Documents Open in Browser Issue

Hi All
    I have strange issue, word document open in browser as expected. But a read permission user open up the document in browser and able to edit and save it.
Please advice
Thank you
Joe

Hello joe_aro-SP,
looks like your user has more permissions than needed. You could try to remove the user from User Information List (<a href="http:///_layouts/15/people.aspx?MembershipGroupId=0">http://<your_site>/_layouts/15/people.aspx?MembershipGroupId=0)
and grant him/her ONLY read permissions (add it to the SharePoint group with read permissions).
Another options is to create a new permission level (via Central Admin->Manage Web Application, select the web application and choose "Permission Policy"). When creating the permission policy select "View Items" under List permissions.
Create a new SharePoint group and assign the newly created permission policy. Inside the permission policy you could add accounts that could Only view items for the site collection.
Let me know if this one is helpful.

  • Office Document open in browser

    Hi, I am trying to open an office document directly in the browser, but IE (V8) always open the modal dialog to open or save. I have tried differents ways and read almost every threads about this topic, some of the solutions that I tried are:
    - Modify Header to inline:
    response.setContentType ("application/msword" );
    response.setHeader ("Content-Transfer-Encoding","7bit");
    response.setHeader ("Content-Disposition","inline;filename=" + vo.getFileName());
    This solution in many ways.
    - Use Iframes:
    "a target="myFrame" href="http://www.polityka-spoleczna.lubuskie.pl/pl/content/download/92/350/file/plik%20testowy1.doc">LINK DOC</a>
    <iframe name="myFrame" >"
    - Use ActiveX
    function loadworddoc(){
    doc = new ActiveXObject("Word.Application"); // creates the word object
    doc.Visible=true; // display Word window
    doc.Documents.Open("C:\\temp\\doc1.doc"); // specify path to document
    I know that this topic has been treated in other posts but none of these has solved my problem, I dont know if is because de IE Version (8), I will appreciate if someone con help me with this issue.
    It doesnt matter if the solution implies activex or some third party API free or commercial.

    response.setHeader ("Content-Disposition","inline;filename=" + vo.getFileName()); This is the line that causes it to open in a browser.
    The problem here is that you are using a link to a document...or it appears that way. I dont have any experience with a link to a direct document.
    What I've always done is in the Java class I read the document into an object, then write that object to the ServletOutputStream.
    So something like this:
    1) Set Headers
    2) Get word document into some sort of Java object
    3) Write that object to the ServletOutputStream
    My documents are mostly built on the fly, so hence I need an object anyhow. If you store your files in the database, you will need one too.
    I personally would attack it the same way if my files were on the OS as I'd never want a direct link to a physical file. Rather I'd want a link to a page which opens a file.

  • Turn off Office Documents opening in Browser

    I've gone into Site Settings/Advanced Settings and set it so that Office documents will open only in the client application and NOT in the Browser, but it still tries to open them in the browser.
    What am I missing?

    Hi Elmo,
    Pls check the below
    Navigate to site collection feature and search for "Open Documents
    in Client Applications by Default" and activate the feature.
    if you want to change only for particular document library then from document library settings ->General settings-> advance settings->under Opening
    Documents in the Browser section->Open in
    the client application.

    I am getting this response when I am trying to open a file: Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser.”  What do I do?  I have opened this up in the past without a problem.

    Back up all data.
    If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
    from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
    From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
    The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
    If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
    If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

    Hi Amar,
    According to your descritpion, my understanding is that the Server Message bar was missing when you open documents with IE 11, and it worked well with Chrome.
    Please test with IE 10. If it can work, please use IE 10 mode in IE 11.
    Please add your site into IE Trusted Sites, compare the rsult.
    Also, add your site into Compatibility view.

  • PDF documents won't open in browser page

    I've been having trouble with Safari lately. This is my main browser, and whenever I try to open any PDF documents, I get an error message that goes something like "There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found." Whenever I have to see a PDF document, I have to open another browser (IE 9) and paste the URL in order to view the document. I...think that this error has been showing up ever since I updated Adobe Reader... =/
    Is there any way that I can fix this?
    * Currently have Safari 5.0.2

    think that this error has been showing up ever since I updated Adobe Reader
    By way of experiment, if you uninstall and reinstall your Adobe Reader, does Safari still display the same behavior?
    (Wondering here if your nppdf32.dll, which controls the Adobe PDF plugin, might be slightly damaged. I think the relevant copy of the file that Safari uses lives in the Reader files. If so, a reinstall of Reader may help.)

  • Adobe reader will not open documents in the browser. What do I do?

    I do not know anything about technical jargon or anything about add-ons or plug-ins, I just know that typically if I open a PDF file from a website it opens just fine in the browser. However, I am unable to open PDFs inside of Adobe Reader. When I do, the error message reads as follows:
    "Adobe Reader cannot show documents in this browser.
    We are sorry, but Adobe Reader is unable to show documents in this browser configuration.
    Please use your browser to download this file and open it in Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat.
    To avoid this message in the future, many browsers provide a way to turn off certain add-ons, and some are able to show this document natively. Please contact your browser vendor for more details."
    I have no idea how to fix this, as Adobe Reader is installed and I assume it is installed correctly? Please, any help would be fantastic.

    Disable the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and use the external Adobe Reader application or Preview application instead.
    *Firefox > Preferences > Applications > Adobe PDF document : Use Adobe Reader
    PDF files may also be found under another entry like Portable document.

    Nothing to do with the download; you need to open Adobe Reader once after the install is complete, and accept the EULA.

