Doubt about table locks

i have a master table from which many other child tables take data for various summarizations. I have a cron tab in unix which calls oracle stored procedures to populate each of these tables in a sequential manner. For example table 1 starts getting populated at 6 am and is reading data from master table and the process goes on till 8 am. If another table 2 starts getting populated at 7 am and has to get data from the same rows as table 1 is reading . Will table 2 be able to access the mater table entirely without missing any rows?
Thank you

Given we have no version number and no code we have no way of knowing what you are or are not doing. Not even whether foreign key constraints exist. Thus no help is possible based on what little you've posted.
The one bit of advice I will give is that I have not found a valid reason to use a *NIX cron job in a decade. Assuming a currently supported version of the product throw it away and use DBMS_SCHEDULER.

  • Question about Table Locks

    Hi All,
Is there any Oracle defined table/place from where we can know the details about Tables that have been locked in the current session?
    Thank you.

    Hi ,
To know which all objects are locked, you can use the below query :-
    COLUMN owner FORMAT A20
    COLUMN username FORMAT A20
    COLUMN object_owner FORMAT A20
    COLUMN object_name FORMAT A30
    COLUMN locked_mode FORMAT A15
    SELECT b.session_id AS sid,
           NVL(b.oracle_username, '(oracle)') AS username,
           a.owner AS object_owner,

                                 5, 'S/Row-X (SSX)',
                                 6, 'Exclusive (X)',
                                 b.locked_mode) locked_mode,
           b.os_user_name

  • Basic doubt about Primary Key/Foreign Key in Oracle Tables

    Hi,
I have a doubt whether Primary Keys/Foreign Keys are allowed in Oracle. Some of the people I know are telling me that Oracle does not encourage having Primary Keys/Foreign keys in its database tables.
However if I go to the ETRM and look for information about some of the Oracle Tables, I am informed that Primary Keys do exist. However I am being told that ETRM is not a reliable way of having correct information about table structure.
It would be great if any one of you provides me with some insight in this. Any pointers to a document would be great.
    Thanks

It is not that PK/FKs are disallowed in Oracle Apps (there are some on the standard Oracle Apps tables), but they are typically not used. I am not positive what the logic behind this is, but my guess is that it was party due to the earlier versions of Oracle Apps pre-dating declarative database referential integrity in Oracle DB and also on performance issues with the standard referential integrity with the earlier versions of declarative database referential integrity.
As far as eTRM is concerned - I understood that the data is based on a design repository rather than a physical Oracle Apps DB. So all of the information in there is logically correct, but not necessarily enforced via the standard Oracle DB declarative referential integrity (rather by the application code or APIs).

  • Basic doubt about Primary Keys/Foreign Keys in Oracle Tables

    Hi,
I have a doubt whether Primary Keys/Foreign Keys are allowed in Oracle or not. I have been informed that Oracle does not encourage having Primary Keys/Foreign keys in its database tables. Instead it urges users to have unique constraints on the requisite columns.
However if I go to the ETRM and look for information about some of the Oracle Tables, I am informed that Primary Keys do exist. At the same time, I am being told that ETRM is not a reliable way of having correct information about table structure (at least the Primary Key information).
It would be nice if any one of you provides me with some insight in this. Any pointers to a document would be welcome.

  • Doubts about Temporary Table.

    Hi,
    I am using Temporary Table.
But the insert command takes too much time compare to insert in Normal table.
One more doubt about Temporary Table is:
Suppose there are two different users. They connect and first insert rows of their use .Now they go for select.
Does select of one user goes to check the rows of second user also or the temporary table treats 2 users data as inserted in 2 different tables?

  • About session abnormal termination, table locked question.

    Hi all,
i test some table lock, after i run this statement:
    select * from testt for update nowait;
i abnormal terminate session, then the table testt will be locking until after 20 minutes,
i checked some document, the parameter of SQLNET.EXPIRE_TIME = 5 in sqlnet.ora file can release that lock, i set with 5,and then test again, but still wait 20 minutes the lock can release, why?

