Does turning off debugging help a compiled .exe file run faster?

I'm trying to get my application to run faster.  I saw on this website that turning off the debugger makes the application run faster but it's unclear if that applies to the development platform or a compiled executable.

You are probably referring to this KB article: General Performance Improvements. When you create a stand-alone application you can also enable debugging. This will save the block diagrams so you can debug the application while it's running. Normally when you build an app the block diagrams is stripped.
The amount of impact that turning off debugging will have to your VI/app performance is hard to say. To best way to get a VI/app to run faster is to improve the code in the first place. This means avoiding very large memory arrays, not initializing and closing references every time you iterate in a loop, minimizing file I/O, etc. If you provide some idea of what your code does, and can perhaps post your code, specific suggestions can be provided.

  • "List Folder" function does not work any more on compiled .exe files in LabVIEW 8.2

I used "List Folder" function in a splash screen VI to read the number of the subVIs within the .exe file. The number was used to create a progress bar. It worked with LabVIEW 8.00 but with 8.20 I get the error code 13 that means "LabVIEW:  File is not a resource file."
I wonder is it a bug or a feature? Up to now I could not find any info about changing the .exe file format.
If it is a feature, is there a way to get the list or any other information to make a progress bar 0...100%?
    With best regards,

In LV 8.2, NI changed the exe format so that it no longer functions as an LLB. As far as I know, this is a feature and will not be changed back. I think it was changed to support some sort of security requirements in Windows Vista, but I don't remember where I got that notion from.
As a workaround, you can build the exe as a small exe with an LLB or maybe save the list of VIs elsewhere (for example, have all of them as subVIs of the splash screen).

  • Can't Turn off debugging in SharePoint 2013 ULS!

I have started a thread in another user forum here: http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/101773/how-to-determine-if-sharepoint-is-in-debug-mode
Essentially I have followed the steps outlined here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee231550.aspx to turn off debug output in the ULS.  I have checked each web.config
in each webapp of the farm, on each server in the farm, to ensure that callstack=false, customErrors mode=On and that compilation debug=false.  I have performed IISReset and server restarts.
I see many messages in ULS that either have DEBUG within the message or "Write Debug Scope Start event..." and "Write Debug Scope End event..."
Do I need to perform some special 'redeployment' from within VS12?  I would think an IISReset would do the trick after changing the web.config  ?

  • Does turning off DHCP remove option to Share Hardisk over WAN?

I'm a recent Apple convert. I have a new Macbook and have downloaded all recent updates.
I just integrated the Airport Extreme Base Station into my current home network. I have DHCP turned OFF in the AP because I am running a netgear router in my basement that is already connected to my Cable Modem. It needs to stay in the loop because I am using it to feed my XBox360, due to the issues related the Base station/360 interaction.
Here is my question... Does having DHCP turned off in the AP, remove the checkbox option in the "Disks" section of Airport Utility toolbar to "Share disks over Ethernet WAN port"? Its MISSING completely. I've seen many instructions that reference that phrase, but the only checkbox I have on that screen is one for using Bonjour. I want to connect a usb drive so I can have a central storage so my wife and I can share itunes/photos/documents. So could it be that option disappeared due to turning off DHCP or is there some other issue?

If you want to share your disks over WAN then you need to do the following:
    1. Assign a manual IP address for your AirPort. You can do this by running AirPort Utility and under Internet you need to change Configure IPv4 from Using DHCP to Manually.
    2. You need to port forward TCP port 548 on your main router to the IP address you assigned your AirPort. After doing this you will be able to access your AirPort disks by going to Finder, Connect to Server, and entering afp://<yourgatewayipaddress> You can find your gateway IP address by going to www.whatismyipaddress.com while on your home network.

My touchscreen on my 4s isn't working.  I can't "slide to unlock" and when I try to turn my phone off I can't "slide to turn off".  HELP!!

I am making the assumption - based on the "tags" in your description - that you do not have sounds in apps, games and things like that - but you can hear sound when you use the music app. ......
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

Does turning off energy saver include never letting the display to sleep? A warning alerts me that its life might shorten... Thanks!
(I'm doing this for the recalibrating of the battery etc...)

It would shorten it's life if you leave it on year 'round. For the amount of time to calibrate the battery won't hurt it.

Replaced where?  If it was done by anyone other than Apple the warranty has been voided.
Regardless, the screen replacement was obviously not successful.  Take the device back to whomever replaced the screen and address the issue with them.

  • Does turning off 3G really help call reception/signal strength ?

After experiencing more of the S.O.S. with the 2.1 upgrade I turned 3G off today.
It's really ******* me off that I am paying another $15 - $20 a month for something that seems useless and problematic (And now just to turn it off).
Does this really help with the issue pertaining to dropped calls ?