  • How to disable "Edit in browser" button in office documents that open in browser

    guys,
    Environment:
    sharepoint 2010
    installed Office Web app
    i installed office word apps and integrated it with sharepoint 2010 and all the office documents now open in the browser. but this also give the qualified users access to the button "Edit in Browser" while viewing the document in the browser (and if the user
    selects to do this and saves then it creates an office 2010 document in the document library), is there any way to disabled the "edit in browser" option completely for all the users, i dont want any users to edit documents online.
    thanks
    sameer.

    Ok so i came up with hack to 'hide' the edit link ..
    You need to edit the css file here on your server
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\INC\1033\WordViewer\WordViewer.css
    and add this
     div [title="Edit in Browser"]{display:none};
    And to hide the edit capabilties for Powerpoint app - add this jquery
    $('iframe[id*="MSOPageViewerWebPart"]').ready(function () {
            $('iframe[id*="MSOPageViewerWebPart"]').contents().find('.ms-cui-ctl-medium').each(function () {
                if ($(this).text() == "Edit in Browser")
                    $(this).hide();
    Obviously not great solutions, but works for now.

  • Word document does not open in browser

    Hi
    I have a SharePoint 2013 On-Premise Deployment.  I have several sites and in each site is a document library which contains docx, xlsx and pdf.  All client machines have Office 2013 installed.
    I want all file types to open in browser. I have change the document library settings to only open in browser and the site-collection feature "Open word in client" is disabled.
    All xlsx and pdf open in the browser however docx do not.  They open in Office Word. This is the same for both IE and Chrome.
    What can I do to make  docx open in the browser?

    Hi,
    Please refer to the following article.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff431687(v=office.15).aspx
    In SharePoint 2010, Office Web Apps was an service application, now In SharePoint 2013 it is a separate product, it has to installed on separate server and configured the settings in SharePoint 2013 server to open in the web browser.
    Without configuring Office Web apps, you can still open Excel application in Web browser.  This is due to the Excel Services service application.
    In SharePoint Online(Office 365), office web apps is installed and configured automatically, you don't have to do anything on this front.
    Whereas in SharePoint 2013 On-premises, you need to take care of installing and configuring Office Web apps.
    Hope this answered your queries.
    Please don't forget to mark it answered, if your problem resolved or helpful.

  • Using PC to open up documents via Phone Browser - ...

    I naturally assumed I could dbl-click on a document in Phone Browser, open it up in Word, edit it, and save it back to the phone. I was very surprised when the document opens up in Read-Only mode! Surely this can't be right, and I'm doing something wrong - how do I open up a document on the phone, but using my PC? I'm connnected to the phone via Bluetooth...

    I do not have 9300i any longer, but if you first move the file to another folder in PC (Suite will ask for "would you like to convert" if I remember right), can you edit it normally after that ?

  • SharePoint 2013 cannot view PDF documents in mobile browser with office web apps

    Hi,
    I'm receiving the following error when viewing SharePoint 2013 PDF documents in a mobile browser after clicking on the filename:
    "Viewing of .pdf files has been disabled in Microsoft Word Mobile Viewer. Please get in touch with your helpdesk."
    My Question
    Is viewing PDF documents in mobile browsers with Office Web Apps SP1 actually supported?  If so, how can I enable it?  I've already have pdf viewing working in non-mobile browsers. Word documents open just fine on mobile browsers too.
    I'm getting conflicting answers for pdf mobile viewing support from various sources:
    You've got Microsoft toting that they've added in PDF viewing on any device for Office Web Apps
    http://blogs.office.com/2013/07/03/pdfs-in-the-word-web-app/
    A MS support person saying saying it is not supported
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/office_web_apps_server_2013_support_blog/archive/2013/12/31/enabling-pdf-previews-in-document-libraries-with-office-web-apps-2013-in-sharepoint-2013-open-link-does-not-work-from-preview.aspx
    Another person implying that it should work because you can disable pdf browsing for mobile browsers only
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/office_resource_kit/archive/2013/07/24/control-whether-pdfs-open-in-word-web-app-or-the-default-pdf-reader.aspx
    What I've tried
    When I started looking into this there was a mobile WOPI entry:
    Application     : WordPdf
    Extension       : PDF
    ProgId          :
    Action          : mobileView
    IsDefaultAction : False
    ServerName      : 20SP8
    WopiZone        : internal-http
    I tried experimenting with tweaking this binding by changing the DefaultAction to true, and even removing it altogether via:
    Get-SPWopiBinding -Action "MobileView" -Application "WordPDF" | Remove-SPWopiBinding -Confirm:$false
    But I still get the same message.
    I removed all the WordPdf bindings and re-added them via:
    New-SPWOPIBinding –ServerName "<myserver>" –Application "WordPDF" -AllowHTTP
    No dice.  In fact the mobileview binding doesn't even come back... but I guess that is a different issue altogether.
    Version
    SharePoint 2013 (SP1)
    Office Web Apps Server (SP1)
    Farm Setup
    Internal facing only
    2 front end servers, 1 app server, 1 office web apps server

    I think the PDF support, if it exists, in only in Office 365. Always remember that the Office 365 and on premises versions will never be in sync. On premise is updated using periodic service packs and Office 365 has continuous updates. (I've heard every
    10 days.)
    In my Office 365 / IE 10 tests, the PDFs open in the browser's default PDF viewer, in my case FoxIt Reader. So I can't prove one way or the other about support in Office Web Apps.
