Doubts in the rollback tablespace

Dear Gurus,
I created a database using dbca to do it...
The creation was fine, but when I looked at the rollback segments at OEM I saw that the tablespace of the rollback is the system tablespace....
Now I have a doubt, the tablespace of the rollback segment wasn´t to be the UNDOTBS1?
Thnks...

rollback segments show the active undo segments used in ur database (database vide), as system segment is created as the database created for system table space undo activities, further the oracle by default create and drop undo segments automatically and will not show in rollback segments , u can view the active created segments in v$rollstat view which are system generated. you can create your custom undo segments but for that u have to set parameters in initial parameter file and have to tell oracle to manage undo segments manually.

  • Drop rollback tablespace after using UNDO

    I have switched to using UNDO instead of using rollback segments. The UNDO works fine, and I have sucessfully dropped all rollback segments. Now I try to drop rollback tablespace. Can I simplely issue drop tablespace command to drop it? the reason I hesitate to simply drop it is that before I do drop, I placed the rollback tablespace offline. And there are errors during transaction since some tables somehow still checking on this tablespace. Can I simplely drop rollback tablespace, and Oracle would clean this internally, and everything would be finr?
    thanks for your input.

    Hi,
    This is the steps to migration from rollback tablespace to undo tablespace (from 8i to 9i migration by manual upgrade) :
    SQL>alter system set undo_management=auto scope=spfile;
    SQL>create UNDO tablespace UNDOTBS  datafile ‘d:\database\mydb\system\undotbs01.dbf’ size 500M;
    SQL>alter system set undo_tablespace= UNDOTBS  scope=spfile;
    SQL>shutdown immediate
    SQL>startup
    SQL>select SEGMENT_NAME,TABLESPACE_NAME,STATUS from dba_rollback_segs; --Verirify creation and usage UNDO tablespace
    SQL>drop tablespace rbs including contents and datafiles;
    SQL>create pfile=’d:\database\mydb\system\pfile\init.ora’ from spfile;No need to drop old rollback segment.

  • When to backup the rollback segments?

    Does anyone know when do I need to backup the rollback segments and what for? How are they used during restore/recovery?
    I'm using RMAN in Oracle 9.2. We have databases with both manual and automatic undo management. Does the undo management type make any difference?
    Thanks,
    Niki

    Does anyone know when do I need to backup the rollback segments and what for? How are they used during restore/recovery?
    Your question is a little large to answer but I am going to summary the most important.
    The database works with transactions in commit and in not commit mode. While a transaction has not commit , this transaction has not finished. While the transaction has not finished the rollback segments or undo segments are used to store the image of blocks with changes and without changes. That is the method that Oracle uses to ensure that a block is not going to be modified definitevely until the transaction gets commit.
    When you have a point of failure you are going to have transactions with commit and transactions with no commit and that tablespace ( RBS or UNDO ) is needed to carry to the database to a consistent point carrying to disk all transactions with commit and the rest have to suffer a rollback operation. That means that those operations without commit are not going to be complete transactions for the database.
    When you want to recover a database all tablespaces are need excepting the temp tablespace because that tablespace is only needed to carry out sorts and operation likeness.
    Does the undo management type make any difference?
    if you use rollback segments you have to administer them and the management instead if you work with undo tablespace. If you work with undo tablespace it by itself manage its segments you do not have to worry about.
    I think that I have answered your questions if you have any doubt or something like that feel free to follow asking.

  • Increase the RollBack Segment

    Guys,
    Hope you all doing well.
    My question is about the undotable space.
    I am using oralce 9ir2 on Windows Plateform. The tablespace was auto created at database creation. The tablespace is in Auto undo Management mode. The Undotablespace has 10 Rollback segments. I want to increase the Rollback segments in the tablespace. How could i increase the rollback segments??
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Y.Vo.

    when I asked how to get the rollback segment count, I actually asked how would you get the rollback segments in undo tablespace. Because you dont have rollback segments in undo tablespace. You can either have rollback segments or undo tablespace. If you start your database in UNDO mode then you will have undo tablespace or in ROLLBACK mode you will have roll back segments. Both cannot be in the same place.
    what version u are using? . In 10g you dont have rollback segment if you set UNDO_MANAGEMENT to auto. You will have only undotablespace.
    1) In undotablespace the extents will automatically grow according to the sum of the data files for that tablespace.
    2) If it reaches a maximum and if you have auto_extent in any one of the file then you dont have to manually increase the size i.e you dont have to manually increase the segments.
    3) Also if you dont have the auto_extent in any file then the space will be reused. i.e you start to loose the old undo data.
    4) The maximum data it can hold depends on UNDO_RETENTION period and the space available in the undo tablespace.
    Hope this helps.

