Does it make a sens to have network account without Mobile

Hello there,
I am setting a server with network account.
From my Imac, I joint it to the server, I can see the remote home folder.
But I really ask me if it make a sens to work without Mobile because Illustrator CS4 crate file in /Home/user/Library/Preferences/Adobe...
Without Mobile enable it can not crarte that folder on the remote account (in the server side). To make it working, I enable Mobile it the Synch setting. Then when you lunch for the fusrt time Illustartot it creates the concerned forlder in Local, and when we log oft, the folder is synchronized into the server.
Then I ahve to enable th Mobile to make it working,
But My boss deoes not want to have Mobile. excepted for me above comment, does it make sens to work without Mobile?
thank for your point of view

Any idea? Thank

  • What does ""we are closing out the Pure Networks account" mean?

I received the email saying that "we are closing out the Pure Networks account".
Does that mean that all support for Network Magic will cease?
I am already having trouble reinstalling it.
If support is to cease, please issue a one-time patch to existing users to bypass the verification part of the installation process. That is the least you can do for your customers.

I believe Pure Networks and their product Network Magic is no longer in operation. They pulled down their support and closed their servers a year or so ago. Check this link from Linksys: http://store.linksys.com/Cisco-Software_stcVVcatId553232VVviewcat.htm

  • Why does Paypal make it so difficult to track account information completely

I own a business which takes Paypal transactions, both through eBay and through my store. I am also a Quicken user and use Quicken's one step download to quickly and easily get all of my financial information in one place. Not just for Paypal. Paypal has never been consistant on the method that they have used to supply account information. Changing catagories. Changing transaction types and never supplying . unless you dig deeply, the transaction fees seperate from the gross. Sometimes I see the gross reported. Sometimes I see the net.  Hidden .30 transaction charges. Spurious information regarding whether a transaction is available. All of these items should be line items and easily referenced to the transaction. As a business owner I am acutely aware of the importance of keeping accurate records and having this information supplied without a consistant method is both inconvient and time consuming. I am forced to sort by hand through a muddle of data in an attempt to balance an account that should be very simple.  I have to think that there is some bad blood between Intuit and Paypal since they can't even agree on a connection protocol. Intuit products connect to your account web page and actually scrape the data. This is asinine. Discuss

No, of course you are not a scammer, but would you not welcome anything that would make paypal safer? I think it takes a lot longer to show up in US accounts ie about 2 days but in the UK it is only 2 hours normally. But even if it was a few days i would rather have a payment from a genuine verified buyer who has linked their bank account than risk withdrawing funds > finding the payment reversed and my account in negative. Personally, I wouldn't welcome "ANYTHING" that makes PayPal "safer." Do you work part-time for FIFA? I am in the US. I am a consumer, not a seller or business account (although I have been, very, very early on & I am a verified buyer sand seller.) I have three credit cards and two bank accounts attached to PayPal. I have thousands of dollars in PayPal credit available to me. Yet if I want to send my daughter $200.00 it has to wait 3-5 days. I use other instant methods to transfer money to my daughters. Frankly, I have always considered it a US "Banking" law. If PayPal made money available instantly it would be evidence it would be acting as a bank and not a "funding service." But that is only my opinion, NOT a researched fact. As far as banks in the UK making funds available in 2 hours, I am very surprised. I used to do business with a Midlands pottery and cashed Barclay's "cheques" in my US bank, which cleared in 3-5 days, which is quite reasonable. Then I traveled to the factory and received a check for services rendered (less than £500.00) and I took it to a Barclay's down the street and they wanted me to open an account and wait a week! I had a passport, US military ID and a US driver's licence as identification. In the US, if you take a check to the bank it was drawn on, they will cash it with proper ID. (Of course I haven't tried this since the 90's. Maybe things have changed in the US and UK banking laws.)

  • My family all use my iCloud account to backup their phones, meaning there is not enough space for me. How can we have seperate accounts without the risk of any of us having data/photos erased or lost?

Hi. We have 4 iPads and 3 iPhones in our household. I have my own apple ID which my whole family use. This was fine until IOS6 came out, and I found I wasn't able to back up my phone because the rest of my family have used all my iCloud storage! We've now decided we all want seperate IDs and seperate iCloud accounts, but we're worried if we delete iCloud from any of the devices that it will also delete our apps, pictures, data etc. Can someone guide me along the right path here?
    Thanks
    Carly

Yes....On each device, go under "Settings....iCloud" and DELETE ACCOUNT.  This doesn't do anything to the data itself...it just "disconnects" that device from that particular account.  Then each person/device can set up their own iCloud account for storage, backup, etc.  As was mentioned above, everyone can maintain the same Apple ID for App Store to share music purchases and such, but make sure the different iCloud accounts exist when you go to restore something or you'll have someone else's stuff or a big mix of everybody's.  Don't ask me how I know this.

