_database_id,p14_docid,p14_show_header,p14_show_help,p14_black_frame,p14_font:NOT,147773.1,1,1,1,helvetica
But the profile option Sequential Numbering cannot be set to Not Used due to certain funcational limitations. Please advise any other workaround.
    Thank you

    Adith,
    There are only two options:
    1. Setup document Sequence. OR
    2. Change the profile either the user level who runs this program (assuming a batch user name) or at the resp or application level. Not necessarily at the site level.

  • Automatic direcroty mounts for Mobile Accounts

I am seekign advise on how to provide automatic mounting of network directories for mobile account users.
The issue comes when the user is not attached to the local network, and the mobile user logs into their laptop, the "Login Items" set up to mount the directories fail and will never work again (even when attached to the local network).
Ideally, I would seek to have the directories mounted automatically only when the user is connected to the local network.
    Any advise would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

Assuming that they are using apple laptops you could just setup different "Locations" for them on the computer itself. (System Preferences -> Network -> Locations -> New Location.) and then specify that when they are at home use the "Home" location which would NOT have the mount points listed as auto connect.
I'm not sure if they have something similar to that in the windows world as I've only used Macs (Luckily!)
Another way to connect to the local share points would be to setup a VPN and have them VPN in and then connect to the shares, that way it still connects to the private addresses from "inside" the network.
Anyway, give that a shot and let us know how it goes.

  • Gnome predefined places like Documents, Downloads, Videos, etc

    Hi,
In distributions like openSuSE, Ubuntu, Fedora there are some predefined places in you home forlder ( Documents, Download, Music, Videos ) with cool icons. How can I easily do that in Arch?
I know that I can create those directories, drag them into nautilus places bar, set the icons for them, but it is long and needs to be redone for every user. Is there a way to make it global?
I have also an openSuSE installaltion, I can copy files from there if it is necessary.
    Thank you!

All files in /etc/skel are put in new users' home directories so you can add the folders there.
Edit ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs (or /etc/skell/.config/user-dirs.dirs for all new users).
    # Default settings for user directories
    # The values are relative pathnames from the home directory and

  • Plist files keep being duplicated (for mobile accounts)

We are running a Max OS X Server 10.6.8 on a local network. On the same network we have several users under mobile accounts. Some of the mobile account users are experiencing a lot of issues recently. They were running on Snow Leopard, we upgraded them to Mavericks, but the problems persist. In their ~/Library/Preferences folder, they have a lot of plist files duplicated, example for iTunes:
    com.apple.iTunes.plist
    com.apple.iTunes-network.plist
    com.apple.iTunes-network-2.plist
    com.apple.iTunes-network-3.plist
    com.apple.iTunes-network-4.plist
    com.apple.iTunes-network-5.plist
And it's doing that for most of the plist files in the ~/Library/Preferences folder.
The same behavior is noticed for iPhoto in the ~/Pictures folder, and each one of the duplicate is pretty big (we are talking about an iPhoto Library around 30GB):
    iPhoto Library
    iPhoto Library-network-2
    iPhoto Library-network-3
    iPhoto Library-network-4
Is there a way to avoid this duplication and to clean the preferences files properly?
    Thank you

SCOM Action account does not required to be local administator of agent machine
The action account is used to gather information about, and run responses on, the managed computer (a managed computer being either a management server or a computer with an agent installed). The MonitoringHost.exe processes run under the action account or
    a specific Run As account.
You may use local system or domain account for agent action account.
For Domain user agent's action account, you can use a low-privileged account by ensurin that the account have the following minimum privileges:

While doing GRN system is not generating FI document for this po. if  i am giving one quanity or single account assignment for as 4 then it is generating FI quantity.
PLease help me out why system is not generating FI document for multiple accont assignment in MIGO.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
There is no option if you are not on EhP4... Do MIRO and see if the FI doc is generated
Only way is to do MIRO immediately after MIGO.. OR Schedule ERS (Evaluated Receipt Settlement) which runs every hour in the background so that MIRO is posted automatically based on MIGO document.... Basically, you have to do MIRO after MIGO.. Whether you do it manually or through ERS is a matter of choice

There are several posts regarding locate such picture in Leopard, but since I am looking for the picture in Lion. Those posts seems not working for me. • I am thinking of updating to the newest version for my Mac Laptop. I have the 10.6.8 should I update to the Mountain Lion OS X? If I update will I loose all my data, like documents, music, pictures?

Wondering if I should update my Mac Notebook which is a 10.6.8 versions to the newest Mountain Lion version? What are the positive and negatives about the new version? Also if I update will I loose all the date on my computer like documents, music, pictures etc..?

First check the Compatibility of your Mac...
    Upgrade to Mountain Lion
Then... Before attempting any Major Upgrade... get yourself an External Hard Drive... and create a Bootable Clone Backup of your current Hard Drive...
By far the easiest way to make such a Backup, is to use something like
    SuperDuper  http://www.shirt-pocket.com/
    or CCC  http://www.bombich.com/
That way, should anything untoward happen during the Upgrade,
    you will NOT LOSE ANYTHING.
(Get an EHD that is at least equal to your current Drive...)
Also, Check here for compatibility of 3rd party Software you may be using...

