Does anyone care for Light Scribe?

I just saw a great value package at OWC for an internal Samsung 20x DVD Light Scribe Drive; (comes with Light Scribe Software and blank discs).

I currently have a 12x Pioneer 111D
OWC also has a straight up Pioneer 20x DVD Writer Drive (No Light Scribe)
I know the limitations of Light Scribe for printing. But wonder, (for just straight up titles), if it might beat printing to disc with an Epson Stylus 380 printer?
And how bout the speed Light Scribe takes to print a few simple titles on a disc? Problem?
(I've heard it takes forever - compared to the Epson straight to disc?)
Any problem with Media compatibility for a Light Scribe Samsung Burner?

I use Light Scribe with my external LaCie DVD device. It's funny... nothing more... nothing less. I can't tell you how long it will take to print a simple title, because I use it for complex designs only. It takes about 30min to print... which is a very long time, guess. I don't use it on my primary computer, but on a spare one... so it dosn't bother me at all during my daily work to wait for it to finish.
My opinion - it is not a "Must Have"... but it's nice to have.

No. AppleCare is an extension to the warranty. The warranty does NOT cover damage only material and workmanship of the ortiginal product.

I am going to be getting a Mac in my office this summer, and I need a new PDA. The low-end Palm Z22 will be fine for my needs, but I must be able to sync with Outlook as that's what I must use for work. Does anyone know if I would be able to do this? If I have to have additional software and what it is?

Hi there,
I don't know for sure, if you have not seen this, you may want to look at it. All sorts of great conduits for palm and various mail apps. The developer is a nice fellow and helped me with a conduit for my Visor and mail app.

HT4528 does apple care for iphone cover theft?

I am trying to decide whether to get apple care for new iphone or verizon insurance for my daughter. I am most worried about breakage, but she is traveling this summer so a little concerned about theft?
Also for breakage which plan is better?

AppleCare plus is an enhanced warranty which will extend the warranty and phone support to 2 years, cover manufacturing defects and allow for two out-of-warranty replacements due to breakage, water damge, etc. for a $49 deductible. It does not cover theft or loss.

I've heard rumours about Lion being released on the 14th/9th but I would like to know if anyone knows for SURE the date and if possible, time that OS X Lion will be released?

Apple hasn't announced a specific date. Anything that you might find indicating a release date is speculation. The good thing is that, since Lion is a download, it will be available immediately after it is announced (providing Apple's servers can handle the demand).

Does anyone in Telstra know when civil works are scheduled to be done? Does anyone care?

A saga When rationalising from 2 phone lines down to one, Telstra disconnected the fax line that my ADSL2 was connected to by mistake, and advised me that it would be quicker, and I would get better performance if I now connected to cable (it showed as being available) rather than they reconnecting ADSL it to the other copper phone line. Technician came and pulled cable through from house to an existingTelstra pit in footpath - no problem.Then had to get the cable from that pit to the next Telstra pit 1m away via a conduit. The existing conduit between the pit was 'full' of other cables- now a big problem ! My 'next day connection' then went into the black hole that is Telstra 'Civil Works' . I got an email stating that 'due to the complexity of my installartion' it could take up to 21 business days to do these works - this equates to almost a month in elapsed time. My questions to someone in Telstra who cares are- Is breaking through a footpath, digging a 1 metre trench, installing a conduit and making good really 'complex' ?- Why is there no visibility from anywhere in Telstra as to when these civil works are actually scheduled to be done by the contractor? Saying that it can take upto a month elapsed is not good enough, and after spending over an hour on the phone to Telstra talking to billing, activations and then works I am none the wiser. The cop out from all in Telstra I have spoken to is that Civil Works are sub contracted and therefore are not visible to anyone who I can talk to on the phone. As a customer the whole experience has been appalling, and I suggest Telstra work out a way to be able to let their customers know when "Civil Works" are scheduled to happen. Surely a phone call to the allocated contractor would not be too hard???

for the specific information you are requesting, I don't know if Crowdsupport will be the most helpful thing for you.
Crowdsupport is made up primarily of customers and staff who often are not on duty and are helping of their own accord in their own time, and as such would not have access to account specific information such as you require.
My understanding is that it hasn't changed much and with the civil works, if they are on public property there is a level of local government involvement which can lead to an x factor, where until the work is approved that way it is sort of not very specific, however, you could lodge a complaint, and you will be allocated a case manager who can keep in touch with you on a regular basis until the issue is resolved... They will be able to provide any updates on time frame which Telstra have at the time, however even then might not be able to give you specifics until everything is in place for the works...