  • Is there a way to merge/migrate my local home folder to a network account

My family has a number of Macbooks and a couple of iMacs and we've been thinking we'd like centralized storage for our media collection and other files and I'd like an easier way to deal with these machines to keep them updated, etc.  Also we swap laptops and desktops depending on who needs to do what at a particular moment.  Is there a way to migrate an existing home folder on a macbook to an account on the server.  What I would like to be able to do is to be able to log into any computer in my home and have it look like "my" computer, with files, settings etc...  Since I am new to the server world I am confused by the terminology re: network accounts and mobile accounts.  Is there a good guide someone could recommend to get me started.  Thanks.

    Hi Yodalogger,
I hope you have yourself sorted.  I've been through alot of pain with lion server, it's very buggy at best.
Your best bet is SolidWood's suggestion of network accounts if you are constantly on the same network.  I use this at home and it works very well.  For simplicity, you can use WorkGroup Manager for this as it's more intuitive!
If, you need a mobile account, this is what I did.
I migrated local macbook accounts to server machine (migration assistant).
I renamed the /User home folders on macbook to _backup.  For safety.
I deleted local accounts from macbook.  Keep your _backup home folders!  Also, you will need to have a local Admin account in place.  Make sure you do not delete it.
On Server.  You will have local accounts created for all your migrated macbook accounts.  Just remove the accounts in system preferences but ensure you leave the /User home folders in place when prompted.
On server. I created the new users (old mackbook accounts) and groups in the server app.  This doesn't create or overwrite your existing home folders.  So go ahead and name them exactly the same as before and make sure the accounts match your home folder's names.
On server, using profile manager, I set up mobility etc., for the device.  That is, you need to enroll your macbook with the server and configure services for it in profile manager.  You can add a placeholder for this in profile manager to configure stuff.
A handy tip to alleviate all the automatic push settings pain and heartache is to set the general payload to manual.  You can then wip up the profile manager from your macbook to install the profiles manually.  (easily done).
On Macbook, login with local admin account.
On Macbook, go to system prefs and accounts, set up your open directory stuff in the login options.
On Macbook, log out of admin.  Back at the login screen, you should see your admin account and 'Other.'  Give it a few minutes or so to figure this out.  It needs to contact the server etc. for info.
Once you have 'Other' click on it and login with one of your new network accounts.  This will log you in as a network account - you should see all your usual settings that previously existed on your macbook when it was a local account.
At this point, you whip up profile manager.  http://yourserver.local/profilemanager  Change yourserver to the name of your server.
Login to profile manager with your admin account.  I do this as I will be downloading a few profiles that only admin has access to.
So, you need to download a trust profile, your device profile, and a profile for remote management if you have set this up.  You may have seen various download buttons knocking around the the interface.  In downloads double click these to install (if it doesn't do this automatically).
    Log out of everything.
Log back in with one of your network accounts.  This time you should be prompted to create a mobile account.  Say yes and let it sync your home folders from server to macbook.
Once each mobile account is created, you can then further define user/group settings in profile manager.  You download these by logging into http://yourserver.local/mydevices as the user and download the appropriate settings.
I think thats it.  Sorry, if its not detailed enough - I'm presuming you know yourself around a mac!  I have to say the process is straightforward but Lion Server is not.  I do not get consistent results with it and I'm still trying to tame it...
By far the easiest option is network accounts.  Mobile accounts need more attention.
I hope this helps (and anybody else!)
    Paul.

    Hello,
Someone has an idea to help?
The problem is for illustrator, adobe reader and adobe pro. For all of them, when I run it with a locl account, it works, but when I run its from the same workstation but with a network account:
    - illustartor freez
    - adobe reader craches and retsat and craches...
    - Adobe Acrobat pro freez.
    Only photoshop works.
Do you have an idea how can I make it working with a network account but only from the same workstation?

  • Mac Premiere Elements 11 crashes on launch (network account only)

I am trying to use Mac Premiere Elements 11 (OS X 10.8) and it crashes every time on launch, but only for a network account. When I launch using a local administrator user, it works fine. How can I make it work for the network account?
I have already tried ensuring Read/Write permissions on my entire Home folder, and have uninstalled/reinstalled multiple times.
If it matters, the Home folders are on an external disk. The network account is set to be an administrator on the computer (this particular Mac is the Open Directory server, so it's a network user directly on the directory server).
No other application (including Photoshop Elements 11) has any issues at all.
If it is helpful, I can post the (huge) stack trace of the crash. Thank you... --Erik Bailey

    You can't... read below
No current version of Premiere works properly, if at all, over a network
-you may NOT "map" your My Documents folder to a network drive
-you MUST give all users administrator accounts to use Premiere

  • Network Account as Local Admin

Hopefully an easy question, is there a way to specify a network account in WGM that will act as an administrator account on a local machine? Ideally I'd like to have network account that I could log into that would give me administrator access to the machines on the network (that I've joined to that directory.