  • Q abt. "Server Side File Tracking for Mobile Home Sync"

I am following the steps "To optimize the file server for mobile accounts" which are listed on page 157 in Mac OS X Server v10.6 - User Management :
In Server Admin, click the disclosure triangle for the server hosting network home folders for mobile accounts.
If Firewall isn’t listed, select the server, click Settings, click Services, select Firewall, and then click Save.
Select Firewall, click Settings, and then click Services.
Choose the address range for your users’ computers from the “Edit Services for” pop-up menu.
Select “Allow only traffic from ‘ipaddress’ to any of these ports,” select the Allow checkbox for Mobile Account Sync (port 2336), and then click Save.
Select the server, click Settings, and then click General.
Select “Server Side File Tracking for Mobile Home Sync” and then click Save.
    My questions is:
In step 2, I added "Firewall" to the services. I continued with the following steps, but nowhere does it say to press the button "Start Firewall", so as of right now Firewall is listed, but not activated - it's gray and not green. Should I turn on the Firewall Service? In my setup, a cable modem/router is acting Firewall between WAN and LAN (small private home network).

I can't get Server Side File Tracking to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Here's what I've done:
    1. Followed the instructions in "Mac OS X Server v10.6 - User Management" as per the first post in this thread.
    2. Tried turning on the Firewall Service - resulting in clients unable to log in to their network accounts.
    3. In Server Admin, under Firewall>Settings>Services, with 192.168-net selected in the pop-up menu entitled "Editing services for", I then chose "Allow all traffic" (instead of "Allow only traffic to these ports:") as my router acts as a Firewall in my setup. Now users can log in to their network accounts again, but Server Side File Tracking is still not working. How do I know it is not working?
According to infinite vortex in this other thread, the syncing window is supposed to only show this:
On my clients, you can see it scan through the home directory before the file copying/syncing actually starts.

  • Cannot change mobile account settings, connected to Windows AD

    Hi!

I also still have my old MBP 13", 2,5 years old with almost the same config, but VMware 3.x.
    Now to the strange thing.
On the MBP 13" I CAN change settings for my mobile account but on the MBP 15" it is not poosible? How can it be different?
Please see attached picture. Swedish "Flyttbart konto" = Mobile Account. Swedish "Inställningar" = Settings. As you can see it is not possible to edit/change settings........
How do I make it possible to make changes in my mobile account? I want to sync other folders and so on......

    Hello bh8er,
I'm sorry to hear you are having mail issues with your Mac. I also apologize, I'm a bit unclear on exactly what you are seeing/describing. What are you seeing when you go to Mail > Preferences and select the Accounts tab? Does it show more than one account in the left hand column, and does it allow you to select your account? What does it say for Account Type? You may also find the additional troubleshooting steps in the following article helpful, in particular the portion about using the Mail Connection Doctor:

  • Decommissioned a file server, but every mobile account in the place is still trying to connect to it on login!

A couple of months ago we decommissioned the 10.4.11 xserve that was serving as our LDAP server and home directory server for mobile accounts.  We migrated all of that to a newer 10.6.8 xserve.  It was a fairly rough migration, but we've pretty much sorted it out except for one last annoyance: when you look at System Preferences->Accounts->Login Items for all of our mobile accounts, every single client is still trying to mount an afp share on the old server.  Logging in takes FOREVER because the connection needs to time out, so now my users are no longer logging out/in as often as they should, and so their Home Sync's are getting old.
When you go to the client's Preferences, the line referencing the old server share is still there, but the minus sign is greyed out so the item cannot be deleted.
The Kind is listed as "unknown" and there is a grey warning triangle next to it.
This is clearly some sort of template/Preference that is hardcoded to the old name, and whatever file this is got moved to the new server (which has a different name and different numeric IP address.)  Because even the BRAND NEW users that I have created since after "pdc04.hgbc.com" disappeared are trying to log in to the non-existent share on the non-existent server, too!
I have tried running grep on the entire disk on one of the clients looking for the string "pdc04", and updated everything that I found using vi directly on the files.  I have tried running grep on select directory trees on the new file server looking for pdc04.  In my grep on the client, I found the string in
         /Library/Managed Preferences/user/loginwindow.plist
         /Library/Managed Preferences/user/complete.plist
but searching all of the logingwindow.plist and complete.plist files on the new server comes up with nothing.
Does anyone have any idea where the template or preference or plist is on the server so that I can delete or update the file with the new host name?

I think that Grant is on the right track -- but the problem is that whatever file that pdc04's Server Manager wrote into is not available to pdc's Server Manager to edit or even display.
We upgraded mostly by turning off the G5 10.4 xserve and unplugging the fiber-channel RAID (with user accounts on it) and plugging the RAID into a fiber-channel card on the new (to us) Nehalem 10.6 xserve, which we did after using Migration Assistant between the machines.  Then we had various and sundry problems, and we ended up moving all of the mobile account directories to the internal RAID on the new server.
Clearly there is a file somewhere that acts as a template for mobile accounts and it refers to the old machine but its been moved to the new machine.
Only two of the mobile accounts have directories in the /Library/Managed Preferences folder.  One of them, ironically, is mine, and my account hasn't worked right since we went to the new server.

  • What is 'mobile account' and how does it work?

This is a hidden feature in Mac OS Leopard, that I believe require an Leopard Server on the network.
I have not found it in the regular user interface, but it can be revealed by following the below process:
    1. Go to System Preferences > Accounts
    2. Unlock
    3. Search for mobile account, and press Enter
    4. Wait for the Mobile account options to show up
What is this feature? How does it work?
I have found no references to it in the normal documentation.

    Google is your friend:
"A mobile account is a Mac OS X Server user account that has been copied to a local computer and remains synchronized with the server account so that both locations contain a matching set of data."(Mac OS X Server User Management, p. 46).
And it has been around since 10.3, so it is not something new to Leopard.