I've changed this now to use the URL variable. I am used to using that to go from a results page to a details page where the recordset on the details page is used. I hadn't realised that you could just set a link to:
    <a href="addNomination.php?LodgeID=<?php echo($_GET['LodgeID']); ?>">Add Nomination</a>
where there is no recordset on a page, just for the purposes of passing the variable. (Yeah, I know - this is probably really basic!)
I do have one last question on this though - my form action is:
    <form method="post" id="form1" action="<?php echo KT_escapeAttribute(KT_getFullUri()); ?>">
And then the link to a NominationAdded page is in the php code at the top of the AddNomination page:
    $ins_nominations->registerTrigger("END", "Trigger_Default_Redirect", 99, "NominationAdded.php");
What would be useful would be to pass the URL variable through again, so that on the NominationAdded page I can have a link back to the same Lodge to add another Nomination without finding the Lodge again.
But I'm not sure what the syntax would be, as it included some PHP within existing PHP, so not just:
    $ins_nominations->registerTrigger("END", "Trigger_Default_Redirect", 99, "nominationAdded.php?LodgeID=echo($_GET['LodgeID'])");
I assume this must be possible, but not sure of the exact syntax?

  • Doubt about Select statement.

    Hi folks!!
I have a few doubts about the select statements, it may be a silly things but its useful for me.
what is   difference between below statment.
    1)SELECT * FROM TABLE.
    2)SELECT SINGLE * FROM TABLE
    3)SELECT SINGLE FROM TABLE.
Hope i will get answer, thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Richie..

    Hi,
try this and if possible use sap help.i mean place the cursor on select and press F1.
                 Types of select statements:
    1.     select * from ztxlfa1 into table it.
This is simple select statement to fetch all the data of db table into internal table it.
       2.   select * from ztxlfa1 into table it where lifnr between 'V2' and 'V5'.
Thisis using where condition between v2 and v5.
      4. select * from ztxlfa1 where land1 = 'DE'. "row goes into default table work Area
      5. select lifnr land1 from ztxlfa1
into corresponding fields of it   "notice 'table' is omitted
             where land1 = 'DE'.
              append it.
               endselect.
Now data will go into work area. and then u will add it to internal table by
            append statement.
      6.   Table 13.2 contains a list of the various forms of select as it is used with internal tables and their relative efficiency. They are in descending order of most-to-least efficient.
Table 13.2  Various Forms of SELECT when Filling an Internal Table
    Statement(s)                                   Writes To
    select into table it                                    Body
select into corresponding fields of table it   Body
    select into it                                    Header line
select into corresponding fields of it           Header line
    7. SELECT VBRK~VBELN
           VBRK~VKORG
           VBRK~FKDAT
           VBRK~NETWR
           VBRK~WAERK
           TVKOT~VTEXT
           T001~BUKRS
           T001~BUTXT
INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE IT_FINAL
        FROM VBRK
INNER JOIN TVKOT ON VBRKVKORG = TVKOTVKORG
        INNER JOIN T001 ON VBRKBUKRS = T001BUKRS
WHERE VBELN IN DOCNUM AND VBRK~FKSTO = ''
       AND VBRK~FKDAT in date.
Select statement using inner joins for vbrk and t001 and tvkot table for this case based on the conditions
    8. SELECT T001W~NAME1 INTO  TABLE IT1_T001W
FROM T001W INNER JOIN EKPO ON T001WWERKS = EKPOWERKS
    WHERE EKPO~EBELN = PURORD.
here selecting a single field into table it1_t001winner join on ekpo.
    9. SELECT BUKRS LIFNR EBELN FROM EKKO INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF IT_EKKO WHERE     EBELN IN P_O_NO.
    ENDSELECT.
SELECT BUTXT   FROM T001 INTO  IT_T001 FOR ALL ENTRIES IN IT_EKKO WHERE BUKRS = IT_EKKO-BUKRS.
    ENDSELECT.
    APPEND IT_T001.
here I am using for all entries statement with select statement. Both joins and for all entries used to fetch the data on condition but for all entries is the best one.
    10. SELECT AVBELN BVTEXT AFKDAT CBUTXT ANETWR AWAERK INTO TABLE ITAB
                 FROM  VBRK AS A
INNER JOIN TVKOT AS B ON
                 AVKORG EQ BVKORG
INNER JOIN T001 AS C ON
                 ABUKRS EQ CBUKRS
WHERE  AVBELN IN BDOCU AND AFKSTO EQ ' ' AND B~SPRAS EQ
                 SY-LANGU
AND AFKDAT IN BDATE AND AVBELN EQ ANY ( SELECT VBELN FROM
VBRP WHERE VBRP~MATNR EQ ITEMS ).
Here we are using sub query in inner join specified in brackets.
    Thanks,

