Download a MP3 file

How do I put a link on a page the will allow my viewers to download an mp3 audio file that I have on my website? I inserted a text box saying click here to download - and linked it to the mp3 file. When sent to my browser and I clicked on the link it start playing and did not allow me to download the file to my computer.

Whether an mp3 downloads or plays is a setting in the viewer's browser, the easiest way to "force" a download is to zip the file.

I uninstalled and reinstalled but the program still won't open. I was trying to download an mp3 file last evening. Instead the site tried to install a new audio player. I did not want it so uninstalled it immediately. I think in that process something was deleted that I need for iTunes but I do not know what. How do i figure out what is gone and recover it?
I did try a system restore - but that was not a fix either.

Ackk ... that behavior is consistent with the play_mp3.exe trojan:

• How to make automatic download for mp3 files [80 gb of mp3 files stored in GoDaddy]

I'm building this site --> Matthew
I want my visitors to download the mp3 simply by clicking the "down" blue icon. But here's the challenge, I can't do "Link to File" cause I have a lot mp3 files [80 gb total]. I believe Muse can't carry those in one file. I already stored those in my GoDaddy account.
Right click "Save Links as.." is not an option.
Hopefully there's another way to do it.

When I visit most websites (with IE on my Galaxy IIIS), I can download mp3 files by selecting the word "download" or an icon. With Firefox, sometimes it downloads and sometimes it plays. How do I guarantee-download.

This will be in the long tap menu in Firefox 21. This will be released in about 10 weeks. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=791654

• HT2729 How do i covert my mp4 download to mp3 files

I have just downloaded severaal tracks from iTunes, but not sure if you can select different formats? Anyway I downloaded mp4 tracks but wwant to burn a CD for my car so need to convert to mp3. Anyway to do this without purchasing software??
Thanks

Clare,
You can use iTunes to convert the file to MP3:
iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format
For future reference, rather than buying songs in the wrong format and converting them, you will find it easier to buy songs in MP3 in the first place, at an online retailer such as Amazon MP3.

• Downloading an mp3 file onto an iPad Air

Hi!
I have some songs on my MacBook. My MacBook has a version of iTunes that is too old to be compatible with my iPad Air. So, in my iPad iTunes, I currently only have tracks from the iTunes Cloud.
In order to move other tracks across (that I put on my MacBook from cds, etc), I created a file using Hightail (YouSendIt, as was), sent it to my email addy, opened my email whilst on my iPad, and clicked the "download" button. The track started playing immediately. So far, so good. But ... where is it on my iPad? It is not in my iTunes and I can't see where else it might be. The email link will expire in 7 days, so I can't keep playing it from that.
Can I download things to my iPad iTunes? Lots of the tracks I have are not available to buy, having come from live concerts, etc.

It will only be in the Mail app linked to that email's attachment. You won't be able to get it into the Music app (iTunes on an iPad is just the iTunes store) on your iPad, you can only get music into that by downloading it from the iTunes store directly on your iPad or by syncing from a computer's iTunes. You may find third-party music apps in your country's app store that allow you to download music into them from websites and/or copy from email attachments.

• I can't get download to work - it will not copy the mp3 file to my chosen location (as set in tools/options) - it gives me a new window with a player - no dwnlo

I am running windows xp sp2 and I have set my dowload location under (tools/options), but when I select an MP3 file to download, firefox does NOT copy the file to my chosen location on my HD - instead, it opens up a new window with a makeshift "player" and begins loading the player with the MP3 file. The problem is that I have no idea where on my system firefox has copied this file to, so, I cannot leave and come back later and play this MP3 file using winamp. I have to listen to it right then or lose it - if I close that new window (with that puny little "player"), then I lose the download, wherever firefox put it on my PC (I got no idea where it is). This is all under firefox 25.0
I am also running FIrefox 12.0 on an older windows 2000 machine and that works perfectly - I can download any MP3 file I want, and firefox 12.0 (on win2k, sp4) downloads it to my chosen location (on my HD), and it gives me the download window so I can watch its progress and have some control over pause, and resume, and, when it is done, the download window offers me the option to "open containing folder" so I can make sure it got to where I wanted it. In other words, Firefox 12.0 on WIn2k, sp4 works better than firefox 25.0 on winxp sp2!!!!! What gives? I went through and set up my options for XP just like I did with Win2k and it all looks good, but firefox 25.0 just ignores my chosen location and always defaults to give me that makeshift player and I am not able to actually copy the mp3 file to my harddrive - it makes firerox 25.0 almost unusable since downloading mp3 files is a big part of my firexfox use - please help - I am not able to upgrade windows at this time, and, since firefox 12.0 still works fine on win2k, I can't understand what happened at firefox?

Phillipp,
I tried it again using "save link as", and this time it actually worked! I just now downloaded several more using the "save link as" option, and it works perfectly. Thanks. Problem solved.