  • Doubt in considering temp tablespace's free space

    Hi All,
    Database: oracle 11.2
    Operating System: AIX
    I want to know how much free space available in my temp tablespace
    I ran below scripts
    select sum((bytes_free)/1024/1024/1024) GB from v$temp_space_header
    +52.904296875+
    select (tablespace_size)/1024/1024/1024 tablespace_size_in_gb,
    +(allocated_space)/1024/1024/1024 allocated_space_in_gb,+
    +(free_space)/1024/1024/1024 free_space_in_gb+
    from dba_temp_free_space
    tablespace_size_in_gb: 98.9990234375
    allocated_space_in_gb: 46.0947265625
    free_space_in_gb:151.81640625
    So my doubt is which one from above two script gives actual free space information ?
    Also in dba_temp_free_space view why free space size > tablespace size ?

    v$temp_space_header shows you how big the temp tablespace has got since the database was restarted. It doesn't give you the current free/used space.
    See the link for dba_temp_free_space, but I think it may be the way it reports free space which is why you're seeing it as more than the actual tablespace. As you can see form the description "space that is currently allocated and available for resuse" is calculated for both allocated space and free space.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28320/statviews_5056.htm
    >
    ALLOCATED_SPACE = space that is currently allocated and used + space that is currently allocated and available for reuse
    FREE_SPACE = space that is currently allocated and available for reuse + space that is currently unallocated>
    I use the below script which I've plagiarised from somewhere ages ago to get the used/free temp space.
    SELECT   A.tablespace_name tablespace, D.mb_total,
             SUM (A.used_blocks * D.block_size) / 1024 / 1024 mb_used,
             D.mb_total - SUM (A.used_blocks * D.block_size) / 1024 / 1024 mb_free
    FROM     v$sort_segment A,
             SELECT   B.name, C.block_size, SUM (C.bytes) / 1024 / 1024 mb_total
             FROM     v$tablespace B, v$tempfile C
             WHERE    B.ts#= C.ts#
             GROUP BY B.name, C.block_size
             ) D
    WHERE    A.tablespace_name = D.name
    GROUP by A.tablespace_name, D.mb_total;

  • Can i change the temporary tablespace for schemas during the transactions??

    In My Prod database some of the tablespaces assigned system as Temporary tablespace. I want to change the temporary tablespace for these schemas and the default temporary tablespace of the database.
    Can I make this change while the users are accessing the database. Is there any impact If i make this change while the transactions are running.
    Below is the change i want to do........
    1. Change the users for SYSTEM to TEMP in the temporary tablespace by executing the following SQL
    statements:
    alter user SYSTEM temporary tablespace TEMP;
    alter user SYS temporary tablespace TEMP;
    alter user AD_MONITOR temporary tablespace TEMP;
    alter use SI_INFORMTN_SCHEMA temporary tablespace TEMP;

    alter user ANONYMOUS temporary tablespace TEMP;
    alter user ORDSYS temporary tablespace TEMP;

    2. Set the default temporary tablespace to TEMP by executing the following SQL statement:
    alter DATABASE default temporary tablespace TEMP;

  • Resize rollback tablespace

    I have a rollback tablespace contain 7 rollback segments, I want to resize(decrease) the tablespace without reduce the datafile size, any suggest method? Its it possible cretae another rollback tablespace then take origin rollback tablespace offline?

    Hi,
    Sum of datafile sizes defines the tablespace size. So to reduce tablespace size datafile size have to be reduced.

  • Rollback tablespace to UNDO tablespace

    Hi
    I have an Oracle Database on 9.2.0.7 which has got a rollback tablespace, I want to start using undo tablespace. Whats the procedure I should follow to enable undo tablespace.
    Thank you

    Hi,
    If you are using rollback segment and want to switch to automatic undo. following are the steps.
    1. Create UNDO tablespace. (if does not exists)
    2. ALTER SYSTEM SET UNDO_MANAGEMENT=AUTO SCOPE=SPFILE;
    3. ALTER SYSTEM SET UNDO_TABLESPACE=UNDO SCOPE=SPFILE;
    4. Shutdown and start the database.
    Cheers, you are now using automatic undo management.

  • There is no data in the partitioned  tablespace?

