Doubled output from JSP

          This is odd ! We are using WLS 6.1 with servlets and JSPs, no EJB. Sometimes
          we use System.out.println() for debugging in a JSP and once in a while we see
          the debug message being output twice. We have a proxy server for our intranet
          and when we disable that from the browser (IE 5.5) the double output goes away.
          What is puzzling abou this is that the double output alos goes away if we run
          the same JSP in Tomcat ... regardless of whether or not we enable the proxy server
          in our browsers !
          Any ideas or similar experiences ?
          TIA !!

  • Is the raw output from JSP and XSQLServlet the same?

    Hi
    Is there is difference between the raw output from XSQLServlet and JSP? For example, assuming the same content is being generated, is there some additional header information emitted by XSQLServlet that is not done by JSP?
    I am using software that successfully consumes generated content from a JSP OK, but the same content (using the same XML/XSL) generated from XSQLServlet is being rejected. I am puzzled by this. Maybe this is due to some differences in servlet output or an encoding issue? The content is not HTML but XML-like with an "application" contentType, like Steve's SVG example.
    It seems that XSQLServlet is showing some data prior to emitting the actual content, i.e. HTTP version, responding server version, content type and date, e.g.
    HTTP/1.0 200 OK^M
    Server: Resin/2.0.5^M
    Content-type: application/x-sky; charset=UTF-8^M
    Date: Thu, 28 Mar 2002 06:45:34 GMT^M
    ^M
    (then the generated content)
    Is this preamble usually generated by a JSP also?
    If not, can this information be turned off, or put another way, can XSQLServlet's raw output be set to be exactly like JSP? If not, is there a workaround?
    I have tried setting the following XSQLConfig.xml
    <suppress-mime-charset> for the mime-type &
    <character-set-conversion>
    <none/>
    </character-set-conversion>
    also, but to no avail.
    Please help! I really want to use XSQLServlet!
    Thanks.
    Michael.

    Yes, just less fine control over the process but the same engine.

  • WML Output From JSP/Servlets

    I need some assistance with WML output from someone who knows...
    I am writing a small subset of applications for mobile access. When testing them through the OpenWave Emulator (the UP browser) everything works just fine. However..the output varies greatly to where on some machines the login cannot be performed. My only problems tend to occur with forms and the lack of an <input type="submit"/> component.
    Here's the WML output of the login screen:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE wml PUBLIC "-//WAPFORUM//DTD WML 1.2//EN"
    "http://www.wapforum.org/DTD/wml12.dtd">
    <wml>
    <card id="login" title="Login Form">
    <p>Please login.<br/>
    <table>
    <tr><td>Username:</td></tr>
    <tr><td><input name="username" type="text" title="username"/></td></tr>
    <tr><td>Password:</td></tr>
    <tr><td><input name="password" type="password" title="password"/></td></tr>
    </table>
    </p>
    <do type="accept" label="Login">
    <go href="/portal/mobile/vendor/" method="POST">
    <postfield name="username" value="$(username)"/>
    <postfield name="password" value="$(password)"/>
    </go>
    </do>
    </card>
    </wml>Again, in OpenWave's UP browser, I can enter the username and password, then click options --> Login and things work great.
    However on the WinWap browser, I only get the labels, no input fields or login option.
    Does this WML look properly formed? Any help would be appreciated.

    I can't really tell you the fix, as I really can't remember, but I know I had a similar problem once... OpenWave was fine, but the Nokia emulator didn't like it.
    I think I ended up having a different DOCTYPE and having the username and password inputs on separate pages.
    Does WML support tables?

              Has someone done something like this before.Any ideas, suggestions .

    You can set the MIME content type as .doc and try to open the Page.
    res.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel"); to generate the Page output as Excel
    res.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-word"); to generate the Page output as MS Word doc

  • Reading the output from a object running in the local machine.

    Reading the output from a object running in the local machine.
    By using a signed applet i am lunching a small application that returns an image object, how to read that without storing it in the hard disk.
    Which means i need to read the image object return by the local application using applet or jsp .
    i am using tomacat and an html page with an applet with it to lunch the application.

    You can write that image in a binary format using OutputStream for System.out and then read it in your applet.

    I know it's a security issue, because I've encountered the equivalent problem in ASP/IIS, and I had to give a domain user rights to both the IIS Virtual Directory, and the file share to be able to access.
    Any ideas how to set up Tomcat to be able to access the file share successfully?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello Veer,
    From what you have posted it looks like while logging your error another problem occurred. Did you get any output from your System.out calls? If not can you try adding a few in order to home in the problem area.

