Dont save iChats in iMessage Beta on Mac

How can I set the new iMessage Beta on my Mac to NOT save the chats in iChat folder?

Simple enough to remedy. Just choose "Open Selected Folder". Finder will open the location all chats are stored in. You can then select any or all folders, then CMD + Delete them. Note, you should be careful when deleting any item if you are unsure, but i've deleted all dated folders in iChat transcripts location without any ill effect.

  • Syncing issue - formerly used iMessage Beta on Mac

    Hello,
I have a MBP, a iPhone 4 and previously had the iMessage Beta app on my Mac prior to the upgrade to Mountain Lion... Nothing syncs.  I'm very disappointed with Apple on this; for me, the main downfall of Macs is that when things don't work it's nigh on imposible to resolve it by tinkering on your own and always have to resort to forums, the store.
Anyway, I was hoping someone could help:
Messages on my iPhone won't sync with my Mac however I've seen a message sent from my Mac has appeared on my phone... I'm using my Apple ID as the account in Messages settings on my phone, no other email accounts are linked to it.  My number is set as my caller ID in messages settings and I would like to keep it like that to avoid my friends and work colleagues suddenly receving messages from an email account as opposed to my phone number.
On my Mac, I only have an iMessage account using my Apple ID (guessing configured from before the upgrade?).  iMessage Beta from before my upgrade never worked for me. The same Apple ID is used on my phone, and for iCloud.
Weirdly, Reminders has synced fine, but Notes hasn't synced.
If anyone can help, it'd be hugely appreciated - the Cloud syncing was the only reason I paid for the upgrade, and at the moment it's about as useful as a chocolate fireguard!
    Cheers,
    Mark.

    Okay - quick update:
Changing my Caller ID to my email makes it work for Messages and Notes... This is no good IMHO and is a very poor user experience as a conversation switching from my phone to my mac via Messages will be seen as two threads from the perspective of the recipient.
Both Messages and Notes do not sync old content, only new... Again, a very poor user experience as the same content is already backed up onto the Cloud.
For me, I'll be going back to using trusty old Skype, Google Calendars, Dropbox etc.  I don't know how this update has been heralded as something awesome: We already had most this cloud type functionality with 3rd parties who offer cleaner, more simplistic, open-for-all services.
I know it's tabboo to say, but I've had this mac for a year now, am a technical person by trade, but think that once the allure of how cool Macs are wears off, they're actually quite ****... Unless someone can prove me wrong and show me how to fix these two issues?!
    Cheers,
    Mark.

  • IChat video quality better with .Mac subscriber than with AIM?

The quality of my video chats with one brother who also has a .Mac account is noticeably better than my chats with another brother, who uses iChat with an AIM account. I'm in the US, they are both in UK. All of us have almost identical iMacs. The one with the AIM account supposedly has a faster Internet connection. My question: is the video quality of iChat better if both users have .Mac accounts than if one has an AIM account?

The Screen names make no difference.
It is about a combination of Proccessor, Video card in iChat 4, internet Connection and settings and the amount of Bandwidth you get out of that connection.
As Defcom (UK) has said start with those basic Settings.
In iChat 3 and 2 the Quicktime setting when on Automatic is read as a 0 (zero) and this effectively Caps iChat.
In iChat 4 the Automatic setting is seen as 384k which is the MINIMUM for a 4 way chat.
As far as an Internet Connection goes this should be at Least 100k in both Up and Downloads.
Due to some data stream management to cut down on Peer-to-Peer file Sharing it pays to limit iChat in the Video Section Bandwidth Limit section to slip under the Radar as it were. There are two main ISP doing this Comcast and Road Runner in the States.
Verizon offer a FioS fibre service that is not that stable in speeds and jumps all over the place which is then too fast for iChat to keep up and that should use the cap in iChat Preferences as well.

  • Suggestion about the iMessage beta on Mac

I thought if user working on one device, the messages shouldn't sync at the same time on all the devices. That notification signal is really annoying.
What if all the messages just sync when user activate other device, that's be better.

  • IChat is not working after uninstalling iMessage beta

    Hey all.
When the iMessage beta was available I installed it.  After several uses I decided I didn't like it and re-installed iChat.
Now the iChat does not work at all.
My buddies do not stay in the list and are always listed as Offline eventhough I know they are available for chats.
I took my Macbook pro to the Genius Bar where we re-installed everything but no luck.
I can now only chat from my ipod touch but I'd like to use my macbook for chats too.
How can this problem be fixed?
    Thanks for your input.