    I am creating a new partition table like this:
    create table PART_TABLE
    eid number(10),
    ename varchar2(30),
    hiredate date,
    jdate date,
    pdate date
    nologging
    parallel
    partition by range(hiredate)
    partition par_new1 values less than
    (to_date('01-JAN-2009','DD-MON-YYYY'))
    tablespace PART_MOHAN,
    partition par_new2 values less than
    (to_date('01-JAN-2010','DD-MON-YYYY'))
    tablespace PART_MOHAN2
    Now,there is no data in the Partitioned table.
    Now, i am inserting rows into the table.
    But, rows are inserting into the table not in the partition tablespaces.
    I checked the used space and free space of tablespaces, there is no change in size after inserting the row also.
    But, when i check the table, rows have inserted into the table.
    But, i dont know , in which tablespace these data are stored. How to find out that?
    SQL> INSERT INTO part_table values(1,'MohanaKr','01-JAN-2008','01-JAN-2009','01-JAN-2009');
    1 row created.
    SQL> /
    1 row created.
    SQL> /
    1 row created.
    SQL> /
    1 row created.
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> select count(*) from part_mohan;
    COUNT(*)
    4
    SQL> select * from part_table;
    EID ENAME HIREDATE JDATE PDATE
    1 MohanaKr 01-JAN-08 01-JAN-09 01-JAN-09
    1 MohanaKr 01-JAN-08 01-JAN-09 01-JAN-09
    1 MohanaKr 01-JAN-08 01-JAN-09 01-JAN-09
    1 MohanaKr 01-JAN-08 01-JAN-09 01-JAN-09
    But,
    SQL> select PARTITION_NAME,TABLESPACE_NAME,num_rows from dba_tab_partitions where table_name='PART_MOHAN';
    PARTITION_NAME TABLESPACE_NAME NUM_ROWS
    PAR_NEW1 PART_MOHAN
    PAR_NEW2 PART_MOHAN2

    Firstly, the NUM_ROWS column is populated by statistics gathering. It is not a true realtime accurate of the number of rows in the table but at a point in time. Secondly, try something like the following if you want to see the row count per partition:
    1* select partition_name from dba_tab_partitions where table_name = 'SALES' an
    d table_owner = 'SH'
    PARTITION_NAME
    SALES_1995
    SALES_1996
    SALES_H1_1997
    SALES_H2_1997
    SALES_Q1_1998
    SALES_Q1_1999
    SALES_Q1_2000
    SALES_Q2_1998
    SALES_Q2_1999
    SALES_Q2_2000
    SALES_Q3_1998
    SALES_Q3_1999
    SALES_Q3_2000
    SALES_Q4_1998
    SALES_Q4_1999
    SALES_Q4_2000
    16 rows selected.
    SQL> select count(*) from sh.sales;
    COUNT(*)
    1016271
    SQL> select count(*) from sh.sales partition(sales_q4_2000);

  • Logical corruption found in the sysaux tablespace

    Dear All:
    We lately see the logical corruption error when running dbverify command which shows the block corruption. It is always on the the sysaux tablespace. The database is 11g and platform is Linux.
    we get the error like:error backing up file 2 block xxxx: logical corruption and this comes to alert.log out of the automated maintenance job like sqltunning advisor running during maintenance window.
    Now As far as I know,we can't drop or rename the sysaux tablespace. there is a startup migrate option to drop the SYSAUX but it does not work due to the presence of domain indexes. you may run the rman block media recovery but it ends with not fixing since rman backups are more of physical than maintain the logical integrity.
    Any help, advise, suggestion will be highly appreciated.

    If you let this corruption there then you are likely to face a big issue that will compromise database availability sooner or later. The sysaux is a critical tablespace, so you must proceed with caution.
    Make sure you have a valid backup and don't do any thing unless you are sure about what you are doing and you have a fall back procedure.
    if you still have a valid backup then you can use rman to perform a db block level recovery, this will help you in fixing the block. Otherwise try to restore and recover the sysaux. In case you cannot fix the block by refreshing the sysaux tablespace then I suggest you to create a new database and use aTransportable Tablespace technique to migrate all tablespaces from your current database to the new one and get rid of this database.

    Short of trying to then reverse-engineer the objects that are in the dump file (I believe Data Pump export files contain some XML representations of DDL in addition to various binary bits, making it potentially possible to try to scan the dump file for the object definitions), I would tend to assume that the export didn't include those type definitions.
    Since it looks like you're trying to set up the sample schemas, is there a reason that you wouldn't just run the sample schema setup scripts on the destination database? Why are you using Data Pump in the first place?

  • About the Rollback..

    Hey guys,
    I did have a different understanding of the problem persisting with rollback yesterday..It's not actually used for deadlocking in this scenario..
    the code goes like this..
    procedure..
    begin
    call to Package.Insert procedure..
    if flag = 'Y'(output from insert procedure)
    then
    commit;
    else
    message('xyz');
    ROLLBACK;
    end if;
    end;
    If the o/p from flag is negative then it displays a msg telling duplicate records
    and should rollback the transaction in the database..
    But in 10G AS , there is rollback happening at the database end, but the forms screen is cleared as 'Rollback' is acting like a CLEAR_FORM..
    Any alternatives?!!
    Thanks in advance.

