Does my mac support SATA 300?

Hello,
I have an early 2007 macbook pro, 17", 2.33Ghz and it comes with a Hitachi HTS721010G9SA00 HDD which is SATA 150. I want to buy a new hdd but the new ones are SATA 300 already. Does my macbook pro support SATA 300? I guess it should, but I just want to be sure.
     Thanks a lot,
     Jorge

Thanks for the reply guys. What about SSD drives? Is my MBP compatible with SSD drives? Would you advise any? I know nothing about SSD drives.
SSDs will be throttled back in the same way as a SATA II HD, but will be quicker by their nature (flash memory). There are probably more "quirky" issues with SSDs than SATA II HDs in SATA I Macs, so if you're looking for issue free computing, I don't know that I'd recommend one to you. Plus the price is outrageous, they are not secure, at this time there are TRIM issues with various SSDs, and the list goes on. They're not far out of their infancy, IMO.

  • Does dv6-6153cl support SATA III HDDs?

I'm having trouble with my laptop and I think I've narrowed the problem down to the HDD. I want to replace it, and upgrade it, but I'm not sure what HDDs I can use.
I'd like to know if I can install a SATA III HDD into my dv6-6153cl laptop. From what I can tell it currently has a SATA II HDD installed. Can I upgrade to SATA III or am I stuck with SATA II?

Get the SATA-III. Even if the motherboard would only support SATA-II (not true in your case) you can use SATA-III drives. SATA is fully backward compatible. But, again, your motherboard has the HM65 chipset which supports SATA-III. A good rule of thumb is if it has USB 3.0 it also has SATA-III. Not 100% true but awfully close to always true.

  • Does the 8760w support SATA 6 Gbps?

It seems the chipset supports SATA 6 Gbps but HP seems to indiciate that only SATA 3 Gbps drives are supported.
    Which is it?
    Thanks,

Any chipset feature can be blocked in the bios by the manufacturer of the notebook, not sure if HP blocked sata 6.0 in the bios or not.

  • Does DV6-6136tx support SATA III?

I just bought this DV6-6136tx a week ago and I'm wondering if i can use SATA III SSD on it.
The chipset is HM65 which should be able to support SATA III.
I want to confirm this before I upgrade my harddrive to SSD.

    Thank Kamat & Pepe.
I heard that there is a difference between the cable for SATA II and SATA III.
Do you know the connector within this laptop is installed for SATA III or only for SATAII as Kamat said?
And by the way, are you guys from HP?
The SATA III connectors may have more pins than SATA II but because SATA III is compatible with SATA II the connectors look like the same. I believe that SATA III connectors in Sandy Bridge laptops are installed for a hard drive and for an optical drive. I mean 2 different cables from 2 SATA III ports on the motherboard..
Yes, Kamat works for HP, but I don't..

  • Does my laptop support Sata 3?

Hi I own a HP ENVY 15-J181na, I am thinking of buying an SSD dive to replace the one that came with the laptop. I would like to know if this laptop supports Sata 3 so that I will be able to take full advantage of the speed of the SSD?
    Thanks

Hi: Unless someone with the same model number as yours has installed a SATA III drive, and can report that it runs at the SATA III speed, no one will be able to give you a definite answer. I can tell you that the chipset your notebook has definitely supports SATA III, but there are a few models that also supported sata III, but only ran at the SATA II speed because HP decided to hook the sata drives to the sata II drive controller instead of the SATA III controller. Most likely it will run at the SATA III speed, but there is a remote chance it won't.

  • Does PPC G5 support SATA II internal drives?

I want to change my 80gb system drive to a Western Digital RE2 500gb, it is a SATA II & I'm not sure if my computer supports that with no problem. I can't seem to get a clear answer. Does anyone know for sure or has one up & running with the second their drive functioning as normal?

I've got an original series G5 1.6 Ghz single processor and I just added a Maxtor 500 GB drive that is SATA II as well as being backward compatible with SATA I as stated by OWC and the manufacturer of the drive.
I'm also using my 500 GB as my "digital audio drive" in my recording studio using MOTU Digital Performer and various other audio applications. I've kept my original 80 GB system drive in place for the moment till I can afford a larger, faster start up drive. I needed to get a large drive for the audio files first.
While I can't speak directly to the Western Digital drives, I can say that the Maxtor with SATA I/II interfaces is fine and seems to be working without any problems. To be completely candid, I've only had the new 500 GB Maxtor drive installed for a little over a week, but I have been using it without any problems so far.
So to answer the SATA II part of your question, I believe that shouldn't be a problem if the Western Digital drive is backward compatible like the Maxtor is. Most are from what I've seen, but I guess you should carefully read the specs on the WD drive to be sure it's backward compatible too.
    Hope this helps a bit.

