Does G4 have firewire Port?

I'm pretty new to the whole world of Apple and Macs. I've got an 800 mHz Power PC G4. This computer I know for a fact has the slower USB ports (i.e not 2.0). I'm just wondering if there is a firewire port on this computer. I've never used fire wire, but I'm using various scanners at this point and I noticed, using the USB port make for some very slow scanning. I don't even know if the Canon Pixima that I have can use fire wire, but I'm thinking that if it does, using the fire wire port on the G4 in conjunction with the Pixima scanner, will speed things up.
And, if this computer does have fire wire, when shopping for a new scanner, I can make sure the scanner has a fire wire connection. Does that make sense?

The Apple Pro Speaker port is very high powered and cannot be connected to anything other that the Apple Pro Speakers (which came with some but not all iMac G4s). Apple Pro Speakers are pretty good actually, definitely better than the internal ones on the current Alu iMacs. The port is high power so no separate supply is needed, connecting anything else will damage that device and has been known to cause major problems with the iMac itself - there's a reason the port differs! Pro Speakers are widely available on ebay. A close version of them used USB as the connection but these where the ones for the Power Mac G4 Cube.

  • How can I do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder which does not have firewire out/input? it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite RCA output?

I need to do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder (http://store.sony.co...ber=HDRAX2000/H) ..this camcorder model does not have firewire out/input ..it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite A/V video output..
I wonder how can I plug this camcorder to the firewire port of my laptop? Browsing on internet I found that Grass Valley Company produces this converter http://www.amazon.co...=A17MC6HOH9AVE6 ..but I am not sure -not even after checking the amazon reviews- if this device will send the video signal through firewire to my laptop, in order to live streaming properly? ..anyone in this forum could help me please?
    Thanx

I can't broadcast with the built in iSight webcam... how would I zoom in or zoom out? or how would I pan? I've seem people doing it walking with their laptops but that's not an option for me... there's nothing wrong with my USB ports but that's neither an option to stream video because as far as I know through USB you can't connect video in apple operating systems ..you can for sure plug any video cam or photo camera through usb but as a drive to transfer data not as a live video camera...  is by firewire an old interface developed by apple that you can connect all sorts of cameras to apple computers... unfortunately my new sony HDR-AX2000 camcorder doesn't have firewire output...

  • Can I Hook an Apple TV to an older TV that does not have HDMI Ports using a connector cable

I have an older Sony HD TV and would like to hook my Apple TV to that TV but it does not have HDMI Ports.  Can I hook my Apple TV to this TV through a cable adapter that converts HDMI to Component Video and Audio (Red Green Blue Video Cables, Yellow White Audio) or HDMI to S-Video.  I have both these connections on my TV.  Thanks

Thanks, I actually meant a converter box I just wanted to make sure that using that would work.  With Amazon FireTV Sticks for example I  jhave been told that only a direct HDMI connection to the TV would allow the device to work at all.

Hi I want to back up my photos from my iPhone 5. How can I do this? I have an iPad mini but cannot sync to an iPhone as iPad does not have USB port. Can you help please

You have to back them up to a computer. You would import them either to iPhoto or to the Photos app in your PC:

  • Does APPS have dynamic port allocation going on somewhere

    Hi Gurus,
We have a situation where 5 Test instances of Ebiz all reside on the same server. The production Instance has its own dedicated server.
We seem to get intermittent, but frequent problems with some of the test environments taking the ports which are defined for other environments in the xml file.
This issue Never occurs in production
All environments services are restarted every night - most of the time there is no problem. But sometimes, web, forms, apps listner or concurrent managers wont start - an they give errors due to locked ports.
When I run a netstat -anp | grep <port> - the output shows that one of the other environments is listening on the port in question.
I have made absolutley sure that in the xml files and httpd.conf etc - each environment has its distinct port set (which it does)
I have searched for ages on google and metalink to try to find information about dynamic ports but cant find any
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

Hey Oli, no help here I'm afraid just wanted to say I am experiencing a similar problem although mine is a situation where I have e-Biz and OAS installed. The seem to co-exist peacefully most of the time but our app also restarts every night and some mornings the app is not available. Recently it was fixed by shutting down the OAS server and restarting.
So no resolution yet but I feel your pain. I was just starting to look into how I would use netstat to help my troubleshoot and also look at net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range set in /etc/sysctl.conf.

  • OneStep asking for firewire connection-my Sony HDR-SR11 doesn't have firewire port. Help.

The question says it all.  I wanted to use OneStep to move all my home movies to a DVD, but iDVD is asking me to connect via firewire and my video camera-a Sony HDR-SR11-doesn't have a firewire port.  I don't want to go through the extra step of importing into imovie because that will take a ton of time.  Any other suggestions?

