Double click now required to use survey response buttons - why?

If you click on a response button in a Benchpoint survey, the answer defaults to the first choice on the response list. A Double click is now required to hit the right choice.
This is confusing respondents who have been used to a single click for years.
What re-coding information can you give us?

This is related to the new HTML5 parser in Firefox 4. It is a bit stricter than the parser in Firefox 3.6. You can confirm the difference by toggling the parser off.
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the filter box, type or paste '''html5''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click '''html5.parser.enable''' to toggle it to false (it will turn bold).
Then reload the problem survey page and test again.
I think the problem is that there is a label tag around the entire table containing the radio buttons. If you choose View Source, press Ctrl+f, and search for '''<label><table''' you will see what I mean.
To test the effect of removing those label tags, you can copy this bookmarklet and paste it to the address bar on a survey page and press Enter to run it.

Rating now different in Lr6 Survey Mode. Why is this happening?

After updating to LrCC / Lr6 I'm unable to rate images like I could before.
In Lr5 my cull method was to pull ~10 images together in survey mode (N) and give each image either 1 star for 'reject' or 2 stars for 'keep'. With capslock on every time I give an image a rating it automatically advances to the next image. It was a FAST system for me. Now in Lr6 I give one image a rating and ALL the images in that group get the same rating. NOT useful. Any ideas on why that's happening now?

Stealth can cause problems. These alerts may be normal, and would otherwise be no problem, except that you're running stealth. You will block/log many things that most networks just need to do.

In iPhoto the double click to enlarge a photo is now a ! in a triangle and I am Unable to print from iPhoto. This has just happened out of the blue.

In iPhoto I have lost the double click that opensup photos, the double click now appears as a ! in a triangle. At the same time I have lost the print facility in iPhoto. This happened out of the blue and I have been unable to reconcile either problem. Can anyone help please.

The ! means that iPhoto has lost connection to the origianl file.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

You can (I do all the time). The oreview window can be resized by dragging the message list window border - you might accidentally have closed it up

Double Clicking Photo No Longer Opens in Full Screen

Hi all:
We have our preferences in iPhoto set so that double clicking a particular thumbnail opens the photo in Full Screen mode for editing.
Just this morning, for no apparent reason, we noticed that the photos when double clicked now open with gray (or black, I'll have to look again when I'm back home) space on the sides -- in a sort of "letterbox" effect. The pix still fill the screen from top to bottom like they used to, but they no longer stretch completely to the sides.
Any idea what has happened? We're thinking it's something easy, perhaps a stray click that unintentionally put us in a different iPhoto mode without us knowing it. (We did recheck our preference setting and "open in full screen" remains selected.)

Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist from your User/Library/Preferences folder. Launch iPhoto and reset your preferences.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. YET another double-clicking a jar question!

Hi all.
Sorry about this but I've been searching this forum for the last couple of hours and I still can't figure out why I can't double-click my jar file.
I've 'jarred' my application into a file named parserTTe.jar.
This jar includes a package named parser, wich includes the main class Parser, and several other subpackages.
In the manifest file (created by ant 1.5), there is an entry as follows:
Main-Class: parser.Parser
followed by a couple of blank lines.
The main method of Parser class demands as an argument the path to the file to parse.
Now, if I run the command line java -jar parserTTe.jar pathtosomefile, everything works smoothly.
As the parser does its job, I can watch its verbose flowing in the command line window.
If I double-click the jar file, though, nothing happens and I would expect that a java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBounsException would be thrown, as it does when I simply run java parser.Parser.
If instead of double-clicking the jar, I run the command line parserTTe.jar pathtosomefile or just parserTTe.jar, still nothing happens, the command line just refreshes.
My WNT is set to recognize jar files as Executable Jar Files and the open action is set as follows:
C:\...\javaw.exe" -jar "%1".
I've tried changing this to java.exe instead of javaw.exe but then I get a java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBounsException, either if I specify the path to the file to parse or not.
Currently I'm bypassing this problem using a parserTTe.bat file, wich works, of course, but I'm annoyed for not understanding what's wrong: why can't I run the jar file directly?

