Double-sided vpc Nexus7K and NExus 5K

I have two 5548UP connected to two Nexus 7k forming double sided vPC design. The 5k is acting as access layer top of the rack and 7k as aggregate. The 7k is configured with vrf contexts and vlans with vrrp.
I followed the best practices for double-sided vpc described in this document
http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/sw/design/vpc_design/vpc_best_practices_design_guide.pdf
I'm using the same port-channel-id and vpc-id in all 4 devices. I also have different vpc domain-ids for the N5K (domain-id:20) and N7K (domain-id:10)
All physical connectivity has been verified. I have 16-ports port-channels (8 ports on each peer)
I have also verified all vpc status: show vpc, show vpc consistency-parameters global, and everything looks good int both N5K and N7K: keepalive is alive, peer adjacency formed ok, all consistency status are success, etc
I have also checked port-channel configurations and each individual interface member of the port-channel
The problem I have is the port-channel in the N7K is no coming up and I just can't figure out why. I've checked all I can think of, and tried different things and the only way I can bring the port-channel up is if I shutdown all interfaces in the N5K connecting to the N7K except those between 5K-1 and 7K1 (primary devices) and remove the "vpc 31" command under port-channel 31
In the Nexus5K, things looks good, this is what I see when I check the status of the vpc
vPC status
id     Port        Status Consistency Reason                     Active vlans
31     Po31        up     success     success                    14-16,24,28
                                                                 -31
However, in the N7K this is what I get. There are not consistency errors, but still the status of the port-channel is down.
vPC status
id   Port      Status Consistency Reason                  Active vlans
31   Po31      down   success     success                    -
sh int po31
port-channel31 is down (inactive)
admin state is up
vPC Status: Up, vPC number: 31
Any ideas what could be wrong? has anyone experienced similar issue?
Any suggestions are welcome.

Could you provide a quick diagram and the output of 'show port-channel summary' on both switches.

  • Double sided VPC/enhanced VPC and MST

    Hello,
I have some doubts/clarifications regarding MST with VPC--
There are two N7K core switches and four N5K switches and eight N2K.
there will be double sided VPC between N5K and N7K.
there will be enhanced vpn between N5k and n2k.
N7Ks will be connected to fifteen 4500.
Each 4500 will be in a VPC with N7k.
Each 4500 is single homed to 15 catalyst edge switches
Assume MST needs be configured in this network.
    1) On MST instance  - on N7K as per cisco design guide
    2) Map all vlans (1-3967,4048-4093) in this instance N7K as per cisco design guide
    3) No need to hard code root as peer switch command will be used
Now the concern that i have is regarding MSt configuration on all 4500.
    1) 4500 number 1 may have vlans 2,3,4,5,6,7 and 4500 number 2 may have vlans 2,11,12,13,14,15,16
so can i just map all vlans to the single instance like instance 1 vlan 1-4094 on all catalysts 4500?
    2) catalyst edge switches all run PVST+, i believe 4500 mst will interoperate with edge switch pvst+.
Is there any othe things that need tobe taken care of in this scenario?
    Regards

    1) If you are using MST with single region, I don't see the point. It can be done with RPVST+ without any interop worries.
    2) Same as 1.
    3) This is not true, with peer-switch feature, it is a BP to hard code the N7K as STP root with the same priority value, otherwise, the smallest switch ID will be the root. In you case, most likely the oldest switch will become the root if you don't hard code it.
To your second set of questions:
    1) Yes, you need to match all your region(s) with the same VLANs, otherwise, you will have MST inconsistency.
    2) Yes.

  • Double sided VPC- adding one more pair

I have 2 pair of 5k connected in double side vpc configuration. can i connect one more pair of 5k to the existing domain ?

    Hi,
I don't see any issue with double sides vPC between two pairs of 5Ks.  I think, the reason you don't see it often is because usually you have a set of 5ks with vPC as layer-2 and a set of 7Ks as layer-2/3.  Of course you could use a second set of 5Ks in place of 7Ks and use them as layer-2/3.  This is with daughter cards installed on 5Ks.