If my table Servers have 3 000 000 records , when is done commit ? Commit point has nothing to do with how many rows you process. It is purely business driven. Your code implements some business transaction, right? So if you commit before whole trancaction (from business standpoint) is complete other sessions will already see changes that are (from business standpoint) incomplete. Also, what if rest of trancaction (from business standpoint) fails?

  • Doubts about BP number in SRM and SUS

    Hello everyone,
I have some doubts about the BP number, especially for Vendors.
I am working with the implementation of SRM 5.0 with SUS in an extended classic scenario. We will use one server for SRM and other for SUS. We will use the self registration for vendor (in SUS). My questions are:
    - Can I have the same BP number in SRM and SUS?? Or is it going to be different??
    - When a vendor accesses at the site to make a self registration in SUS, the information is sent to SRM as prospect (by XI) and there the prospect is changed as vendor? After that, is it necessary to send something from SRM to SUS again? (to change the prospect to vendor)
    - When is it necessary to replicate vendors from SRM to SUS??
    Thanks
    Ivá

    Dear Ivan,
Here is answer to all your questions. Follow these steps for ROS configuration:
    Pls note:
    1. No need to have seperate clients for ROS and SUS. Create two clients for EBP and (SUS+ROS).
    2. No need of XI to transfer new registered vendor from ROS to EBP
    Steps to configure scenario:
    1. Make entries in SPRO --> "Define backend system" on both clients.
You will ahev specify logical systems of both the clients (ROS as well as EBP)
    2. Create RFCs on both clients to communicate with each other
    3. In ROS client create Service User for supplier registration service with roles:
        SAP_EC_BBP_CREATEUSER
        SAP_EC_BBP_CREATEVENDOR
Grant u201CS_A.SCONu201D profile to the user.
    4. Maintain service user in u201CLogon Datau201D tab of service : ros_self_reg in ROS client
    5. Create Purchasing and vendor Organizational Structure in EBP client and maintain necessary
attributes. create vendor org structure in ROS client
    6. Create your ROS registration questionnaires and assign to product categories- in ROS client
    7. To transfer suppliers from registration system to EBP/Bidding system, Supplier pre-screening has to be
defined as supplier directory in SRM server - EBP client.
Maintain your prescreen catalog in IMG --> Supplier Relationship Management u2192 SRM Server u2192
Master Data u2192 Define External Web Services (Catalogs, Vendor Lists etc.)
    8. Maintain this catalog Id in purchasing org structure under attribure "CAT" - in EBP client
    9. Modify purchaser role in EBP client:
Open node for u201CROS_PRESCREENu201D and maintain parameter "sap-client" and ROS client number
10.Maintain organizational data in make settings for business partner
Supplier Relationship Management -> Supplier Self-Services -> Master Data -> Make Settings for the Business Partners. This information is actually getting getting stored in table BBP_MARKETP_INFO.
    11. Using manage Business partner node with purchasers login (BBPMAININT), newly registsred vendors are pulled from Pre-screen catalog and BP is created in EBP client. If you you have SUS scenario, ensure to maintain "portal vendor" role here.
I hope this clarifies all your doubts.
Pls reward points for helpful answers

