Doubt regarding Message statement

Hi,
I want to pop up a message in which I want the valye of X tp be replaced by its value.
DATA: X(3) TYPE C VALUE 'FFF'.
MESSAGE ID 'ERROR MESSAGE' TYPE 'E' NUMBER '000' WITH 'COMPUTED' '&X&'.
But this does not work.
Can someone help me out ?
Tushar

Tushar,
The ID part refers to a Message Class. Here you specified 'Error Message' which is an invalid name as well as being not in customer name space (does not start with Y or Z). You can examine existing Message Classes as well as create and maintain with Txn SE91.
A message with Number mentioned with the number part should exist in the specified Message Class. In your case the message should have at least  two '&' symbols as place holders for two variable you are going to substitute from your ABAP.
Do not enclose a variable name with  & and  quotes in the ABAP code.
As already mentioned in one of the replies, Error Messages by default are not dispalyed in a popup. It is a user setting.
Also, please read the F1 help for the Message statement.
Cheers,
Ramki Maley.

  • Doubt Regarding Merge Statement in Oracle

    Hi,
    I have an SP which takes 3 parameters Lets say
    (in_empid, in_empname,in_age)
    here in_empid corresponds to the empid ie primary key for update/insert
    Now which of the approach will be better. Will there be problem in using Merge statements for updates/insert
    1. Approach 1
    Add one more flag in parameters in_action . Now if in_action = 'U' then write an update statement.If in_action='I' then write insert stmnt
    2. Approach 2
    write a merge stmnt as follows
    merge into employee e using
    ( select in_empid, in_empname,in_age from dual ) b
    on  ( b.in_empid = e.empid)
    WHEN MATCHED THEN
      UPDATE SET e.ENAME = in_empname,
                           e.age = in_age
    WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN
      INSERT
      VALUES (in_empid,in_empname,in_age) something like that
    Which would be preferred? I mean is there any restriction that merge can be used only to merge 2 tables?what are the drawbacks of using Merge?
    Regds,
    S

    Hi cd,
    Thanks for the reply.
    Actaully I was keeping the front-end code also in mind.
    If we click an update button, then they will have to manage a flag till the end to say that transaction was update. whereas when its an insert of new record, they have to maintain a falg till end to imply that the transaction was insert.
    I want to avoid this so that they need not maintain additional flag.
    Hence I was thinking of using MERGE statement.
    Will there be any problem in using merge for such scenarios?

  • I have doubt in Read statement

    Hi All.
    I have doubt in Read statement .i need to convert following select statement  as read statement .how can i change help me.

         AND p_field3 IS INITIAL
         AND p_field4 IS INITIAL

        IF sy-subrc <> 0.
          MESSAGE s035.
        ENDIF.
      ENDIF.
    regards,
    Jay.

    hi
    The READ statement is as below:
    When u have a table already with values and to improve the performance u need to use this.
    Reading Lines of Tables
    To read a single line of any table, use the statement:
    READ TABLE <itab> <key> <result>.
    For the statement to be valid for any kind of table, you must specify the entry using the key and
    not the index. You specify the key in the <key> part of the statement. The <result> part can
    specify a further processing option for the line that is retrieved.
    If the system finds an entry, it sets SY-SUBRC to zero, if not, it takes the value 4, as long as it is
    not influenced by one of the possible additions. If the internal table is an index table, SY-TABIX
    is set to the index of the line retrieved. If the table has a non-unique key and there are duplicate
    entries, the first entry is read.
    Thanks

  • Regarding Messages to Job Log

    Hi,

    how to do this.
    how can i see that messages whether it is written or not.
    how it can be seen to the client/user.
    regards,

    Hi Kiran
    Use 'write' to display the message in the job log.
    write : / log_message.
    Place this statement after the block of statements in your program where you want the message to be displayed in the log.
    You can see the job log in SM37 transaction.
    hope this helps you.

    There is no version of iTunes that truly supports the 64-bit version of Windows XP and never will be. If you search this forum for "XP 64" or do a web search for something like "iTunes Windows XP 64",  you'll find threads describing the process some people have used to "crowbar" iTunes onto XP 64, with varying levels of success, none of them complete.

  • Doubt regarding  ALE SETTINGS in IDOC scenario.