Just how would anyone on this forum know if your Mac and the version of OS X you have installed on your Mac will support that program/app. You didn't bother to post the model year of your Mac or the version of OS X your Mac is running.

  • Does the T61 support SATA 3gb HDD?

    Hi:
I want to install a new HDD with SATA 3Gb. Will it be supported by my T61 7658 CTO?
Will it be a difference in performance against a similar HDD with SATA 1.5Gb?
    Thanks

    Solved!

T61 can use both the SATA3 and SATA 1.5 but the maximum transfer speed will be limited to 1.5 mode...

  • Does the Mac Pro v1.1 support SATA II 6Gb/s?

Does the Mac Pro (late_2006) support SATA II 6Gb/s internal hard drives?

Of course not, not in the sense that 6G existed but you still can use any SATA II/III specification drive.
So yes they are supported in that sense.
Only limit is if you use current SSD you still get great IOPS and such just not the sustained writes.
NO Mac Pro actually has an SATA III port. And it is more about features and specs and all drives have to be backward compatible or drive vendors would be foolish and go out of business (not everyone can or wants or needs to upgrade their motherboard).
You can add PCIe SATA 6G such as CalDigit and others.

  • Does the Mac Pro Support SATA III?

Hi everyone, I've been wondering for a long time: Does the late 2012 12-Core Mac Pro support SATA III 6Gb connection? If not, is there any way of making it SATA III?

Most commercially-available rotating drives cannot possibly source data off the platters at higher than a momentary bursts of up to 125MBytes/sec, or about 1.0Gbits/sec. That means SATA-I speed is not a bottleneck.
A few drives are faster, and some SSD drives are faster.
Many drives available today are capable of transfers at up to 6Gbits/sec.They will operate correctly at the Mac Pro's 3Gbits sec Bus speed. But since they cannot produce data from the drive platters at those speeds, you get at most a tiny, momentary burst at that speed.
6Gbits/sec is far higher than other bottlenecks in the drive. There is no point in paying extra for this spec, as the drive cannot achieve it steady-state, and it provides no measurable advantage. I refer to such practices as "specsmanship". Feel free to read "cr@p".

  • When I open about this mac - more info and I switch through the tabs (display, memory, storage, support, service) it lags (fps drops, animation looks choppy not smooth). Why does this happen? (over 300 gb free, same programs installed, free desk-downloads)

When I open about this mac -> more info and I switch through the tabs (display, memory, storage, support, service) it lags (fps drops, animation looks choppy not smooth) even though all the mac (programs , interface ) works smooth . Why does this happen? (over 300 gb free, same programs installed, free desktop-downloads -no garbage there- everything neat and tidy.) Need some help. Only there it the animations goes like 2 fps and is not smooth. I do not understand why because the programs are the same so its the usage. Nothing is changed, yet i experience this little issue for a couple of days.

OK, I'm confused. When I do About this Mac > More Info in OS10.9, I don't see any animation other than the window resizing. Is that the animation you are describing?

  • Does Satelite R630-146 support SATA II (SATA-300) HDD

    Hi,
I am planning to change my current HITACHI 5K320 320GB HDD (HTS543232L9SA00) which is SATA I (*SATA-150*) to new HDD, but I can't find any information will my Toshiba Satelite R630-146 support new SATA II (*SATA-300*) HDD.
Maybe anyone has any ideas where I could find such information?
    Thanks,
    Vaidas

    Hello
SATA II HDDs are downgrade compatible to older SATA I interface. They have the same power and specification so its no problem to change the HDD to SATA II.
Furthermore there is no HDD capacity limit so you can install every 2.5 HDD. You can buy one with 500GB, 750GB or more, thats no problem :)

  • OVM 2.1.2 does not recognize SATA 150 or SATA 300 disks with Intel  ICH10R

OVM 2.1.2 does not recognize SATA 150 or SATA 300 disks.
This same machine recognizes these disks with Enterprise Linux 5.2 x86-64.
The motherboard uses the onboard SATA connectors:

    The SATA disks tested were:

I could install 2.1.2 with some ancient IDE disks.
Is there something I can tweak to get the SATA disks recognized?

Just a wild guess on my part. Look in your /etc/modprobe.conf on your working config. Then try copying that kernel module over to your OracleVM server if it is not already there. If the OracleVM server already has the module then check modprobe.conf on your OracleVM server to verify the module settings are in there.

It's the default sort order. You can choose chronological order( ascending or descending) or by Import batch or by filename. Contrary to older versions, those sort orders are available not only in thumbnail view, but also in Folders view and albums. In albums you can sort as you like 'custom order'. No difference in Mac or Win.