  • Doubt about uses of OBIEE

I have some doubts about the possible uses of OBIEE. It happens that using OBIEE sometimes users demand report of an "analytical" type, that is aggregated analysis through OBIEE’s Answers, selecting data from dimension tables and measures from fact tables. That’s the ordinary purpose of business intelligence tools!!!
Some other times though, users demand to perform through Answers analyses of an "operating" type, that is simple extractions of some fields belonging to dimension tables, linked between each other through joins, (hence without querying fact tables): that happens because some of the tables brought in the datawarehouse are not directly linked to any fact table. In this way users want to use Answers to visualize data even for this kind of extractions (or operating reports).
Is this a correct use of the tool or is it just a “twisted” way of using it, always leading eventually to incorrect extractions? If that’s the case, is it possible to use instead BI Publisher, extracting the dataset through the "Sql Query" mode in a visual manner? The problem of the latter solution, in my case, relies in the fact that users are not enough skilled from the technical point of view: they would prefer to use Answers for every extraction, belonging both to the first type (aggregations) and the second one (extractions), that I just described. Can you suggest a methodology to clarify this situation?

    Hi,
I understand your point... But I think OBIEE doesn't allow having dimension "on their own", they must be joined to a fact table somehow. This way, when you do a query in answers using fields of two dimension tables a fact table should be always involved. When dimensions are conformed, several fact tables may be used, and OBIEE uses the "best" one in terms of performance. However, there are some tricks that you can do to make sure a particular fact table is used, like using the "implicit fact column" in the presentation layer.
So back to your point, using OBIEE for "operational" reporting as you call it is a valid option in my experience, but you have to make sure that the underlaying star schema supports the logic that your end users expect when they use just dimension fields.

  • Identifying deadlocked resources in graph with 1 row lock and 1 table lock

Hi, I have run into repeated occurrences of the deadlock graph at the bottom of this post and have a few questions about it:
    1. It appears that proc 44, session 548 is holding a row lock (X). Is the waiter, proc 30, session 542, trying to acquire a row lock (X) also or an exclusive table lock (X) on the table containing that row?
    2. Under what circumstances would something hold a row exclusive table lock (SX) and want to upgrade that to a share row exclusive table lock (SSX)?
    3. Our table cxml_foldercontent has a column 'structuredDataId' with a FK to cxml_structureddata.id and an ON DELETE SET NULL trigger. Would this help explain why an "update" to one table (i.e.g cxml_foldercontent) would also need to acquire a lock in a foreign table, cxml_structureddata?
    4. What is the difference between "Current SQL statement:" and "Current SQL statement for this session:"? That terminology is confusing. Is session 542 executing the "update" or the "delete"?
    5. In the "Rows waited on:" section is it saying that Session 542 is waiting on on obj - rowid = 0000BE63 - AAAL5jAAGAAA6tZAAK or that it is has the lock on that row and other things are waiting on it?

What is important for a foreign key is to be indexed (of course if the parent table is deleted/merged/updated, or if a performance reason imposes it). Wether this index is unique or not doesn't matter (as far as i know). But, you should ask your self the following question : what is the meaning of having a 1 to 1 relationship between a parent and a child table ? if you succeed to create a unique index on your FK then this means that for each PK value corresponds at most one FK value!! Isn't it? is this what you want to have? Thanks, as I mentioned above, cxml_structureddata is actually the child table of cxml_foldercontent with 1 or more records' owningEntityId referring to rows in cxml_foldercontent. The reason for the FK on cxml_foldercontent.structuredDataId is a little ambiguous but it explained above.
Will a TX-enqueue held on mode X always be waited on by another TX-enqueue row lock X? Or can it be waited on by an Exclusive (X) table lock? Not really clear. Sorry, are you saying my question is unclear or it's not clear why type of eXclusive lock session 542 is trying to acquire in the first line of the trace? Do you think that the exclusive lock being held by session 548 in the first line is on rows in cxml_foldercontent (due to the ON DELETE SET NULL on these child rows) or rows in the cxml_structureddata that it's actually deleting?
Is there any way for me to tell for certain?
The first enqueue is a TX (Transaction Enqueue) held by session 548 on mode X (exclusive). This session represents the blocking session. At the same time the locked row is waited on by the blocked session (542) and the wait is on mode X (exclusive). So put it simply, we have here session 542 waiting for session 548 to release it lock (may be by commiting/roll backing). At this step we are not in presence of a deadlock.
The second line of the deadlock graph shows that session 542 is the blocking session and it is doing a TM enqueue (DML lock) held on SX(Shared eXclusive). While session 548(which is the waiting session) is blocked by session 542 and is waiting on SSX mode.
Here we see that 548 is blocking session 542 via a TX enqueue and session 542 is blocking session 548 via a TM enqueue ---> That is the deadlock. Oracle will then immediately choose arbitrarlly a victim session (542 or 548) and kill its process letting the remaining session continuing its work.
That is your situation explained here. Thanks, any idea why session 542 (the DELETE from cxml_structureddata) would be trying to upgrade it's lock to SSX? Is this lock mode required to update a child tables foreign key columns when using an ON DELETE SET NULL trigger? Having read more about SSX, I'm not sure I understand in what cases it's used. Is there a way for me to confirm with 100% certainty specifically which tables in the TM enqueue locks are being held on? Is session 548 definitely trying to acquire an SSX mode on my cxml_foldecontent table or could it be cxml_structureddata table?
    (a) Verify that all your FK are indexed (be carreful that the FK columns should be at the leading edge of the index)Thanks, we've done this already. When you say the "leading edge" you mean for a composite index? These indexes are all single column.
    (b) Verify the logic of the DML against cxml_foldercontentCan you be more specific? Any idea what I'm looking for?

