Downloaded JDK 5.0 Update 1 but...

Hi everyone!
Im a total newbie to Java programming(or any programming for that matter).Im currently using' Sams teach yourself Java in 21 days'.It said I should download the latest version so JDK 5.0 would be it.As I dont have broadband yet got a friend to do it.The deal is it came with Netbeans which I dont have a clue about yet.
Uninstalled the netbeans version,downloaded the correct JDK 5.0.Its defnintely on my computer now but wheres the desktop icon(??) and why cant I access it(ther compiler)?I looked in 'Add and Remove Progams' section and the correct version is definitely on my pc.
Im itching to start and run my 1st program.Can someone please help me to fix this problem.

I'm new to Java too, but I just downloaded and installed the Java 5.0/Netbeans bundle yesterday. In what I say below, I'm assuming you are using a Windows
PC.
Netbeans is an IDE (integrated development envirnoment) tool. It will
help you to do Java application development. It appears to me that, to
be able to make full, efficient use of Netbeans, you'll need to know a fair amount about Java first. You should have a NetBeans icon on your desktop if it installed
successfully.
To use the Java compiler and interpreter:
1) Make sure your PATH environmental varialbe is set properly. E,g, if your
J2SE was installed in the Programs Files\Java folder, you'll have to
add C:\Program Files\ Java\jdk1.5.0_01\bin to your PATH variable.
2) You'll have to cxreate a CLASSPATH variable to tell the Java VM where
your compiled (class) files are located. You can also do this via the
"java -classpath X\Y\" statement. See Sun's on-line guidance for configuring
windows PCs for more on this.
3) To compiled Java application, you'll have to open a Command Prompt and
cd to the directory where the .java source file resides. (This is how it
works for me at least.) Details on the javac command can be found in
the JDK 1.5.0 documentation.
4) You'll also run your compiled apps from the Command Prompt using the
"java -options filename" command. Details on this command can be
found in the JDK 1.5.0 documentation.

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with installing the latest iTunes update. I recommend following the steps below:
Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
When you get to the step to uninstall iTunes, it is important to uninstall iTunes and the related components in the order listed in the link for that step.

You are not on Mountain Lion anymore, right? You are on Mavericks and have downloaded Pages 5 and then created docuemnts in it which can't be opened in Pages 09.
No, you don't have to buy a newer Pages but you have to be particular about which version you use.

Make sure you don't have another copy of Lightroom actively running on your computer. If not, find your catalog file in Finder/Explorer. Look for a file with the same name, but with a .lock extension. delete that file. Now Lightroom should open the catalog again.

Most Garageband Loops are missing, but I can find them in finder. Garageband keeps trying to download them from Software Update, but everything's up to date! HELP!

I open up Garageband
I look at the loops
Most are greyed out
I did a spotlight search, and found that they are, in fact, installed on my computer.
How can I get Garageband to see that they're installed?

I attempted to download the Lightroom 4.3 update but nothing happened

I just purchased Lightroom 4. After installing I was prompted to download the 4.3 update, but when I clicked on Download, nothing happened. I tried 4 times. I have a Mac Pro running 10.6.8

SOLVED THIS MYSELF (...sort of, anyway.) I had been using the Firefox browser, which is normally more compatible with downloads, but after reading an old reply to a similar question I tried the Safari browser and it worked first time.

I went to update my iTunes with the new update, but something went wrong..?

Alright, so... I opened iTunes and saw that I had an update available for iTunes. I think It was 7. something, but now I kind of forget. Anyway, I downloaded and installed the update, but in order to complete it I had to restart my computer.
So, I restarted the computer and when it loaded back up, I was surprised to see that it took me to the "Mac OS X Setup Assistant" window, where it said:
"In just a few steps, you can register your Apple product, set up your computer, and sign up for a .Mac membership, which includes a powerful collection of software services specifically designed for your Mac."
And then it asked me what country I lived in and yadda yadda yadda. So basically, it's asking me to re-setup my computer from the very beginning.
I tried filling in all the information to setup my mac again, but when I was done everything and all of the information was filled in and I pressed the "Ok/Done" or whatever you want to call it button, it took me back to the beginning to fill out all of the information again...
Can someone please tell me what is wrong with my Macbook?!

10.6.8 in software updates but not installing

I am having issues with installing software updates for my iMac. I had to manually download and install the 10.6.7 update (I chose the combo) from the apple site. It shows that the update is downloaded in my software updates but it will not install before or after restart. I was successul at installing the 10.6.7 combo, but now I am having the same issue with 10.6.8. I did download the update combo from the apple website, but when I try to install, I get an error stating "The installation failed. The installer could not install the software because there was no software found to install." I am a newer (1-2 years) mac user so I'm having issues finding solutions.

hello i upgraded to windows 10 tech preview build 10041. when i went to store beta it said it need update now i clicked in it started downloading 24.0 mb update but it stopped saying "Error, try again" i keep trying again but wont download update
so i can get into store =(
