Hello,
Here you can find a tutorial about blob:
http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/db/apex/r31/apex31nf/apex31blob.htm
I have a demo here - it shows how to display an image in case the file is image. Otherwise, it displays download link:
http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=63066:1
workspace: somefeto
user: test
pwd: test
Application 63066
Also, there is a packaged application : Sample File Upload and Download that shows you, how to do it.....
you can find it on your workspace.. or here if you wish:
http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=10540:3:15582111009947::NO
workspace: somefeto

  • Cannot find BLOB Download Format Mask link.

    Hello,
I cannot find the "BLOB Download Format Mask" link and I am using a current version of APEX. can someone tell me where I might find it? I have followed the instructions and see no such link under Page Item, Source. Please help!
    Thanks

    Scott,
Yes, I have created a form on a table and that table contains a column of datatype BLOB. I followed the APEX advanced tutorial for uploading and downloading files. Now I want to be able to display the (Blob) images that I have uploaded.
As I research the topic, I get the feeling that displaying the BLOB image can only be done in APEX 3.1 and up. Is this true? I have that version of APEX installed on my laptop and have successfully completed the "Defining and Viewing BLOB Data in Oracle Application Express 3.1" tutorial found here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/apex/apex31nf/apex31blob.htm
But I could not do it on the company server that runs APEX 3.0
Even if I did get the approval to have the company APEX application upgraded to 3.1, there still is the issue of scaling the images so that they are not so large. I understand that there is a UTIL.APEX function "GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC" that would do this for me. I read the documentation at:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10513_01/doc/appdev.310/e10499/api.htm#CHDICGDA
After reading it, I was still not clear as to how to use it correctly. Is there any documentation on how to implement this function in APEX?
I did find something that I was hoping would help me. The article is entitled "Show Blob of other table in APEX Form" by Dimitri Gielis can be found here: http://dgielis.blogspot.com/2008/07/show-blob-of-other-table-in-apex-form.html
I tried to import the file "blob_support.sql" application (on both APEX 3.0 and APEX 3.1 systems) but got errors. I'm not having very much luck here and would appreciate the help in pointing me in the correct direction.
    Help!!
    Thanks

  • Can you specify format mask for date or timestamp columns

    Hi,
Recently when I'm developing a PL/SQL application, I find that any format mismatch between data in table and format mask specified in to_date/to_timestamp function will cause exceptions. However, I'd like to make my application more robust and immune to this kind of problems, and know exactly which format mask to use for exactly what columns in db table.
Is there a way in a table column to specify the format mask for date/timestamp columns such that I can know exactly what format mask to use when doing conversion? Also I don't want to depend on NLS_DATE_FORMAT specification, don't want to make a long case statement to check for every date format allowed by Oracle.
    Many thanks.

As per my knowledge it can't be possible
casuse if you entered '12/11/2007' date
how oracle know that in date 12'th is the month or 11'th.
The person who entered that date will also have confusions in future.
either you have to fix one date format for your whole application (application configuration).
or you have to store the date format in other column of the table.
In case you set the date column to varchar and store all the dates without format then
in future you may face problems in future while fetching the records, searching etc.
    Regards
    Singh

So, i have bad news for you : you'll have to rebuild again.
Meanwhile i have excellent news for you : there's an online tool made by Johannes Henseler called Sidecar xml which builds the necessary xml file for you, sort of what you find in the Digital Publishing Folio Editor website, but saves it in your Folio folder.
Next time you import all your folder (with that file), it will place all the necessary information, and even reorder the articles.
    Build once, play many times.

  • 4.2 blob download format mask not working

    I am using Apex 4.2
I have been working through the book Beginning Oracle Application Express 4. In chapter 6 the a blob is added to a report.
I have pasted the code example into the report definition (albeit with my own page numbers) :
    SELECT
       "TICKET_DETAILS"."TICKET_DETAILS_ID" "TICKET_DETAILS_ID",
       "TICKET_DETAILS"."TICKET_ID" "TICKET_ID",
       "TICKET_DETAILS"."DETAILS" "DETAILS",
       "TICKET_DETAILS"."CREATED_ON" "CREATED_ON",
       "TICKET_DETAILS"."CREATED_BY" "CREATED_BY",
       dbms_lob.getlength("ATTACHMENT") ATTACHMENT
    FROM
       "TICKET_DETAILS"
    WHERE (("TICKET_DETAILS"."TICKET_ID" = :P5_TICKET_ID))
I go to the report attributes and click on the attachment column.  I enter the suggested format mask
    DOWNLOAD:TICKET_DETAILS:ATTACHMENT:TICKET_DETAILS_ID::MIME_TYPE:FILE_NAME:::inline:Download.
When I press apply I keep getting :
    1 error has occurred
"" not found. (Go to error)
I have confirmed that the query runs and that P5_TICKET_ID does exist on page 5.
Not understanding what this meant I tracked down this page
17.10 About BLOB Support in Forms and Reports
and the section "Providing a Download Link" seems to confirm that the above format mask is correct.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I've also done the exercises in the book and it worked for me.
Your format mask is correct. But before pressing submit you also have to enter the blob column attributes:
    *Format Mask (Value Required):                   DOWNLOAD
    *Blob Table (Value Required):                       TICKET_DETAILS
    *Blob Column (Value Required):                   ATTACHMENT
*Primary Key Column 1 (Value Required):     TICKET_DETAILS_ID
    Primary Key Column 2:
    Mimetype Column:                                      MIME_TYPE
    Filename Column:                                       FILE_NAME
    Last Updated Column
    Character Set Column:
    Content Disposition:                                    ATTACHMENT
    Download Text:                                           Download
    Maybe you forgot that?