getting the array index exception, because your class
is being called with no parameters. You need to
redesign your class so that it prompts the user for
the file name; and since it's being run via javaw.exe,
it will have to use a GUI to prompt. A JFileChooser
would be a good choice.Please look closer to my description: I said I'd be expecting that exception to be thrown because of what you say but the problem is that it doesn't.
In fact, nothing happens when I double click it, or when I run it directly from the command line, passing along the needed argument or not.
Let us forget about the double-clicking that I won't use anyway.
What puzzles me is that I should be able to run that jar as if it was a bat file. I do it all the time with other apps I've built, although none of them requires a starting argument...
Like I explained, I thought it could be something related with the javaw.exe so I set WNT to open jar files with java.exe and not javaw.exe.
The double-clicking resulted in a DOS Prompt window that opened and closed before I could see what happened. So I thought: it's ok. It threw an exception because no argument was passed.
Then I tried to run the jar from the command line passing the argument but the exception was thrown again, though, wich I didn't understand why.
Basically, that's it.

Why can't I sleep my Ipod by double clicking the home button?

My sleep/wake button doesn;t work anymore, and I want to be able to sleep my Ipod by double clicking the home button. That would be much more useful than the 3 stupid choices I have now: "Home, Search, and iPod."
The home button already takes you home. So choice 1 is stupid. To search all you have to do is press home and swipe to the right; so choice 2 is also stupid. Choice 3 is ******** because I can just click "music."
Why can't double clicking home do something useful? Like making up for a poorly designed, chinese-made button that only lasts until just after your warrenty expires?

My button has lasted for three years. I know no one personally who has a broken powerbutton.
Perhaps it is simply that your ipod has an issue. Maybe you are blowing this out of all proportion.

On the Comcast Smartzone website, there is a list of received emails. On a computer with a mouse, an email is opened by double clicking on it with the left mouse button. How can this be accomplished with the iPad touch interface?

You can't compare "normal Windows" software to iPad apps in the first place if that's what you mean. Two totally different things - computer software and iPad apps. And you are trying to implement a task that's meant to be performed on a computer within a web browser when you are using SmartZone. You can do it to a degree but with limitations.
If you want to open the email in SmartZone, just lightly touch the message in the list. No double click is required. The emails will open and you can read them on the iPad. I do that sometimes but like I said, it is so slow to respond on the iPad. SmartZone was designed for use sometime in 2007 (?) long before the iPad was around.
And, I also agree that the lite version is so much better for the iPad. You can change to the lite version by going to your preferences, choose general and select SmartZone Lite.

Splash screen works from browser, not when double-clicked on desktop

While I've shown the problem using ButtonDemo, I am having the same issue with my own application. I'd like to have an icon on the desktop the user can click. I do have it working, but using a workaround I consider fragile and perhaps inappropriate.
I am using the 1.6.0_18-b07 version of the JRE on Vista SP2.

I couldn't get this to work. For the benefit of anyone needing something similar, here's what I did to work around it.
At install time, my app already unpacked some config files into a known place under the user's home directory. So I now unpack a splash screen there, as well.
The desktop shortcut tells javaws to skip it's splash screen with -Xnosplash, and then tells the JVM to use a local one (with the -J"splash:" argument). Something like this worked well enough:
C:\Windows\System32\javaws.exe -J"-splash:C:\Users\whoever\appname\splash.jpg" -Xnosplash "C:\Users\whoever\appname\app.jnlp"

Double clicking a nested folder is driving me crazy

I have a folder mac hd/folder/folder and I open it to work with all the Filemaker files in that folder. There are 40 and I have to open them all by hand. Every time I open one, I guess it thinks it is an application it springs shut, closing all the folders, it also closes the hard drive and I have to start all over. How can I set it so the folder I choose stays open. The finder menu window I can't get used to. I just put the folder on my desktop for now. For now I put the folder on my desktop and it doesn't do that but I would like to know why the nested folder doesn't stay open.
I just started opening all the files in the folder on my desktop and the one folder now is also springing shut after I open each one. I have to double click the folder and then double click the file and repeat 40 times. Why can't it stay open?