    Hi,
One is looking in the wrong place.
There are three folders called "Library"
The one in Hard Drive > Library
The one in Hard Drive > System > Library
And the Hidden one if you are using Lion in Hard Driver > Users > (Your account/Little House iCon) > Library.
This Hidden one can be seen if you use the Finder > Go Menu and then Hold the ALT key to see the Library get added to the list.
    Then you can open Preferences.
iChat can send Messages (IMs or Instant Messages) to valid AIM Names or to Jabber IDs
It cannot send iMessages like Messages Beta can or the iPod Touch can with the iOS 5 messages app.
The OS can be reinstalled several ways.
One is to use the Lion restore option which mean starting the computer holding down the CMD and R at Start up then choosing the "Recovery" Drive.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
There is a USB Memory stick drive that can be purchased and I would not be surprised if the Stores made use of this.
I would also think that Apple may provide the Stores with DVDs that can install the OS.
I was hoping that you either saw the process or the Chap told you which method was being used.

  • How to change avatar in iMessage beta?

Anyone know how to change the avatar in iMessage beta that just came out.  Not sure how I eneded up with my wife's avatar but I am now not able to change it.  I have tried both of my @me accounts and nada!  This is not on any iOS device but strictly on the new iMessage beta for the Mac.  My personal info in contacts is correct and so is my wife's.  Although we share one of the @me accounts for iCloud, it's only to sync up some stuff.  Her profile in contacts does not include this @me address.  Using iMessage on any iOS device shows the correct avatar.

    Hi,
At the top of any Buddy List (I run mine separately) you have your own Buddy Pic
If you click this you can call up old ones (max 16), the default for the type of Account (one of the 16 and normally lower right) or access the Change/Edit options.
My Address Book iCloud list shows the My Card as my details and also shows the same pic (they can be different)
Another place to look/change is System Preferences > Accounts > Your account.
iChat can uses  a different pic to the other two.
The Address Book will tend to "see" the Account (System Preferences) one when you set up the Mac and those two are likely to be the same (Although you can make them different)
These ideas may show you where the Buddy pic is coming from and where it can be changed
I will admit to having difficulty editing Address Book Entries on the Mac itself

  • IMessage beta problem, how do I uninstall it?

I installed iMessage beta (free) on my MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.7.3 and began messaging a friend, "Sue".  My daughter received those messages I sent to Sue as though she wrote them herself and I began receiving messages my daughter sent to Sue. Sue is also receiving all messages sent to her from me and my daughter but they all appear to be sent from my phone number, not mine from me and my daughter's from her phone. I have an iPhone 4 and my daughter has an iPhone 4S, and our phone numbers and email addresses are different. We have different iCloud accounts; however, we legitimately  "share" iTunes through my iTunes account. I think that's where the cross over comes from. I am so confussed about how to resolve it, so I am trying to remove the iMessage beta app from my laptop. I can't get rid of it! I go to applications and trash it, but it is still installed. How do I uninstall it?

    HI,
There are now two places to look.
One is the Phone > Settings > Messages and > Receive At > Caller ID
The other is a stop off in Received At you can put in your Apple ID in the top setting (it is better that this is your iCloud ID that is separate rather then the "joint" iTunes one ).
In the Caller ID you may need to specify the Number over the email (iCloud ID).
This setting on the Phone makes it send from the Number rather than the ID.
Some consideration may need to be given to whethter you send a lot of Messages using a Wifi Connection (Apple ID).
    Obviously repeat for daughter's phone.
    Thanks for the points

  • Not receiving iMessage on my Mac

Why am I not reeiving iMessages on my Mac or display any of my chat history?

    An alternative.
Is anyone sending iMessages to your on the ID you use on your Mac ?
The Messages app can do the old style iChat IMs as well as iMessages.
The best start for those is to use the same Apple ID on the iPhone, iPad, Touch  as well as Messages on your Mac.
Some people say they sync better if the iPhone is Turned Off then rebooted to cut the link to the iMessage Server then re-establish it on the restart.
Others say it seems to do better if the iPhone has all messages cleared before trying to sync.
It is reported that full on iPhone Number syncing will come with iOS 6 as has already been said

  • How do i set up imessage on my mac so that i can sync them on my iphone and ipad

how do i set up imessage on my mac so that i can sync them on my iphone and ipad?

Messages requires Mountain Lion (10.8), or higher. The beta version for Lion expired almost a year ago.
    Lion still uses iChat.

  • AIM login with iMessage beta sometimes works with ssh, sometimes only without

I frequently log in and out of iChat and find that (with the iMessage beta) it often cannot login.  If I change the server setting (to the AIM server) alternating from ssh to unchecked ssh, it always succeeds.  Otherwise, it just will not connect to the AIM server.  Any ideas?