Unfortunately, I think the answer is no. There is a way of doing it, but it's a bit roundabout.
The account that you want to have local admin rights will have to be set up in WGM as a Mobile Account (in WGM select the relevant user, select Preferences, Mobility, Account creation/Creation tabs set to "Create mobile account......." = Always).
Sorry if I'm saying stuff you already know, but always best to start from the basics.
Mobile Accounts means the user account is copied from the server to the local machine and stored locally. It is then updated to and from the server at regular intervals. Once the account exists on the local machine, you can then go into System Preferences/Accounts, authenticate as the current local admin and select the "Allow user to administer this computer" check box.
The trouble is that you then have to do this for every computer you intend to manage, which is a bit of a pain.
So in summary, yes, it can be done, but probably considering the amount of work involved (depends to a certain extent on the number of machines you are administrating), it's almost easier to have a standard local account on each machine, which is the way I do it on my network.
You never know, there may be another way of doing it like you want, but I've never come across it or heard of it being done. If anyone out there knows any different, please feel free to enlighten us both, lol.

  • Can't always see network accounts at login screen

I just got a Mac Mini Server for my home network.  This is my first time setting up an account server and first time using OS X Server.  My server is running Lion, my client is running ML.
I have network accounts setup on the server and working.  The home directories are on the server.  I don't seem to have any issues, other than making the network accounts (I only have 4) show up on my client login screen.  In other words, if I use "Other" to type in my login information, I can login just fine. I have enabled the "show network accounts" feature on my client.
Interestingly, if I am logged in via any user on the client (network or local), using fast user switching to go to the login screen ALWAYS shows the network users.  Only on boot, or when all users are logged out, do I have this problem of the network accounts not showing up.  Even then, they do occasionally show up.
Is there a known bug here?  I've gone through several tutorials, it seems I've done all that is required.
    -Ryan

I seem to have isolated the issue.
I was using wireless for both server and client, so I switched both to ethernet to eliminate any possible issues there.  No change.
Then after some more experimenting I realized my original statement
if I am logged in via any user on the client (network or local), using fast user switching to go to the login screen ALWAYS shows the network users.
was incorrect.  It turns out I have to be logged in with a local user for the network users to show up.  So I went back and experimented with the Login Window options I configured in Profile Manager.  Here is how I had my client configured.
If I enable "Show computer's administrators", or if I disabled "Show local users", the problem goes away.  The problem only exists when I have one or the other, but not both, options enabled.  So it seems there is a bug on the client, or there is a bug in the profile that Profile Manager is pushing to the client.
Another interesting tid bit.  I temporarily changed the local user on the client to an administrator.  That left the client with two administrators and no standard users.  The problem went away.  Turning that user back into a standard user, and the problem came back.
So there's one combination of options here that isn't working. In the long run I won't have any local users anyway, so it won't matter.  This only affects me now while I'm migrating things.

  • I have Firefox 5 now, in the admin section of my web site when I edit a change in the data it does not make the change on my data file. There was no problem in my previous version.

How can I return to a previous version that did not have problem? On Safari on my lap top Mac, I do not have this problem. We tried this on another Windows computer with a 3.5 or 3.6 Firefox version and there was no problem.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site. Note: this is likely to log you out, so finish up whatever you are working on first.
    1. Clear Firefox's Cache
orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Offline Storage : "Clear Now"
    2. If needed, delete the site's cookies here
While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
Some sites appear to be incompatible with Firefox 5. The difficulty is tracking down the problem. To see whether it is caused by the new stricter HTML parser in Firefox 4+, you can turn that off. Please save any unfinished work first.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''html5''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click '''html5.parser.enable''' to toggle it to false (it should turn bold).
Then return to the problem page, reload and try again. Does that make any difference?
Here's the process to roll back if needed:
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 to your desktop for future installation. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
    Close Firefox 5.
You could install Firefox 3.6 over it (many have reported success) or you could uninstall Firefox first. If you uninstall, do not remove your personal data and settings, just the program.
Unless you have installed an incompatible add-on, Firefox 3.6 should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.

    any suggestions?

Did you try browsing your backups in the Finder ?  That is, do not go and "Enter Time Machine".  Instead, navigate to your Time Machine backup via Finder and then manually go to the time period (by folder name) you are looking for ... when you find your Aperture library you can then "Show Package Contents" and find the Master you are looking for.
