Splash screen works from browser, not when double-clicked on desktop

I am having trouble making a splash screen appear and have a specific question about it.
The code is from the tutorial at:

I have changed the codebase attribute of the jnlp element so it refers to my own server:

</jnlp> This JNLP, the mysplash.jpg, and the ButtonDemo.jar are deployed to the web server, under a "buttondemo" subdirectory of the web server's DocumentRoot.
If I access the JNLP from a browser (https://justanexample.com/buttondemo/ButtonDemo.jnlp), things work as expected:
The first time "Java Loading" appears.
The mysplash.jpg is cached and can be seen in the Resource list with "javaws -viewer."
During the second and subsequent launches, the custom splash screen appears as expected.
However, if I have the JNLP file on my desktop, and I open it from there with a double-click, I never see the splash screen.
My question: Why is this? Shouldn't I see the splash screen after the first launch, even if I launched by double-clicking the JNLP file on my desktop?
Why I care:
While I've shown the problem using ButtonDemo, I am having the same issue with my own application. I'd like to have an icon on the desktop the user can click. I do have it working, but using a workaround I consider fragile and perhaps inappropriate.
I am using the 1.6.0_18-b07 version of the JRE on Vista SP2.

I couldn't get this to work. For the benefit of anyone needing something similar, here's what I did to work around it.
At install time, my app already unpacked some config files into a known place under the user's home directory. So I now unpack a splash screen there, as well.
The desktop shortcut tells javaws to skip it's splash screen with -Xnosplash, and then tells the JVM to use a local one (with the -J"splash:" argument). Something like this worked well enough:
C:\Windows\System32\javaws.exe -J"-splash:C:\Users\whoever\appname\splash.jpg" -Xnosplash "C:\Users\whoever\appname\app.jnlp"

Hello everyone,
My executable jar file will run fine when called from the Dos prompt like so: java -jar myJarFile.jar
But not when I double click it. I've associated *.jar files with java.exe as suggested here on the forums but all that happens when I double click the jar file is that I get an instance of the Dos prompt that flashes up on the screen and closes immediately. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, thank you.

Yes Carmello, I had associated jar files via folder options in windows explorer with java.exe, now when I have the jars associated with javaw.exe as in the following:
ACTION:
javaw.exe -jar "%1"
APPLICATION USED TO PERFORM ACTION:
javaw.exe "%1"
I get an error dialog with the title string "Java Virtual Machine Launcher" and the error message itself is "Could not find the main class. Program will exit." when I double click on the jar file. As I said in my first post the application [GUI based with around ten different forms] runs fine when called from the Dos prompt. Any idea as to what is wrong? Thanks for replying by the way.

Rh10 - HTML Help - linking to pdf shows when generate CHM and 'view results' but not when double-click on CHM in project folder or in product help

I have several PDFs in Baggage Files that are linked to topics in the Table of Contents. When I generate the CHM file and 'View Results' I am able to pull up/access the PDFs with no problem. When I go into the project folder and just double-click on the CHM file, I cannot pull up/access any of the PDFs nor can I access them in the product help. Any ideas? Is a setting "off" somewhere in my project?
I am using RoboHelp 10.

Well, first off, even though it would be WebHelp, it would be inside a CHM container. So for all intents and purposes it would be a CHM file. But having said that, I'm not sure there is a way to merge these hybrid types of CHM files.
If your statement about Adobe fixing the issue is meaning that they can either remove the Print icon from the CHM Viewer, I wouldn't hold my breath because as I said, that's in Microsoft's lap and they haven't updated the CHM viewer in a long while. Doubtful they ever will.
The only hope would then be for Adobe to update the code used for the Mini TOC. The only way that will happen is if enough folks submit this as a bug via the following link:

Until that would happen, your likely best bet is to simply avoid using the Mini-TOC feature or just insert a warning that if the topic is printed, it will cause issues. Or, you could use bookmarks and links to establish your own verision of a "Mini-TOC"

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/ Library/ Caches...
5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help: As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Movies with iTunes Extras show only HTML code and not title screen when double clicked.

I only noticed this after some iTunes updates. Any movies that have iTunes Extras donot show the "Title Screen" when double clicked. They only show HTML script. I can still watch the movies, and can access the extras by going to the folder they are in, but thats a pain. I have purchased other movies with extras since encountering the problem and have the same issue. I run windows Vista on a 32-bit system. I have all updated drivers. I have searched the web for an answer but couldnt find anything. It is prob something insanely easy. Any help would be appriciated.

FIX:
Go into "Get Info" and set the Album name to the name of the movie for both the movie and the "Extra". This will fix it.

Did you import the old iPhoto library into the new one? That's not what you want to do because you will import all of the original, modified and thumbnail files as if they were original files. Lots of duplicates and useless small photos.
Do you have a backup copy of the library that you imported into to? If you do then bring it in and then use iPhoto Library Manager to merge the two libraries into a new, 3rd library.
If you don't then you'll have to try to fix the current one and then cull out the duplicates and small useless photos as follows: make a temporary, duplicate copy of your library and apply the three fixes in order as necessary.
Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your HD/User/Home()/ Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your HD/User/Home()/Library /Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If this doesn't fix the problem you'll have to start over from scratch and create a new library from the files inside the Originals folder of your current library. But first you should cull out the small photos that would be the thumbnails from the 2001 library.
Move the Originals folder to the Desktop, open and do a search for Kind=photo, File size is less than 10 KB. That should find all of the thumbnail files which you can then drag to the Trash. You might have to make that less than 50 KB. Then Import the remaining photos into a new iPhoto library.

On double click event . you will have to call another screen say 9000.
now within screen 900 PBO.. you will have to prepare the fieldcatalog/layout.. and the table to be displayed there.
in PAI of screen 9000, you can return to the original ALV.

I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.

At the moment when you open a RAW-file from Adobe Bridge by double-clicking, RAW-file is opened only in Photoshop. In the settings Adobe Bridge - in "open RAW-files by double-clicking in Adobe Camera Raw» box is checked. When you try any changes in the settings Adobe Bridge system displays a message:
Bridge's parent application is not active. Bridge requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature.
The entire line of Adobe products on my computer updated to the latest updates. Previously, a family of products Adobe Photoshop on your computer is not set. Computer - PC, Windows 7 Enterprises.

Unless you have attempted to downgrade to an older version of iTunes this is likely to be a sign of a corrupt library. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

For me it was Solution 5. I had to change permissions and add me as a user (only had system access to the folders).

Ok....I have a 2012 MBP that has Yosemiti installed. The airplay works from iTunes, but when I try to mirror from the desktop I get the "no device detected" message. Airplay on all of my other devices work fine. Has anyone else had this issue?
