Both Mac OS X and iOS include a fully-integrated virtual memory system that you cannot turn off; it is always on. Both system also provide up to 4 gigabytes of addressable space per 32-bit process. In addition, Mac OS X provides approximately 18 exabytes of addressable space for 64-bit processes. Even for computers that have 4 or more gigabytes of RAM available, the system rarely dedicates this much RAM to a single process.
To give processes access to their entire 4 gigabyte or 18 exabyte address space, Mac OS X uses the hard disk to hold data that is not currently in use. As memory gets full, sections of memory that are not being used are written to disk to make room for data that is needed now. The portion of the disk that stores the unused data is known as the backing store because it provides the backup storage for main memory.
Although Mac OS X supports a backing store, iOS does not. In iPhone applications, read-only data that is already on the disk (such as code pages) is simply removed from memory and reloaded from disk as needed. Writable data is never removed from memory by the operating system. Instead, if the amount of free memory drops below a certain threshold, the system asks the running applications to free up memory voluntarily to make room for new data. Applications that fail to free up enough memory are terminated.

Hi everyone,
I deployed 2 hyper v vitual machines a while ago, and i did that because I needed to test my current game Project, which is an
online game. However, i've had some problems with my Windows installation then I had to reset the pc by making it a refresh
install. I still have the hyper v virtual disks, but i cannot attach it to a new hyper-v virtual machine. it pops up this message:

didnt know I had to make the disk sharable. How can I force to attach the hard disk to a new hyper-v? I dont want to go t
hrough the whole proccess of installing the operating system all over again and updating it....

According to the error message , it seems that it is not a permission issue .
The VM is Gen 1 or Gen2 ?
Generally the error message occurs when you enable "shared vhdx" on standalone/client hyper-v host :
Please try to attach the VHDx file to IDE controller if it is a Gen 1 virtual machine (because only the SCSI controller has the option "virtual hard disk sharing" and Gen 1 VM only can boot from IDE )
All in all , please do not use this feature without CSV or Scale-Out File Server with SMB 3.0 on file-based storage .
If it is not the case , please detail steps what you did .

I am attempting to create new virtual machines in Hyper-V on Windows 10 Enterprise Tech. Preview and I am continually getting the error "The storage where the virtual hard disk is located does not support virtual hard disk sharing.". I am not trying
to setup a shared VM or VHD, just a basic VHD.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

This issue is listed in the release notes and currently there is no fix on our side. Have to wait for the next build.

The statement is miss-quoted. It was about Hyper -V. An update KB3053898
was released to fix that

Frame bytes, virtual memory and you

Hi,
I made a screensaver for a client using Flash and FlashJester
Creator Pro. They told me that on some of their older machines, it
is running out of virtual memory and crashing the machines. So we
started looking at eliminating sections of the screensaver.
We ran the diagnostics on the original FLA, and this is what
we get:

So frame 7 is the problem right? I delete that entirely, just

Can somebody explain this to me. Does anybody have any better ideas

When this happens FireFox has to be closed using TaskMan and NO crash report is generated by Firefox!
This crash happens daily because I am using hibernation on a regular basis. But there has been no crash report in abort:crashes since September 2011!

The Organizer does not support the color space in the file

I just purchased and installed PSE 8 as an upgrade to PSE 6. My catalog correctly shows all of my existing images. However, when I try to import photos into the Organizer, I get a message that nothing was imported. The reason given is that "The Organizer does not support the color space in the file." This happens with photos taken on my iPhone as well as those from my Canon PowerShot A1100 IS. Any suggestions?

It turns out that this problem went away after the program crashed. Everything seems to be working well now.

Not memory consumed, no swap file usage

We have a 4 processor Windows 2000 server with 4 gig of Ram.While running a data load and calc process against one database in Essbase that pegs the cpu at 2 gig, the Essbase server info window shows no memory being used and no swap file space being used....Why? Calendar (not called iCal anymore) does not include that capability any longer, apparently. What you have to do now is go to Automator and create a Calendar Alert action. You can add a Run AppleScript object to the action and paste in your script there, then when you save it, it will become available as a choice in the alert menu in Calendar.

Huge amount of virtual memory and system slows to a crawl

I have a mac mini with 5 GB of memory running os x mavericks and server 3, prior to the mavericks upgrade, it ran fine.Now it is showing an excessive amount of virtual memory in use, 40-70 gb, and the system slows to a near stop: e.g. switching apps takes over 30 seconds, starting one takes well over a minute, pressing command tab doesn't respond with list of apps and the display doesn't always wake up. A hard reboot (hold down power button to turn off, then back on) seems to be the only thing that works to get out of this. I tried scheduling a shutdown and reboot with energy saver but that just resulted in a completely non-responsive system. When the display does wake up, there's nothing in the activity monitor memory display that indicates a high memory usage.
I'm considering wiping out the hard drive and reinstalling unless somebody has some other ideas.
Does anybody have similar problems with mavericks and server 3?

I managed to look at it before the system hung up and it looks like devicemgrd is the top user of memory. Of course, I don't know if this is indicative of a problem as I have only 1 server. I saw it up to 1.4 GB just a little bit ago and now it is down below 800MB and dropping.

881 IOS support for IPSEC and OSPF

Is there an IOS image for the 881 that contains IPSEC feature set AND support for OSPF? I recently purchased an 881 and it came default with this system image "c880data-universalk9-mz.152-4.M4.bin", however this image does not support OSPF. I need an IOS image that supports both OSPF and IPSEC feature sets. Please advise.

Ive been trying to update my macbook pro 8,2 firmware from the apple website but first the smc update gives me an error saying that my software does not support that update and belive me i checked and iam downloading the correct one

so basically i was wanting to update my smc firmware and the EFI Boot ROM version but for the EFI Boot Rom when i click on it says page no found and for the smc firmware, when i do download it says that the my software does not support it, even though it is completely compatible, i checked the system requirements given by the page.
iam trying to do this because i have issues with the chargin, it keeps giving me a "not charging" messege.
Help please...