  • Doubt about Tunning View Objects

Hi !. I have the following doubt about tunning View Objects:
If I have the following configuration on a VO:
    All Rows
    In Batches Of: 11
    As Needed
    Access Mode: Scrollable
    Range Size: 10
Total Records On The Table: More than 100
What would happen is that while the initial render, the view cache is fetch with 11 rows from the table and the ui table shows 10. In subsequent scroll events, more queries again will be done but not when the user scrolls back. My doubt is this one: Why, while the initial render If I put a breakpoint in this overrided method executeQueryForCollection, the execution reachs there but in subsequent scroll events (forward) the execution doesn't reach there ?. I understand thast this should happen as the required rows are not yet in the cache. I would like to know a way to test this access mode and what method is executed in every roundtrip to the DB. Thankx !.

I don't think ADF needs to execute the query again - it just needs to fetch the next set of records.
So if the cursor is already open, no need to issue another query.
You can use the HTTP Analyzer to watch network traffic
Monitoring ADF Pages Round-Trips with the HTTP Analyzer
And you can use the logging features of ADF to see the queries being executed.

  • Table Lock DB2

    Hello All,
Just wanted some advice, here is my situation.
I have a message driven bean which i want to ensure i only receive once.
So i am storing the MDB id's in a DB2 Database.
(simple table that just stores MDB id's plus some other mdb data)
I would like to do a table lock to keep MDB reading/inserting consistency. In my transaction I would be.
check if the id is there already and an insert if its not.
I think I can use a select for update in DB2 but i have also been reading about setting isolation type of TRANSACTION_SERIALIZABLE. Which would be the best approach?

also just found another DB2 SQL statment LOCK TABLE not sure if this is another good soultion.

  • Doubt about how to extend 2LIS_08TRTLP.

    hello all!
i have a doubt about 2LIS_08TRTLP extractor. I checked the Estructure Maintenance for this datasource and it has
the follow BW communication structure: MCCOMVTRLK, MCCOMVTRLP, MCCOMVTSP, MCCOMVTTK e MCCOMVTTS. Searching for
field UATBG, i found it in MCCOMVTTK and MCCOMVTTS.
when i try to extend the 2LIS_08TRLP datasource with UATBG field, i just can do this with MCCOMVTTS-UATBG because i
didn´t find the UATBG-MCCOMVTTK in field list. I need MCCOMVTTK-UATBG and not the MCCOMVTTS-UATBG.
    what is happening here friends?

    Hi,
2LIS_08TRTLP gives the Delivery Item in Shipment. Therefore it mainly deals with the deliveries and the shipment stages. Therefore most of the fields come from the VTTS and LIPS.
IF you need data from VTTK, then you need to use datasource 2LIS_08TRTK.
Also refer sap note 440166. It gives the design using an ODS. Basically, you get to know what are the keys being used for fetching the data from the tables.
    Regards.