  • N7k - Domain ID for double-sided vPC topology

I´m planning the configuration for 2 N7k using the following network diagram:

Hello Clark, thanks but this is not my case, I have 2 N7k, with 2 VDC on each, so I'll create a vPC from Core Switches and another vPC from Aggregation Switches, and my question is for vPC domain ID for each vPC configured.
What I had found till now, it's that it has to be different vPC domain ID.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 plus: trouble with double sided printing

I have just installed Officejet Pro 8600 plus. My iMac is running on OS X 10.9.2
I want to print a double sided brochure. And I have succeeded. However, the printing on one side of the paper is upside down.
    To achieve this:
    Print <Copies & Pages <Layout - turn on two-sided - long edge binding
    Layout direction is greyed out
How can I fix this please

    Hello xxzz,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that the flip on long edge option is greyed out for you when you try to print double sided. I will try to help you with this.
Usually if an option is greyed out, it indicates that the software wasn't installed completely or correctly. That or the printer isn't capable of the task. Knowing that this printer is able to duplex, it could be a problem with the software/drivers.
    Try the following.
    Uninstall the software.
    Reset the print system.
    Verify/Repair disk permissions
Re-install the software - software download
Test to see if you're now able to choose the options.
Let me know how things go, thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • PIXMA MG6320 Double Sided Business Cards Not Printing Correctly

I just set up and used the PIXMA MG6320 for the first time.  Prints regular prints fine but I tried to use inkjet double sided business cards and something when very wrong.  The paper seems the same on both sides.  The brand is Avery.  Side one prints great but side two prints as if there is a plastic finish on the paper.  I left the ink to dry over night and it never did.  Also, the image is terrible when it does print.  As if its on a slippy surface but the paper seems the same flat finsih on both sides.  Its not about double sided printing becasue when I sent side 2 through first, it did the same thing.

First of all double sided printing set-up from Illustrator is something that is very specific to the printer you are using, so you'd need to refer to your printer's user documentation to review the correct settings. Having said that the steps you take are very similar for all printers.
Here are some steps that might be of help:
The easiest way to this is probably to place the front and back of the business cards on two separate artboards, for example Artboard 1 for the front of the cards and Artboard 2 for the back of the cards. Use the Artboards panel (Window > Artobards) add a second artboard of you've not yet got front and back on separate sheets.
In the File > Print dialog box, in the General section ensure that 'All' Artboards are selected or define the Artboards Range to print if you have more than two artboards in your Illustrator file.
You might also want to enable Trim Marks (Marks and Bleed section) so you can easily trim the cards after printing.
You can access your printer specific settings, such as duplex or double sided printing by clicking 'Setup...' at the bottom of the Print dialog box in Illustrator.
Mostly you'll find an option you can enable called 'Double Sided'  or 'Two Sided'.
There will also be a second option for either Long Edge or Short Edge binding. For a portrait artboard you'd select Long-edge, for a landscape artboard you'd select Short Edge.
Once you've set the Setup specific to your printer click OK and you'll return to the Illustrator Print dialog box, from where you can now print.
You might need to tweak the position of your 'back' a little if your printer doesn't print perfectly registered.

  • Cannot print double-sided from Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.2

Cannot print double-sided from Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.2
Problem limited to Adobe Acrobat, MS Office 2008, Pages, Keynote.
Can print double-sided from Safari and Mac Mail
Using HP Color LaserJet 2605dtn. Have downloaded most recent driver from HP
    Computer: Apple MacPro Tower, 6GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM, Quad-Core Intel Xeon, Processor speed = 3.2 GHz

Correct way to install new driver is go to Printer Utility and delete That printer from the list.
    Then install the new driver.
Then go back to Printer Utility and add the new driver Back
Then go to systems preferences and to Print Fax (or Printer if no longer setup for fax) and set up for the the printer and set as default.
This way you shouldn't have to go into either print menu or Page setup menu and set for desired printer.
most hp printer in the pint menu you click copies and pages and mouse down to two sided pages you choose either book (facing pages) or Tablet (printed as you would a Tablet that's bound at the top.
you need to test a two page document to see which does correctly for you. Its best never to have the application set for two sided. in fact if you have set for two sided in both one counter acts the the other.
So set it only in the printer menu and no where else.
Also once you set up you can save printer profiles that you can go back to click on the Presets button mouse down to very bottom save with a anme you can remember even put the words two-sided in title then save. Then you can go to that preset and print your heart out.