    Hi Friends,
            I have some doubts regarding ALE settings for IDOC scenarios,  can anyone  please clarify my doubts.
    For exmaple take IDOC to FILE scenario
    The knowledge i got from SDN is --
    One need to do at the  R3 side is  --- RFC DESTINATION (SM59)  for the XI system.
                                                       --- TRFC PORT  for sending IDOC  to the  XI system
                                                       --- CREATING LOGICAL SYSTEM
                                                       --- CREATING PARTNER PROFILE
                   at the XI side is  --- RFC  Destination ( For SAP sender system)
                                           --- CREATING  PORT  for receiving IDOC from the SAP sending system(IDX1).
    1. Do we create two logical systems for both Sender ( R3 system ) and Receiver( XI system ) in R3 system itself or in XI system or in both systems we create these logical systems? Is this a mandatory step in doing ALE configurations?
    In IDOC to IDOC scenario-------
      2.  Do we craete two RFC destinations in XI system? One RFC DESTINATION for the Sender R3 system and another RFC DESTINATION for the Receiver R3 System? and do we create RFC DESTINATION for the XI system in receiver R3 system? If not.....y we don't create like this........Please give me some clarity on this.............
      3.  If we use IDOC adapter ,since IDOC adapter resides on the ABAP STACK ,we don't need sender communication channel ,for the similar reason----
    y we r creating receiver communication channel in the case of FILE to IDOC scenario?
      4. Can any one please provide me the ALE settings for IDOC to FILE scenario,
                                                                                    FILE to IDOC scenario,
    IDOC to IDOC scenario individually.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Ramana.

    hi,
    1. Yes, we create two logical systems for both Sender ( R3 system ) and Receiver( XI system ) in R3 system itself and
    it is a mandatory step in doing ALE configurations
    2. We create 1 RFC destination each in R3 and XI.
        R3 RFC destination points to Xi and
        XI RFC destination  points to R3
    3 We need to create Communication Channel for Idoc receiver as the receiver channel is always required but sender may not be necessary
    4. ALE settings for all IDOC scenarios are same  as follows....
    Steps for ALE settings:-
    Steps for XI
    Step 1)
         Goto SM59.
         Create new RFC destination of type 3(Abap connection).
         Give a suitable name and description.
         Give the Ip address of the R3 system.
         Give the system number.
         Give the gateway host name and gateway service (3300 + system number).
         Go to the logon security tab.
         Give the lang, client, username and password.
         Test connection and remote logon.
    Step 2)
         Goto IDX1.
         Create a new port.
         Give the port name.
         Give the client number for the R3 system.
         Select the created Rfc Destination.
    Step 3)
         Goto IDX2
         Create a new Meta data.
         Give the Idoc type.
         Select the created port.
    Steps for R3.
    Step 1)
         Goto SM59.
         Create new RFC destination of type 3(Abap connection).
         Give a suitable name and description.
         Give the Ip address of the XI system.

         Go to the logon security tab.
         Give the lang, client, username and password.
         Test connection and remote logon.
    Step 2)
         Goto WE21.
         Create a port under transactional RFC.(R3->XI)
         Designate the RFC destination created in prev step.
    Step 3)
         Goto SALE.
         Basic settings->Logical Systems->Define logical system.
         Create two logical systems(one for XI and the other for R3)

         Give the outbound or inbound message type based on the direction.
    Step 5)
         Goto WE19
         Give the basic type and execute.
         fill in the required fields.
         Goto IDOC->edit control records.
         Give the following values.(Receiver port,partner no.,part type and sender Partner no. and type)
         Click outbound processing.
    Step 6)
         Go to SM58
         if there are any messages then there is some error in execution.
         Goto WE02.

  • Have some doubt regarding the  weblog (Lookup's in XI made simpler)

    Hi All,
    I have created the same scenario as mentioned in Siva's weblog (Lookup's in XI made simpler).
    I having some doubts regarding the scenario, it will be great if you help me to resolve the same.
    I am having a file-file scenario where I need to do lookup in database(MS-Access)  through mapping.
    The standard file-file scenario is in place and in addition I have created a receiver jdbc channel . I  have also created the receiver agreement for the same in the cofiguration.
    While creating the receiver agreement you have to specify the interface name which includes the message type…I have specified the normal format which we specify while configuring the jdbc receiver adapter.
    In the message mapping I have created a advance user defined function as mentioned in your weblog which calls my receiver jdbc channel.
    I have also specified the select query to be executed in the mapping program.
    While testing I am getting the following error
    Cannot produce target element /ns0:Role_MT/URole. Check xml instance is valid for source xsd and target-field mapping fulfills requirements of target xsd
    <b>Can you please suggest me what all I need to do in addition to the file-file scenario for this lookup scenario to work.</b>
    Thanks and Regards
    Rahul

    Hi,
    Following is my user defined function
    //write your code here
    String Query = "";

    Query = "Select URole from  Lookup where UName = '  " + UName[0] + "  ' and UPassword = '  " + Pwd[0] +" '  ";

    channel = LookupService.getChannel("DB_service","JDBC_channel_receiver");
    accessor = LookupService.getDataBaseAccessor(channel);
    resultSet  = accessor.execute(Query);
    for(Iterator rows = resultSet.getRows();rows.hasNext();){
    Map rowMap = (Map)rows.next();
    result.addValue((String)rowMap.get("URole"));
    catch(Exception ex){
    result.addValue(ex.getMessage());
    finally{