    Hi guys
Hope you don't mind me dropping in, but I work in the telco industry, albeit in Australia. The turning off of 3G for better reception isn't an iPhone fault, it's a network thing.
Any phone with 3G capability is programmed to try and access the 3G side of the network first. It will continue to scan the network all day and night, anytime your phone is on to maintain signal. If it's unable to maintain service coverage with 3G, it then drops down to 2.5G, then 2G, then EDGE (if available in your area). If you turn 3G access off, it skips that step. The older networks are more reliable, but slower. They are also (now) much less crowded with users so there is less congestion and you get (on occasions) better signal.
The recent 2.1 upgrade would have modified the supply of power from the chipsets to the antenna's which is why many people are experiencing better signal strength and less dropouts, but it will always come back to the 3G coverage in your area.
I know this doesn't really improve things for you, but gives you some background to how the whole circus works.
    Cheers
    Russ

  • Turn off Debugging within a script

    Hi everyone,
I have a script which does a big batch daily job - however if
debugging is active on the server it manages to bring the server
down as it just takes too long. However as there is a big team of
developers here from time to time people need debugging on I have
found that the script does not complete because there is too much
    over head with debugging.
I have tried turning off the debugging output but this doesnt
work. It still seems to generate the debugging over head but does
    not display it.
I am sure this is possible but havent found a result yet.
    Any help is appreciate
    Thanks

The problem is that this job will be run from a paticular
server and Debugging is required for other jobs on the same server
    so this is not possible

  • Does turning off modules speed up Lightroom 4?

    Hi All,
It seems that in Lightroom 4 you have the ability to turn off individual modules by right clicking on them and unchecking whichever ones you don't use.  I'm wondering if when modules are unchecked, does that increase the speed or performance of the system?
I recently upgraded to LR4 from 3 and definitely experienced a major slow down.  That being said, when I uncheck everything except the development module, the sluggishness completely disappears.  Is turning individual modules off actually helping performance? Can anyone else confirm this?  I've posted on a few other forums and haven't had a great response.  Thanks!

Actually, in another thread this topic came up and I'll post my results below...
The posts above are correct, simply "right clicking to turn off the modules from the title bar does not disable them.
I have had significant performance gains by actually removing the modules altogether from the Lightroom program folder.
    Your mileage will vary.
My original posts come from this thread : http://gsfn.us/t/2qqr8
I've made slight edits for context.
When I removed the modules, I started from scratch.
I simply uninstalled LR4.3, defragged, reinstalled, updated, moved the modules i dont use, rebooted.
I then used this link for the How To : http://www.slrlounge.com/boost-lightroom-4-performance-by-hacking-the-lightroom-modules-li ghtroom-4-workflow-system-dvd
    It's insanely easy.
I followed the standard Adobe recommendations for lightroom that you can search for in "help".
I started Lightroom with one of my (large) existing lcat files (11k images) and regenerated absolutely everything at 1:1.
Ate dinner, played the Xbox, ignored the phone... had family time for a while.
    right now,
it opens bullet fast into library.
it's 10 seconds to move from library to develop. film strip scrolls bullet fast- but at super low Rez and takes 3 seconds to load the "highrez thumbs" - once I stop moving the strip (12 thumbs wide)
When an image is clicked they open to "fit" within 3 seconds. Choose 1:1 and its 5 seconds.
switch to library again and it's 1-2 seconds and a redraw of the image - filmstrip unchanged.
choose an image at 1:1 and its a 3 second wait
    "Fit" is immediate. awesome
these times flex a second either way depending on image content.
scroll film strip and it behaves the same as above - but not jerky like it used to be (up till today's efforts).
LR4 is way faster than LR3 like this.
    ==============
--- I then read another person's post relating to my earlier posts and decided to do a test :
    ==============
    put modules back.
    20 seconds to start.
I don't change the image shown.
    change to develop 30 seconds
5 seconds to "refresh" same image same setting of "fit"
    change to 1:1 6 seconds
    lower to fit 2 seconds
    back to 1:1 2 seconds
    film strip jerky on develop
    thumbnail refresh same speed
change to library - 3 seconds
    I'm still in 1:1
film strip "less jerky" - only a slight lag
3 seconds to load a new image as 1:1
1 second to change to "fit"
    1 second back to 1:1
with the one main image chosen in library, mouse wheel scroll is pretty darned quick, low Rez "fit" with 1 second refresh when you finish moving
10 seconds to go back to develop in "fit"
5-6 seconds for subsequent photo choices in fit
    1:1 is ten seconds
scrolling the 1:1 is so jerky you have to use the mouse "hand"
    exit
move - book, layout, print, slideshow, web
delete win prefetch references for a clean start, reboot.
wait for windows to realize its a computer and settle down.
    start Lightroom, same lcat.
it remembers I was in develop and reopened in 5 seconds with a "fit" image
cool actually - program loads and displays image all in 5 seconds, in develop.
    change to 1:1 2 seconds
can actually scroll 1:1 with mouse only small lag
film strip back to new normal (fast and smooth)
    change to library immediate
    back to develop 1 second
new image 2 seconds on fit
    1 second to 1:1
    new image 1:1 2 seconds
    so yeah
    module disable worked for me
    my pickle?
I have to test each one at a time to point adobe as to which is the issue...
    *sigh*

  • Does turning off email delivery also turn off text delivery?

I just got an 8330 when my work switched to Sprint. I am on vacation for the next two weeks and would like to turn off my work email delivery. It comes through a Microsoft Exchange server. I also have two AOL personal accounts on the phone. If I select "No" for "send email to handheld," will that stop delivery of all my email accounts or will AOL messages still be received? I have separate icons for each of those accounts.
In addition, I do not want to stop delivery of text messages. I have them separate from email right now. Will doing the above stop delivery of texts?
I looked to see if this had been answered before, but did not find it. Sorry if I missed it. Thanks for any help you can offer.

HI and Welcome to the Forums!
For your work emails, I suggest you talk to your BES admins about what to do...they are in control of that component.
For the personal emails, the setting to NO will accomplish what you desire...it does exactly as it states (Send Email To HH = NO). You have to set that for each account.
None of this affects Text Messaging...those are completely separate.