  • HP Officejet Pro 7680 and double-sided printing

I just got this yesterday, but I cannot get this to print double-sided in my Macbook Pro (10.5.1). I checked the feature in the printing preference (system preference), but the double-sided option in the print dialog is always grayed out on all applications.
My previous HP 7310 didn't have any problem printing double-sided.
Also I get the error message related to hpsuppliestool program every time I try to print. I keep pressing ignore to get rid of the dialog but it's annoying.
Any one with similar experiences or solutions?

I'm updating this so that others can benefit from my experience.
I got everything working now-duplexing, scanning, etc.
I found the beta scanning software on the forum, and installed it. It works. I can scan multiple pages using the ADF w/o any problem.
I found the beta printing software for HP OfficeJet Pro 7300 in the forum and installed it according to its instructions. Now duplexing is back.
I found the HPsuppliesTools.app in my Library/printer folder and deleted it. No more error messages.
So, now everything is working 100%!
Thanks for HP folks to post things on this forum!

  • Double sided printing on HP officejet 7410 and windows 8.1

I recently had to upgrade to a new computer with Windows 8.1 and after downloading the driver for my old HP Officejet 7410 All in One WITH the double sided printing attachment, I cannot get it to print on both sides automatically, as in the printer setup there is only "print one page" or manually print double sided.  I continue to get the manual print instructions to turn the pages over.  I have downloaded the driver twice and cannot find an option for the double sided driver.  The printer still prints double sided automatically with the other old computer i have.
Help ~ wanting to print double sided!

I have the same problem.  I have the HP Officejet 7410 that supports automatic double sided printing.  I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1.  I installed the most recent software and drivers from the HP support site.  But automatic double sided printing is no longer an option.  What's up with that HP?  How about a fix?

I am using a MacBook Pro and am trying to print double sided copies on the HP Deskjet 3054 that came with it. Can anyone tell me how to do this? I am a total MacBook nube and can use any help you may offer! Thank you so much.

How you enable double-sided printing can depend on the applications from whick you wish to print. Example: if I print to my HP PhotoSmart  from Safari, I get this print dialog box:
(Edit: OOPS! Note that I forgot to switch printers when i took the scene-shots, so ignore the "Brother" reference. It's should look the same for your HP.
Note the selection labled "Safari" near the bottom. If I change that form "safari to "Layout: I get this:
Note the option for two-sided printing appears for your selection. If I print from Word, the box is different:
The "Copies & Pages" option can be changed to "Layout" when you click it, again allowing the selection of two-sided printing.
If you tell us what applciaiton is vexing you, we may be able to give better-focused information.

  • Printing double-sided problem, Leopard, Laserjet P2055dn and Quark XPress

I've also asked about this in Quark's forum.
Printing a Quark file double-sided to the Laserjet using Leopard - first third of the sheet (A4 landscape) is blank on both sides).
This does not happen on Tiger, same file, printer and version of Quark.
Printing from any other (text) app (Acrobat pdf, Word, TextEdit, InDesign) whether on Tiger or Leopard is correct.
    Any suggestions, please?

  • Ask the Expert: Different Flavors and Design with vPC on Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches

Welcome to the Cisco® Support Community Ask the Expert conversation.  This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions about Cisco® NX-OS.
The biggest limitation to a classic port channel communication is that the port channel operates only between two devices. To overcome this limitation, Cisco NX-OS has a technology called virtual port channel (vPC). A pair of switches acting as a vPC peer endpoint looks like a single logical entity to port channel attached devices. The two devices that act as the logical port channel endpoint are actually two separate devices. This setup has the benefits of hardware redundancy combined with the benefits offered by a port channel, for example, loop management.
vPC technology is the main factor for success of Cisco Nexus® data center switches such as the Cisco Nexus 5000 Series, Nexus 7000 Series, and Nexus 2000 Series Switches.
This event is focused on discussing all possible types of vPC along-with best practices, failure scenarios, Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) recommendations and troubleshooting