  • BLOB Download Format Mask

    Hi there
I've got this in my report:
    DOWNLOAD:MYTABLE:MT_FILE:MT_ID:::MT_FILENAME:::attachment:Download
I was wondering - is it possible to change 'Download' to the value of MT_FILENAME? I've tried #MT_FILENAME# and MT_FILENAME with no luck.
It would be nice not to "waste" an extra column for 'Download' if I could just make the filename listed as a download-link instead.. Any inputs?
    Cheers,
    Vidar

Why dont you just put the link on the blob column. Then when you click on the image it prompts the user to save the blob.

  • Link for BLOB column in report?

    Hi all,
I wonder if it is possible to declare a blob colum (displayed image) as a link.
What I try to do is to display images in a report and give the user the option to just click on the image an get a popup window where he/she can change or delete the image. As far as I have seen this is not possible with the standard link declaration. You can fill in the link parameters but this has no effect on the generated page.
    Thanks
    Andy

I eventually found another post: APEX_UTIL.GET_BLOB was not found on this server
In this post there is the suggestion of putting "dbms_lob.getlength("var")" after the date field in your select. So I changed my query to have it at the end, and now my format mask (DOWNLOAD:table_name:ATTACHED_FILE:FILE_ID::FILE_MIME_TYPE:FILE_NAME:::attachment:Download) works like a charm, in a classic report.

  • How to upload/download file into/from blob column in ADF/JDev 11g.

    Hello to all.
I found demo from Kuba user on that page: http://kuba.zilp.pl/?id=1
But that demo is for release 10g and too complicated for me for this time (I'm fish in Jdeveloper).
I can create some simple table view (of form view) with oracle connection with table with blob data.
Blob column will content doc/xls/pdf ...etc.
Now I can add two buttons for download and upload.
What I have to do in next time?
Is it possible to use some component or something?
    Thank you
    Ben

I was able to accomplish downloading from a blob, but I'm trying to dynamically set the ContentType.
As the table may contain different types of files, I'm setting the ContentType to #{row.Fileext}, where Fileext is set in SQL select as follows:
pseudocode: get file extension, and set the content type based on file extension.
    sql select :decode(substr(fdv.file_name,instr(fdv.file_name,'.',-1,1)+1),'log','text/plain; charset=utf-8','xml','text/xml','xls','application/vnd.ms-excel','tif','image/tiff','jpg','image/jpeg','unknown')
I rather use a fuction/method, and tried the following instead:
    ContentType = #{backingBeanScope.backing_processReqs.FileAttachContType}
    where FileAttachContType =
    public class ProcessReqs {
    public String FileAttachContType() {
// code to substring filename for extension and decode values
    return strContType
But I get the following error:
    Error 500--Internal Server Error
javax.el.PropertyNotFoundException: The class 'sunrider.reqpoportal.view.backing.ProcessReqs' does not have the property 'FileAttachContType'.
                   at javax.el.BeanELResolver.getBeanProperty(BeanELResolver.java:547)
                   at javax.el.BeanELResolver.getValue(BeanELResolver.java:249)
                   at javax.el.CompositeELResolver.getValue(CompositeELResolver.java:143)
    Ideas?
PS: Kuba, I've been trying to get to your blog all day, and it would just time out.
    Thanks everyone in advance!

  • Performance of LOB Segments for Blob Columns

    Hi,
I am migrating 11,000 rows of tiff images from Informix to Oracle. In Informix the datatype for the image storage is Byte and Oracle we chose it to Blob.
The Blob column is creating lob segment and lob index.
When I do the migration I observe that the size of the lob segment object is increasing rather than the table object.
So due to creation of this lob segment for the Blob column, will there be any performance issues while retrieval of images from the database and Inserting images into into the database.
Can I get all the issues that can be encountered by storing data in blob column in terms of lob segment.
This is very important information for us as the application has lot of SQL queries for retrieving and injecting images in the database.
It will be really apprecialbe if you can provide Information about this.
    Thanks & Regards
    Ramanathan KrishnaMurthy

I agree with D.Morgan that object type with 250 attributes is doubtful.
I don't like object tables (tables with "row objects") too.
But, your table is a relational table with object column ("column object").
C.J.Date in An introduction to Database Systems (2004, page 885) says:
"... object/relational systems ... are, or should be, basically just relational systems
that support the relational domain concept (i.e., types) properly - in other words, true relational systems,
meaning in particular systems that allow users to define their own types."
    1. How will Oracle store the data in the ADT column?...
    For some answers see:
“OR(DBMS) or R(DBMS), That is the Question”

  • Date format Mask for CHAR datatype

    hi
i want to assign a format mask like 'dd/mm/yyyy' to a field which has char datatype can i ?

The quickest answer to your question is to try it! :-) If you click on the Format Mask property of your Text Item and then press F1 Forms will display the Format Mask Help information for this property. All of the valid combinations for a Text Field Format Mask will be displayed.
To answer your question, you can put a format mask on a Text Item that can enforce the basic format of 'DD/MM/YYYY', but you could get data like: 99/99/9999. You would have to write code in a When-Validate-Item trigger that would ensure the user has entered a valid date.
    Hope this helps.