    The package should handle its own transactions rather than expect the calling program to roll back, so put the rollback in the procedure. Commits should almost always be done by calling programs though. If you want to roll back dml in a form then use a savepoint.
    I would use an exception rather than passing back a flag.

  • Have some doubt regarding the  weblog (Lookup's in XI made simpler)

    Hi All,
    I have created the same scenario as mentioned in Siva's weblog (Lookup's in XI made simpler).
    I having some doubts regarding the scenario, it will be great if you help me to resolve the same.
    I am having a file-file scenario where I need to do lookup in database(MS-Access)  through mapping.
    The standard file-file scenario is in place and in addition I have created a receiver jdbc channel . I  have also created the receiver agreement for the same in the cofiguration.
    While creating the receiver agreement you have to specify the interface name which includes the message type…I have specified the normal format which we specify while configuring the jdbc receiver adapter.
    In the message mapping I have created a advance user defined function as mentioned in your weblog which calls my receiver jdbc channel.
    I have also specified the select query to be executed in the mapping program.
    While testing I am getting the following error
    Cannot produce target element /ns0:Role_MT/URole. Check xml instance is valid for source xsd and target-field mapping fulfills requirements of target xsd
    <b>Can you please suggest me what all I need to do in addition to the file-file scenario for this lookup scenario to work.</b>
    Thanks and Regards
    Rahul

    Hi,
    Following is my user defined function
    //write your code here
    String Query = "";
    Channel channel = null;
    DataBaseAccessor accessor = null;
    DataBaseResult resultSet = null;
    Query = "Select URole from  Lookup where UName = '  " + UName[0] + "  ' and UPassword = '  " + Pwd[0] +" '  ";
    try{
    channel = LookupService.getChannel("DB_service","JDBC_channel_receiver");
    accessor = LookupService.getDataBaseAccessor(channel);
    resultSet  = accessor.execute(Query);
    for(Iterator rows = resultSet.getRows();rows.hasNext();){
    Map rowMap = (Map)rows.next();
    result.addValue((String)rowMap.get("URole"));
    catch(Exception ex){
    result.addValue(ex.getMessage());
    finally{
    try{
    if (accessor!= null) accessor.close();
    catch(Exception ex){
    result.addValue(ex.getMessage());
    Thanks and Regards

  • How best we can use the Rollback and RollbackAlways mechanism in Visual Studio Release Management Template

    Hello All,
    We need a clarification on Rollback and RollbackAlways in Release template.
    We checked a scenario for Rollback and RollbackAlways:
    In Release Template, we have the first activity as “Configure Application Pool” and then followed by a rollback action of “Create Application Pool”
    and “Create Web Site” then followed by "Code Deployment" via TFS build.
    We tested with 2 scenario’s:
    With App Pool and Web Site already existing: when triggered the build, configure
    app pool succeeded, then Rollback action was skipped (as previous action was successful), finally deploy the code executed (code deployed) and build got succeeded.
    Deleted App Pool and Web Site: when triggered the build, configure app pool failed (as no app pool existed), Rollback action executed (as previous action failed) – created app pool and web site then finally
    deploy the code executed (code deployed)
    But build failed (Error: Configure app pool action failed).
    Ideally the build should succeed as the roll back action got executed and code deployed successfully.
    Please correct us if our understanding is wrong.
    Also, Kindly let us know how best we can use the Rollback and RollbackAlways mechanism in Release Management
    Looking forward for your positive response.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,

    Hi Shashank,
    Rollback Always runs if any of the actions in the template failed. Rollback will run if action just above rollback fails or if any of the actions below the Rollback fails.
    Article here (http://www.incyclesoftware.com/2014/03/understanding-rollbacks-release-management/) clearly explains how Rollback and Rollback
    Always work.
    I think you come across this issue since you are using build to do the "code deployment" action. You should use the release template to do that.
    As far as I know you cannot use Rollback to achieve condition check (App pool exist in your case) action.
    For this you can create your own Power Shell component (which checks if the app pool exist and is not create it) and add it as a tool in RM server (RM Server Inventory).
    Another option is you can follow the workaround in below thread "Answer" quoted below. That is execute Remove app pool regardless if it exist or not (which does not fail) and then create app pool.
    I was able to get it working by removing the app pool which does not fail if it doesn't exist. Removing then creating seems the long way around but it works.
    Flow:
    Remove Application Pool
    Create Application Pool
