Does Solaris 10 support cisco Virtual Port Channels over IP?

Does anyone know if Solaris 10 support cisco Virtual Port Channels open IP?

Hi user11114413,
The issue you are seeing actually has little to do with VIP, and more to do with there being multiple IP addresses for us to choose from on your box. For such multi-IP boxes, you'll want to tell us the IP to use, and in your case you want to tell as a VIP. This can be done either by editing your operational configuration file, and including an <address> element within the <unicast-listener> element, or via the tangosol.coherence.localhost system property. For example:
<unicast-listener>
    <well-known-addresses>
        <socket-address id="1">
            <address>1.2.3.260</address> <!--virtual ip -->
            <port>8088</port>
        </socket-address>
    </well-known-addresses>
    <address>1.2.3.260</address> <!--virtual ip -->
    <port>8088</port>
</unicast-listener>or
java ... -Dtangosol.coherence.localhost=1.2.3.260If you are using the same operational configuration on all nodes in your cluster then the system property approach is likely preferable, and would only be necessary on the two machines sharing the VIP.
As for using VIP or an extended WKA list, the choice is yours, either will work. If you do go the VIP route, it would obviously be a very bad idea to simultaneously use the same VIP and port at the same time from the two machines.
thanks,
Mark

  • Cisco Nexus 9300 Virtual Port Channel Support

    Hi,
    As I am new to Nexus 9300 and I was wondering if the switch may support virtual port channel (VPC)? I was wondering if there may be any feature matrix to compare it against the 9500/N7Ks/N5Ks
    Any suggestion is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Marvin,
    Appreciate for the information. I believe the customer is in the process of moving to ACI gradually however the setup I will be making will be classical ethernet setup which is similar to VSS setup whereby the N9300 would make use of VPC to connect to catalyst 3K/6K switch. I have illustrated it below for reference:
          Catalyst 6500 Non-VSS (Core)
          |----(VPC)---|
    N9300 ----- N9300   (Aggregation/Distribution)
          |----(VPC)---|
     Catalyst 3K switch (Access)
    Appreciate for clarrifiying the support for VPC for Nexus 9300 as I made a search on feature navigator for "Virtual Port Channel" which only listed the N7K platforms.
    Thanks.

  • Port Channel over L2 MPLS links

    Hello.
    I was hoping that someone could over some suggestions on best practice or recommendations for configuring port channel to bundle to layer 2 MPLS links that we have.
    We have racks in two geographically separated data centres, each rack has a stack of Cisco 3850 switches, and there are two 100Mbps layer 2 connections linking these stacks together.  The links are provided by our supplier and runs over their core network (I can get more info on their setup if need be).
    I had initially just configured a simple port channel bundling the two ports on "Switch A", and the same on "Switch B".  However I have since noticed that one of the ports was put into error disabled state, and I have my doubts that we ever had 200Mbps throughput over the portchannel.
    The logs showed:
    UDLD-4-UDLD_PORT_DISABLED: UDLD disabled interface Gix/x/x, aggressive mode failure detected
    %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: udld error detected on Gix/x/x, putting Gix/x/x in err-disable state
    How I understand is that one of ports recieved an unexpected (or incorrect) BPDU packet, and shut the port down as part of spanning tree process to stop a loop forming.
    For the time being I have removed the port channel config and re-opened all the ports, so I believe one of the ports is now in blocking state.
    Whilst redundancy for these links is great, ideally I would like to have the links bundled so I also get the benefit of higher throughput.
    Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

    Hi,
    Thank you for your reply and suggestions.  I have been reading up on layer 2 protocol tunnelling and I'm not sure if this will work for us.  According to these guidelines for the catalyst 3550 (http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3550/software/release/12-1_19_ea1/configuration/guide/3550scg/swtunnel.html#wp1006657) it states:
    •If you enable PAgP or LACP tunneling, we recommend that you also enable UDLD on the interface for faster link-failure detection.
    •Tunneling is not supported on trunk ports. If you enter the l2protocol-tunnel interface configuration command on a trunk port, the command is accepted, but Layer 2 tunneling does not take affect unless you change the port to a tunnel port or an access port.
    •EtherChannel port groups are compatible with tunnel ports when the 802.1Q configuration is consistent within an EtherChannel port group.
    (maybe its a different and is supported on 3850's)
    Also, I cant use layer 3 over this link as I am looking to extend VLANs over the link so devices and virtual machines in each of the datacentre are in the same subnet and broadcast domain.
    I will speak with the supplier to see what they are willing to do.
    Thanks again.