I know Im not the only 'crying' about this...but seriously...where have we come from just a few years ago when you offered feature phones that were actually half decnt for those of us who cant afford or DONT WANT to spend half our paycheck on the data packages...It seems like we've taken steps BACK with the basic phone you currently offer! The brightside is the only one remotely close to what used to be available...but look at the reviews on any website, its terrible. Is it really that hard, or too much to ask for a decent camera (w flash maybe?!), internet browser, etc...the Samsung Rogue and LG Envy 3 are way ahead of this phone from 3 years ago..cant we step it up?

Yes, take a close look at the latest VZW offerings. There is nothing good in the basic phones.
If I don’t like touch screen and I have passed the flip phone era, then there are in fact only two (2) phones offered by the Verizon: LG Cosmos 2 and Samsung Intensity III.
Are these phones any good? I don’t think so. The quality of these phones is not even close to the quality of basic phones that we had in the past.

I can’t give any opinion as a user because I don’t own LG Cosmos 2. But based on the opinions of others VZW customers, I wouldn’t buy this phone or recommend to anyone. And then, based on what I see and read, I could say that this phone is very poorly designed and it’s out-of-date on some of the features.
1. The camera has only 1.3 Megapixel - this is like moving backward instead of going forward.
2. There is no video.
3. Only 2” screen.
Why ALL the basic phone models must be slim? I don’t might to have a phone 1” wider.
There is no variety of choices on the design front. I think that most of the basic phone users could prefer to have a phone in the size of the iPhone or Samsung Galaxy, just to have a bigger numbers and a bigger screen size.
Samsung Intensity III
I am the owner of one of this. I “upgraded” my old Samsung Sway (4 years without any problems) to Samsung Intensity III, and I am experiencing any kind of issues – issues, which I never had with my four previous phones (diff models).
Since this is the third Samsung Intensity III in three weeks, I think that I could give honest opinion based on facts.
I had to replace the phone twice for different reasons.
With the first phone, I was experiencing very poor signal, drop calls and terrible sound.
With the second phone, after first night in standby mode, the battery was almost discharged. The battery and the charger have been replaced. On the same day, I spent hours with VZW tech support to fix cracking voice and windy noise in the background. At the end I was told that it might be a problem with the phone and I should go to the store and replace the phone.
The phone was replaced. The cracking voice and windy noise is gone but I still have a weak signal and I hear from the callers that sometimes my voice sound like I was distant from the phone.
Poor design issues:
1. The keys (on the front panel) are so small that is very difficult to touch one key without touching another.
2. The orange color of the symbols on the keyboard made the symbols hard to read.
3. VERY small pictures. According to the phone specification: “Display 2.4 inches”. I wonder how it was measured, when the actual width is less than 2” and height approx 2”. But to see the picture in this size, you must set the picture as wallpaper. Otherwise the size of the picture, in the ‘full view’ is only 1 1/2” x 1 1/8”.
4. The back cover is made so cheap that I am afraid that I can break after a few openings.
5. Poor signal
So far, it look like the Samsung Intensity III could be the worst cell phone I have owned.
I just don’t understand the phone manufacturers. Why do they cease production of a good quality phone, only to replace by piece of crap?

Does anyone care why I don't let Adobe update me automatically?

I'm now going on 3 hours trying to regain control of my computer, and there's a whole collection of Safari windows that I had and can't get back, none of them even using Flash.
I sure wish there were an alternative to this coercive, arrogant provider. A great example of what's wrong with monopolies.
And the last half hour has been since I first clicked "Contact Adobe."

Just a fellow Mac user and Adobe user.
I make my living (meager as it is) with Adobe software, so I put in time here between projects, helping out.

GateKeeper is good for protesting against c r a p p y software, but it can hinder things while it does so. I was one of the first 10,000 people to install Mavericks, and so far (knock on wood) it's been almost completely trouble free. I've got a nine-month-old Mini with a Corei5 and I bumped it to 16Gb RAM so things went, and still go, pretty smooth and quick.
Being as I'm bilingual (I have five PCs and four Macs) I have to deal with both Windows and Apple updates as well as third party stuff like Roxio, Adobe, Intuit, Canon and more.
I've learned over the years the NEVER EVER EVER update anything manually.
Sure, it's a P.I.T.A. having to run Windows and Apple updates on nine machines every Tuesday, but I don't get anything I don't want and I have control over what's going on. I'm a total control freak when it comes to my computers, so that matters a lot.