  • Doubt Regarding Statistics Collection in 10g

    Hello,
    Me Jr Dba i have a doubt regarding statistics calculation in 10g.As we know that if we set
    the initilization parameter STATISTICS_LEVEL=Typical then AOS(Automatic Optimizer staistics) calculate the statistics for the tables, whose blocks are greater then 10% changed from the last calculation.Here my doubt is since already statistics are gathered,
    is there any necessity for us to gather the statistics manually by using
    DBMS_STATS.GATHER to see the tables or system statistics.
    Can u plz assist me on the above
    Regards,
    Vamsi

    Hi,
    Please see here,
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14211/stats.htm#i41448
    If the table/s are changing very frequently than its better to gather the stats manually.This would lead teh volatile table coming up into the stats job again and again.
    For the system stats and data dictionary stats,they are not collected by default.So there is no choice but to gather them manually.

  • Doubt regarding SQL execution

    Hi Friends,
    Am using Oracle 10g DB - 10.2.0.3.0
    I have some basic doubts regarding sql query execution by Oracle.
    Say, Am executing a query from a toad/sqlplus session for the first time, it takes 10 secs then 1 sec and so on.
    Same thing happens for every 15 minutes.(Any specific reason for this ??).
    It takes more time when it executes first because of parsing and all those stuff but from then on it picks from the
    shared pool right??.. How long will it be there in Shared Pool does Oracle maintain any specific time period to clear that query from shared pool memory. How does Oracle handle this.
    Another thing is, say, I have a report query, I run this query monthly. What will be the execution time when I run this query each and every month. Will Oracle parse this query everytime I run. How do I improve the performance in this situation (May sound odd :)).
    Regards,
    Marlon

    Say, Am executing a query from a toad/sqlplus session for the first time, it takes 10 secs then 1 sec and so on.
    Same thing happens for every 15 minutes.(Any specific reason for this ??).
    It takes more time when it executes first because of parsing and all those stuff but from then on it picks from the
    shared pool right??.. How long will it be there in Shared Pool does Oracle maintain any specific time period to clear that query from shared pool memory. How does Oracle handle this. Share Pool caches the SQL statement. So when you execute the same SQL for the second time it goes for a soft parse. But this is not the only reason for the query to execute faster the second time. The time difference between a soft parse and hard parse is very minimal. So it really does not matter unless you are executing the same query several number of times.
    The thing that really matters is the Data Buffer Cache. That is the rows that are selected by your query are cached into the Data buffer that is available in the SGA. So for the next time when you run the same query the IO is reduced as the data is available in the memory and you don't have to go to your disk to get the data.
    But the data in Data Buffer is not persistent, meaning it follows the FIFO rule. That is first in first out. When the Data Buffer is full the content of the buffer is removed in the FIFO order.
    Another thing is, say, I have a report query, I run this query monthly. What will be the execution time when I run this query each and every month. Will Oracle parse this query every time I run. How do I improve the performance in this situation (May sound odd :)). Like the Data Buffer the Shared Pool is also maintained in the FIFO order. So if the query is still in the Shared Pool the query will be soft parsed else it will be hard parsed. But its very rare that you will have a query in your Shared Pool for a month.

    Actually i have one doubt in message class. I want create message for following logic.
    If the records already exits in database table ,
    whatever  input i will given in input fields like  entry type and material no ,it will need in message.
    i want rise the error message in my code like "Record entry type B Material no 029585888 already exits in database table".
    I done the coding like.........
    in SE80.
        IF sy-subrc = 0.
          MESSAGE e039 with zdbt-enttyp

    in SE91.
    Record  entry type &1 Location &2 already exits in database table.
    is it correct? it s not working properly..
    could you advice me.......

    Hello Raju
    The only possible problem I see is that in your report you send a message of the wrong message class. Assuming that your message class is ZMSG then assure that your report begins with:
    REPORT zreport MESSAGE-ID zmsg.
    IF sy-subrc = 0.
    MESSAGE e039 with zdbt-enttyp
    zdbt-matnr.
    ENDIF.

    Do I need to have an Exception block inside? I dont have any user defined execptions at all. So will there be any exceptions that gets generated in a select query?

    Hi,
    Oracle will raise an error NO_DATA_FOUND , if any of your SELECT statement returns zero records, If you want your process to fail then you can have one common handler (either write to a error_log_table) do all the error_handling.
    If you want to continue for some SQL's to move to the next statement then you can do some thing like this.
    begin
    select statement
    when no_data_found then --not an issue, if no data is returned.
    NULL;