  • Agilent E364XA IVI driver does not support measurement of 2nd channel?

    Hi,
    just downloaded the IVI driver for Agilent programmabel power supplies E364xA. It's supposed to support also the E3646A, a dual power supply. In my case there are two of 'em, connected via GPIB. I've configured 'em in MAX and have set up logical names, driver sessions and hardware assets. The two driver sessions use the hpe364xa as software module, the hpe364xa_32.dll as module path and show a whole bunch of supported devices, amoung of is also mine. I've set up two virtual channel names each for both driver sessions (4 channels over all). I can set the output voltage of both channels properly, but cannot read the voltage back. Get always the voltage level for the 2nd channel of the device. Hav
    e tried measuring both or just one channel, it always returns the voltage of ch2, either two times a very narrow level or just one result.
    Any idea?
    BTW, this happens both in LabVIEW 7.1 and in TestStand 3.0
    Greetings from Germany!

    Hi,
    the problem is that function does not set active channel. This function measure value from your last configured channel. For example: If you set volatge on channel 2, the measured value should be from this channel, if you set volatge on channel 1 before measurement, measured value should be from channel 1. :-(
    I attached fixed source code and DLL. Please try it, and let me know if the problem is fixed. I don't have instrument so I cannot test it. My email is [email protected] . Thanks.
    you should copy these files into [IVI] directory. The default path is C:\Program Files\IVI

  • Xconnect 20Gb Port-channel over MPLS Possible?

    Can anybody confirm if you can establish an Xconnect between two 20Gb port-channels (2x 10Gig bundle).  The core is 40Gig and running MPLS.  We have many gigabit pseudowires running over it already.
    Our intention is to terminate 10Gig server traffic on 4900M's and then have a 20Gb Port channel trunk link into a 6500 (which is part of the MPLS cloud).   We would then issue the xconnect directly on the 20Gig port channel in order to traverse the MPLS Core.
    Has anyone configured this before?  Are there any caveats to watch out for?  What sort of performance hit (if any does) xconnect functionality have on 10Gig Traffic.

    Hi,
    Yes it's supported but test it first (as always ;-) )

  • UCS - san-port-channel over vpc

    Hi,
    I'm hoping someone can help out with this,
    I have a setup with 2 Nexus 5548's connected over a vpc peer link and a keepalive, These two nexus switch's have a standard VPC connection to an upstream 6500. this is working fine,
    Then there are multiple native FC connections from the 5548's to 6248's. I know there is the option to configure FC port-channel's on the UCS 2.0 but is it possible to put fc interfaces of the nexus 5548 into a san port-channel across a vpc between the the nexus 5548's.
    so for example, can i port-channel the following across a vpc or is a san port-channel restricted to ports on the same nexus switch only.
    Fabric A  fc1/31 & fc1/32    uplinked to  -> NX5K-1  Port fc1/31 & NX5K-2 Port fc1/32 (san port-channel 10 over a VPC)
    Fabric B  fc1/31 & fc1/32    uplinked to  -> NX5K-1  Port fc1/32 & NXFK-2 Port fc1/31 (san port-channel 11 over a VPC)
    Thanks,
    Ray.

    This is not possible. Vpc is layer 2 only ethernet port channel. San port channel cannot be built accross vpc

    Go take a peek in Google.
    Use keyword `gpt` for your search.
    First result: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUID_Partition_Table
    Perhaps leave that Wikipedia reference as a bookmark in your browser, so as to have a reference for changes that might appear.
    See section 6.1 of that Wikipedia entry:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUID_Partition_Table#Unix-class_operating_systems
    Additionally, using gpt + solaris for Google keywords, there are additional links to be found.
    Lastly, here is a forum discussion from September 2010:
    OVM server cannot install on GPT boot partition
    Granted, it involves GPT and Linux, but there are points in there to consider with regards to your choices for hardware.

  • Cisco MDS Port channel load balancing

    A customer recently asked an interesting question about exchange based load balancing on an FC port channel. The platform is UCS with an 8 and 16 port channel per fabric interconnect on two separate UCS domains. The application is Oracles data warehousing which has been known to saturate 4 x 8gb fc links. Since the balancing method is exchange based what constitutes the start and end of an exchange? We are trying to avoid a condition where and intense read write conversation locks to a single link in the port channel and not spread across 8/16 links. Where can I find more information about exchange based routing protocol or how should I go about managing extreme io in a converged infrastructure.