    Hello Gustavo
Please see my responses to your questions:
Yes almost all routing protocols use Multicast to establish adjacencies. We are dealing with two different type of traffic –Control Plane and Data Plane.
Control Plane: To establish Routing adjacency, the first packet (hello) is punted to CPU. So in the case of triangle routed VPC topology as specified on the Operations Guide Link, multicast for routing adjacencies will work. The hellos packets will be exchanged across all 3 routers and adjacency will be formed over VPC links
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/operations/n5k_L3_w_vpc_5500platform.html#wp999181
Now for Data Plane we have two types of traffic – Unicast and Multicast.
The Unicast traffic will not have any forwarding issues, but because the Layer 3 ECMP and port channel run independent hash calculations there is a possibility that when the Layer 3 ECMP chooses N5k-1 as the Layer 3 next hop for a destination address while the port channel hashing chooses the physical link toward N5k-2. In this scenario,N5k-2 receives packets from R with the N5k-1 MAC as the destination MAC.
Sending traffic over the peer-link to the correct gateway is acceptable for data forwarding, but it is suboptimal because it makes traffic cross the peer link when the traffic could be routed directly.
For that topology, Multicast Traffic might have complete traffic loss due to the fact that when a PIM router is connected to Cisco Nexus 5500 Platform switches in a vPC topology, the PIM join messages are received only by one switch. The multicast data might be received by the other switch.
The Loop avoidance works little different across Nexus 5000 and Nexus 7000.
Similarity: For both products, loop avoidance is possible due to VSL bit
The VSL bit is set in the DBUS header internal to the Nexus.
It is not something that is set in the ethernet packet that can be identified. The VSL bit is set on the port asic for the port used for the vPC peer link, so if you have Nexus A and Nexus B configured for vPC and a packet leaves Nexus A towards Nexus B, Nexus B will set the VSL bit on the ingress port ASIC. This is not something that would traverse the peer link.
This mechanism is used for loop prevention within the chassis.
The idea being that if the port came in the peer link from the vPC peer, the system makes the assumption that the vPC peer would have forwarded this packet out the vPC-enabled port-channels towards the end device, so the egress vpc interface's port-asic will filter the packet on egress.
Differences:  In Nexus 5000 when it has to do L3-to-L2 lookup for forwarding traffic, the VSL bit is cleared and so the traffic is not dropped as compared to Nexus 7000 and Nexus 3000.
It still does loop prevention but the L3-to-L2 lookup is different in Nexus 5000 and Nexus 7000.
For more details please see below presentation:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/sites/default/files/session_14-_nexus.pdf
DCI Scenario:  If 2 pairs are of Nexus 5000 then separation of L3/L2 links is not needed.
But in most scenarios I have seen pair of Nexus 5000 with pair of Nexus 7000 over DCI or 2 pairs of Nexus 7000 over DCI. If Nexus 7000 are used then L3 and L2 links are required for sure as mentioned on above presentation link.
Let us know if you have further questions.
    Thanks,
    Vishal

  • C410a - Double sided, 2 sided, duplexing shifts the image, and changes the registration.

Double sided, 2 sided, duplexing, moves the image, changing the registration. This makes it impossilbe to print folding cards or brochures correctly. Of course, with Word we can print double sided manually. But with Hallmark Card Studio and other such software, there is no manual option. Resetting margins is not going to happen, and some programs don't give that option anyway. Is there a simple work-around? Is there a way to just eliminate the auto duplex feature? This makes this printer a real pain and a high cost usless one for my wife, who does lots of cards.

    Hi,
I am having the same issues and am having no luck with HP techs (even told to return the printer by HP). Were you able to resolve this issue?? If I tell the thing to print with .125 margins all around, then that is what I should get; but instead, I get an upward shift of the entire page!?! Using Avery card stock is impossible because of this. I have tried using Corel Draw to layout, Publisher (with Avery template and without). I set up my own guidelines and reduce margins all around. I am going crazy with this!
