my home computer's CD drive wont allow me to copy songs from CDs. Now i am at my brothers house and i cannot link to his without erasing all of my songs. is there any way to get this music onto my ipod?

Not really, the Shuffle works differently from other iPods and is designed to be linked to only one computer. What is wrong with your CD drive?

Select the store on the left side of iTunes.

You'll want to enable Manually Manage Music and Videos. Once you do that you'll be able to drag and drop the music from the computer to the iPod.

Yes. You can share items in your iTunes library with up to five other computers on your local network. While your computer is on and iTunes is open, others in your network can play your shared items, but shared items can’t be imported into others’ libraries.
If you want to import items from other iTunes libraries on other computers in your home, you can turn on Home Sharing. You can use Home Sharing with up to five computers. To use Home Sharing, you must have an iTunes Store account.

I can import some songs from another computer but not others. All the songs were purchased with the same apple id. Message says "...check connection to network..." Any ideas as to what could be causing this problem?

You do not have enouggh access privileges for this operation. Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again." The network appears to be fine . I can import other songs from his library. The same songs cause me a problem each time I try. My husband had no trouble importing the same songs I have trouble with. I get the same error message if I try to import the same songs from my husbands computer as well. "Command I" appears to show the same protections on both the songs I can import & the ones I cannot. My husband and son are both running OS 10.6, while I am running 10.7. I think I had this problem even before I upgraded, but I am not certain.

My first suggestion is to Repair Disk. Here's how:
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior

Is there an easy way to download playlist from a friends computer onto my ipod?

What you do is buy your own copy of the songs you like, put them on your computer, and then to your iPod from there.
Downloading them from your friend's computer is almost certainly a copyright infringement, not legal, and therefor it violates the terms of use for these boards to discuss how to do it.

I regularly sinc my phone at home, but just gots some MP3s on my work computer that I'd like to put on my iphone. Both are "authorized". But when I try to sinc at the office, it wants to erase my music on the phone and just put on it what's on my work computer. Anything that I'm totally missing here?

If you regularly have different songs on different computers in iTunes, you might consider to sign up for iTunes Match. This way you could keep a copy of all your songs in iCloud and download missing songs from iCloud, if need be.

I am hoping that someone can help with with these - I can generally work stuff out, but can't find this anywhere.
I have a friend who has bought an ipod for their daughter, but their computer is not connected to the internet. I have offered to set up on my home computer, but can the child access music from a friends computer without losing their original content? and Can she use itunes on her computer to upload CD's without being connected to the net?

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. In this mode you just drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:

Note: When changing from automatic to manual, check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. "Don't" uncheck Sync Music in the Music tab, it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting, if you uncheck it without setting the iPod to manual first you'll erase all the songs from your iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

hello, i have a ipod, i went to my cousins house to download more music that he has on his libary itunes. he downloaded it to my ipod. so i come home and connect the ipod to my computer and it shows the music he downloaded. now this is the question. how can i add the music he added from his computer to my ipod to my itunes libary on my computer??????

That is correct.
As for which external hard drive to go with, there are so many options is unbelievable. I personally like anything from Western Digital or Seagate. As for where to purchase from, I would definitely recommend NewEgg.