    HI,
I presume you mean the SSL option.
The AIM servers do in fact have both SSL and NON SSL server to login.
Many more people have version of AIM that don't have SSL so there are more servers to allow connections that way.
This means if the SSL server have an issue then you tend to spot it more often.
The second thing is the  SSL Option always needs a Manual Reset to reconnect  (it does not do it automatically)
Sometimes just Deselecting "Use this Account" to "log Off" and  then Logging back in again is enough to sort this.
Other times it seems you do have to also Deselect SSL and then re-log in.
There is no workaround that shortens this or produces a set result each time.  You just have to work through it (Or leave it set NOT to do SSL).

  • Installed iMessage beta, cant log on, iCloud now won't log on either.

The subject tells the tale. iCloud was working fine on my MacPro running 10.7.3. Yesterday I installed iMessage beta. Once I rebooted I tried iMessage but could not log in. I went to System Preferences to check the settings for iCloud and saw I was logged out. Trying to log in resulted in the dreaded "This Apple ID is valid but is not an iCloud account.".
I removed iMessage beta, but nothing changed. I checked the forums and deleted the networkconfiguration.plist file and rebooted. No change.
    Sigh.
Any ideas on how to get iCloud and hopefully iMessage working?

    Hi
    There are two issues here.
    1) Messages beta after the Install and restart will ask for an Apple ID.
It does not have to be an iCloud one.
    2) On the iCloud front can you log in on the web site rather than via the Mac itself in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars ?
    Notes.
On both the iOS 5 devices and the Mac the relevant apps are called "Messages"
They Send iMessages (to iPhones, iPads, certain Touches and Messages Beta using either the Phone Number or Apple ID).
Messages beta  on the Mac can also do everything that iChat can do (at iChat 6)

  • Failling activating iMessage BETA

    Hello,
I just installed iMessage beta, tried to activate it with my Apple ID(same I used to connect to this Forum).
    But it doesn't work.
First it's telling me that he cannot fint the Keychain login an ask me to reset keychain to default, I tried to do it.  but it still not working.
After that, it's kind of trying to log-in without ending it, just trying to do something.
Any idea to solve that ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Lets try a few things first.
Open the Applications/Utilities folder and launch KeychainAccess.
At the top left it should be set to the Login item (Depending on what you have installed there may be others)
Lower Left should be set to Passwords.
On the right hand side now look for those IDs that are used in iChat or Messages  (Buddy List account Names are also used in Messages) and look for the Apple ID being used in Messages.
It maybe marked as a temporary item
    Uploaded with Skitch!
    Open the Access tab/Button.
Does this List Messages and IMAgent ?  (It may list others if used with iCloud - or it maybe has the top radio button selected to Allow All)
If everything appears OK here then return to the Attributes tab/button
    Select the Show Password box
(Enter your Login Password and hit the Allow Once button in the Dialogue box)
Does the password that shows up match what you think it should be ?
If you use the Manage your Account option to log in Here
    Can you Login  ?
Does it list your Apple ID ?
    And an Alternative email ?
The reason I ask is I linked my Apple ID to Login to Apple Support Communities to an iCloud Name.
That caused Apple Support Communities to revert my email used for Alerts from here to be be the Apple ID email (it came from a dial-up Account and I was trying to drop the email use).
What I cannot do now is Change the Apple ID to the iCloud ID   and I can't list a different email here to get alerts about new posts.
Part of this seems to be the verification of any secondary emails.
I had to find lots of my test/Trial @mac.com names and remove some secondary emails that were out of date/unused/inaccessible.
Some accounts were more difficult to access as I had never verified any of the emails used.
    The Point
Have you verified your details for this Apple ID you are using ?

  • IMessage Beta - conversations

I like a to have a tidy text iMessage page on all my mobile devices. So once I'm done texting with someone I delete the conversation.
I downloaded the Beta version of iMessage for the Mac and I find that on the Beta version the conversations keep showing up even after I've deleted the message with that person and started a new one. Is there a way to delete the ongoing text conversation? Thanks.
    iMessage Beta - iMac - Lion 10.7.3

    HI,
Actually there is not. (well not that easy anyways)
Message beta should be saving All Chats in the iChats folder.
By default this is in your Home Folder/Documents.
Check the iChats Folder has the chats that you want to delete (It is also no good deleting them here as these are not the bits that are called back)
Once you know they are saved then  you need to do the Following.
In the Finder > Go Menu hold the ALT key down to seethe Library item
    Select this
    Open the Messages folder
The Sub folder called Attacthments is the chats that had Pic or Files in them.
The three Chat.db and Chat.db-xxx iterms are the files involved in bringing back those Chats.
IF you use Quick Look to open them you may be prompted that TextEdit can open them.  (You may want to do this as a further check)
The Chat.db one can then be either edited or deleted (it will get recreated).