    The default loadbalance method on FI and MDS is src-dst-ox-id based. Note that loadbalancing is done by a device on *outgoing traffic*. FI and MDS do not have to negotiate anything here. Technically, one device can do src-dst-id based while the other can use src-dst-ox-id. However, in your case there is no reason for such a change.
    As I wrote before, If all of the links in the port-channel are touching the max capacity, you should recommend your customer to increase links in the bundle (max 16) or upgrade to 16G links. If few of the links are heavily utilized while other links in the same port-channel are under utilized, you may want to check the application or HBA for capability of breaking down the large reads/writes under smaller exchanges. If no traffic is going on few of the links at all, then I would suspect UCS to FI pinning as well.

  • Does EOP support custom TCP ports?

    I searched the sales and TechNet info but couldn't find anything definitive that says if Exchange Online Protection supports custom ports in a Hybrid model.  Does EOP require port 25, or can the outgoing and incoming connectors use custom ports?
    Also, the price is per user - but does that mean per AD user, or per alias? For example, if 100 users each have a primary SMTP address and 3 proxyAddresses, does that count as 100 licenses or 400?

    Does anyone know of a better forum for EOP questions?

  • Port channel configuration with VMware

    Hi everyone, I have dual 6120 interconnects, each of which have two uplink ports. I also have two Catalyst 4900M switches to uplink to. So I plan to configure both 802.1q and 802.3ad on each of the 6120 uplink pairs. My question relates to the physical cabling, bearing in mind ESX will be running on the blades.
    Would you cable both the uplink ports on interconnect 1 to switch 1? Or would you cross-connect them to both switch 1 and switch 2?
    As per this article I see ESX does not support splitting a port channel across two switches, but I am unsure how the presence of the 6120s affects this. Can anyone suggest the best way of doing the cabling based on the kit I have? Thanks.
    http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1001938&sliceId=1&docTypeID=DT_KB_1_1&dialogID=14912551&stateId=1%200%2014916516

    Hey Simon, let's address this is two parts because there are two layers: server-bound (ESX-6120) and north-bound (6120-Cat4900).
    At the ESX end, use the default srcPort in the vSwitch / port group with both 10GbE uplink ports (vmnic0 and vmnic1) set to active (not active/passive).  There are no loops in this configuration.  On the VNIC (in UCSM) you select trunk port and allow all the VLANs that your vSwitch port groups needs.  If you don't use a VLAN for the Service Console/ESXi Management, then make sure you set Native to the correct VLAN in the VNIC to allow untagged traffic down the right path.
    At the 6120 you can't explicitly configure a trunk for border ports, they are already set so and when you add VLANs they are added to every border port trunk configuration.  You, of course, need to make sure the Cat4900 ports at the other end of the cable have the same trunkport VLAN configuration.
    So in summary - set VLANs in vSwitch port groups, VNIC in UCSM and northbound switch.
    Now when it comes to port channels, you can only configure two or more border ports as a port channel if they are cabled to the same Cat4900.  If you had Nexus 5k/7k northbound then you could use vPC on them to allow "mesh" cabling (ie. one 6120 connects to both Nexus switches).  But as you aren't using Nexus you will end up with a configuration as Jeremy explained:
    ESX --> vSwitch0 --> srcPort load balancing --> 2 active uplinks --> many port groups
    6120-a --> Cat4900-a
    6120-b --> Cat4900-b
    However, I would still recommend using a couple of border ports in a port channel on each fabric to each Cat4900 because, if you pull out a cable/lose a port, then when that port is re-enabled the existing live traffic is redistributed whereas without the port channel only new traffic will be spread across both links.
    Cheers

  • WLC Port Channel Host Flapping

    Hello,
    I have setup LAG for one of our 5508 controllers and have connected 4 of the 8 ethernet ports to a 4507 switch. After configuring 2 port channels on the switch we are receiving a host flapping error between the port channels and it seems to be causing a serious slowdown on the switch. When I shutdown one of the port channels the error goes away and traffic returns to normal. I have the same configuration at other locations with the only difference being the switches used are 3750G-12S and I do not see the host flapping error. It appears to only be a problem with modular switches.
    One other thing of note: I read a Cisco white paper on LAG and it suggested creating the port channels over 2 different modules. For example, put ports G4/24 and G5/24 in port channel 1 and G4/25 and G5/25 in port channel 2. I tried this but I still got the host flapping error.
    I searched the forum and found a few threads on the subject but no resolution. Any insight on a fix will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mark

    Mark,
         Just to double check.  You configured two port channels on the switch, and connected these to the WLC?
    If that is the case, that is currently not a supported config.  You can split the ports across the modules, but you can't link two different etherchannels to the WLC.