  • Database Access from JSP - Is it correct?

    From a JSP Page, we need to retreive data from the database. We have our own application specific API commands to retreive data from database. We have doubts in using this API commands.
    Approach 1:
    From the jsp, send the query details to a Java file (BO). From the java file (BO), call the database and retreive the data
    Approach 2:
    Use the API command directly from the jsp page to retreive details from the database.
    In both approaches, the same API command is going to be used. We just want to know is there any advantage in calling the database through the java file (BO) instead of directly from the jsp?
    Regards,
    R.Aravinth

    Thanks Ram. But we are not going to have any complex
    codes written for data retreival. We just epxect a
    single line of code which will call database and that
    API command will return us a storage variable which
    we will use for displaying purpose.
    ok take a look at this
    //code to display lot of other stuff
    <%
        try {
           //code to access db and get data;
        catch(SomeException e){
            //oh-oh you are already on the display logic and have output a lot of stuff
            //how do you handle this
    %>versus this
    //code in some handler or bean
       try{
               //code to get data
              //set an attribute to enable a redirect to jsp page
        catch(Exception e){
              //handle exception, log ?
              //set an attribute to enable a redirect to error page
    Anyways, i wanted to know will the performance of the
    page improve if we call the database from a separate
    java rather than directly from jsp?As evnafets said, the answer is no. It may even be faster :)
    cheers,
    ram.

  • Dynamic generate JNLP from JSP ?

    Hello,
    I tried to generate JNLP from JSP, but it just show the Opem/Save diakog and cannot startup the Web Start.
    I am using Tomcat-5.5.12 in WinXP + JDK1.5
    How can I dynamically generate JNLP ?
    Eric

    It will range from easy to rather difficult, depending on how hard you try...
    If you want to do the bare minimum it will require you to code up some JSPs with scriptlets, declarations, expressions, and <jsp:xxx ...> tags, have some server turn them into a servlet for you, and then determine how things like
    <%@ page isELIgnored="false" %> are handled. Things like:
    <jsp:useBean ...> <jsp:setProperty ... > should be rather easy to translate using introspection on the beans they refer to. But <jsp:import ...> and the likes may be more difficult.
    Any normal html code is just wrapped inside a out.println(...) statement. Scriptlets should have the <% %> stripped and coppied to the output. Expressions should have their <%= %> stripped and be added to the surrounding out.println...
    for example:
    <a href="<%=thePage%>">
    should become:
    out.println("<a href=\""+thePage+"\">");
    All the content should be added to a _jspservice method.  Then, things between <%! %> should be coppied to source file as methods.
    Complications come when people start to use custom tags. You will have to learn how to create a PageContext that will be available to the jsp service method.
    You should also look up the JSP/Servlet spec to see how this stuff should be done.
    It is a whole nuther can o worms if the resulting JSP is expected to compile without a server...</a>

    I know it may not be the best way but this is how it is done.

  • HTML from JSP

    Hi all,
    I got a problom,
    How can i get the output of a JSP page into a java class?.That is,The original JSP page sends the generated HTML to the browser.What i need is that generated HTML into a java class.

    The string myContent should be the dynamically generated HTML from a JSP page.
    that is,
    String myContent = output from CustInfo.jsp.
    How to achieve this?.

    How to achieve this?.Open a URLConnection (or HttpURLConnection) to CustInfo.jsp,
    use the getInputStream() method to get a reference to the input stream for the jsp,
    read this stream (which will be the HTML for CustInfo.jsp) into the String.

    I`m trying to connect to an oracle DB from JSP, i got the driver ojdbc14.zip, but i forced it to .jar, i`m using jdk 1.5 and Oracle9i Release 9.2.0.4.0 - Production, and my url connection string is: jdbc:oracle:thin:@//ALPHA21:1521/prod.
    the DB location is ALPHA21, the port is 1521 and the SID is prod but i got the following error:
    CONNECTION REFUSED(DESCRIPTION =(TMP=)(VSNNUM=153093120)(ERR=12514)(ERROR_STACK=( ERROR=(CODE=12514)(EMFI=4))))
    What can i do?
    i beg for help
    Thanks anyway

    Hello,
    double check the SID you are using. (tnsnames.ora)
    Check the listener if the prod instance is accepting connections.
    Issue the following command: lsnrctl status