How are you downloading the MP3 files?
Via a direct link or by using an extension?
Did you try to boot the computer in Safe Mode?
Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

• How to download mp3 files into iTunes

This question differs from, but is related to subscribing to podcasts (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2124335&tstart).
Rather than subscribing to a podcast, I just want to download a story http://transmissionsfrombeyond.com/podpresstrac/web/121/0/TFB_020TheWatersOfMeribah.mp3, hosted at http://transmissionsfrombeyond.com/2009/08/transmission20. I did File->AddFileToLibrary. The dialogue box that came up was pointing at a temporary internet file folder. For the file name, I provided the URL above, but all that happened was that it downloaded 2 files into the temporary internet file folder:
TFB020TheWatersOfMeribah[1].mp3
TFB020TheWatersOfMeribah[2].mp3
Why are there 2 parts?
I tried to drag them to the iTunes Podcasts area, then try to drag it to the Podcast entry in the navigation panel along the left. Neither action resulted in the appearance of the files in iTunes.
I tried to find where iTunes stores its files. It seems to be at "My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music", though the folder structure in no way mirrors the 6 iTunes libraries (Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, Applications, Radio). Previously suscribed podcasts had corresponding folders in the Podcasts subfolder, but there were no subfolders for the other five libraries.
I dragged the two mp3's into the Podcasts subfolder, but it didn't show up in iTunes. I then emulated the previously subscribed podcasts by creating a TheWatersOfMeribah folder within the Podcasts subfolder, then dragged the mp3's into that folder. Again, no joy.
Surely, I doing something very wrong. What is the way to download mp3's into one's iPod Touch?

Apple rejects my alias wrote:
That's the thing, it's not a subscription podcast. It's just an mp3 file. Entering a URL as worked for subscription podcasts, but hasn't worked for the URL of the mp3 file.
No, it won't!
I've checked the links you provided and the problem is - they are not Podcasts (as you noted), despite what the text on the page says. In order to get these programmes into the Podcast section of iTunes, they must be downloaded _as Podcasts._ So why not get the Podcast?
First, let's get the Podcast, then I'll explain what the problem has been.
To actually get the Podcast; on the pages you linked, look for and click on the *iTunes/1 click* button, just above the donate button. You may get a dialogue box appear that says "This link needs to open an application. Send to:" and one of the choices should be iTunes - choose it. That step may be skipped and you may go straight to iTunes.
When iTunes does open, it should go to the *iTunes Store/Podcasts/.../Transmissions From Beyond* page, where you can select individual episodes or subscribe to the complete series. Make your choice. The advantage of subscribing is that iTunes will then do all the work of finding new episodes, downloading them and syncing them to your iPod.
An alternative is to search in the iTunes Store for "Transmissions From Beyond" which will find the Podcast. I've just done this, so I know it works!
Now, what was the problem?
On the pages you linked to, the authors keep referring to everything as a Podcast, but an mp3 file _is only a Podcast_ if it's downloaded through a "Podcast catcher", such as iTunes. This whole process then keeps track of new episodes and can also automate the removal of an episode that you have listened to if you wish. (See the options in the Podcast tab of your iPod when you connect it to iTunes.)
If you download the mp3 files as you did, they are simply mp3 files, which will end up in the music section of your library, perhaps with a genre of Podcast. (To be a Podcast, the file needs to have a *Media Kind* of Podcast, not the genre. A Podcast can have any genre, speech, music, drama etc.)
As you have seen, even the content providers are mis-informed about what a Podcast is.
By the way, when you tried "entering the URL" - iTunes will only recognise valid *Podcast Feed URLs,* but not the location of an mp3 file. The enter URL option is useful if you have the *Podcast Feed* of a Podcast that is not listed in the iTunes Store.
Finally, in fact you have downloaded the mp3 file _three times._
The first time as TFB020TheWatersOfMeribah.mp3,
the second time as TFB020TheWatersOfMeribah[1].mp3,
and a third time as TFB020TheWatersOfMeribah[2].mp3

• Why can't I transfer mp3 files downloaded on mac to iphone?

I downloaded some MP3 files from a program online. I can play the files on my computer (dragged & dropped), but I really want to listen to them on my iPhone. I've tried to upload them to iTunes on my iPhone from iTunes on my Mac. They are on my phone, but they are grayed out. There is no content behind them. Did I miss a step? Thanks!

Sounds like you downloaded the TV Shows in HD. High Definition (HD) content is not compatible with your older iPod Classic as HD video resolution exceeds that of what is capable by this particular model. You'll need to redownload the standard version.
To prevent HD versions from being downloaded in the future head to the iTunes Store, click the Purchased link, and then select TV Shows and remove the tick mark next to Download HD when available. You should be able to download the SD version now from under this same page.

• Download mp3 file

Hi,
We want to create an application that downloads a mp3 file and then starts to play it.
Has anyone an idea of how to download the mp3 file from an url and then store it, either on the iphone or in the application (depending on what is possible).

Downloading MP3' would almost certainly involve a breach of copyright so it'll never happen.
Not if the OP owns the copyright to these MP3s that he wants to make an App to download.
I can make an MP3 of my own created music, sounds, voice etc. and release it for free, and there is no copyright breach if I want people to download it.
Don't assume everyone wants to break the law!

• ITunes no longer plays automatically when you add mp3 files to the library

Since the latest version of iTunes (8) it no longer automatically plays a song when you double-click the mp3 icon outside of iTunes. Let's say I've just downloaded a mp3 file to my desktop. When I double-click the file icon to get it to play in iTunes the mp3 file copies into iTunes but then sits there waiting for me to click Play. This never used to do this - I keep looking through the settings but I know I've not changed any of them, and I can't find anything to fix it either! please help!

There are a number of options that were in iTunes 7 that have been removed in version 8. Some of them can be set by using Terminal commands on a Mac (the play on import is one of them.). See this post for details: iTunes 8 for Mac - Preferences
TinkerTool also has a tab for setting iTunes 8 options in Leopard: TinkerTool