I have an integration issue between BI 7.0 and PI 7.10 system. Web Services are available on PI 7.10 system, I must call that Web Service from BI system. I have got any idea, one of the approaches with ABAP Outbound Proxy. Another way with Web Services is (I am not sure, please correct me if I am wrong in this approach) ; Create DSO object on BI; Activate this DSO, we get FM and Web Service; to this FM add necessary code and wrap with Web Serices (Web Service Client) call we web serivices on PI.
Please let me know Web Serives approach bit clear, which is very great help.

Does anyone have any new recommendations to help iTunes recognize that my 128 iPhone and 128 iPad aren't 16 GB models?

I have suffered from this problem for years, but since upgrading to 128 iOS devices in September, the mysterious iTunes/iOS hidden data disease has gotten intolerable. Here's the deal:
I use my iPhone and iPad mostly for media consumption. I don't have a ton of apps. I have lots of videos, music through iTunes Match, and a few pictures. I'm one of those dinosaurs who doesn't use the cloud but downloads it, stores it, and syncs it via USB frequently (which I would bet is the root of my problem). Although I have a large capacity devices, I sync almost daily. And each time I sync, my displayed free space and the space iTunes allows me to use differs more and more. Old fixes used to involve such things as restoring the devices, turning off automatic syncing, turning off photo syncing, turning off other syncing apps, etc. And these things were temporary fixes.
Let me give you an example of what I mean by temporary. It has been exactly eight days since I last restored my iPad to brand spanking new, retaining nothing. In those eight days and approximately eight or nine manual USB syncs, each with an average of 60 GB transferred, I mysteriously have managed to lose 40 GB. This afternoon during my most recent sync, iTunes showed 86.3 GB free. However, as usual, it wouldn't sync anything close to that. By the time I had whittled my selections down to an acceptable amount, it still showed I had 47.2 GB free both in iTunes and in Settings on the iPad. Yet when tested it by trying to sync a 50 MB app, it said there was not enough available space. In days past, problems like this would take weeks or maybe even months to accumulate. And the culprit would usually be the "Other" category. When that happened, the remedies I described would help. This new beast is something else, though. Like I said, this took only eight days.
I finally decided to post something, though, after I reset my iPhone to factory settings this evening. When I was syncing the initial apps and videos, it would not let me sync more than 30 GB of material. I don't know what to do, guys. I bought the maximum capacity devices because I like my HD content. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? If you say I just need to sync less, (1), Apple needs to get its act together, and (2) It might sound crazy, but I can probably only push it to 2 days, so I'd only be postponing my problems a few days.
If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Forgive me if this has been addressed elsewhere. I have spent time searching, but all I found was the answers I have already tried numerous times.

Thanks for that 'sberman' - because my iPhone is backed-up to my work computer (only at this stage) I have had to call our IT Department in Adleaide. (4 times this morning). The last guy managed to get the phone into 'DFU Mode' - no more recovery mode screen - (kind of 'asleep' perhaps) from my understanding of same. I am awaiting a call again from IT so they can get my computer to actually recognise my iPhone on the C Drive. This also happened to one of my colleagues in Newman (WA). She got so frustrated with the whole process that she bought another phone the next time she was in 'civilisation.' She hasn't had any problems since. (Cross fingers).

Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

My backlight on my macbook pro unibody is not working. The lights do not come on. Does anyone know how to fix this manually? Im also missing screes to the back of my computer holding it in shape. My battery needs to be replaced as well. How do i do all of this? Id also like to replace my RAM.

For the keyboard backlight:
Have you tried pressing the "lights on" F-key, that has like a half-round rays of light over a bar symbol (currently F6 on my Mac, but may be different on other models)? If it doesn't work, does anything show on the screen?
If a crossed-out symbol pops up onscreen when you press the F-key, that means that automatic keyboard lighting is enabled and the Mac thinks surroundings are too bright already. Go to System Preferences / Keyboard and uncheck the "Automatically illuminate keyboard..." item, then try again.
For the screws:
Visit www.powerbookmedic.com or www.ifixit.com and see in their Mac parts section for a replacement screw set. You will need to know your Mac's model, printed on the bottom lid, to ensure you get the correct parts for that particular computer.
For the RAM:
While in either of the two places I mentioned above, visit their How-To / DIY section for instructions on how to replace RAM on your Mac. Then visit www.crucial.com, www.corsair.com, www.kingston.com, www.otherworldcomputing.com or any other RAM maker, use their RAM advisor together with your Mac's model to select the correct RAM upgrade kit for your Mac.