Only 2 options that come to mind. The first is to do a one step from a movie (as opposed to a one step from from the camera) within the file menu in iDvd. And yes, you will have to export first from the video editing app (iMovie / FCP) prior to using iDvd's One Step. No way to avoid this when using apple's iLife.
The other option is to use a hardware approach; something like Sony's Dvdirect that requires no PC and burns directly to DvD-R at the touch of one button. Menus aren't as nice as iDvd's but the quality is very good. Try ebay if this option appeals to you. I picked up one for about the same price as iLife software.
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • How do i tranfer all my data across from my old macbook to the new macbook pro (It doesn't have Firewire port), How do i tranfer all my data across from my old macbook to the new macbook pro (It doesn't have Firewire port)

I have recently just bought a macbook pro and it doesn't have a firewire port. So how can i transfer all my music, photos, docs and videos across. Any help ???

My new-ish MBP has a Firewire port, but it's not the old-style one you might be familiar with.  Look at the ports for the Firewire symbol (looks like a Y).  You will need an adapter to connect an old-style Firewire cable to it.  (Yeah, I know there are names for them and "old-style" isn't one of them, but they slip my mind at the moment.)
Alternately, since you should be backing up anyway, do a full backup from the old machine and then import from the backup on the new one.  See my Mac Backup Guide* ASAP if you aren't currently backing up!

  • I have an iMac. It does not have CD port. I have downloaded CD music on to my PC and syncd with my iPod. I assumed that the iPod would transfer that music to my iMac but it doesn't. Any advice please.

I have an Imac. It does not have a CD port. I have downloaded CD music on to my old PC and sync'd with my iPod. I'd assumed that this would then transfer the same music on to my iMac. That's not the case. I iMac removes music it has not previously stored from my iPod. Any advice please?

iTunes only allows you to transfer songs from an iPod if they were purchased in the iTunes Store.
As they were transferred from a CD, you have to use an application like Senuti > http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/ It will transfer the music from an iPod to iTunes

  • Satellite M100 - Does a disabled firewire port saves battery power?

    Hey everybody
I do not need IEEE so..
If I disable firewire in device manager will it turn it off and will it help to save battery power?

    Hi Dmitrij
I doubt that disabled firewire port will help you to save battery power.
If you want to save the battery power you should check the Toshiba Power Saver settings and options.
    Check the HowTO document
+How to setup my computer for optimum battery usage?+
You can find it in Forums HowTo area.
If you are using the Vista then I recommend checking the Vista Power settings.
More details you will find in "HowTo" doc:

  • Connecting MiniDV camera through Ilink to a Macbook w/o firewire port

Hmm. Is there a solution to connecting my miniDV camcorder to a Macbook that does not have Firewire?
Should I regret not going Pro as I mistakenly thought the speed of USB2.0 would be able to handle video?
Will I ever be able to ditch the PC and go totally Mac?
Is there a box of tricks to covert firewire 4 pin to USB?
iLink to Wifi box of tricks?
    iLink to Ethernet bot?
or will I have to stick going through the Windoze PC?
(I've tried a firewire to usb cable and from another thread I see that doesn't work as mini dv 'tape needs' to go through firewire..)
The camera is a JVC GR-DVL767, MPEG4 DV in/out, AV out.
    Maybe a new camera too?
    Cheers!
    Steve

There is no way to turn USB to firewire.
Your camera is not MPEG 4, it is simply DV. The only way to capture DV material is through a computer that has a firewire port - preferably a FW400.
Capturing into a PC then bringing it over to a Mac to edit is going to be problematic. Unless you have exactly the same codec on both machines, there will be incompatiblities. There are many flavors of video and often PCs and Macs don't share them.
If the Mac is within the return period, turn it back in and upgrade to a MacBookPro - preferably the 15" or 17" to avoid video card issues.
If the Mac is past the return period, sell it.

  • My macbook does not have a firewire port. Is there any kind of adapter that will allow me to use my advc 300 (which need to plug in to the FireWire port)?

My macbook does not have a firewire port. Is there any kind of adapter that will allow me to use my advc 300 (which need to plug in to the FireWire port)?

Firewire, USB and the recent thunderbolt use completely different protocols, therefore there are no adapters for mutually adapting them, just a computer, which allows connecting them, and will work as an interface. For example, if you have an external disk in an enclosure with only FW connection and another one with USB connection, just your mac, having both, allows their interconnectivity.
If your mac does not have FW (the brief alu MB series, Air) you cannot connect a FW device, if only FW port is there.

  • My Mac does not have a firewire port to hook up my Canon HD video camera.  How do I do it?

  • I have a firewire scanner but my new computer does  not have a firewire port

I have a Nikon Coolscan firewire scanner, but my new computer does not have a firewire port. Are there any suggestions on how I can continue to use my scanner? Is there some form of Firewire to USB interface?
    Thanks for any ideas.
    John

I would think Gene's adapter will work fine, but if you are stuck, it might be useful to find larger number of Nikon users to ask.  The DPReview forums come to mind, except they are split into sections.  If you are on flickr, there is bound to be a general Nikon group.  The Canon group on flickr gets a ton of traffic and has a trillion members.  Then there are places like Fred Miranda and Luminous Landscape, that is mostly populated by grown ups with lots of knowledge.  On second thoughts, forget about Luminous Landscape, unless that was a typo in your first post, and you actually have a Hasselblad or PhaseOne scanner
